Damn :D I just released my own video on the DJI Neo - and yeah - just like yours .... lets say its not going great for it :D I'm just a small german creator but I just thougt some one had to say something - imho the footage is just not usable for anything really - DJI wants us to believe they made the drone for everybody - however I'm feeling like they made a drone for nobody. Just to get it out of the way - its FPV mode is nice to have if you already own the googles and controller but this drone struggles to track you down when you move faster than 27 kmh - for an FPV drone this is a joke - and a very very bad one :D But getting closer to the target audience - when you are one to take beautiful pictures/videos with your drone - you need 1. a good image (which the NEO does simply not have) and 2. a controller - however the fly more combo of the NEO costs 350€ which is 50€ more than the DJI Mini 4K with a controller and FAR BETTER picture quality. But what if you want cool pictures of yourself doing sports? Well if you want to use these pictures anywhere outside of social media the image quality is just too bad. So if you want to get actually usable footage you would settle for a Hover Air or even the older Skydio drones. So all in all the NEO is a 200€ drone you will buy for social media - probably use once or twice - post a short clip with rather questionable quality on instagram and than lock away in your room collecting dust. Honestly - from a technical standpoint its quite impressive - but NO ONE actually needs this as there is nothing of value to do with it - "normal" people don't need to have a drone that follows them everywhere taking rather bad looking video for posting on social media all the time - and if you are even slightly more "pro" than posting on Instagram the image quality just doesn't cut it. Thanks for coming to my TED-Talk (honestly just half my german video rephrased quickly :D ) and thanks for pointing this out! It's so sad to see all the big youtubers praising it as the drone for "everyone" - no - its actually a drone for no one and rather than spending 200€ and lots and lots of precious resources on this we should start thinking twice whether we actually NEED something instead of always falling for the hype - especially in the tech-space. EDIT: I also kinda highly doubt that all the "skate-parcours-FPV" shots in the Trailer which are "shot on NEO" actually are shot on NEO - they just look so much better than everything else we have yet seen of this drone ^^
@@PixelSheep I had to pin this comment as you said it much better than I did and I agree with every word. I'm going to watch your video now and I'll use captions. Thank you for a really insightful comment and I'm sure it will help others decide.
I'm not a content creator and I think your opinions are more appropriate for the same audience. I just want a drone that does all those things for memories and for posting on social media. Neo does everything Hoverair does for half the price. It's a no-brainer.
My thoughts exactly, I would want one for hassle free videos/photos when on holiday that you can't get with a phone. If you want perfect picture quality for vlogging and such go and spend £1000. This is for fun and interesting videos/photos for the average person.
Finally.. somebody who understands what to expect with the drone that you pay for.haha! Very well said man.. Honestly i have encountered a lot of reviews that expect a lot more than what it is rated for! READ THE MANUAL. this is what I always say with the disappointed commenters/reviewers I encounter here in youtube😅
Well I agree that the Hover X1 should come down in price. But I haven't been impressed at all with ANY of the footage coming from the NEO even compared to the 2k30 of the X1. However, the Hover Air Pro is just released and is drastically better than the X1 in every way for only $26 more as of this post and definitely worth double the price of the NEO, especially after seeing all of the fails in so many videos with the NEO. NEO is a beginner drone to get you in the hobby. In the end, you are truly getting what you pay for. If you want to go cheap, expect cheap results, especially in electronics. I personally would pay double the price to get a far better quality experience...IMO
@@YICHAOHAN as Scott said, if you really want good content for your socials then it's definitely worth it. The neo could be a third of the price but your footage will still look bad so there's really no point. Also, the X1 was the first as quick shots drone and from a much smaller company so we must expect a slightly inflated price...now they're getting better with the pro & pro max. There really was no point in DJI releasing this drone and crippling it unless you buy the expensive accessories.
Here in the U,S I got my Hover Air for $349 with 2batteries and charger . .I bought mine before Christmas at hover air web site based here in the U,S. If you plan to buy Hover Air shop at their own web site do not shop on Amazon prices will NOT be lower than $400 dollars.
@@Area51-is6vg that's good to know, thank you. I'm tempted to get the X1 pro on Kickstarter but I'm just going to wait for more reviews and then I'll do what you've suggested.
@@tcgreen11 you can change it in the goggles or the controller with the flymore combo. i will admit it needs to be an option in the mobile app without the controller but its only been out a few days. give it a week or 2 and im sure they will fix this issue
It's a tiny whoop. A 200 dollar 4k 04 transmission system when used with a controller. Can fly with voice commands, an rc controller, the fpv controller 3, the motion controller 3, and it can connect to the goggles 3. A full-blown manual mode fpv tiny whoop or a super beginner voice command selfie drone. It's not for creators like the mavic and avata drones are.
All I wanted was what they were selling a small, affordable quick shots drone. They have all that other stuff on the market...is it too much to ask a company like DJI for a decent camera in 2024...it seems so.
Yep this will be my entry level fav before I get my avata2. I love my platinum, air2, air3.. this will still get use because can stick in my pocket and quick get a shot anywhere. Can’t do that with my other drones.
