Spot on. No one thinks they should replace a perfect diet. And the most negative response to multivitamins in this video was from the researcher who said “I’m a HUGE fan of multivitamins” but went on to say only when they’re necessary and that if you’re eating well then “you don’t need them.” So that means every researcher in this video has absolutely confirmed that they work. My own research so far has shown me that the only very dangerous ingredient in multivitamins is selenium which can be present in a third or up to a half of your recommended daily allowance. But everything else, if taken a bit too much of… like say up to double your daily limit, will pee out of you harmlessly if your body doesn’t need it. (Do your own research though, obviously) So if your diet ISN’T perfect like the vast majority of the western world then 1 multivitamin a day, so long as you don’t eat Brazil Nuts, is safe and a great idea. It’s not “works” or “doesn’t work” it’s “they definitely work but you have to be responsible, read the label and understand your diet” If your diet isn’t perfect? There’s a big chance you’ll feel better with a multi vitamin with breakfast for a few days. A big chance.

Vitamins are my insurance. I'll continue to take them. My grandmother took them religiously since I was a baby. She's in her 90s today still taking her vitamins everyday.
I appreciate this comment. Every time I get back on my vitamins, I feel much better. I have more energy, I'm more aware and the hangovers are less severe. =p....So we do benefit, I'm pretty sure it also depends on what we eat. For example, eating a crap load of ice cream for breakfast and nothing else and then taking a vitamin isn't healthy. =p

