I've owned one of these (pre-hybrid model / colour: mineral grey) for 10 months and covering 7000 miles so far, please allow me to add to this great review a 'living with' update:
    Good:
-It will never, ever, fail to make you smile. Even if you've had the worst day work, a fiery drive home in this will be a complete mood booster and you'll wonder what you were annoyed about.
    - Due to the very low weight and high torque output, ignore the stats, in the real world on British roads it's really quite the little beast and will embarrass quite serious 'prestige' machinery even at motorway speeds. Honestly, once you've got used to the gearbox and the power delivery, a good double-clutch down from 60mph into 4th on to the boost you will be amazed. Which brings me onto:
    - I don't agree with all the reviewers who belittle the performance saying "you can play with the car safely within the speed limit" As per above, in the real world & flat out this car breaches most speed limits before you're even into 4th gear
    - It really does look superb. It passes the "parking up, walking away and looking back at it" test, if that makes sense? It's aesthetically pleasing.
    Bad:
-Infotainment system is a bit pony. It's slow, looks naff and is frustrating to use.
-The standard Continental Conti Sport 5 tyres aren't really a good match for it, they encourage the understeer, Michelin Pilot Sport 4's are far superior on this car, but they're not cheap.
-Personally, I don't like the driving position, you can't sit low enough in the car + it's just generally all wrong, plus the front passenger seat doesn't even height adjust so unless they recline like they're on a spa day they sit so high they may as well be the Pope.
    - The noise of the engine is a bit dull.
    - Not convinced on the build quality, but it's early days. The squeaks and rattles, whilst maybe small, after just 7000 miles is a bit concerning, and the tracking & alignment has been done already, although the UK road's ability to destroy cars never ceases to amaze me so that may not be the car's fault.
I've been picky about the bad points so as to not sound like too much of a fan-boy. But basically, I am. If you're thinking of getting one, do it! It's a rare breed of car now that is solely been designed to make you happy :-)

A great review as always Mr. Petrol Ped and as a result I bought a manual red one in April 2019, had it lowered 30mm immediately, put in a nice matching faux leather/red stitching console bin to spruce up the interior - love the car, difficult to fault it. We're still waiting for the Fiesta ST in Australia and it's going to cost at least A$7,000 more on the road than the Swift. I considered the I30N as well but they're far more expensive, mid to high A$40K here. In the real world (not the track), wouldn't miss the various settings (sport, track etc) and to even notice the lack of the LSD in the Swift Sport, you need to be cornering at race speeds that would endanger your licence anyway. I drive to work in Melbourne, a mixture of 5th/6th gear cruising and bumper to bumper crawling, getting 5.9 - 6.0 l/100km - fantastic economy. I also have a 500 BHP R32 Skyline GT-R as a collector so I can say hand on heart, this Swift Sport is very rapid, surprisingly so. It does run out of puff a bit at the very top end (tiny little turbo) but there's loads of torque down low and mid range whenever you need it in traffic. For the money it is, if you want a fun little car that does everything extremely well, I'd certainly recommend saving your hard earned and getting into one of these.

@@whatthe6532 Good old ebay back then, on checking it's not there now. In ebay now, search 'Universal Leather car center console armrests storage box', not red stitching but might work out for you. I also got a 'Handbrake Sleeve Brake Cover' back then, again not there now. It just slid over the handbrake lever, looks great still after 4 years. A decent upholsterer could make you one that shouldn't be that expensive. It certainly brings the interior up a bit. Cheers.

Another comment from me, this is the best Swift Sport review on here, thank you. Going to dealer today to enquire. I have a Celerio, its been a cheap reliable town car for last year and half, and even though you get some cabin noise in this Sport model, it will seem a lot quieter than the Celerio, so its a step up in many ways for me. So glad you got to get your hands on one of these after driving the previous boosterjet model. Sounds like a really great all rounder and I'm pleased they kept the same ethos as the old model in terms of spec. It's refreshing not to have a bewildering selection of options and kit levels. I think they've judged it perfectly as it currently fits in it's own niche. I'll be getting a test drive at my local dealer this month.