@@AltCine The camera is not the problem. The problem is the lack of processing power because of how many other functions the drone also has. The 4K is just upscaled with an algo. it only does one resolution 1440x1080, everything else is scaled from there.
This is my scenario. I had a Mavic Air 1 for 2 years and loved it. It was stolen in a B and E and I've been wanting a replacement for years. But haven't quite been able to afford it when each new model releases and buying an older model is hard for me because of FOMO on new features. So I'm not a beginner pilot but I can't afford any other drone combo living pay to pay. I mainly use my footage for family holiday videos combined with phone and a gopro 9. I bought just the Neo drone by itself for 350 here in Aus with 2 years care refresh. I can bring it along on holiday and get great footage to complement my holiday vids. All the footage I'm seeing is fine for me. Sounds like an easy software update to be able to change sharpness etc especially if you can already do it in fpv. But that stuff is only things I notice. When my fam and friends are watching my videos they don't even notice any of that. So.. For me. 300 for what this drone can do is amazing and I've already seen some hacks to get better footage. I get to enjoy DJI drones again as a struggling consumer.
I love DJI drones and bought the Neo because I already have the Avata 2 to hone my skills, but DON'T try and practice with the DJI Neo in your home using the goggles and motion controller, as soon as it gets slightly close to a low light situation It will power forward at full speed (even if set to the lowest possible speed) and smash into the nearest wall......trust me, I've found out the hard way........three times!!!.......Fair play though, there isn't even a scratch on it.
I did the same as I have the Avata2. I only have flown with the MC3 and bought the FPV3. Until now only in sim in Manual mode and bought the Neo to use Manual with the FPV3 before starting to fly Manual with the Avata2.
Same here, I brought the Neo to use indoors and it just crashes in low light because of the poor sensors, the Avata 2 works indoors as the sensors are better. The neo dosnt work anywhere there's low light and no gps, and the Neo GPS reception is poor. I could live with the image quality but not being able to use it in low light makes me want to return it.
Thanks for your critical test of the DJI Neo. I also have the Hoverair X1 and enjoy the compact size by its foldable design and its simplicity. I will certainly use it in future when small size is an issue. Nevertheless the manufacturer ZeroZero provided a lot of updates to achieve the actual quality. I would give DJI an appropriate time for bugfix. I am certain the Neo will be improved according to user feedback.
My reason for canceling a buy for the DJI Neo is that it has geofencing that will not allow takeoff if you are near an airport. Even if you just take off from your hand with no controller.
@@AltCine They did release it in a hurry to have it out before Hover X1 Pro (Max) for sure, as they clearly made this drone to compete with Zero Zero Robotics.
Not surprised one bit. As a dji owner and Hover owner, I fall back to the Hover every time for filming mountain biking. I love the dji mini 4 pro the most but its overhead it too much. X1 Pro Max, i hope will fullfill any and all short comings. Well soon it drops at amazon, I'll be the final judge between Neo and X1 Pro. Yeap, i'll be bying both any.
hover seems over saturated and shaky will stick with DJI for the long haul too many creators overly nit pick new products for views luv the neo for what it is
Respect your review, footage on both looked ok for this level of drones but I agree looks like the neo needs some post editing. Don’t forget neo is half the price and as we know DJI will send out updates to improve the neo
Finally an honest reviewer who is not out there to just kiss DJI's ass. Every single day one reviewer is praising it having by 4k30 vs X1's 2.7k but the footage literally looks like upscaled 720p from an entry level 2020 smartphone camera
Hi, good review very interesting, people say dji will fix the issue with software updates, but that not really a good enough excuse ,dji has been building high end drone for some time, its more likely they want to keep it at a certain level,so they can bring out the next version in the future.if they make it to good, why would you upgrade? They been doing this from day one.
That's very true. I think this should have had the 2.7k sensor from Mavic mini but then everyone would complain. It seems people will accept bad 4k over good 2.7k
That is true but I'm not holding on to this drone to wait for them to sort things out. This is a multi billion dollar company with a deep background in drones.
@@Rmstrjim thank you for that but it would be nice just to have it simple like hoverair. Talking to the drone, BT headsets etc it's starts to get a bit like a gimmick.
Thanks, at last, an honest comparison video about these two drones. I also have the hoverair and couldn't understand how DJI could produce an equivalent model so cheaply. Thanks to you I'll be keeping my X1 which I think also looks a lot cooler so thanks again. 😊👍
Respect brother. I use my hover air for Instagram & Facebook and the 2.7k is perfect. I was hoping to get more mileage from the neo for RUclips but absolutely no way. If I have to buy the controller to unlock picture settings then I'll just upgrade to to X1 pro
So glad I saw your review I've been on the fence between the neo and x1, the problem is that everyone who does comparisons does not do a like for like as the major deciding factor is based on price, I get that the x1 needs to come down but ill be buying mine from cex with 5 years warranty for 160gbp, the folding form is a massive plus for me as I can put it in my pocket and take it green laning on the motorbike and use it at low speeds I've also noticed from footage on yt the tracking on the x1 seems way smoother and keeps the subject a lot more central
@@CB-dy2pc hi CB yes you're correct, people see the price and automatically think it's a better deal. I do understand that not everyone can spend more money but I'd rather not bother if that's the case. I took the original hover with me on a few trips abroad and the tracking was excellent...in and outside. The footage is good enough for social media but the neo is a fail by DJI. If they decide to continue down this path then I think by version 2 or 3 they'll be good. Yeah, but it used and saved some money 🙌🏾
@@AltCine I ended up buying from cex online got the drone 2 battery's and the charging dock for 210 quid with their 5 year warranty in comparison they had the dji neo up for 135 quid but just know id end up regretting it for the sake of spending a bit more I'm only using it for tiktok so it should compliment my 360 and dji action 4, thanks for the video and being honest it helped in my decision ill give you a sub.
