    I got a raspberry pi 4 hooked up to a crt with forced 240p output on the screen. Ive messed around with shaders on some games on the crt and i like it with some games dude lmao. None of the overlays or stuff that replicates a crt for a flatscreen. Just regular shaders. I dont set it all the time but its fun. This was a cool video

    • @Scurge237
      @Scurge237 Год назад +2

      @@otggaming3180 its definitely a night and day difference playing the games on the crt. I will say this. It looks great sometimes a little flicker that doesnt happen often. Idk how to describe it beyond a little flicker. It does give it a more authentic feel. Since its a forced 240p mode. Its resolution might not be as easy on the eyes if one hypothetically were to emulate on a wii at 480i. Which would be its natural output to a crt but i feel it makes all the difference for snes, genesis nes etc it feels like the old console for sure. I do have a hacked wii and the pi still tops it out as a emulator box. Being i can switch and swap controllers easier.

    As a kid I would get so annoyed by the way CRT tvs would sometimes crop the corners of the game, making it hard to see UI information like health or energy. All I wanted was a screen that was perfectly angular with no large bezels obstructing the view.
    Now we have overlays to recreate the experience on modern displays. Honestly, I find that hilarious, crazy how nostalgia is.

    • @otggaming3180
      @otggaming3180  Год назад +3

      Nostalgia is a funny thing. Similar to you, my friend had a little portable TV that we would play Genesis on which I hated at the time because it would cut things off and the RF connection was so bad it created tons of static and visual noise. I recently found that CyberLab has a shader that creates the exact same effect and I can't help but play every Genesis game with it... go figure.

    Hello. I use RetroArch for Launchbox on many platforms. I want to put a smooth image with 2xbrz image filter and also the reflected frame and the platform bezel around that frame. When I load ready-made slang from HSM mega bezel, the reflected frame comes, but it distorts the game image. It's either cambered or crt, scanlines. How can I overlap the mirrored bezel and platform bezel in a retroarch with a clean image??

Another issue I'm having, is that the bezels are showing the incorrect game at times. So if I load up a game and quit, the next game I load up still shows the previous game bezels. Thanks if you can help! :)

    • @otggaming3180

      The overlapping bezels sounds very odd, I haven't run into that before. What version of RetroArch are you on? The latest is 1.15.0, so if you're on something older I would try updating.
      Regarding incorrect bezels... by default RetroArch will use the last bezel you loaded unless you're using configuration overrides. Configuration overrides are a great way to make sure that specific bezels only load with specific games or consoles. I made a video on understanding and using overrides that might help: ruclips.net/video/sZaE4yZe6AA/видео.html

    • @otggaming3180

      That's a good question. I'm thinking the best way to check is to look in the RetroArch shader config files. These are are located at RetroArch/config//
      There should be files in there that either end in .slangp or .glsl depending on the video driver you're using. If you open them up with a text editor it should give you the name and location of the shader that was saved for that core, content directory or game. There may be a better way to do it, but it's the only thing I can think of at the moment

      Here's a pretty good resource that shows a comparison of the various shaders: thingsiplay.game.blog/2022/03/08/crt-shader-showcase-for-retroarch/
      Some shaders have the ability to remove the black bars. For instance, the HSM Mega Bezel has a number of settings under "Crop Core Image" that allows you to adjust the image to get rid of the black bars. You can access these by going into "Shader Parameters" in the Quick Menu>Shaders section of RetroArch.

Weirdly, it only took effect after I tried a widescreen hack on Swanstation but wouldn't revert even though I reset all of the core settings. Figuring out it was that setting took a while to say the least.

    One thing I'd like to mention is that the Mega_Bezel_Community folder has long been replaced by the Mega_Bezel_Packs folder. If you're seeing the Mega_Bezel_Community or Mega_Bezel_Community_Collections folder in other graphics or shader preset packs they're probably there because the packs weren't updated (yet).
    From the HSM Mega Bezel Reflection Shader thread:
    INSTALLING ADDITIONAL PRESET/GRAPHIC COLLECTIONS
    Create a folder named Mega_Bezel_Packs in the root of the shaders folder, the final path of this should be `Retroarch/shaders/Mega_Bezel_Packs
    Place any of the additional collections inside this folder
    For example the final path to the examples pack should be Retroarch/shaders/Mega_Bezel_Packs/HSM_Mega_Bezel_Examples

      @@otggaming3180 Thanks, I'm glad you got the chance to experience and enjoy my shader presets.
      The original to that Old TV with RF interference shader preset was actually made in response to a user request yes.
      It's more than fine if you make future videos using my shader presets just be sure to add a link to my Libretro Forums thread and also acknowledge the developers who created the actual shaders which power my shader presets so that they too get the credit and recognition they deserve for all of their great and hard work and efforts.
      Another thing is to try to make sure that the videos match what you're seeing when you're playing before you go live please. If there's an issue or discrepancy that you'd like to address please drop a comment in my thread so that it can be rectified.
      I'm saying this because while there are many videos on RUclips that look true to the original intent, there are also some which don't look correct and it's a bit disheartening to see when people get a bad impression based on something like that.
      With these presets that rely on proper subpixel alignment and which use full strength masks if anything is off in terms of video capture and encoding settings or if the video is rescaled or resampled it's very likely going to not look right.
      You can take a look at @worldofgameplays ' and @RetroGames4K 's videos to get an idea of how they're supposed to look when done right. Even though RetroGames4K doesn't use my presets they use a similar style and the same shader so the example would apply as well.
      Also, some of my shader presets are intended to be used with Blargg NTSC Video filters and won't look as intended without them. I made some custom Blargg NTSC Video Filter presets which are included in RetroArch but the most recent ones can be downloaded from my Libretro Thread.
      My newest shader presets are the ones which end in NTSC or NTSC_II. They don't require any Blargg NTSC Video Filters to look their best as everything is done in the shader.
      For some examples of those you can look at some of the latest posts near the bottom of my thread.
      Thanks again for your interest. Looking forward to seeing your videos and for more users to be able to discover and share in this experience.
