Thanks for this review mate. Seeing tests in the field means more to me than just charts and spec sheets. I tend to put my gear through its paces, as I'm travelling a lot and shooting docs where time is limited. I have a BMPCC 4k that I'm still using (as still love!) , but I'm interested in the pocket 6k FF. The only bummer is the lack of internal ND.
BMD has come a long way since the Pocket Cinema 1. I hope Blackmagic stays independent of the giant camera vendors and stay true to their roots of crafting smart affordable and slightly nutty gear for those of us trying to not take jobs at the corporate studios making the next sequel to whatever.
Thank you. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! Your "rant" on rolling shutter should be required viewing for every shooter who thinks the entire audience for their work is going to be pixel-peeping, frame-dissecting fellow shooters. If a "civilian" audience finds itself wandering the screen to discover jellied verticals, then they have clearly checked out of whatever narrative to the point that the war is lost. Well done video over all. I have long swam against the current and championed Blackmagic cameras (from the original 2.5K Cinema Camera) for what they deliver at their price point. Glad to see the 6K Pyxis continues their ability to deliver.
That’s what I always wondered. People talk a lot of shit about the camera but yet constantly compare it to RED, Arri, and higher end and more expensive Sonys and Canons. But I’m glad the camera is getting some roses. Especially after the Scott Balkum(?) video dropped on his channel praising the Pyxis and he’s known for being all about RED.
Great video! Great anime segment! 🎞 I've seen a lot of Red footage. They Pyixs seemed to lack something in the color science, but I would like to see some Red Dragon footage side by side with the Pyxis to compare them. 📽
The color science of the Pyxis is just as good as the Venice 2 or the Alexa LF, color science?none of that matters we’re shooting on B raw… the camera shoot Raw only with 1080p proxies if u need it. (Slow computer) You need to see the footage done by a professional color grader. it’s actually better than RED.. it’s a 16bit container file. Most people think the BM is 12 bit. It’s not! It’s better for post production processing. And also the motion cadence is more filmic. The Pyxis gives you a true film look. Older Red cameras have more of a video -ish look. Especially the epic red dragon.
Thank you! Yes the MTB section has some gopro and fpv footage mixed in :) we had one gopro mounted to the back of the bike and the rider had one on his helmet
I think BM has their color sorted much better than the other companies. Their log profile and color science just looks really nice out of the gate. That said the Pyxis sensor is mid. You get fixed noise pattern pretty quickly and the HFR options are bad. The FX6 sensor is better as is the Nikon Z8/Z9 sensor. I wish BM could have afforded to put one of those sensors in the Pyxis. Of course they wouldn't have been able to do that at such low cost. I would probably pay an extra $2000 for that though. That said it's great for the price regardless.

I have a video about the blazar remus lenses coming soon, with footage from the RED. The example shots with the Dragon I show of the BMW Z3 earlier in the video are shot with the blazar lenses on the dragon.
@@futc.photography I've always thought that a sensor is important of course, but in a world where so many of the same sensors are used across manufacturers, a lens is - or can be - the biggest differentiator.