99% of people are not content creators. I’d say that the Neo is aimed at those 99%. I love the Neo, it makes a perfect con-anion to my existing Avatar 2 gear.
@@BruceLeroyUK it’s a brilliant toy, definitely worth the price for filling yourself on epic adventures. I’d be disappointed if I bought it as a professional tool but because I bought it to use as a self filming drone on my fpv and outdoor adventures
@@stef2282 no probs. I'm hoping DJI sort it out and unlock picture settings without controller but the truth is....you bought a great drone that'll be relevant for a very long time. Sometimes the extra cost is worth it.
Could this quality video issue improve with a software update? Is it the compression format it uses? Ive that reducing sharpness it improves the quality, have you tried this?
@@HillPhantom hey brother, I'm sure I replied but no probs. If you type on eBay, Amazon or AliExpress 'TACTICAL CHEST POUCH' You'll see loads of designs and they're really affordable. The one I'm wearing is customised with our Logo but you'll find it very easy. 🙌🏾
Great video. I'd rather have an honest review even if it's a harsh one. I'm sure eventually they will do an update on the app that allows you to adjust more settings, but they should have done that to begin with in my opinion.
@@Darknynja2 thank you, I too would prefer reviews that are unbiased. No product is perfect and something's cons aren't worth mentioning but in the case of the NEO it definitely needed mentioning.
To be honest, I don't think the difference is too bad. In fact, during the recordings in the underground parking lot you can clearly see that the Hover Air's sensor has difficulty with the underlighting. Also at the beginning of the bicycle recording you can see that the DJI shows more details in the leaves of the trees and in the corners of the road surface. The difference between the Mini and the Neo is indeed not big.
Finally someone saying what the truth is with this. I bought one, it arrived yesterday and it's going back today. Footage is so poor that there is no way we'd want to inflict it on or YT viewers, especially with so many of them now watching our videos on a TV. Tracking is okay, but Direction Track is useless and this is what we really wanted it for - walk and talk type vlogs, and after 3 or 4 seconds if just flies round the back and starts following not staying in front. I'm waiting for the HoverAir X1 Pro (or Max) now, as the demo footage from that online looked VERY impressive.
Thank you for this comment bro and glad you tried it. A lot of people missed my point with the comparison to X1 but I said the X1 pro could be great for the extra money. The X1 has actually been very reliable and uploading to Instagram looks good. I hope they sort the neo but I'm with you on purchasing the X1 pro. The max is overkill for me though 😅
The bike is actually a movie prop it's a custom built Raleigh. Laugh if you want but it looks amazing in proper productions. I don't know why I even bothered to reply!
Good review I was thinking of the hoverair z1 but have now seen the X1 pro . I am not a pro just a now and then user so do you think the normal X1 is still a good buy ?
@@sylvesterwatson314 thank you. Now that they're bringing out the 4k I'd say hold tight for a used X1 if it's about budget. And I think the original X1 is perfect for reels or normal Instagram posts. On RUclips you need absolutely perfect conditions for reasonable footage. Lastly, the X1 pro isn't much difference in price from the original X1 on Indiegogo so may as well just get the pro. More money but better long term investment.
Pro settings should be possible out of the box via the app. I had the DJi Phantom 2, the Mini 2 and the Neo would be perfect for what i need. Fast, cool family, travel videos. But the video quality seems real bad in auto mode.
On the positive side, on the low light footage that you recorded in the lot, the NEO looks much better. Higher shutter speed and sharper (due to ISO performance, not sharpen filter :D) That makes me think that the actual camera is good, they just need to fine tune the image processing 👌
@@DESTINYFPV Thank you, these are really handy for run/gun. They're called Tactical chest pouch. I have a few from random places but this one was from eBay and customised with my distressed logo.
Yeah it looks too much like phone footage to me. I love my DJI Mini 3 Pro because I can lower sharpness, contrast, shoot in D Cinelike, and 10-bit colour. I need those as a baseline.
Thank you for saying this, every review I’ve seen they’re too afraid to talk about the elephant in the room, that the image is awful. I’d rather put my phone on a stick than deal with that terrible footage.
