I would have put more DC covers in there. Similarly to the Iron Man cover, the Green Arrow/Green Lantern cover with Speedy doing heroin is iconic. Other famous ones include The Crisis on Infinite Earths cover with Superman holding Supergirl, Green Lantern with Hal looking crazy and having his fingers full of rings, The Death of Superman cover, and The Dark Knight Returns
Yes, I was very surprised not to see the Crisis on Infinite Earths or Death of Superman covers included! All great comics on this list but, there were a couple covers I feel like are a little more visually obscure than those two are.
I recently got a graded copy of this book, signed by Adams and O'Neil. As someone in recovery from heroin, it was my holy grail book. Absolutely iconic, and was one of a few books to usher in a new era of comics.
Death of Superman, Death of Robin and the Dark Knight covers all deserve to be on this list as truly iconic covers. We throw around the words “iconic” and “legendary “ too easily nowadays. However you have true iconic status when your covers make INTERNATIONAL news and go on to define an entire era of comics and irrevocably change the future of the industry
This one's on the simpler end but I love Daredevil #53's cover art by Gene Colan. The simple imagery of Daredevil literally weighing the scales of justice with him on one end and criminals on the other is a very quick but striking encapsulation of the character
My list would obviously have Jim Lee's X-Men V.2 #1, and personal favorite Steranko's Nick Fury, Agent of SHIELD #4. Love that psychedelic art he used! Ive always wanted a framed poster of it.
Amazing video!👍👏 I just began my comic book collection and found Toon Haven. They have an incredible range of digital comics for every genre, including the hard to find ones. Lifetime updates too!😁
I really like The Watchmen #1 cover. It just draws you in the way only icons can. The happy face with a drop of blood screams,"What the heck is this? What kind of mess is Alan Moore getting us into now??
The fact that the 4 variant cover X-Men 1 by Jim Lee isn't on here is mind blowing to me. Yes, everything listed is a single cover.... But THAT is the single most memorable cover for me. Hands down, full stop
idk as much as I love that comic and the X-Men, variant covers of a single issue were always cheesy cash grabs to me. Never liked it as a kid growing up in the 90’s. I’m glad the list stuck with single covers.
In the new X-Men team, John Proudstar went by the name Thunderbird. It was his brother, James, that used the moniker, Warpath. For additional possibly more iconic comic covers, Marvel Comics #1, Sterenko's first Nick Fury: Agents of SHIELD where he used op art and pop art on the cover, and/or Ditko's Doctor Strange. Also the Brave and the Bold issue that introduced the Justice League ( I can't remember the issue number) or the Showcase issue with Barry Allen Flash running out of the film strip.
My personal #1 is The Uncanny X-Men 141 cover. I’m a sucker for cool post apocalyptic time travel storyline. Not to mention the cover has a great spin-off design for DBZ Future Trunks’ story.
A helluva list & it must have been daunting to narrow it down to so few. There have been tens of thousands to choose from but I`m glad to see some of My all-time favorite artists represented. Great job.
Not gonna lie, feels like tho video should have two more. One for dc famous comic book covers and one for marvel. Because they both have so many good one!!!
I heard Stan Lee put Black Panther on the cover of a comic against his boss's wishes. His boss was adamant about no black superheroes being on comic book covers. So Stan outsmarted by putting one in a full body suit. Thought that one might be on the list based on the thumbnail. Don't know if that comic in thumbnail was that particular comic
1st punisher from amazing spider man 129, new teen titans 2, Deathstroke, daredevil 158, swamp thing 1, lobo mini series Simon bisley any covers, spider man 300, spawn 1, are easy, but there's so many it's impossible to pin it down 😔👍
Can you do the history of magneto, zorro, judge dredd, Cassie hack, qwenpool, hit monkey, vamperrella, moon girl & devil dinosaur and league of extraordinary gentlemen
I was hoping Demon in a Bottle would make this list and am happy it did. Also, I DID have a signed copy of Hulk 181- until one of my younger brothers stole it and sold it...