Yeah, I agree. It's not just about the prevent of cancer or disease is why some we take them. I take them because my energy feels low without them. I work out 4 - 5 days a week. I eat really healthy, and my energy was still low. The vitamins make sure we get vitamins from areas that weren't reach from our diet. It's really hard to reach all vitamin needs from diet alone. The age matters too. When I was a teen - 25ish, I didn't really need them. But now that I'm older, my energy level doesn't feel the same.
BINGO. My bloodwork constant deficiencies in iron, vitamin D, potassium, etc. But when I supplement with them, my blood work is suddenly perfect. Cracks me up when people try to tell me I "don't need" them or that they "don't work." 😂
They are missing the boat on vitamin supplements. I practice intermittent fasting and taking a daily multivitamin supplement is a way for me to achieve weight loss and still get the vitamins I need on a daily basis. The word here is SUPPLEMENT. So, depending on what your doing they can be a waste of money or they can be a necessity. I can only speak for myself but I do not eat a well balanced diet daily that will give me everything I need for my daily values. It says in the video studies have shown vitamins and supplements do not prevent cancer, heart disease or longevity. I don't take them for those reasons and I'm pretty sure there still is no cure for cancer last time I checked.
While I don't like to take pills and I would not take them everyday, what these rich doctors fail to understand is that everyone cannot afford healthy food everyday. So if taking a supplement occasionally can help why not, once it is a good quality.
I've been using Rune Organics' vitamins and minerals for a while now, and I love the results. My energy levels have skyrocketed. These products are a game changer and no gmo or other bs.
Someone who sells a certain vit product (apparently organic naturally based) that the body actually rejects most of these contents in the supplement tablets. The more artificial the more the stomach and absorbing functions reject. He didn't criticised Centrum as professional don't do. His argument of the bodies response to unnatural substance makes sense though!
Taking vitamins can help support your immune system and overall health, which may make you less susceptible to illness. However, it's important to note that vitamins alone can't prevent illness. A balanced diet, regular exercise, proper sleep, and good hygiene are also crucial for maintaining good health.
you are exactly right! While vitamins are essential, they shouldn't be the only thing we are doing to support our health. I am just learning now about microbiome and sleep- and am just blown away with how that greatly influences our immune support.
Right. Not just less expensive up front, but in time as well and effort if you have depression or some other medical issue. Lots of people live in food deserts on top of that. Multivitamins are a brilliant idea for those people as well.
Food first. Supplements second. As you elude to, one of the advanges of fruits and veggies are their phytonutrients, which most multi vitamins are lacking.
@televisionarchivestudios1130 yet, so many people FEEL the difference when they take specific supplements, also, most Americans are deficient in d3, omegas and K vitamins.
My grandfather turned 90 years old today and he never took any supplements or vitamins in his life. He also was fortunate enough to not have any serious infections to take any antibiotics or serious drugs either. He had a very balanced diet though.
I don’t think it’s gonna sway anyone. Ironically I asked my doctor about the supplements I take and multivitamins. He didn’t find it to be beneficial. He said most people are getting the vitamins from the foods they eat. But he also added it won’t hurt to take the vitamins, but has doubt as to its effectiveness. He then said the one vitamin that most people tend to be deficient or low in is Vitamin D. So he recommends that. This didn’t sway me from taking my daily vitamins that I’ve been doing for decades.
Just because he's a doctor doesn't mean he knows about nutrition, obviously we get vitamins from foods we eats, but we don't get all of the vitamins we need or the right amount of them. 90% of Americans don't get the daily recommended vitamins lol.
Yep, D3, omegas and K are common deficiencies in the US. Also depending on what you eat, you might not be getting enough nutrients. You have to be conscientious of your diet in order to be getting all you need. Also, the poor soil quality in the US = less nutrient dense foods than in other countries and that's not even touching all the filler and crap in the processed foods we eat. I've gone through periods of eating healthy and eating crap, and I feel the difference. I'll also take d3 and omegas no matter how well I'm eating, but I need a multi when I'm eating crap.
@@StallionFernando EXACTLY!! Doctors are NOT nutritionists and are not trained in nutrition. They shouldn't even be speaking on this topic! People trust doctors about things they shouldn't half the time.
Of course he says we don’t need to take supplemental nutrients. The system is designed to keep us sick so we will fund the multi billion dollar pharmaceutical industry. Oh and Vitamin D is Calciferol which when used in high doses is known as rat poison.
So it’s only a coincidence the doctors who sell supplements are all about them? And of course you’re not going to talk about how the FDA doesn’t even regulate supplements the way it did before the 90s, right? You wanna tell me all about how a pill will protect me from cancer then accuse doctors of con artistry? lol please
@@lv67890Ask a doctor if certain vitamin deficiencies are linked to insufficient vitamin levels. All will tell you yes as research dating back decades shows this. Now ask if blood draws, pre and post vitamin supplementation, have changed the levels of specific vitamins in the body. Again, they'll all say yes. So if a person lacks the correct amount of a vitamin then increasing it to the correct level will help prevent diseases. This isn't hard to understand. Many take vitamins they don't need or they take them wrong (fat soluble needs to be taken with food or it isn't absorbed). The world doesn't need anymore confidently stupid people, sit this one out.
What you really mean is you would rather see people spend their money on not food but pharmaceutical drugs. If that's what you really mean say it. Am I being too harsh to consider many doctors as professional, legalized drug pushers dispensing FDA approved drugs.
@@televisionarchivestudios1130 Same companies ?? Oh, really ?? Maybe in some instances this is the case. But overall, No. How else to explain the pharmacutical industry 's ongoing battle against the nutritional supplement industry that goes back decades requiring decades ago for Congress to intervene and establish in 1994 The Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act to allow free and unfettered access to dietary supplements. Oh, how soon we forget. Also a good topic to research : the pharmacutical industry's strangelhold over medical school education starting as far back as 1910 with the publication of the highly touted The Flexner Report. The Flexner Report's intention was to improve medical school education and one of it's effects was also to severely restrict and eliminate alternative treatment modalities and establish an allopathic health care industry under high profit (profits are allowed to be high due to the law, a patent system) pharmacutical industry model.
@@televisionarchivestudios1130 I am certain I'm correct about the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 being about having easy unfettered access to supplements . I don't recall misbranding being much of an issue in the Act that Congress passed. If it was an issue that was addressed it wasn't a major part of the Act. Also, most supplement brands are Not owned by pharmaceutical companies. Why belabor the point? There's no grounds for agreement. Also, there's a void in knowledge of the history of what has morphed into todays allopathic medical care establishment going back to the Flexner Report of 1910. The original goals of the Flexner Report are today the same as it was back then. To establish a medical care establishment that is most of all "expensive.". Why expensive ? Who would benefit from medical care being expensive ? Answer : the capitalist, free market profiteers (drug companies and medical device manufacturers) that corner the market on the products that they sell through legal monopoly practices codified by patent laws. This is the Peter Thiel path to wealth by forming a monopoly. Wealth creation via monopoly, Not free market competition. Or as Peter Thiel would put it, "competition is for loosers." Under this method wealth is created by the very few ( special interests.) at the expense of the masses that are meant to use the system. In this case, the health care system. Why is the health care system sooooo expensive..... Explained.
People don't take vitamins and minerals to prevent cancer and heart disease like stated in the study, they are taken to prevent deficiency's which could lead to adverse health effects like low bone density, low energy levels, joint health, etc.

