My second knitted gift was a brioche scarf I made for my dad. Grey heather yarn to coordinate with a navy blue parka he wore for the walk to and from his work. Dad loved it and that made me so incredibly happy.
I have been more of a crochter for 50 years but taught myself to knit 18 years ago, I've always been a bit intimidated by Brioche Knitting. Thank you for making it so simple! Making a scarf with your technique right now that is a varigated purple for my granddaughter! Thanks again!
Ive been putting off learning brioche because it seemed difficult. Im so glad i gave it a go. Your instruction is really great and i found it super easy to follow and I'm well on my way to my favorite scarf to date. Thank you
This was my first knit project, and it turned out great! Only change I made was adding a selvedge edge (from the NimbleNeedles brioche tutorial), because the "knit 1" at the edge of every row looks kinda jenky. Thank you so much for making this video tutorial. My husband loves the scarf. 😊
@@Ragamauffin Not sure, many hours. Once I learned how to sew a life line into my work, I was able to stop having to unravel the whole dang thing each time I messed up.
Thank you so much for this tutorial!! ❤I have wanted to try this stitch for so long but could never understand how to do until watching your video!! As you suggested I made a small swatch first and had to frog it a couple of times before getting the hang of it. But as you promised it became easier and I'm making my first brioche scarf yayy!! I casted on with 31 stitches and am using a sparkling dark green yarn. It turning out so beautifully. ❤ I am also placing a salvage line about every 30 rows too just in case 😂. I can't wait to try 2 color brioche. Thanks again!!❤
Thank you for this tutorial 💕 you make it look so easy. I'm looking forward to making this, I even have some Ferris Wheel yarn already. Lots of love and yarny hugs 💗
Hi Brittany. This scarf is so pretty! I love brioche. Watching you knit is so relaxing and your voice is so soothing. I purchased these blocking mats through your affiliate like years ago and love them. Thanks for another great tutorial! 💞
Hi! I really love this design. I am a beginner knitter and wanted to make this scarf but I find that I keep having to restart because I occasionally drop a stitch and then I am uncertain how to reloop it onto the needles (if that makes sense). Do you have a video how to do this for this stitch, or any advice please? I'd love to be able to recover a stitch and keep going with the make! Thanks!
Hi, I’m almost done with a scarf I’m making for my son in law for Christmas lol (late I know) using the same yarn and your pattern also in Morning Java color, do I need to block it since I don’t have the blocks and my apartment is small. I remember my sister had a sewing machine back in Lebanon but I was small, I think she used to wet a towel and lightly ironed them, I didn’t know why though, do you think I can do the same? Also there are some fuzzies do you think I can shave them off with a sweater shaver? Thank you 🙏
Im a but nervous 😬 Im considering either this stitch or your other one, the fishermans . I paid $34 per ball for Australian Merino hand dyed wool and its for an elderly gentleman whos 86 Im ok with knitting, Id never tried these two patterns and will do a sampler for each and then chose I will let you know on either tutorial which one I did and how it worked out 😊 Thank you so much 😊
Casting on 39 stitches is a little too wide. How many stitches would you recommend decreasing this to without messing up the pattern? Any odd number of stitches?
Wait, you knit the first stich in row 1 and 2, and then on row 3 you slipped it without mentioning it in the video or in the pattern. So, Slip or no slip?
Hi. I just found this video. Your instructions are very clear, but I have one question. On the rows where you do the BRK, it looks as though you are keeping the yarn in front after slipping the stitch purlwise. If I am correct, every time you do the BRK, you are knitting with the yarn forward, correct? Thanks. This is an easier brioche method than the ones where you let the yarn lie in front and pick it up, but I want to make sure I am doing the BRK with the yarn forward. Thank you!
I've knit a couple rows into this scarf and I love the pattern but I'm a bit on the smaller side so I would like to have the scarf a little less wide! Does any odd number of stitches work for the pattern if anyone knows!
Glad you like it! Typically, washing will reverse the effects of blocking and you'll have to block it again. Some yarns are more forgiving than others though.
Hi, I am beginner . Working on this scarf. I forgot to bring yarn forward and do slip purlwise . Can you help to fix this mistake. It’s my half way project.
I am really enjoying knitting a brioche scarf using your video and pattern, I started knitting again only in the last week or 2 after 25 years and am loving it. I’d like to switch yarn to make a stripe in the brioche. Is there any special way to do this in brioche ie single colour brioche exactly as this tutorial but after 50cm I want to switch to new block of colour, It’s not giving quite a straight line on the colour change? I’ve also looked at your 2 colour brioche and noticed that the technique is slightly different to this pattern. Should I have done that technique really if I’m doing blocks of colour ? Very many Thanks
Hey Karin! The bumpy color line you’re seeing is completely normal for this stitch, so you’re not doing anything wrong 👍 Unfortunately, some stitches have this kind of look when you change colors. Two color brioche would certainly be a neat way to use a second color in your project, but it won’t be color blocks like you’re looking for. This stitch shows both colors…one color “on top” and the other color “in the background”. It’s a really interesting option!
What if NOT 39 stitches and different yarn... i love a tutorial that explains the number of stitches devided by factor x plus y number of extra stitches... when not using 39 stitches the otherwise useful tutorial becomes useless... 😢
ok so ICBW but what I gathered is odd numbered stitches will give you a symmetrical edges so you can cast any number of odd stitches and this pattern will still hold up. I think in this tutorial the brioche pattern is worked on the middle 37 stitches, and the first and last stitch on the needle (where you always knit) is the edge stitch.
Hi, I'm a beginner, and I've been trying to make this for my bf, so far I've spent around 20-30 hours for 2/3 of the scarf, I guess it depends on your speed also, once you get the hang of it it becomes way faster to knit 😊
This is a great question, and it has a round about answer :) If you substitute a chunky weight yarn, and don't make adjustments to the needle size and cast on number, you'd end up with a much larger scarf that doesn't drape well. So I definitely wouldn't use a thicker yarn and follow the pattern. However, with some adjustments you can make it work if you prefer to use a chunkier yarn. Use the needle size on the yarn label as a good starting point, and cast on fewer stitches (an odd number of them). You may have to play around with it to get it as wide as you'd like, but this would all be a great lesson in gauge!
SUGGESTIONS: 1. Cast on using a Provisional Cast-on. That way, you can Cast Off both ends exactly the same way. 2. Join your yarn using a Russian Join. Consider adding stitches to the beginning and end of the row and working a di-stitch edge.