The Secret Wars issue with Hulk holding up an entire mountain range on his back is cooler to me. It's one of the first non-Spider-Man comics I remember buying as a kid.
I love this list. You could make it a series. 'Best covers of the '90s', Best covers of Alex Ross', 'Best covers of Jim Lee', 'Most controversial covers of all time'. I think that would be great!
Really great choices of covers. But there is also 1 or should I say 5 that are also iconic. From the Legendary Jim Lee The Iconic X-Men 5 issues covers showing the X-men attacking Magneto, & cyclops blasting Magento with his eye beam, & Magneto covers himself with Magnetic Shield and se his might :)
My favorite is the one where the hulk is wearing bunny slippers and carrying a massive gun ... Another one that sticks out to me Hal Jordan smiling holding about 2 dozen Green lantern rings on his hands. It's the beginning of the parallax story / emerald Twilight
These are definitely iconic covers. And I can clearly see the method behind the madness! When I think of “Greatest” comic covers I also I think of… Silver Surfer 4 Avengers 57 ASM 300 Spiderman 1 (McFarlane) Batman 227 Batman 251 Batman 497 Brave and the Bold 28 House of Secrets 92 Secret Wars 8 Fantastic Four 49 Fun list. I had a great time watching.
I think a video for top 10 MODERN comic book covers would be really cool! Because some covers in the modern era have become iconic in their own right and helped redefine the character (such as that Jim Lee Batman with the giant cape)
Dad bought me every DC and Marvel comic he could afford, including Daredevil #1, Avengers #1, and many others. The one I remember is Avengers #4, the rebirth of Captain America. Imagine my joy when I found that cover on a tee shirt on Amazon. I bought it, of course, but 2 years on, I don't know if it fits me, I can't bring myself to take it out of the cellophane pack in case it gets dirty
Great picks. I would make an argument for Green Lantern/Green Arrow 85. Maybe in place of the Iron Man cover. No complaints though. Also want to throw a vote for Dark Knight Returns #1 and McFarlane's Spider-Man #1. With an honorable mention for every Alex Ross cover ever.
I’m legitimately shocked at how difficult my Top 10 covers would be. No Fatal Attractions with Magneto ripping out Wolverine’s adamantium? No Paralax with two hands full of rings?
Speaking of the iconic cover of "The Killing Joke" by Brian Bolland, the author himself made a few years ago a pretty similar art that depicts Walter Kovacs (Rorschach) holding a Rorschach test card in front of his eye while saying to the reader "A Sweet Butterfly". It's a quite funny self-parody, actually
Can you do history of Cyclone, Rhino, Sandman, Kraven the Hunter, Chameleon, Scorpion and the Human Fly along with Kurt Connors the Lizard. Also can you do the history of the Flash Villains like Turtle, Magenta, Cobalt Blue, Mirror Master and Top?
I know its hard to pick and many had to be left behind. I assume one of those is the X-Men.... Number number, with the Dark Phoenix crushing the logo (along with Death of Superman and some truly iconic Avengers and JLA covers). Then again I understand why Giant Size Xmen got the spotlight instead.
I feel like a flaw in this list is that a lot of the covers were placed on the list more for the significance of the issue itself, rather than the art of the cover itself
Understandable this is a hard list to do, even if you just kept it to first appearance covers or first issues the list would go from here to the moon. Adding in any other cover just makes it a harder choice especially since everyone will have their own favourites from what their first was or who their favourite character is. Would love to see a part 2 hopefully with the iconic Snow Birds Don't Fly in it.
Jim lee covers of X-men #1, The New Teen Titans: Judas Contract, Crisis on Infinite Earth: Supergirl Death, and either The New Teen Titans Collectors #1, or The Terror of Trigon.
asm 39, ff 3... dave stevens, mark schultz had some pretty cool covers as did frazetta and all the ec guys... geez how could anyone pick only ten? impossible.
Since you did history of Marvel's Black Knight, Can you do history of Marvel's Dreadknight? If you seen the recent episodes of season 7 of the Flash, can you do history of Impulse, XS, Psych, Fuerza, Steadfast, Chillblaine, Abracadabra, Rainbow Raider, Mirror Master and Top in your next video?