Great video! Thx However, I saw ppl downscale the sharpness to -2. It helps a lot. Totally great pic quality for the size -and price. U need the RC to do that tho. Plus, manual setting the WB n the whole 9 yards transforms the image quality to something usable.. Sure, it kinda beats the "beginner-friendliness" of it. But w that and multi ways of flying it, i look at it that it gives a room for growth that won't bore users within 1 month or so 😂. Ppl can grow w it then later upgrade to their pro systems. It's juz an innovative drone that they ll continue/expand to develop over time. Eg the on-board audio recording w no prop sound, editable in post. For $200!? Cmon that's just unheard of. Even their top of the line ones dun hv it 😂 One thing i hv always liked abt DJI is their fw updates over the yrs. N they tend to listen to us users. It's a big company too (1.5k R&D staff at $10bil valuation). They can do anything w that. Hopefully they'll be ard for long 😅 Juz my 2 cents 🙏
@@talktalk4503 I totally understand that and I agree with you. That really was the whole point of this video and I'm glad we're on the same page. It was just a shock to see the poor video and that you need a controller to do anything about it. Hopefully they'll sort this out and really shake up the market.
I just bought mine of Amazon with the controller bundle and a set of ND filters. Gonna do some tests with the manual settings, hopefully some decent footage can be obtained or I might also reconsider and getting something else.
@@eddaardwolf I would be interested to hear how you get on. If they improve the stuff I said in this video I will 100% buy it again. Just wish it was good now ready for travels.
This footage is almost like the DJI Osmo 3, which I love, but the video is way too over-sharpened, and you really have to work hard to make it usable. I honestly don't understand why these companies with awesome products ruin them by sharpening the footage to hell and back. Great vid, mate, keep it up!
It's baffling bro, this product is so close to being an ultimate quick fly drone but they butchered the software. I really hope all of this can be fixed with firmware and that we aren't forced to buy a controller.
@@AltCine I honestly don't understand what's wrong with adding a log to the quick option. Surely they already have this capability, just map it to the button! They can even leave the dumb over sharpened mode, just let us use it properly as well!
I agree 100% with this review. I have both drones and I also did a bike test yesterday. Actually, MTB ride test in the forest. Neo kept losing me while the X1 kept on tracking. Footage: I still need to upload the footage. But, going by your video, X1 seems more detailed whereas, Neo is washed out
Yeah it's a shame, I thought DJI would have mastered tracking by now...even in such a cheap offering. I hope you have a better time with the footage than I did. The hover air still lacks detail at 2.7k but it's just more pleasant to look at, especially on a small screen. The neo just looks far to digitised and overexposed.
@@AltCine looking at the design, I’m betting to save battery and unwanted heat they throttled it right back, (and make you buy more expensive drones in their line up now they’ve hooked you). it simply doesn’t have the ducting to remove the excess heat from the processor to process 4K like the mini 4 does…🤔
Thanks for the candid review. I'm keeping my Hover Air X1 and passing on this first iteration of the NEO, even though I expect DJI to push out firmware and SW updates regularly. I agree with you that DJI missed the mark on a more full-featured autonomous "social media" drone. I really like being able to change settings on the Hover Air X1 without using an app. I've done the Indiegogo thing for the Hover Air X1 Pro Max and am really hoping that lives up to the hype. The feature upgrades of the X1 Pro Max that are most useful to me are the improved capability to fly out over uneven train, fly over water, and 4K 60. If it delivers on that then the NEO 2 would have to minimally match those specs for me to consider. Like you, I have a lot of DJI drones and love them but I'm going to pass on this first iteration of the NEO.
@@AZGeek520 hey bro, I think a lot of people underestimate how useful it is to have FULL control without a phone. It sounds like we're very similar...we don't want much but just the simple things to be done well. I will most likely get the hoverair pro but if DJI rush out some updates then I'll definitely purchase the neo again, the price is very attractive.
As my first drone I was sure to get neo but when I saw footage on my 4k tv it looked more like 720p to full hd. It would have been nice if dji said it was full HD drone. I think neo would be decent enough in cine mode only. Other mode I see lots of pixels. Still for the price looks ok for beginner drone, solo traveller. Was about to get insta 360 x4 but now looks like I would get dji neo. Any other suggestions. I would be buying drone in Thailand. Not sure this hover is available there. Or get mini 3 non pro
Yeah it's not good man and I'm glad others see it too. The mini 3 pro and no pro are fantastic and I highly recommend. I was also very shocked by the footage from the Potensic Atom 4k. I've never used it but man it looks impressive at such a low cost.
Considering the camera specs they definitely can fix it with software and make it a good image. Still... I think that zero zero robotics is crushing it in this autonomous following drones.
Good review but dont forget do not fly two drones too close to eachother. They create their own air turbilance and the other is affected from that turbulance. That is why every airplane should wait for a while after the previous flight.
@@alfredlow6720 the pitch is different but I haven't really done any tests. I'd say the neo sounds a little louder. I can't test as I've already sent it back.
Price point of Neo is attractive, image quality is not going to be as good as Mini, but the O4 transmission is surprisingly there, I wished Neo has better image quality with the sacrifice of O4
definitely agreed to your thoughts on this so called inexpensive drone that will dethrone the x1, but right after i saw potatjet footage taken by neo, im sorry, the x1 wins by a mile in terms of quality. neo also is also needs a lot of light, so filming indoors will surprise a lot of people when their drone will just land on its own and wont fly.
