I really enjoy this podcast
I just got my new 6.5x300 weatherby Accumark pro KCR from you guys and its an absolute Hammer. It just became my favorite cartridge. Accuracy is nuts. Thank you Weatherby ❤❤
As per usual, you guys never fail to impress and deliver exceptionally. Love the fact that you guys are working with Hammer bullets, they’re my new go to for big game here in Alaskan. The 196 Hammer hunter absolutely crushes game
My 6.5-300 hands down the fastest gun I have ever ever had tuned in and only took 3 rounds and was good done confident in it love it
I've certainly enjoyed my 6.5 -300 Accumark the last couple years.
It's already taken double digit numbers of big game with authority.
I'd be happy to own a 7mm-300 Wby with a 1:8 twist.
I'd be happy to settle for a 7mm Wby RPM with 1:8 in an affordable 6 lug with a heavier barrel though.
While I'm at it, I'd love to get a 307 model with a magazine option that doesn't doesn't stick down so far, in a range version with a heavier barrel.
Also, I know you are chambering things like the 7 and 300 prc, but doggone it, I already have a lot of the wby chamberings, and it would be nice to be able to get offerings with a tighter twist so a person has the option of shooting the heavy bullets without having to spend hundreds of dollars on brass dies ect.
Also as it pertains the overbores like 6.5-300 what those powders need to be used for max velocity, along with your own published data.
Instead of being so secretive about such things, wouldn't you like us customers to be able to reload with components you recommend, so people don't spend tons of money on bullets and powder and be able to have a good place to start?
I fell in love with weatherby by reading an old wby guide probably 100s of times as a child, and Roy even put some reloading data in the one my dad had anyway.
I can attest to your great customer service, but I don't know why a part of that customer service doesn't extend to providing information on how to best use your products when it comes to reloading information.
I've personally had to develop quite a few loads with a chronograph, because of a lack of data.
Thanks
Agree totally about faster twist options on other weatherby cartridges.
But as for powders for reloading this 6.5x300 for max performance is either of these 2 powders. N570 OR RL26. Those would be my guesses.
@briansupermag3918 Good powders for sure. If I were to guess, they use 869 in their ammo, because it brings the best velocity in this caliber.
Something to remember is that bullet construction is important. Hornady ELD-X and Berger bullets are essentially target bullets that are not constructed for hunting.
Very important info. I've heard plenty of horror stories.
I have a Weathermark in 6.5-300 Wby. Nice rifle and cartridge, but as a Swede still 6.5mm is quite a special caliber with the 6.5*55mm (Swedish) introduced in 1894! It's still quite popular (but the .30 cals probably is more popular these days), which makes finding 6.5mm bullets here a breeze. Getting brass for 6.5-300 is a nightmare thou...
All you need is 300 weatherby brass and neck it down to 6.5
@@jacobmullins3644 They're basically as hard and expensive actually. But since this comment I have managed to buy 100 cases and also 160 factory loaded Weatherby 140 gr Interlocks. So with reloading those 260 cases I think I'm set for the next 30 years of hunting :)
Please make a version the Apline of the Range Model 307 chambered in 30-378 or the 338-378! a light weight and affordable weatherby in these caliber would be awesome for us backpackers!
At s 1100 round barrel life, you could shoot 40 rds, every year, a lot for a hunting rifle, and that barrel will still last 26 years. After some initial practice.
Please do a podcast on the 338-378 Wby, or if you want more content to discuss, the 340 Wby and the 338-378 Wby in the same podcast.
I want a 6.5-300 bad!!! Just dont know what rifle i want just yet great video!
My 6.5-300 is running a 143 gr eld-x at 3490 fps. I'am a die hard weatherby fan. the only other round i shoot is a 220 swift. We really need Mr.Roy Weatherby's velocity quote on Weatherby t-shirts. PLEASE!!
Have you harvested anything with this, curious to know if that bullet actually survives. I’ve had fantastic results with it in my cree but that’s a crapton faster lol.
I highly doubt these numbers.
Velocity ain't free
Pressures have to be way beyond 60,000psi and that's a pipe bomb next to your face
I have the top 3 😂 300wby 257 and 6.5-300 and the 257 is still my favorite.
Same here. Excellent thought!
6.5 300 makes it a close call.
The 6.5/300 is a fantastic cartridge. No need to talk down the creedmore to make that point. Not sure what bullet you were using but if you use the right bullet for the velocity the Creedmore is a killing machine.
i drop em in their tracks with my 6.5 creed! but i also just bought a 6.5-300 and can't wait to use it!
