Bought one last year and agreed, it's incredible! I really believe this camera went under the raider though and in like 10+ years will have a cult following of people who adore an old full frame cinema beast.
Reddit brought me here. I was the guy that wants Built in NDS 😂 Another thing that makes me wanna buy this was the lens mount! I have the OG EF 2.5k and the MFT pocket 4k. The L mount just gives me even more options. Unfortunately, my pocket 4k has an HDMI issue. I got mine from the first shipment of cameras, cus I reserved it the second they announced it at NAB. It’s made me lots of money and paid itself off just from rentals. GREAT CAMERA. So I’m sniffing around for an upgrade. I’ve been very patient!
Welcome! The L mount is really the best decision Blackmagic has made. I love having the option to use all of my different L and even M mount lenses. Sounds like you deserve to make the jump 👀
I love 6K FF. ATM I own 3 cinema cameras and I’m going to have to sell at least one of them. C70 is the first contender. Better built, more featured body. Built in ND’s and functioning AF are great additions. The battery life is so much better also. Screen not so great. Image is different but just as filmic. It’s definitely softer and only 4K. You can get one nowadays for similar money to the 6K FF. Second one is Sigma FP. I believe it has the same sensor as 6K FF but it’s used slightly different. Somehow it’s much better in low light. Body is tiny in comparison. 1/3 of the weight. CinemaDNG instead of the braw, so massive files and limited fps. It’s not going to be a straight forward selection process. Great video btw.
That’s a tough call. The Sigma FP is another camera I’ve always had an affinity for and I’ve toyed around with the idea of buying on multiple times. Definitely have to let us know what you decide!
@ I was on the fence about Sigma FP for a while but found one in good enough price to dip my toes. So far I’m loving it. Could be a good B cam for a BM6K since it’s super compact and it’s using the same lens mount. It’s far from perfect in some respects but the shortcomings can be addressed. For example the screen is good but fixed. That can actually be modified for about 250$. AF is pretty much the same but on a plus side you can set the focus to linear and adjust the throw to what you like on compatible lenses. Image quality is superb in crop mode and very respectable in full frame. The colour reproduction is insane. This camera covers more than 100% of the rec2020 colourspace. One thing that held me back was reports of poor dynamic range. I can confirm that this was all down to user error. Sigma initially said that this camera has two native ISO at 100 and 3200. In 12 bit raw it’s actually working like Cine EI with 800 and 5000 having same amount of stops over and under middle gray. I think due to the great passive cooling the same sensor as BM6KFF actually seems to produce a lot less thermal noise. If you find one cheap give it a go. On the other hand C70 has better fps options than both cameras and the DGO boost to the dynamic range is pretty incredible. Decisions decisions.
The 6k pro is such a complete camera. I think the only reason to upgrade would be if you really want the ability to shoot in open gate and have a reason to switch into the L Mount ecosystem. For me it’s tempting since I shoot with Leica & Lumix as my main hybrids so BM going to L Mount was exciting
Love this video, but disagree about not needing a monitor. The focus peaking tools can be tricky to use when in open gate, its easy to miss focus due to the aspect ratio of the screen. In open gate the black on the side of the screen makes the image a lot smaller then say on the P4K or P6KG2/Pro. It definitely worth investing in a 7inch light weight monitor. Again, Love the video! ❤ On a side note, Blackmagic have been incredibly slow at updating the firmware for this model, the current beta firmware from last year can break the card reader. The Pyxis seems to be getting more features (more shooting resolutions and desqueeze options for anamorphics). Which I find a little disconcerting, feels like they are abandoning it some what.
Appreciate the insight! That’s a great point, coming from my pocket 6k I think having the articulating screen felt like such a huge upgrade to me that I felt freed from the need for a monitor for run and gun. Definitely could see why you’d still want It for certain situations though. Disappointing there hasn’t been more firmware love for this model, definitely seems like the Pyxis is their main focus right now. But I think this camera is going to go down as one of their most loved, so I hope It gets some more attention soon. Cheers
@@ZachChmael Don't get me wrong I got the 6K FF during the sale, got the battery grip as well. Its definitely my favorite BM camera (I own 5 different BM models). The L-mount is awesome for adapting all kinds of lens, been using old Canon FD lens which can be cheap and cover full frame. I much prefer grading the footage out of this, I find it easier to achieve a nicer looking result then say my P4K.
I never found this to be an issue. The screen resolution and the adjustability of the peeking is enough to have you covered. Not to mention the adjustable magnification that works even during filming.
@@LiveMyJourneyTom Depends what type of filming your doing I guess. Also the the peeking does vary great depending on the lens, lens aperture etc. I find it more inconsistent when compared to the P4K. If anyone is thinking of buying, please test it out first - when I compare the screen to any other camera screen sony FX3, canon, fuji... Those screen are horrible to pull manual focus on so small!
What iso are you shooting in? This camera has a dual native iso at 400 and 3200. So when shooting in low light go ahead and use 3200, you should notice the image cleans up a ton!
What's everyone's thoughts on the new BMCC FF?
Agreed! It’s their best camera.

Yes! It really has flown under the radar. Future cult classic for sure

My first BM camera. Was going to get the 4k and they ran the special so I grabbed the 6kFF. I love it.
Awesome first one to have, that special was a ridiculous value 😅
@@ZachChmaelI remembered the special they ran on the OG pocket and pulled the trigger
@@mrhb2e The OG pocket just oozes cool even to this day

What are your likes and dislikes?
For a brand new deal of 1500$ this was the best camera one could have purchased.
Absolute steal at that price. Wish I had snagged one then
why is it that i experience really bad banding in low light even with super low iso ?