I think the Incredible Hulk number one should've gotten a spot on this list because it's the first monster superhero to get his own series. Yes Ben Grimm did you before the Hulk, but Ben didn't get his own book until the 70s and early 80s plus it's a jack Kirby cover.
Any chance you would ever talk about the limited Jurassic League mini series they did last year? Honestly one of my more favorite minis I’ve read in a minute!
Need a video on Iron Monger (Obadiah Stane) Yellow Jacket 🐝 (Darren Cross), Whiplash (Anton Vanko), Malekith The Accursed, Ghost 👻 and Ronan The Accuser.

😎
The Dark Knight Returns cover. The one where he's in front of the lighting bolt.. just masterclass.
Totally
Totally, Couldn't agree more
@@quentinfogger5755m😊m
fr, no cap
Death of Superman not being a top 10 comic cover is a travesty, it’s both beautifully tragic, and absolutely iconic.
meh, is it tho?
The blood-soaked S shield?
Great Selection👍👍
This was the first one I thought of that wasnt on the list
Same thoughts here
The Death of Superman is iconic, that shot of the torn cape gets me every time.
Yeah, Marvel fans need to go to hell!
Yeah, I was waiting for Hard Traveling Heroes. "Your ward is a junkie!"
Totally agree... It's GL/GA #85
Not a superhero comic but I loved the vault of horror covers
I could say the same about Adventure Time and Danny Phantom title cards.
HOUSE OF MYSTERY my favorite
Death of Superman, Death of Robin and the Dark Knight covers all deserve to be on this list as truly iconic covers. We throw around the words “iconic” and “legendary “ too easily nowadays. However you have true iconic status when your covers make INTERNATIONAL news and go on to define an entire era of comics and irrevocably change the future of the industry
This one's on the simpler end but I love Daredevil #53's cover art by Gene Colan. The simple imagery of Daredevil literally weighing the scales of justice with him on one end and criminals on the other is a very quick but striking encapsulation of the character
SHUT YOUR MOUTH!!!! DC COMICS IS BETTER!!!! 🤬🤬🤬🤬
Definitely a top 20.
Love the fact that the cover of Action Comics #1 was homaged in scenes in both SUPERMAN RETURNS and an episode of SUPERMAN AND LOIS.
My list would obviously have Jim Lee's X-Men V.2 #1, and personal favorite Steranko's Nick Fury, Agent of SHIELD #4. Love that psychedelic art he used! Ive always wanted a framed poster of it.
How the hell is Watchmen #1 not on the list? Its bloody Smiley badge is both iconic and unique.
The Watchmen cover is just iconic. When I see a smiley face, I think of Watchmen.
Another Marvel fan here, just go to HELL 🤬
Thank you!! That’s what I’m saying. When I think comics, that’s what I think.
idk as much as I love that comic and the X-Men, variant covers of a single issue were always cheesy cash grabs to me. Never liked it as a kid growing up in the 90’s. I’m glad the list stuck with single covers.
That would have been great to see on this list. What other X-Men comics is as good as this one?
That's the cover that got me to read comics.
X-Men 137 is a personal favorite but issue 141 is an amazing iconic cover.
Any chance we could get another top 10 for more “modern” comic book covers?
Very cool list! I would have put the Green Lantern and Green Arrow "My Ward is a Junkie!" cover from the '70s somewhere on the list.
Killing Joke: Not a comic cover. It was instead the cover for a same-titled graphic novel.
- Nick Picker
In the new X-Men team, John Proudstar went by the name Thunderbird. It was his brother, James, that used the moniker, Warpath. For additional possibly more iconic comic covers, Marvel Comics #1, Sterenko's first Nick Fury: Agents of SHIELD where he used op art and pop art on the cover, and/or Ditko's Doctor Strange. "Showcase issue with Barry Allen Flash running out of the film strip." Excellent cover. Top 20
You said “Warpath” on the cover of the giant sized X-Men #1, it wasn’t. That’s Warpath’s older brother, Thunderbird.
