I really enjoy your videos. Take care of your back. Thank you and God bless
I've canned peach and pear pie filling. If I can find apples on sale I might put some back.
Remember y'all to Pray, Plan, Prep
❤🐾🐾🐾🐾 AMEN GOD BLESS US ALL!!!!
Thanks for the tips I now need a stem canner
Thats a really terrific tool. I like the Pamperd Chef one bc it peels, slices & cores. I hope i saved all the wonderful peels to make beautiful apple jelly or juice 😃👍. Love ur videos.
I found an amazing apple peeler on Amazon that peels, slices, and cores your apples. I absolutely love it. It is hand cranked but I just sit down and get them done.
I bought a manual last week, worked do awesome, I've been peeling and corinf apples by hand forever! I LOVE Tools, and this is one of my favorites ❤
I had so many patty pan squash this summer that I made mock apple pie filling and mock pineapples.
I love my apple, peeler, corer, slicer attachment for my Kitchenaid!
When you said “spend quality time with it “ I lost it! LMAO.That peeler does look interesting.Great job Leisa.
we found an apple peeler at a goodwill. I LOVE MINE!!!!
Fantastic peeler. And apples are only labor intensive until you start pitting ten pounds of cherries.
Haha! Truth!
I love to canned this. After watching this video I'll have to pick the rest of the apples and get canning again... Thanks for the inspiration....
I know exactly what you are talking about I have had back problems since I was 18 years old now in my mid fifties it has turned into arthritis take care and take breaks if you have to
🙂🌻🌼🌻
Oh my... I am definitely getting one of those 👍👍 thank you for sharing
I've had this peeler for years. It's great! I than save the peels to make apple juice for jelly. It's great!
😂 Lisa thank you for sharing
Im going to give this a try as well as the Pepper jam.
Sending prayers for your back to heal soon and blessings from
San Bernardino California 😊
Thanks for sharing the apple peeler. We went to Blake's today and picked just about 2 bushels of apples. I can't wait to get started canning these up for the winter.
I want one of these! And right now it's on special for black Friday! I'm so excited! I'm getting one for next year's apples.
As the population ages people will have those issues. I already do as I’m in my late 60’s. But I have a chair on wheels that I sit on and I have a desk in my kitchen where I prep sitting down. You just have to readjust how you do things. I refuse to give up until I can’t sit lol. I’m still canning away. I’m not as fast as others but I get the job done!
This all looks wonderful!! Hopefully the back is better SOON!
My family doesn’t like how the clear jell makes the filling gloopy. I’m leaving it out and will thicken when I open the jar for the pie.
Do you just use a simple syrup?
@@LauraS1104 follow the ball recipe and leave out clear jel
@@Foxysvacation that simple lol thank you!!
What do you use to thicken it?
You can definitely do it like that as well
Oh that happy apple pie rumbling, made me giggle.
Oh sweetie, I too have to back issues & I've learned to sit at the table and do everything I can. Hope you feel better soon
I used apple pie spice in mine. Took it to the next level😜❤
I know you already bought this- but for those with kitchen aid mixers? The corer slicer attachment is amazing. I use it for squash, apples- potatoes, et. Love it and it’s a back saver as well.
Those apples look so good. I think I’m going to try to find some where I live and can up some this year. Thanks for the info on the electric peeler.
I make apple pie filling without thicker, just add it when making the pie. Also, you can use the canned apples for other dishes
The pie filling looks delicious!
Wow! That apple peeler is great! I like that it can be used with electricity or batteries. I couldn't do all those apples either
Thank you. I cannot stand long myself anymore. Unfortunately! I am at my kitchen table sitting uncomfortable for hours prepping for all projects now. I love my vacuum sealer, time for a new toy.😂
I just got mine today. Love it
Sorry, I wanted to wish you and your family a happy Thanksgiving. I'm so thankful that I found your wonderful channel.
I have an apple peeler, corer attachment for my kitchen aid, I love it
I just wrapped up my apple pie canning. I always cut the sugar in half and for the other half I use Allulose sugar substitute. I even use all allulose in my jams and jellies.
I also use mine to peel potatoes as well😎
My husband uses a drill with one of the flat head bits and I use an apple peeler takes seconds!! We still need to use that corer thing to core and slice (then I cut those pieces in half) but the drill works fast!!! 🙂
I'm kind of surprised that NCHFP hasn't never reevaluated the headspace recommendation for apple pie filling. It seems like maybe it's something to do with the clearjel? Maybe because it's hot, then it cools while you're mixing in the apples and filling the jars, then gets heated up again? Normal cornstarch doesn't do that when you cook with it, but clearjel is modified to be able to thicken as it cools, get liquid again when heated, and then rethicken (which is why it works so well for home-canned pie filling).
