DC port is IN and OUT.
Top Panel is also made buy PixelCNC.
The ECLIPSE cannot be purchased at the moment. We have completed the builds for early adopters. Stay tuned for more info.
Although I oversimplified the images and build, there's not much remaining of the BMMCC inside.
The NEOGRAY film is actually another ECLIPSE being built. ALL electronics had to be re-worked to achieve these upgrades.

@@NarrowGaugeFilmsLLC One of the reasons we started this project was because they did not. We had a working prototype before Blackmagic announced the Pyxis. • @simon-altcinecam

We tried to make it as weather sealed as possible, all the buttons have rubber rings around them, the display is sealed to the top plate along with the pogo pins. This makes it do pretty well even in rain as the top won’t let water in. The problem is the sides, having two vents for intake and outlet does not allow weather sealing. The ports have the same rubber rings around them on the inside but you would still have to be careful with the vents. I say a light rain won’t hurt.

The Eclipse (although fully operational) is a test camera. We ripped the whole thing apart just to rebuild it, to gain knowledge for a proper CinePi camera.
Most people need to 'see' in order to visualise properly and the Arri will do that.
We get a lot of people trying to diminish what we're doing...even since the canon M-Lite so it's best just to show physical working products so people get the idea.

@@gwm-btdbattlesagar.ioandmo9988 you'd have to go back to some of my videos from a year ago but we already discussed this. In a nutshell...the internals are too big which would have made the camera the same size as Ursa and increase the cost by a lot.
This was a training project for us for CinePi, we don't really have a desire to make modified Blackmagics anymore.

    • @daylight5500
      @daylight5500 День назад

@@AltCine That is a leading question, depending on who is asking but since for you I killa de bull I will tell you. I would put them where I have access to them when the camera is on sticks and the lens is at standing eye height and taller. That would mean for them to be on the smart side of the camera. Now we know from experience that the buttons on the BMD micro and studio cameras are a pain because one cannot see them when one needs to operate them and they happen to be on the front, dumb side of the camera. Monitor and buttons are good on the top for hand held and sitting interviews but for anything where the lens is at eye height and above, it becomes an issue of needing to have a "man maker" or short ladder to see the menu screen and access to buttons. Be kind to vertically challenged camera operators.

love what you are doing, but also don't really get the point of doing this on a very old sensor. Dual gain technology was a thing when this camera was released, it's not something special nowadays. I used an OG on my last film, and the image quality man, is often disappointing (yes, I know how to expose this camera!). A lot of unwanted noise, grid pattern in low light, limited dynamic range (compared to the 4K at least one stop lower). The BMPCC 4K made a lot more sense to be modified, given more option (including a 2.6K mode with a 8ms rolling shutter and much much better lowlight performance). I think you are great and kind people, love what you are doing, don't want to sound too harsh but just pushing you investing energies into something more useful, given the amazing achievements you are reaching from a technical standpoint. Best wishes

Dual Gain technology is still special. There are only a few number of sensor having this technology implemented and most of them is in Arri cameras. The industry changed over to Dual Native ISO which is not an in sensor level technology so its easier for manifacturers to produce. I think the works of Neogray Films sums up pretty well the image quality of this camera and how capable it still is. I won’t comment much on dynamic range as both the OG and 4k in this case claims to have 13 stops. Both of them try to achieve this differently and this is where the speciality of this sensor shines. It has an organic image profile. Since the production of the Pocket 4k Blackmagic switched over to Sony sensors. The 4K for example has an IMX294, i don’t think that it has anything special compared to the Fairchild one other than more resolution. All this can come down to personal taste so the more accurate answer to your question is that we liked it this way.

@@simon-altcinecam I tend to disagree. Sensor technology has come long way forward. Every sensor technology has to be related to each sensor limitation. Dual gain technology made sense in early CMOS developments, not nowadays. Have a look at Canon C70 vs Canon C80 comparison. Canon C70 has a great dual gain technology (kind of) but Canon C80 has not, yet you get a better image out of the C80, cleaner shadows and same dynamic range. To be fair, Fairchild sensor were great, in particular the one on the BMCC 2.5K which has higher bitrate and can recover highlight fantastically, although rolling shutter was quite bad. But I find the Fairchild sensor on the BMPCC OG and the BMCC OG very disappointing. Yes they give an organic image, but nothing you can't reach nowadays with basically every camera on the market. Also, the sensor is only a part of the story. I think gyro data on the BMPCC 4K is quite revolutionary for handheld footage and other option you can activate in post, such as mitigate the rolling shutter (partially). There is this amazing story we tell us on Fairchild sensor which makes no sense nowadays. Even the CinePI smokes any Fairchild out of the water. But let me be clear: I appreciate your work.

@@MrDavidemarI get it, although I do love the organic look of Fairchild...I've also been impressed with even some modern 8 but cams in the right settings.
Regarding the ECLIPSE, we never made this to be a success. Think of this as test run in order to gain the knowledge we need to put into the CinePi.
We could have went directly to CinePi but we've torn down quite a few cameras to see what's possible.
The first one was the canon M-Lite which was a very basic rehousing. The Eclipse went far beyond that to a full electronic rebuild and the insights were fantastic.
Now we're putting the simplicity of the M-lite with he complexities of ECLIPSE in making a camera that hopefully most people can build, hardware upgrade and software tweak at home.
I actually like your question, thought provoking & well stated with good examples.

It was clearly stated in the first release video. Also we said it many times now and i will say it again, The Eclipse is not our main focus. Its never going to be, its a test run and learning process towards the CinePi which is going to be superior in almost every way possible. I don’t understand how its a “joke as product” when we did not state that its a product. Its a working camera, there has been amazing footage already made with it and probably will make a lot more amazing footage.

Nearly every company from Microsoft, Apple to Amazon was started in a very low key way and using business models from other companies.
Our end goal is to give people the opportunity to build a high resolution cinema camera at home that's self upgradeable hardware & software.