This is the first and only? review with critics on the Neo. Well done and thanks for that. Ow one thing though....I can't remember I gave permission to show my 120 million penthouse 😎
when it comes to choosing a camera equipment, we are playing with several variables - use cases, image quality, cost, ease of use, etc. Neo and X1 are not at a similar price point and therefore it makes perfect sense for them to not perform at the same level (or Hover can pretty much shut down the company tomorrow:) the old larger drone is not pocket sized, and is not nearly as easy to use as Neo. the fact that Neo can fly without a controller and with many controller options, including voice commands, puts itself at a unique position in today's market, esp. at such a sweet price. I think it's a decent product for what is designed to be, although it does not fit your needs. also I am sure DJI will improve it in the subsequent firmware releases.
That's the thing...it does fit my needs, it's exactly what I wanted. Some people see quick shots as a gimmick but for me it's super handy. I travel a lot and always need friends to shoot b-roll. If it costs some more to have a good functioning product...it's worth it. You go to beautiful country or event and your footage looks terrible, it completely defeats the purpose.
I got the neo yesterday and its my very first drone, im loving it so far and dont find the imaging too bad at all, however im not a creator like yourself and you have probably seen images i dont even know exist lol
@@danielryan4352 awesome man and welcome to the world of drones. Hopefully they can improve it so it's a good basic drone for all of needs. Most importantly... have fun with it 🙌🏾
@@mehmetmehmet-s2h That information is freely available on the internet. The fact is...they were a new company doing something different and different costs money. DJI have practically unlimited resources and could have used the same sensor as the Mavic mini 2.7k and had a smash hit with the neo. Don't shoot the messenger.
@@ScarboroughTourist They locked that off in most modes unless you have the the manual controller but I'm not sure if that will work without the V3 goggles. I have no understanding of why they did this unless they want to push you into buying more gear with the neo.
I appreciate your concerns. I currently have a mini 3 pro and thought I would still try this at family gatherings. It also looks like a toy to most and if challenged I'll represent it as such !! I have purchased it with the controller so I can change the sharpness setting. My family generally view footage on smartphones; so this is one more tool in the arsenal around kids.
I also have both and to be honest I found the video quality better on the Neo than the X1: the X1 crushes the dark area. To me the biggest issue of the Neo is related to the tracking: it's like he's lagging and take his time to react and suddenly do a fast movement to compensate. That's why there's a lot of back and forth (or left and right) movement. This can lead to bumping into wall or trees like we see in your video.
That's interesting. We must remember the hover air is a lower quality camera but imo it easily stands up to the neo. I also agree about the tracking, it's ok sometimes but mostly all over the place....you need extremely good conditions.
I can be wrong, but first sight and feeling I get from drones like these is that they are very gimmicky and cheap? Generally if I would buy this kind of drone, I would demand 200% full hands of experience about tracking and following controls and what kind of tracking options there are before buying.
@@dreamsandrealms4581 you're right, they are extremely cheaply made, just holding it you can tell. Tbh, I don't actually mind the cheapness of them, as long as do the basic functions well. We'll only use this for a year or 2 so not to bad if it breaks but DJI are quite reliable but that video just killed it.
yeah sure the video quality & simplistic on hoverAir x1 is good but you need to look overall features on drone... for example DJI Neo can use controller, dji goggles, dji fpv controller which is a lot of options. just who buy a drone just to do autonomously when you can fly your drone autonomously & control it. Also when you look the price I think people also want to buy DJI Neo rather HoverAir x1. DJI Neo combo almost have a same price as HoverAir X1 standard set so I think it's obvious choice because in my country DJI Neo sold out in a day
I saw the adverts about this being a quick shot drone and I did explain in this video why I like them, it saves me having to bring a friend to shoot b-roll for socials and also good when I'm traveling. The drone will sell because it's DJI...not because it's good. Give it a few months and if this drone is updated to what they advertised you will see many of them sold for £100 on eBay. Saying that, if they sort it out..I'll definitely buy it again.
I was and still am a huge DJI fan when it comes to drones, what they deliver is awesome BUT the Neo definitely needs more work. The problem is that the quality is not what you would expect from DJI and its not what was promised. Yeah its a new product with new firmware but lets be honest, out of the box its not impressive at all. With a bit more money people can go with any of the Mavics and get waay better quality in every single aspect. A lot of comments here saying just lower the sharpness while the sharpness is not the only problem that the footage has and even if it would be, are we going to go and find solutions for something to be what it would needed to be by default just because its cheap? Sure if anyone is into it go ahead but the market has so many options now to choose from (even from DJI themselfs) that it feels like a better way to go with. Also let the Man have his OWN opinion, its fine if yours is not the same.
Thank you my brother, very insightful comment and I know you understand tech better than most people. I understand most people are just consumers but they could have done better....much better.
I have the mini 2 se 2.7 the image quality is way better I was shocked that the neo looks so bad on 4k I think it's not even a 4k to be honest, very honest and real video thanks bro I'm holding out on buying it.
@@moonsdonut5188 yeah bro, me and Jk flash had to dig out the old footage just to make sure we weren't seeing things. If they put the old 2.7k sensor in the neo it would have been perfect.