My favorite one is the spider man one! His first apparence🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
SHUT YOUR MOUTH!!!! DC COMICS IS BETTER!!!! 🤬🤬🤬🤬
My personal #1 is The Uncanny X-Men 141 cover. I’m a sucker for cool post apocalyptic time travel storyline. Not to mention the cover has a great spin-off design for DBZ Future Trunks’ story.
Just shut up Marvel fan!!!! Stop telling people to read Marvel Comics, cause they aren't, Marvel Comics sucks, people aren't gonna listen to you
should've been on here.
First one to come to my mind and it blows away the other two covers with Wolverine in it.
That would be been great to see being featured on this list
A helluva list & it must have been daunting to narrow it down to so few. There have been tens of thousands to choose from but I`m glad to see some of My all-time favorite artists represented. Great job.
Swamp thing had some very good covers. The old DC horror series Unexpected also had some good ones.
You should do separate lists for marvel and dc comic covers
If somebody did a Top 50, then surely Crisis on Infinite Earths (with Superman and Supergirl) and Savage Dragon #1 could make the list.
Not gonna lie, feels like tho video should have two more. One for dc famous comic book covers and one for marvel. Because they both have so many good one!!!
Hey Arris! Love what you and the variant team are doing! Keep it up❤
I heard Stan Lee put Black Panther on the cover of a comic against his boss's wishes.
Thanks for letting me know how the Comic Book Multiverses started.
I was hoping Demon in a Bottle would make this list and am happy it did. Also, I DID have a signed copy of Hulk 181- until one of my younger brothers stole it and sold it...
I love Watchmen cover. It’s yellow colored happy face grabs your attention as you walk in a bookstore among the rest of the comics.
On the cover of XMen giant size is Thunderbird not Warpath. Warpath is Thunderbird's brother.
The greatest cover of all time is Spider-Man 1 by Todd McFarlane. I have multiple copies and a bunch of variants
yep
For me the best is the dark knight returns cover feature batman.
It's pretty insane.
My list would be extremely similar, although I'd definitely put Secret Wars 8 up there for a very obvious reason.
Crisis: Superman holding a deceased Supergirl
Would be on my top 10
My favorite is the one where the hulk is wearing bunny slippers and carrying a massive gun
...
Another one that sticks out to me Hal Jordan smiling holding about 2 dozen Green lantern rings on his hands. It's the beginning of the parallax story / emerald Twilight
this countdown shows no matter what advances and styles in art you put in a comic nowadays, nothing can beat/compete with the original covers..
Love how Spider-Man's 1st appearance gives away his secret identity lol
These are definitely iconic covers. And I can clearly see the method behind the madness!
When I think of “Greatest” comic covers I also I think of…
Silver Surfer 4
Avengers 57
ASM 300
Spiderman 1 (McFarlane)
Batman 227
Batman 251
Batman 497
Brave and the Bold 28
House of Secrets 92
Secret Wars 8
Fantastic Four 49
Fun list. I had a great time watching.
I think a video for top 10 MODERN comic book covers would be really cool! Because some covers in the modern era have become iconic in their own right and helped redefine the character (such as that Jim Lee Batman with the giant cape)
Extremely surprised that the Death of Superman one didn't make it here.
I would have thought it's more iconic than the Joker/Barbara Gordon one
Dad bought me every DC and Marvel comic he could afford, including Daredevil #1, Avengers #1, and many others.
The one I remember is Avengers #4, the rebirth of Captain America. Imagine my joy when I found that cover on a tee shirt on Amazon.
I bought it, of course, but 2 years on, I don't know if it fits me, I can't bring myself to take it out of the cellophane pack in case it gets dirty
X men vol.2 #1 is my personal favorite
I am actually surprised Death of Superman cover didn't make the list
Honorable mention: secret wars #8, the first time the black spiderman suit was introduced.
This episode should've been called the most historical comic book cover of all time!!!