Just not enough for the bigger game with proper shots 6.5 cred just doesn’t have the velocity and remember velocities kill with proper bullet selection and bullet placement
@@MrJtin69 I took a Cow elk with a 6.5 Creed 140 Speer Impact bullet at 325 yards. Made a good size hole and zipped right through her and she didn't go far at all. I would imagine with the 6.5/300 you could really extend the range of that bullet.
I bought my 6.5-300 just because I hate the 6.5CM so much that I just wanted to stick it to them. Why does the 127lrx not go 3530fps anymore?
I’m loading mine with 95 gr of US869 without bad over pressure signs, chronographed it at 94 gr and got almost exactly 3400 (26” barrel) so I’m not sure what it’s doing now but ya not quite reaching 3500+
Building a 6.5-300 for my deer/elk rifle.
Just pulled the trigger on a new 6.5-300 S2 First Lite. Could be my new go to stick??
Speed certainly kills barrels. My son dropped a deer in its tracks at just over 100 yds with a 6mm creedmoor. Projectile matched for the game is the name of the game. Your 3 shot “boiler room” group on that deer with the 6.5 creedmoor I bet was a heavy walled a frame of some sort. Never opened up smart money says.
where can i find load data for the 6.5-300? who publishes data?
There's not that many manufacturers unfortunately. I only know about Barnes myself: www.barnesbullets.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/6.5-300WBY.pdf
There's a lot of "third party data" thou. I've used the loads here as starting point: weatherby.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/65300_Loads.pdf
weatherby.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/65300_Loads.pdf
@ Luke…. Definitely love the BC 2.0 !!! My son bought me one in 257 and getting .25 groups at 100 w/ factory Barnes 100g. Been looking at 6.5-300 . Coming from a BC 2.0 and what I’ve gotten. Would a Talon measure up? I know loaded question, but still. Also a suggestion for the podcast and /or future pc’s. Gear review! Scopes, rangefinders, packs, etc… just my $.02 Y’all keep’em coming and also any Hammer loads coming for the 257?
@randyhenderson2634 - the talon is a great economical alternative to the Backcountry. You get the ultra lightweight Peak 44 stock a great barrel for a great price. Great reviewa are in the works - stay tuned. - Luke
When I fired my 6.5 X 300 I realized that the recoil needed to be somewhat mitigated,. I am 75 and a cancer surviver. I ordered a muzzle brake haven't tried it yet. Any thoughts on the brakes performance?
Can it shoot the same high BC, heavy for caliber rounds as the PRC?
Hey Luke, what are the two powders you are talking about? You said there are two powders that work well for optimal velocity....us869 and ??
So far my 6.5-300 likes the 156 elite hunter the best
I can't decide on trying the 127 Barnes or the 156 elite hunter
That gun in your show room was probably made in Lewistown Pa. by one Roy's friends
Have you ever experimented with this cartridge necked to 270 or 7 mm?
What round would you recommend for a shot between 150 and 600 yards?
Im leaning toward the 130 scirocco. Is that too light?
Just ordered a Weatherby Talon Vanguard in 6.5-300 to take on an Idaho hunt. Super excited!
The 130 Scirocco is a great bullet. It will hold together well at closer range and perform very well down to 1800 fps
Always wanted one but the ammo is ridiculously impossible to find
Ammo seek has 155 different purchase options right now
@@weatherby sweet, thanks for the info/reply
Price is what's holding me back 100 bucks a box ....put a terminal ascent in a loading and I'd sale my Creedmoor and prc to get one of these Ferraris
Choice ammunition is where i get mines. Custom hand loads.
Question for weatherby podcast?.. so the ethical kill with the 156 berger which i have for my 6.5-300 mark v is 2000 yards?.. or 1100 yards?
😅
So Adam since it's said the new broom sweaps cleaner.
I'd say you owe it to your grandfather to offer to corner the markets with regard to his barrels:
● Since all Weatherby guns are proprietary
●and, as such, the selection becomes more limited for gun owners (that might want a different feel & action than Weatherby can offer.
●It only makes perfect sense
●to just make all your special barrel calibers available to rebarrel any make of bolt action gun.
● (i.e., . be it a Tikka, browning AB3, Rugger go wild, Howa 1500, popular Savage / Mossberg, & Remington 700's / 7600's) could have a Weatherby aftermarket barrel.
Hence, making any Weatherby proprietary calibers....available to customers to rebarrel their choice of chassis or predetermined action (eg. given it is a presure withstand- ing action) available in a new to them yet proprietary & caliber specific Weathery -cartridge.
It gives rise to the potential of more rifle shooters becoming customers of Weatherby cartridges.....