To be fair to DJI, initial video quality on Hover Air was even worse, sharpness was even harsher and there was no option to fix it in settings, at least on the reviews I've seen. And I'm very happy that they fixed that later. On the other hand, Hover Air was the first consumer product for the company, if I am not mistaken, and DJI has not only all the technical experience both in drone and camera production, but also years of working with consumer feedback under their belt, so it is weird to me that they're releasing this thing in the state it is. Ok, one cannot put a better camera in the drone if they need to hit the exact price mark, fair enough. But to have the manual controls from the get-go when you have already done all the R&D should be a no-brainer, and yet
BTW, anybody here knows why the default setting for all gimbal-style and action camera-style camera is oversharpening? There must be at least some marketing reason for that, but I can't see one. Even things like face smoothing filters on some phones makes much more sense, even if I don't like the thing.
Hover air was NOT the first product for the company. They were the first 5 years ago or more with Hover Camera, that FOLLOWED YOU….Then they had Hover2 and invented all the quick shot modes DJI copied. I could fly it with palm pilot and without a phone and it had 360 obstacle avoidance with its radar. They were and still are the innovators and are not the new kid on the block. DJI had its thunder stolen when X1 3rd generation was launched, and now Zer are on 4th generation, whilst DJI struggle to stay in business as more and more countries ban drones. Zero products are not drones IMHO and set the precedent of a flying camera and now personal photographer and video cameraman for free, saving money of a real one. The results are worth every penny, and DJI is on their first generation that looks like a MANKIND cheap toy drone that you can get for £20. Neos biggest flaw is its design , size, rgickness an non fold ability and too bulky to hide in my pocket on a discrete donning or incognito mission, wher you need a quick shot before you are pounced o for using a drone which Neo users will be LOL
@@AltCine Thanks I have all the Zero Robotics Hover Cameras, and the X1 Pro max skiing kit on order. I got rid of my Mavic's and had most of them . My grandkids all want one LOL they think what they do is fantastic. I may get a Neo 2 when improved and a s/h LCD controller for GPS long range use if needed, but TBH my Zero Robotics models meet my needs, and glad to get rid of foldable winged drones as dangerous with safety a major criticism of them compared to Zero Robotics designs. ALL DRONES should have enclosed props IMHO.
The Neo costs $200, and the Hover X1 costs $400... what exactly do you expect when you compare two products with one costing twice as much? The controller isn't "expensive", it's around $130- big deal. I agree the image quality is lower than what I would like, but I'm not stupid enough to think I'd get professional quality footage from a $200 flying camera. Not to mention, DJI will continue to drop firmware updates to make improvements. The Hover X1 can fly alone or with your phone. The DJI Neo can fly alone, with your phone using virtual sticks or voice control, that you can use to adjust the drone's position, btw. The RC-N3 controller, the RC2 controller, the Goggles 3 with the Motion Controller or FPV RC3 controller. It's also possible they may be able to open up compatibility with the O3+ controllers and goggles as well. Both drones let you pick up audio from your phone, but the Neo also allows you to use the DJI Mic 2. I don't have much use for either of these drones, but based on versatility, I'd probably go for the Neo.
I expect to be delivered what is shown or promised. The comparison with x1 is just to hammer home the difference but his initial point is what's promised vs what's delivered.
Why do you say professional....my history in tech is very deep and I know what to expect! You completely missed my point like a lot of others. I clearly explained that I needed a basic camera for quick shots but by the time you upload them to Instagram the hover air looks great and the neo looks bad.
@@MR-ov6iv What hasn't been "delivered"? It does everything they claim it will. I don't remember the marketing materials claiming it had "better" image quality than a Mini 4k... Or a Mini 2... Or even a Hover X1. I'm not sure that you understand what 4k means if you don't think it has it. The problem for me is the low bit rate, lack of adjustments, aperture and the sensor size. Honestly, I don't remember the marketing materials claiming this drone was "better" than any other drone at anything. If the $400 Hover X1 is better than the $200 DJI Neo at some things or everything, okay... So? Exactly who promised you something that hasn't been delivered? Was it DJI or was it some RUclips knucklehead? My guess is that a lot of you seem to think that companies can pull some kind of miracle and deliver $500 worth of tech for $200. Not gonna happen.
@@AltCine Wait... Did you say you knew what to expect? Did you expect the same camera quality from a $200 drone, that you get from a $400 drone? Maybe there's a misunderstanding here... I thought you were complaining that the Neo isn't as good as the X1... Is that not the case?
IMO, you are a bit too harsh with your review. The neo just got release with brand new firmware and X1 has been out there for a while. It would be interesting if you can compare both Neo and X1 at their earliest firmware. The price is 2x difference too.
Several DJI influencers are all saying the same thing about the video quality. The price is nice, but DJI spoiled us with their remarkable drones to accept this.
It's only about the setting yuo can adjust sharpness according to your liking, with this price and the drone capable to do full FPV and acro, i don;t think other brand can beat it. Neo could kill other 2" cinewhoops or force other brand to make better similar size to be better than Neo
You can't change settings in quick shots etc you need to have manual controller etc. It still needs more work on tracking software to keep up with the hover air. The drone isn't really ready for release.