The way to beat the peeler would be to get one of those (manual) gadgets that press down on top of the apple and it cores it and slices the apples for you. I hardly think of it as a "gadget" its just a super simple (and fast) way to core and slice apples for kids or grandkids to dip in peanut butter. They're like $5 or less, but it's worth looking around for one that has "wedges" the right size for you.
I buy "utility" Golden Delicious apples for pie filling. They are apples with spots & blemishes. I use the hand crank peeler, corer & slicer & it works okay. I'm sure it would work better on more perfect apples without blemishes.
I have 2 that hand crank and just last year bought the on that fits my kitchen aide. Had to make 30 lbs of potato salad. Love it totally a game changer!
You can use the electric peeler for potatoes too.😊 You should maybe get a chair that's matches your counter, so you don't have to stand so long.
Thank you
With back issues this gadget let's me do so much you will love it it does so many other fruits an o yes potatoes
Love my peeler, also great for potato and peach prep. Use those apple and peach peels to make vinegar…you’ve got some cool half gallon jars to make it in. I use Mary’s Nest Method. Fermented Homestead may have some directions…can’t use for canning, because I have no way to measure acidity, but oh how amazing the salad dressings I make taste. Try it!
Tomorrow is apple day. I'm doing them seasoned in medium simple syrup, adding corn starch later.
You are a kid with a new toy! YAY You!
Mine siphons a bit, too. I think thats the reason they have you blanch the apples to get out some of the air.
Take those apple strings and make apple cider vinegar or apple brandy 👍
YUMMM
Never heard of the difference between a steam canner and a water bath canner
You can easily make apple cider vinegar with the scraps. Just toys them in a food grade bucket with water covering them, store in some sugar, then stir once or so daily for 4-6 weeks when you walk by. Keep covered with a towel to keep out fruit flies. Voila!
Sad that our backs go out mire often than we do 😅😵
No kidding!
@@SuttonsDaze 💗
That doesn’t seem like a time savings at all! That noise would drive me nuts. My three bushels are done in filling, apple butter, apple bbq sauce and mostly into 8 1/2 gallons dehydrated slices
That noise is nothing compared to extreme back pain. We all pick our own battles. And it does save quite a bit of time.
I don’t know if anyone mentioned it yet but there is an apple peeler and corer out there but it’s not electric.
And would have had me in traction before the first apple was done
Checking out the peeler😊..
I am in love with it
Ive got 3 20 gallon totes and a trash can of apples and im crying
LINK TO WHISK PLEASE? It looks like a much higher quality than the crappy ones that the wires bend out of shape on you (the loopy ones?!?)
It is a retired pampered chef product
Yum
Can you use an electric water bath canner?
Yrs
I believe you missed wiping the middle jar closest to you.
It was edited out, but thanks
Hello. Is that 20 PDS of apple after peeled and cored? Or right from the bag? Thank you. Sorry if I missed it.
I weighed before
@@SuttonsDaze Thankyou sooooo much love your channel!!
Where did u order the electric peeler from? That is a trick.
In the description box below
Where do you get the clear gel?
Amazon
I have had one for years but you have to crank the lever. It's not as fun as yours but it's better than peeling them by hand. 😊
The jars look great, and that peeler looks like a great investment. Ive been putting off getting apples cause it hurts my back to stand n peel them.
Why dont you have a seat while you peel?
I use one of the old fashioned peelers that cores and slices. Love it! Here's my back fix, after 6 back surgeries, I keep a tall padded swivel stool in my kitchen during canning season so I can sit while working the peeler and stirring!
The right tools make this big job so much easier.. When making apple pie filling, I use pure apple cider rather than water- & I find the extra flavor is worth the extra cost!
I made apple pie filling for the first time about a month ago. That was a messy sticky process! LOL.
I don't even like apple pie personally. But I love to put apple pie filling in my oatmeal. So I just put it in smaller jars.
I also have back issues. I use the manual peeler/corer. I sit at living room table, turn on tv and go.
I’m getting some apples tomorrow and I will be making apple butter, but I may have to make apple pie filling also. I have some cleargel so I am good to go. I also take my cores and peels and make apple vinegar. Thank you for this timely video. Take care.
I just purchased a Norpro apple peeler corer slicer. Like you I like thicker slicer for pie filling so I only use the peeler option. Then I use an XOXO corer/slicer. What a difference! I did 6 quarts in half the time of hand peeling! Yay.
My only issue with canning is that my apples break down more than I like.
I used Macs and Cortlands. Any suggestions on firmer apples? I live in New England and these are what most pick your orchards offer.
Sorry for the long comment 😝
Thank you and I’m happy to see that you are on the mend.
What
I have the same issue with my back, if I stand for long periods of time. My husband went and bought me a Huskey work bench that raises up and down. It has a couple of tool drawers too. I sit on a stool when I have a lot of prep-work to do. I love it.