When my levels were about 3 and my iron and anemic levels began to go up after that. Before that I was constipated and throwing up from iron supplement. So I believe in taking what you need.
It's not going to cure you of some complicated illness, or armor you against one in the future. But it's still good to take them, if you're not a huge health nerd who spend time analyzing everything they eat.
You know when you ask a "scientist" if Vaping is healthier than smoking cigarettes, and they say "Vaping has harmful chemicals." But they avoid admitting that yes, vaping IS *healthier* than smoking cigarettes. This is the same thing. When you ask if Vitamins supplements are beneficial, they say "It doesn't stop Cancer." But THAT wasn't the question. Truth is, Vitamin supplements are beneficial... no, they don't stop heart disease and cancer, and yes, if you eat perfectly you can get vitamins in other ways... but none of those were the question.
BINGO. Also irl doctors and healthcare providers make thier money off of "curing" people's illnesses, while online doctors and professionals who advocate for those supplements make money off of ensuring a healthy lifestyle for people and "preventing" illnesses before they occur. Therefore I am much inclined to listen to the latter over the former.
No they avoid saying it. Because it will give you a reason to continue the bad habit !!! Just as your in a RUclips comment section trying to prove to yourself !!
But I'll argue that they don't because it really isn't healthier but rather less harmful. There's nothing healthy about either so none can really be healthiER. It's like asking what's healthier to do once a week, heroine or cocaine?, like... none is!, but cocaine is probably the least worst option. See the difference?
Well they aren't a miracle drug , If you want more cardiovascular Health exercise, if you don't want Heart diseases dont eat unhealthy. Vitamins are to fill the gaps or spots your diet misses.
This is what ticked me off about what to do about Covid. Certain experts said this and others said that. So we are left confused and then if you did end up questioning you’re labeled as not taking Covid seriously enough.
That’s cause the “experts” all have an agenda… nobody pays anyone to be an expert opinion giver, they are all working for someone and their expert opinions will always benefit the that someone and themselves.
Hello, I understand your frustration for the lack of consensus within the scientific community on best health practices both in the Covid pandemic and with health recommendations like what vitamins to take. I wanted to bring to your attention a couple reasons why this is the case in hopes it will help you have a better understanding of where these recommendations come from. With something so important as the health of every individual and our community, the scientific community takes this responsibility incredibly seriously. Because of this, it can take a long time to come to a consensus about what is best. The human body is incredibly complicated, we are continuing to learn more about it each day that may contradict previously information. In the COVID pandemic, the desire was to get as much information as possible to the community. I suggest you think about it on the flipside, how angry would you be if the scientific community/government had some information that they were withholding from you because there was not enough research or information yet to make a consensus? Especially with research, it takes time to collect all the data, analyze it, synthesize the significance of it, and present it to the community. Our government was trying their best to share what information they had as quickly as possible. Regarding what vitamins to you should use, it is difficult to come up with a consensus because it is incredibly individualized. Different patient’s will require unique recommendations based on their diet, lifestyle, racial background, age, and health goals. The way research works is that they collected data on hundreds to thousands of individuals to make their recommendations. I would recommend you reach out to your primary care provider to discuss what vitamins would work best for you. Some vitamins may be unnecessary for you and a waste of money, while others can help decrease your cardiovascular mortality risk like a Niacin supplement.