Test drove one the other day....it does have reach adjustment for the steering by the way, anyway I have to say that I previously test drove the new Fiesta St which was quick, rode and drove well etc but I did not gel with it, I did not like the artificial steering in sport mode, best mode for me was normal so the driving modes are pointless IMO, seats as mentioned in other reviews, although really nice are very tight around my bum and thighs so can see numb bum being an issue on a long run, also had understeer around a corner I know very well! odd. Anyway I really the enjoyed the Swift Sport, proper old school hot hatch feel, not as quick as an ST but properly quick in the lower gears, loads of grip, could not get it to break traction or understeer!, had a proper giggle in it which is the point isn't it?, walked away from the test drive and plan to order one, the ST was Meh so will save myself some money too. Great review by the way.

Thanks for clearing that up for me, I was going to ask you about if it had a digital speedometer.
My wife’s getting a 2022 version, of the same, and therefore I took one for a test drive, and whilst I prefer the analog speedo, in this case, I noticed that the 100kph mark (on the Swift) is about where the 40kph mark is on my Hilux, which is kind of off putting, as I kept needing that needle to move around nearer the top of the screen, where it belongs! The 2022 version, has that much needed feature (digital speedometer readout).
Another thing I’m not loving, is, the lack of an arm rest box between the seats.
One other thing, that was particularly annoying, and I’ve never seen anyone doing these reviews actually comment on, was the front facing camera/s on the windscreen behind, or in front of, the rear view mirror. Having never experiencing anything like this before, I couldn’t believe how distracting it was. In the short 10 km or so, trip that I drove it, I could not believe how many times it grabbed my attention, otherwise I was very impressed with it.
I particularly love the ‘lack of’ exhaust noise, I prefer silent but violent, doing ‘my’ 210 kph without attracting attention!
    Stay safe.

Great video! I like the cheeky styling and love the fact that they've made the car lighter - rare when car manufacturers do that nowadays. However even as a japanese myself, I don't think this would hold a candle to the upcoming Fiesta ST with its power and interior look, but I guess it depends if you prioritise handling over horsepower or vice-versa. But seeing how the Swift Sport is a few grand cheaper than the upcoming 2019 Fiesta ST in its base-spec 'ST1' package, maybe Suzuki were targetting a different 'audience'...

This car actually has 163 HP (120 KW). The 140 HP that Suzuki have stated is the 'at the wheels' power. The new car has 170 lb/ft of torque not 162 lb/ft (that's what this engine in the Vitara has). The previous car had 118 lb/ft of torque not 110 lb/ft. Also, the steering wheel does indeed have reach adjustment. Other than that, great review!

Tuners are getting to grips with these already and yes as stated they are finding that the new swift sport is in fact healthier than Suzuki suggest, a company called CTC performance has had their standard demo car at 152bhp/154ps . 182lb/246nm and a healthy 167.5bhp/170ps . 206lb/280nm with a remap also raise the rev limit as very easy to hit and a bit on the low side.....which in a sub ton car is ample I would say?. However people dreaming of remaping to 200bhp will be disappointed as apparently that would require a bigger turbo and exhaust/intake mods.

Most Japanese car manufacturers seem to still understate the hp and torque figures of their cars. I have no idea why they do this. I have an old non-sport suzuki swift which on the brochure only says 92hp. I tested it out on a dynamometer and the hp is actually higher.

In the UK the previous 1.6ltr model is rated at insurance group 20A, this 1.4ltr Boosterjet model which was only made for about a year is rated at group 35D. This is a crazy jump in insurance cost and has possibly stopped many younger drivers from buying one. This model was replaced with a hybrid model with a smaller turbo - slower acceleration than the two previous models it still has a top speed of 130 mph and is rated at a bit more reasonable group 28D.