I've found with pie filling that I have to leave a smidge more headspace. The Clear Jel expands.
That will also do potatoes!!! And...... take the potato peels, spritz with oil, add salt and put in the air fryer! Yum. Add cinnamon and sugar ti the apple peels, and do the same thing!!
Apple peel jelly is amazing.
@Suttons Daze I have the attachment for my Kitchen Aid that peels, cores and slices.
Leisa - loved this video! They look amazing!
I have a peeler attachment for my kitchen aid mixer. It peel, slices, and cores , or you set it to onley peel the apple. It's great!! For those who have a kitchen aid.
I will look into that kitchen aid attachment. Thanks for the info
I just canned some of this a couple days ago! It is great warmed over ice cream. There’s so many uses for it! Thanks for this video! I have more apples to go through! I need to get that peeler!!!😂
Leisa. What a dream come true! I have a manual apple peeler but struggle to get the apples on an off of the prongs. I am getting this for my daughter as well! Thank you ❤
That’s great. I need one.
I bought a bar stool to sit at the counter to save my back. I killed it with peaches.
Another great show
Thanks!
I wish the stool worked for me. Eventually we'll get this figured out
I can't stand long enough to do too much in my kitchen. I have a small table Ser up for slicing/dicing fruits/veggies and use my computer chair at its highest point. It works for me.
Girl, get a bar stool chair and pull it up to the counter and sit on it, helps my back alot
😮 i gotta have one! I have 3 non healing fractures in my spine and 2 pinched nerves. I do everything sitting. This eould be great. Than you who shared this 🥰
Wow I am just catching up on video and that peeler wow this looks great thank you Leisa and the person who sent the link to you I am now going to search for a place I can get one and if it works for apples wonder what it will be like with potatoes 🙂🧡🍁🍂🧡
Mine has a manual hand crank, but I like yours better. I’ve never seen deer apples that look so good like yours. They almost look like red delicious. The deer apples my mom had in her yard were very small. I always loved watching the deer stretch their necks to reach them in the trees. Great memories at mom’s house.
Golly Leisa this really is a game changer. I am hoping to get out to the pick-ur-own orchard but to buy already picked apples (Braeburn, Jonagolds) but was hesitating. I live alone, so I’ll probably dehydrate a lot of them -I used to make apple chips in the oven. I know this will speed me along! Thanks
I have the old fashion version, but I remove the handle and connect a drill to it.
Got mine last year after my back went out too. It’s a game changer! Glad you found it ❤
Hi, If you take all your peelings and use your steam juicer, you will get a few quarts of apple juice.
I have had a manual one of these for about 15 years and it cores and slices too. I love it. Almost off grid ❤
I have the same kind of manual peeler. It makes slices thinner than the recipe calls for. Have you made pie filling with the thinner slices? Did you notice a difference?
I bought my ForJars lids using your code and haven't had a seal fail yet. So impressed! Thanks.
Glad you like them!
Do you know if thermo-flo and perma-flo can be interchanged? The Amish use them instead of clear gel... can we do that?
Thermoforming is like clear gel, you're good
I have a Johnny Apple Peeler it's manual, but it peels cores and slices in one take. It also works for potatoes I love it Sometimes I only peel the apples and use my little round corer and slicer for a thicker slice. OH As an aside: Re Dry canning I'm seeing more and more on the FB boards about people dry canning other vegetables! OMG Green Beans?? NOOOOO
Hi Lisa, I messed up my applied pie filling. I put 3/4 cups of clear jel to 7 cups of apples. They siphoned, but t hey all sealed. Are they ok? I did 13 jars.
Great video. Please rest. I worry about you overworking yourself. Thanks so much. Love 💕 and Hugs. ❤❤❤
I am putting that apple peeler on my Christmas list. I canned 30 qts apple pie filling, 10 qts of apple slices, dehydrated 4 qts apple slices, 30 pints applesauce and have both dehydrators full of apple cubes, with enough prepared apple cubes to refill both the dehydrators. My back has not been a fan of all this peeling
That peeler will be my ability to can apples due to my fingers and back! Thank you🥰
I have that same peeler! It was a real lifesaver for me when doing potatoes! I went to go use it this year, and the darn thing wouldn’t work. Probably user error, lol!
Also, everyone has different back troubles, but for me … I find that having a soft office chair in my kitchen, allows me time to sit and work when I need to.
You use the apple cores for apple brandy, and the apple peels can make apple syrup..,
Your pie crust looks yummy. Have you done a video on that?
Wow I had one of those about a month ago and didn't know how to make it work. And gave it away. So glad you showed this vido. Thank you for sharing.
You are so welcome!
HEY LEISA they make a peeler that cores and slices and oeller