Supplements and vitamins are no substitute for a healthy diet. Therefore, if your diet is poor with little nutrition, vitamins won’t compensate. If you’re eating healthy, then you don’t need vitamins. Besides, the human body does not absorb nutrients well from a processed pill.
@@meddo1679 No. Don’t buy into the advertising and hype of the 50 billion dollar industry. The biggest danger is over supplementation. Lot of people have liver disease now, not common knowledge. Instead of taking a vitamin C pill, eat an apple and so forth. Make sense?
No one said they are a substitute… it’s even in the name “vitamins & SUPPLEMENTS” They help supplement ones diet, fill in needed gaps or help with a temporary health issue
That's exactly what they are, though. They're a substitute for people who aren't getting all they need from their food. Why do people keep repeating this nonsense?
If you have osteoporosis or you are pregnant, speak to a doctor about this. If you are perfectly healthy and eat a healthy diet, synthetic supplements are not needed. Vitamins were never meant to prevent cancer or stroke. For that you need to stay healthy.
I conducted a meta-meta-analysis of many meta-analyses, each of which analyzed dozens of studies, and I concluded: all research is crap, in 1000 absolutely identical studies there will be 1000 absolutely different results. On any issue, including taking multivitamins, the conclusion from a meta-meta-analysis of all meta-analyses is always the same, REMEMBER THIS CONCLUSION: Maybe multivitamins are helpful. Perhaps they are harmful. Or perhaps they are neutral. Nobody knows jackshit lololol. And in this conclusion you can replace "multivitamins" with anything you want and you will be totally right
These people must think us regular people get all of our nutrients in the food we eat lol busy can't always cook so I take plenty of supplements and exercise and drink lots of water.
Also, take into consideration that doctors are not nutritionists and they are not trained in nutrition or preventative medicine at all, especially American doctors. Trust nutritionists regarding diet and supplements.
The graphic at 0:52 said that digestive diseases and certain medications can interfere with absorption of nutrients. This segment seems to assume most of its viewers are “healthy”, don’t take prescription medications and that a bottle of multivitamins cost more than an equivalent amount of fresh fruits and vegetables. GI diseases on the rise among Americans. Prescription medications known to interfere with drug absorption include oral contraceptives, acid reflux medicines and corticosteroids like prednisone. Those are all commonly prescribed meds, some are even used for months or years.

I just want to know why vitamin supplements are not very helpful. It sounds like they’re saying their daily recommended vitamin mineral amounts are what is actually not that helpful. Trying to hit those numbers purely off food for all of them everyday is virtually impossible or a full time job, one that you don’t only not get paid for but is incredibly expensive. They set us up for this by setting these incredibly hard to hit numbers suggesting it has to be everyday so of course people get anxious and try to play it safe
Unfortunately, a lot of the vitamins on the market are synthetic so it doesn't support our bodies the best. I was so grateful when I found natural effective vitamins.
So called "expert" she's tied to a trade group, keep that in mind. To save you 4 minutes, the ACTUAL doctor in this video summarized it best: if you're a healthy person there's no real reason to take them.
"You cant just eat hot Cheetos, take a vitamin and call it a day?" I mean yeah, technically that's the ideal situation for when a multivitamin comes in hand. But like the other doctor said, if you're actually eating a healthy diet, you really don't need a multivitamin. Plus many of our foods are fortified anyway. As a personal trainer, I'm very much anti supplement. But there are two supplements I do take. Creatine (2.5g per day) for muscle performance, and melatonin (0.7mg) every couple days for more consistent nights of sleep.