Excellent tutorial. No one else has been able to show me the exact way to start the cast on and then the way each row ands and begins. Thank you.
Only thing is you must be lying cuz most of it was covered by her hand and just cut out. 😂😂😂

Hihi, would you pls help to advise how many to cast on for cotton yard using 4.5mm needles? Is it also suitable with thin yarns? Thank you 🙏

@@bhookedknitting Thank you very much for getting back to me, that’s really helpful. And thank you for the really enjoyable tutorials you’ve done 👍
It becomes too tight on the needle to maneuver the stitches. Very frustrating.

how long does it take
Can we create a neater edge by just slipping the first stitch?
Sure can :)
Would it be okay to use a heavy/chunky yarn instead? Like a 6 instead of 4?
This is a great question, and it has a round about answer :) If you substitute a chunky weight yarn, and don't make adjustments to the needle size and cast on number, you'd end up with a much larger scarf that doesn't drape well. @@bhookedknitting thank you! I'll have to try it out, and see what I come up with.
maybe dont cover every stitch with your hand and cut out a bunch of parts when explaining :)
What are you talking about she explained it perfectly 😂
And if I cast on the left and have my yarn on the left? :(
I have a question would this work if I cut the number of loops in half so instead of being 39 loops wide could I do 19 or 29?
Yes
SUGGESTIONS: 1. Cast on using a Provisional Cast-on. That way, you can Cast Off both ends exactly the same way. 2. Join your yarn using a Russian Join. Consider adding stitches to the beginning and end of the row and working a di-stitch edge.
Blocking is a good idea except if you live in a one bedroom apartment with very little space.
I can see that! You can get the same outcome by folding the scarf in half when you block, and it’ll require half the space!
@@bhookedknitting It's finding a spot to put the blocking mats after the project is pinned to be out of the way that is the hardest part.
You can lean it sideways against a wall. I’ve seen that done.
This is too difficult.😣😢
Don't give up! This stitch takes a little while to get the hang of, and turn the motions to muscle memory!
You go tooooo fastttttt
How do I fix a dropped stitch on this sequence 😢

You are literally covering stitches with your thumb and cutting steps.
Too hard for beginners