I would add the cover to wolverine#1 by Frank miller
Great video as always, keep up the great work
Had to be action comics first appearance of superman
My all-time favor cover is Wolverine 38 because that was my very first comic book.
I'm disappointed X-men #1 by Jim Lee didn't make the list. That's the cover that got me started on reading comics.😊
I’m legitimately shocked at how difficult my Top 10 covers would be.
No Fatal Attractions with Magneto ripping out Wolverine’s adamantium?
No Paralax with two hands full of rings?
Can't argue with the covers, but, now do same video for 80s, 90s, and 00s please!
Preacher and Hellblazer Are My Favorites Hands down
Can you do history of Cyclone, Rhino, Sandman, Kraven the Hunter, Chameleon, Scorpion and the Human Fly along with Kurt Connors the Lizard. Also can you do the history of the Flash Villains like Turtle, Magenta, Cobalt Blue, Mirror Master and Top?
One of my all favorites is secret wars#10. Iconic Dr. Doom cover
Cool series! Keep them coming
Not disagreeing but honorable mentions, Spiderman 300 and Secret Wars 8 and Dark Knight Returns!!!
my personal favorite has to be secret wars #10 with doctor doom fighting the beyonder
Thank you for sharing, keep doing what you do!!!
Fantastic Four #5 or #48 not making the list is crazy to me. Those covers are basically synonymous with Marvel’s first family
Jim lee covers of X-men #1, The New Teen Titans: Judas Contract, Crisis on Infinite Earth: Supergirl Death, and either The New Teen Titans Collectors #1, or The Terror of Trigon.
asm 39, ff 3... dave stevens, mark schultz had some pretty cool covers as did frazetta and all the ec guys... geez how could anyone pick only ten? impossible.
My Top 10 Would Be
10 The Sensational She-Hulk 34
9 Sensational Comics 3
8 Batman The Dark Knight Returns 2
7 Amazing Spider-Man 39
6 Wolverine (mini-series) 1
5 Crime Suspenstories 22
4 X-Men 1
3 Incredible Hulk 340
2 Detective Comics 27
1 Acton Comics 1
Great stuff. Thanks for sharing
Super helpful, totally worth watching
The only other cover i would add is that "Snow birds don't fly"
A sidekick fallen.....
I think the Incredible Hulk number one should've gotten a spot on this list because it's the first monster superhero to get his own series. Yes Ben Grimm did you before the Hulk, but Ben didn't get his own book until the 70s and early 80s plus it's a jack Kirby cover.
Who could believe that the comic where Superman made his debut is the top of this list followed by the comic where Batman made his debut?
Any chance you would ever talk about the limited Jurassic League mini series they did last year? Honestly one of my more favorite minis I’ve read in a minute!
I think infinity gauntlet might be my favorite
Leaving out ASM 300 bothered me , but all the rest were Great choices
I would put here, Batman dead on the family where Batman is holding robin's corpse. That's sucha a great cover
I would have had the Superman vs. Muhammad Ali cover in the top 3 because of all the celebrities depicted in it.
So many great choices but a pretty good list overall especially the top 3.
Really now... *NO* Jim Lee's X-Men (1991) #1 ???? 🤦🤦🤦
The argument could go on forever!
History of X from Claremont and miller deserves more than wolverines first appearance in my opinion
Some honorable mentioned:
Death of Superman
Snowbirds Don’t Fly
Green Lantern #49
The Dark Knight Returns
Crisis on Infinite Earths #7
This list needed a Top 50
Need a video on Iron Monger (Obadiah Stane) Yellow Jacket 🐝 (Darren Cross), Whiplash (Anton Vanko), Malekith The Accursed, Ghost 👻 and Ronan The Accuser.
The wolverine with hulk in the reflection of his claws
Wow, fantastic video. Thanks a lot!
Need to make a sequel video for this
The Greatest Cover hasn't been drawn yet 😏
Art is subjective but not one cover by George Perez? Any one of his Crisis covers could have made it in my opinion but the ones chosen are great 👍
The Death of Superman. That black bag, w/ the bloody Superman logo.
ASM and Hulk were some of my favorites.