By the way, realistically speaking, a PhD (a third cycle graduate degree with a dissertation) is more of a "doctor" than an MD (an undergraduate 'qualification' or professional degree), so you avoiding to name Dr. Andrea Wong with her title while having just done so with the physician is ridiculous. Doctor means someone with a doctoral degree, you can argue whether US physicians are real or diluted doctorates (in britain they're literally bachelor's degrees lol) but a PhD is the real standard. Fun fact: in Germany physicians don't get the title doctor (they're just called what they are: physicians), because it's not a research doctorate. Don't diminish people's qualifications.
I take a multi along with whey protein and creatine, because I'm heavy lifting without roids. It helps with energy before the gym. Plus I've never come down with scurvy, beriberi, or pellagra, so hey, it's working. haha.

Does your body actually absorb anything though? Or does it all just go right through you? Im still quite skeptical. If you look into it there is zero hard evidence that they are good for you. Even omega 3 oil suppliments are suspect
Does your body absorb anything? If it didn't you'd be dead. Does the body absorb vitamins? Yes, they check people and if an essential vitamin is low they often recommend a vitamin supplement. Of course, they say vitamins don't do anything, just because they don't gain any $ Value
They want u to be sick
Vitamins and other supplements generate millions of dollars to those who produce them.
I'll keep taking them. Thanks.
My grandfather turned 90 years old today and he never took any supplements or vitamins in his life. He also was fortunate enough to not have any serious infections to take any antibiotics or serious drugs either. He had a very balanced diet though.
How much degree he have in studies?
@@fighterinmkiwiscience3517 Can you rephrase that question? I don't get it.
@@TheOriginalCameron i was asking how much his grandfather study
@@fighterinmkiwiscience3517 Oh, maybe I was confused because he didn't mention anything about his grandfather studying or being a student.
All the grandfathers and grandmothers had proper diet and they had close bond with relatives .. in today's world is different..
@@StallionFernando dude that just depends on your diet or lifestyle, speak for yourself
A doctor telling you that you don’t need vitamins is like a dentist giving you a life time gift card to the candy store
So it’s only a coincidence the doctors who sell supplements are all about them? And of course you’re not going to talk about how the FDA doesn’t even regulate supplements the way it did before the 90s, right? You wanna tell me all about how a pill will protect me from cancer then accuse doctors of con artistry? lol please

that’s actually a smart way to put it
@@lv67890Ask a doctor if certain vitamin deficiencies are linked to insufficient vitamin levels.

BINGO.
Doctors are not nutritionists and are not trained in nutrition. This information may help you understand who to trust for this sort of data.

Those are all commonly prescribed meds, some are even used for months or years.
the key is not to take medications if possible - avoid doctors - instead rely on fasting and meditation and healthy eating - organic food. Exercise but also tai chi qigong, yoga.

So long as you don’t take too much of something like selenium, which can be harmful, your body will evacuate what it doesn’t need SO they’re GREAT.
Just be responsible, read the label and do your best to understand what you’re putting in to your body and if you think your diet+your multivitamin is putting more of something in to you than is recommended then research the recommended amount and what dangers there are, if any, of exceeding those limits.

At least stop eating fake processed foods first. Personally I think 1 multivitamin from a generic brand is good enough. Don't blow your money on them.

Im not sure on all that stuff but I can tell you if you have high blood pressure garlic jell tablets will bring it down i didn't won't to take blood pressure meds and I was told about garlic jell tablets and now My blood pressure is fine my Dr didn't like it much
In my opinion a multi vitamin helps or at least I hope it helps fill in the holes in a healthy diet of real food.