The thing I like about this is NO SPORT MODE. Instead, you just get all the power, all the time. I cant be doing with a button that you press and it does things to the steering and throttle response. Nothing more than a gimmick, in the same way as keyless start. Why not just have a key in the ignition ? Is that too hard for todays snowflakes ? More secure with a proper key as well. Manufacturers are simply not learning about the theft risk of keyless cars yet. Anyway, superb car great value, and one last thing, good reviewer, told me a lot of good points about this car, especially about refinement on long journeys as this would have to be an all rounder for me. My only other choice is the S-Cross Allgrip version, but that will depend on my lifestyle when I come to change my car (have a Suzuki Celerio at the moment). This brand is going places, is more reliable and better value than all the overpriced German crap. Suzukis are also cheap enough to buy without getting a PCP deal, which are pointless unless you fancy renting a car for the rest of your life !

Of course they know about that. But as long as the customer base doesn't know it too, manufacturers can ignore the problem.

ikaruga xx Land Rover Discovery sport, a weird locking system, if you double lock the doors with the fob, you can still open the doors by hand if you have the key with you. Eh ? How can you be sure its locked when you walk away ? Dreadful brand.

You should take a look at the CTC Swift Sport based in Somerset. They're very tunable and often underrated from factory 200bhp+ 300Nm+ without touching any internals.
Also used market a 2018 Swift is an absolute bargain approaching £10k with with sub 15k miles on so sub £13k you could have over 220bhp per ton with tons of tech!

Just moved back to the UK a month ago and close to where l live there's a Suzuki dealership and this guy is on display there and I just fell in love with it. I am a massive Abarth fan but for a 500, I am too tall specially if it has the Sabelt seats but I would buy this car over an Abarth 500, 595 and 695 because of driving position, and space. I just think that the Swift could have come with a bit lower suspensio. 2cm less would make it absolutely fantastic.

Great vid. Drove an Up GTI the day after driving one of these and the Suzuki feels considerably quicker. The 3-cylinder in the Up is the more charismatic engine though but the sound is artificially piped into the cabin. Never been a fan of VAG products manual gearboxes either so would say that the swift has the sweeter shift, even though the throw is a little long.

Late arrival on this one Peter, slap my wrist. For that kind of money I don’t think there’s much to complain about. Nice selection of toys (even if some don’t do anything), that will appeal to young, first new car buyers. Wheel/tyre combination ? Nothing not to like there, looks? Average fayre for this part of the market, the lack of rear door handles is a nice touch (looks like a two door at a quick glance). The torque/bhp for a 1.4 engine is respectable. I don’t think the faux carbon fibre is that bad, twin tail pipes, what young driver wouldn’t want those on their “hot hatch” look alike ? I’m sure the range of body colours & additional decals could give it an extra sporty look, aka MINI. POV from behind the steering wheel on different roads is always a part of your reviews that I enjoy. The 0-60 was respectable & the 60-0 more than. It’s going to appeal to a limited group of buyers, I’m sure.
Not something I would be looking to purchase but then again if my circumstances changed I wouldn’t walk past & ignore it.

I keep thinking the red 'glow' around the thumbnail means I have watched the video. Because when a video has been played on RUclips it has a red bar at the bottom. I think that is what is making me think I have watched it and I am more likely to skip the thumbnail and not watch you video. Others may agree or disagree.

Sounds great in the cabin too. The UP! is surprisingly spacious in the rear and would sit two adults comfortably. Any chance you would be reviewing the UP! so as to do a comparison? Having driven the UP and a couple of new hot hatches, I think for a nice small city car to use daily, I would choose the UP over the Suzuki.

Mgoblagulkablong I've never owned a VW or driven one till I drove the Up!. My preference is simply based on my own experience of my test drive and this review. I've got 2 impractical toys so I'm not searching for more power but merely an interesting and enjoyable city/practical/new car that's easily affordable and the Up right now for me fits that purpose and will allow me to keep the 2 other toys. I'm really a Honda fanboy and even then, I would choose the Hyundai I30n over the Civic Type-R if I had to choose having driven both. The Hyundai offers better value for money and has more character in terms of driving pleasure in my opinion.

Monster Sport in Japan are offering an up grade on the new Swift Sport, 190PS with an up grade max of torque at 2000rpm where the std car is at 2600rpm. Now you can start to compare it to a Fiesta ST....
Monster Sport is the official tuner for Suzuki. There are also kits available from Trust and Cusco similar bhp.