@@AltCine As I mentioned, this drone can be use for other purpose not like X1 only for quickshot so this product is 100% ready for release and I believe that can be fix on future firmware upgrade
Ohh shit.... I was about to punch that buy button... Now I'm a little reluctant to do it.. I think I will wait a little and see if there will be a software update before having a look again.
Being so disappointed by the fact that a product doesn't perform as well as another product which costs twice the price is plain stupid. Maybe you'll understand this if you'll have clients asking for 200 pounds video to be as good as 400 pounds video as an example.
So you don’t like the Neo because: it doesn’t boil water, make your bed and pour you a drink? All things it wasn’t designed for. It is a fast to deploy, low cost and easy to operate drone. The video is perfectly acceptable for what it is for.
I ordered one to go with my Mini 4 Pro and Avata 2. The video quality is absolutely the weakest part of this new drone and its shocking because it has been close to a decade since we saw video quite this poor out of DJI, but it does come back to the price: $199 USD is a whole new thing in drones and when you consider it can act as a controller-less selfie drone, fly by smartphone, fly as a full camera GPS drone via physical controller, or even fly full manual FPV as a cinewhoop what its doing for $199 USD is unheard of and forgives all kind of sins. I'm not overly impressed with Hover X1 footage either and think its advantages over the Neo are quite minimal, although the Pro and Pro Max (at 2x and 3x the price of the Neo) are a very different story. I think DJI wanted to not only blow the doors off Hover in terms of price (which they have) but also introduce drones in general to people who never would have considered one before. We are likely not the real target for this new category of drone but if they prove popular I can imagine them introducing a "Neo Pro" for $299-399 USD with a better camera and perhaps some avoidance sensors that might better satisfy people like us, but all in all the Neo remains a compelling drone because of its price, because of how it literally does EVERYTHING a drone can do, and for many these first bad looking video shots will still amaze because it will be their first experience capturing the world from the air.
@@canyonblue737-8 yeah I see where you're coming from and it mostly makes sense. I wish they would have just used the old sensor from the Mavic mini 2.7k as you can see...the shots look very good. The mini series was meant to be the "introductory drone" and it did very well. I definitely think I'm the target market for a quick shots drone as you can see by the 2 examples in this video. Long range, height, long battery life etc are no good to me, just wanted a simple toy drone for holidays and a little b-roll. Hopefully we see some serious fw updates roll out quickly.
I thought the same when I saw Potato Jet's video. The footage seems to be consistently over-exposed and over-sharpened. That and the movements seem less smooth on the DJI from what I've seen.
@@majortwang that's the best thing to do. We've got a lot of good drones at the moment so we can wait for the pro version. Hopefully they sort this out soon though.
Damn :D I just released my own video on the DJI Neo - and yeah - just like yours .... lets say its not going great for it :D
I'm just a small german creator but I just thougt some one had to say something - imho the footage is just not usable for anything really -
DJI wants us to believe they made the drone for everybody - however I'm feeling like they made a drone for nobody.
Just to get it out of the way - its FPV mode is nice to have if you already own the googles and controller but this drone struggles to track you down when you move faster than 27 kmh - for an FPV drone this is a joke - and a very very bad one :D
But getting closer to the target audience - when you are one to take beautiful pictures/videos with your drone - you need 1. a good image (which the NEO does simply not have) and 2. a controller - however the fly more combo of the NEO costs 350€ which is 50€ more than the DJI Mini 4K with a controller and FAR BETTER picture quality.

@@grabejudyes it is. The Neo looked amazing in the press videos and seemed like a solo creators dream.
The footage doesnt even look bad...
Neo is only half of the price of x1. I am not sure if there is a lot of people would pay extra $200 for slightly better image quality.

Bro, the only thing I noticed is that the DJI footage is brighter and the drone was closer to you
I love DJI drones and bought the Neo because I already have the Avata 2 to hone my skills, but DON'T try and practice with the DJI Neo in your home using the goggles and motion controller, as soon as it gets slightly close to a low light situation It will power forward at full speed (even if set to the lowest possible speed) and smash into the nearest wall......trust me, I've found out the hard way........three times!!!.......Fair play though, there isn't even a scratch on it.
@@quartelli I definitely think it's worth it for you. If I had invested in avata then I'd probably be ok with this drone just to mess around with.
You forgot to take the plastic off the lens. Remove that and it will be all good.

@@gkrunner thank you for this comment. I sincerely hope you're right. If they sort things out I'll definitely repurchase it.
Real talk. You get what you paid for. This is good for us who cant afford avata or hover.
I heard you can turn down Sharpness.
For hiking I think the low video quality would be a great compromise for the significant weight saving
You can change sharpness to -2 and also white balance, ISO using the RC-N3 for much better quality🤷♂️
Can you lower saturation and contrast as well?
and spend another $$$$$
once you change the setting is it saved permanently? i mean if after that you fly the drone without RC
My reason for canceling a buy for the DJI Neo is that it has geofencing that will not allow takeoff if you are near an airport. Even if you just take off from your hand with no controller.

