- In this video I talk about the TOP COMIC BOOKS to invest in for 2023 before its too late! 2022 was a great year for the MCU and a great year for comics and although things have slowed down a bit, 2023 feels like its going to be a great year to buy! So I wanted to put together a video to bring in the new year which could serve as a guide for what books to spec or invest on for each Marvel property coming out this year. Whether they be a Disney Plus show or movie, all the properties have a lot of great books that you may want to consider picking up before they get too hot in the market. Feel free to use the timestamps below to fast forward to whichever show or movie you are most interested in, otherwise sit back, relax and get those ebay watchlists ready because this is going to be a long one! 2022 had a lot of Hyping of movies/shows, comics of those properties getting overpriced, people not enjoying the movies/shows and soon after the comics plummet in value, Im sure this year will be the same.
If not worse.

Was about to say the same.. he said he would only come back if he felt he could continue to do the character justice, but its Disney. I don’t see how it could happen unless they went flat out R with him to maintain the same level of violence and tenacity as before.
Rumor is they might get rid of the skull. We shall see.

Great overview as always. The saddest part is most will overlook Hulk 156 which is part of a storyline originally written by Harlan Ellison and Roy Thomas. It was the introduction of Hulk’s love interest Jarella. I of course own several copies of issues 140, 148, 156, 202 and 203. 😊

Swaggle, I love the video. I feel you had enough stuff here for 4-5 videos. Just a suggestion, you could break it up in parts. I scanned through because almost 54 minutes was too long for me to watch. This is not negative feedback just a suggestion. Keep on rocking in 2023 !!!
hehe, yeah, this was a LONG one, probably too long. But I figure it can be a video people revisit when they have time or need to research later in the year.
This was a better and more intriguing spec vid than I expected. Do you think swampy Man-Thing will be in Agatha, too? He proved to be a 2022 MCU fav. 1602 would make an interesting Marvel Disney+ mini-series or 2 hour streaming special. Also, Gaiman is more front-facing because of Sandman on Netflix and Disney might want to capitalize on that. Mantis has Kang connections and if they do any variation of that in MCU her books will likely spike.
Great points! I guess its possible that Man-Thing could show up, but I try to only stick to the books that have had substantial rumors. I def think we will see that character again though.

Be careful with fomo based off future movies. Disney and MCU may ruin some of these characters like punisher and X-Men. I don’t see Riri ironheart being collectible either….just too brand new and folks aren’t connecting with a lot of these new knockoffs. Collect what you love and those keys 🔑
The Watcher is in Guardians of the Galaxy #2 during the bit where Stan Lee is explaining his cameos on an asteroid.
Also we saw Jane Foster go to Valhalla in the post credits of Thor 4, so its reasonable to assume Hela is still sort of around.
My favourite Skrull was Lyja, loved how she spent ages married to the Torch & the dummy never even noticed.

I think hulk 156 coincides with savage dragon homage cover of this. Herb trimpe did both and the SD is a hard one to find
You make really good videos Swag but I think it's time to pivot away from the M-She-U and their pump and dumps which have crippled alot of collectors and books themselves. I think if you want to invest using comics ATM, collect Silver Age Spider-Man or Golden Age Batman. Disney Marvel are dead set on killing the markets and characters.
Hopefully they turn it around. My point for this video is just informational. At the end of the day the best "investments" are any books that you buy with equity already. Which I think I do a good job of explaining on the channel. This is more of a "hey if you see these books for good deals, the market might have eyes on them later on"

Silly to buy investment books based on films. They get a temporary bump at best. Most of the shows suck and kill any price gains. Case and point - Moon Knight.

I guess nobody is counting Marvel's Epic imprint as Marvel? Hellraiser #20 (Jan. 1993) is the first Neil Gaiman comic book work published by Marvel, but it is outside the MCU and is not a superhero story (based instead within the Clive Barker lore of Pinhead and the Cenobites).

I did just that. Long story short, bad time to spec on MCU books, you would have lost your shirt on everything on the list except Avengers 112 possibly.