Even their top of the line ones dun hv it 😂
One thing i hv always liked abt DJI is their fw updates over the yrs. N they tend to listen to us users. It's a big company too (1.5k R&D staff at $10bil valuation). They can do anything w that. Hopefully they'll be ard for long 😅
Juz my 2 cents 🙏
@@talktalk4503 I totally understand that and I agree with you. That really was the whole point of this video and I'm glad we're on the same page.
It was just a shock to see the poor video and that you need a controller to do anything about it.
Hopefully they'll sort this out and really shake up the market.
@@AltCine indeed. Keep up the great work bro ❤️
Ive seen that you can change the sharpening when you pair it with your phone.
I have one, the footage looks like badly upscaled 1080p…🤔🤔🤔
@@dogswhistlesharam9029 yes that's exactly what it looks like. It's shocking
I really hope they do mate, I'll definitely repurchase but they must unlock picture settings in quick shots.
Good review but dont forget do not fly two drones too close to eachother. They create their own air turbilance and the other is affected from that turbulance. That is why every airplane should wait for a while after the previous flight.
Which is louder during flight - the DJI or the HoverAir?
@@alfredlow6720 the pitch is different but I haven't really done any tests. I'd say the neo sounds a little louder. I can't test as I've already sent it back.

@@kcchiok yeah, the image should have come first.
This makes DJI made a new DJI NEO 2 released
definitely agreed to your thoughts on this so called inexpensive drone that will dethrone the x1, but right after i saw potatjet footage taken by neo, im sorry, the x1 wins by a mile in terms of quality. neo also is also needs a lot of light, so filming indoors will surprise a lot of people when their drone will just land on its own and wont fly.
@@grabejud yeah it was really surprising how quickly it gave up...I was expecting a lot more. X1 is very robust.

This is the first and only? review with critics on the Neo. Well done and thanks for that. Ow one thing though....I can't remember I gave permission to show my 120 million penthouse 😎
🤣🤣 can you spare some change please sir?
Hopefully DJI make this better so we can really show off our clips online.
when it comes to choosing a camera equipment, we are playing with several variables - use cases, image quality, cost, ease of use, etc.

How much did the Hover cost when it come out ?
@@mehmetmehmet-s2h That information is freely available on the internet. The fact is...they were a new company doing something different and different costs money.
DJI have practically unlimited resources and could have used the same sensor as the Mavic mini 2.7k and had a smash hit with the neo.
Don't shoot the messenger.
What I was thinking when looking at the footage of neo.. colour looks washed out etc
Isn't there a sharpness control another user has pointed out; set that to -2. Does that help ?
@@ScarboroughTourist They locked that off in most modes unless you have the the manual controller but I'm not sure if that will work without the V3 goggles.
I have no understanding of why they did this unless they want to push you into buying more gear with the neo.
Maybe there will be an update. Sounds like an easy fix.
You can change the sharpness useing the phone app, or RC2.
I appreciate your concerns. I currently have a mini 3 pro and thought I would still try this at family gatherings. It also looks like a toy to most and if challenged I'll represent it as such !!
I have purchased it with the controller so I can change the sharpness setting. My family generally view footage on smartphones; so this is one more tool in the arsenal around kids.
have you considered looking at the lens? I feel disengaged pretty quick. Otherwise good video
@@hellohogo thank you and sorry...it's a bad habit I have when I'm thinking deeply about what I'm saying.
@@AltCine ah no worries. I consult for some brand ambassadors. Just throwing my 2¢. You have a good presence
What does "wasted" indicate?
Tracking lost
@Altcine
That's what I figured but
It's not obvious in the video.
Does it try to restablish the tracking when it looses it?
yeah sure the video quality & simplistic on hoverAir x1 is good but you need to look overall features on drone... for example DJI Neo can use controller, dji goggles, dji fpv controller which is a lot of options.
just who buy a drone just to do autonomously when you can fly your drone autonomously & control it.

You made the right move! Even the 2.7k can be found used for £120 and has far superior image than the NEO.
I was thinking of getting the neo to add to my fleet for interior shots. Now I know I'll just stick with the Avata 2
@@SiriusXAim hmmm, yeah I don't think it's the drone for that. Camera definitely isn't good enough.
How much is Hover Air paying you?
@@six8415 £6million monthly. If you join us you'll be rich too.

IMO, you are a bit too harsh with your review. The neo just got release with brand new firmware and X1 has been out there for a while. It would be interesting if you can compare both Neo and X1 at their earliest firmware. The price is 2x difference too.

Being so disappointed by the fact that a product doesn't perform as well as another product which costs twice the price is plain stupid. Maybe you'll understand this if you'll have clients asking for 200 pounds video to be as good as 400 pounds video as an example.
Spot on mate.
So you don’t like the Neo because: it doesn’t boil water, make your bed and pour you a drink? All things it wasn’t designed for. It is a fast to deploy, low cost and easy to operate drone. The video is perfectly acceptable for what it is for.
Yeah you missed the point brother. You're not alone so I simplified it in a follow up video.