Old-schoolers hostility to M-She-U had a lot to do with Ms. Marvel #1''s volatility. Ms. Marvel #1 at about $1K in 9.8 today appears to be very undervalued, especially having been in the $3K-$4K range in the 2nd half of 2018, long before the pandemic. It seems like people are forgetting that it already took (too much of) a hit frm the M-She-U reaction, so any further market correction now seems like overkill.
What matters most long-term is the relevance to pop culture and/or lasting footprint. The Spectre, a prominent Golden Age character yet to be showcased on the big screen by DC, remains a ridiculously expensive book because he remains relevant to pop culture. There is no question that Carol Danvers, both before in the comics but now certainly because of the movies/shows (both past and future), was and continues to be significant to pop culture. Danvers has been in as many real movies (5: Captain Marvel; Avengers: Endgame; Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings; Ms. Marvel; The Marvels ) as Wonder Woman! Her inclusion in some of the biggest movies of all-time (including THE biggest in End Game) means she will NEVER be forgotten, especially considering those hits are likely to be watched over and over again in the coming decades. And so long as Disney (which includes 20th Century Fox), Warner Bros, Paramount, Universal, Sony, etc., continue to make women-led blockbuster or big movies, we will always be reminded of Carol Danvers as Ms. Marvel. Look at the MCU and Star Wars movies, but also the current Avatar, and even non-superhero stuff like Smile--all carried by women.
Unlike The Spectre, Ms. Marvel is BA. But consider the census. Unlike other Bronze Age keys, Ms. Marvel is relatively uncommon in high grade. After all this time with the slabbing frenzy, there are only 303 blue 9.8s + 27 sig series 9.8s out of 7,900 total graded books! That's only 4%! That suggests significant upside for this BA key, especially once the effect of old- vs new-school fades and the redefining of IP (to become more cultarally sensitive/inclusive) becomes the norm (if it isn't already!). Anyway, those are my thoughts.

Hey happy new year anyway I would never panic with amazing fantasy 15. Lots of bad things happened last year in the comic book market but amazing fantasy 15 .5 just sold for $16,000 that’s a few thousand dollars more than the last sale so if you have any copy of amazing fantasy 15 I would not panic. But the strange news is I got rid of my copy I told you love tells to astonish 27 7.5 when go collect had the market value at $9000 well CBCS of the same book I mentioned before sold for less than $9000 7.5 and it looked much better than my copy. Well you never know with the market but I would never panic with amazing fantasy 15.

Well like I say at the start, just buy what you like and always try to get books with equity. Any book can "hit" just depends on what you buy it for.

I personally think the movie hype train is over. That was kind of weird. A character appears in a film than its first character appearance skyrockets. I'm surprised that the business model lasted so long. Last years super hero movies and TV shows were tepid, Eternals the poster boy. Hope this year is better. Might be worse, as no Batman movie this year, but I think the bubble has burst with a lot of collecting categories. Hope I am wrong.

Great video and no offense to you personally but MCU specs are a joke now. All we have seen is that anything tied to MCU specs eventually come crashing down hard and they don’t recover. Eternals, Shang Chi, Thor, etc etc. Just buy what you like and let the characters stand on their own merit. Tying anything to the MCU is a recipe for disaster.

That's actually not accurate as I explain what the point of this video is. As I say on the channel over and over again, what you pay for a comic book and your entry point into it is way more important than what book you are buying, when you are talking about returns.
@@Swagglehaus if you put "before it's too late" in the title it implies now is the best, cheapest time to aquire these books. In the 2022 video a year later (ie right now) would be a MUCH better time to buy any of those books except maybe Avengers 112, and a year from now may be an even better time.
Do NOT buy ANY spec books or buy into any of that hype. Save your money enough till you can buy decent silver age books and keys and hold on to them. People spec-ing and hype of tv shows and movies ruins everything. One of the best examples of this is the Werewolf by Night Moon Knight appearance book. Collect ONLY comics that will be really worth something. Trendy people jumping in is not good, movie hype..tv hype...all trash.
