getting in and out of hubby's porsche taycan is not easy.... this is very useful information. Next show how a lady with a hand bag should get in and out of a sports car without scratching the crap out of it. 😅
I personally just have a new leather cover put on when it gets to bad, but I drive trucks and don't care. I can't see getting in a sports car the same way. I thought you'd have to get in the way you described. You're already having to sit down in it. Might as well sit in the right place.
Some of the trucks at work have sheepskin seat covers and some even have nylon seat covers over the sheepskin to stop them getting shit up with mud. Seat covers or not the leather seat base bolsters always end up split or burst from guys jumping in and out of them all all day. The covers do help though and some of the seats without covers on are completely trashed split bolsters and saggy worn leather
Yes there is. I restore leather. It's called leather repair putty or filler - yes 'filler'. You have to use it to believe it. An 8 inch hole to perfect with substrate backing OR rub it in or use a spreading tool (old banking card) to strengthen and irradicate scratches small holes too on UTTERLY THIN HOLEY FRAYED leather. Try it on a £3000 sofa. It's amazing!!!!! No brands advertised by me as it's made by many many makers.
Dude is dropping some real knowledge on us. The first to point out that it's actually your big ass causing all that damage. Listen and obey, your car seats will thank you, plus you'll be getting in some calisthenics while you get into and out of your leather seats!
I understand and completely agree with how to get in and out of the car. However it's not always going to be that easy. I've just bought a very low mileage SLK and it has side bolster damaged seats 🤔🙄 but as the car is so low and the doors are so big you will have to be able to fully open the doors to be able to allow you to enter the exit the car as you have described and that's not always going to be possible especially if someone parks too close to you. My other sports car is a 1955 MGTF which has rear hinged doors so it encourages and promotes the entry/exit method you are showing us. Good video and interesting 👍 Kind regards Paul 🇬🇧
Update: When I wanted info on how to protect my leather car seats I searched RUclips and other sources. Primarily, I wanted to know what kind of protectant or conditioner I should use, assuming, short of putting a tacky seat cover on, this was the way to protect my seats and make them last longer. Then I came here and honestly, wasn't thrilled with the info in this video. After about a year of using my SUV with leather seats, I've come to realize that what this guy is saying is actually SPOT ON. Seems silly but he's absolutely right.
This video is great! I'm in the process of buying a car with leather seats (my first!) and your information was great. I guess anyone who wants a ride will be obligated to watch your video first ;)
Thank you!! I'm buying an SUV tomorrow that has leather seats and this came up first recommended in my search for care. I've definitely learned a lot and I promise you I'll take this information going forward.
Before this video, I was dragging my ass when I got in and out of my car. Now I hold my ass up high and drop it straight down on the seat. It's been six months now and my leather seats look fantastic.
Dude...did you watch the vid?? It's not the quality of the seat (of which BMW's is insanely high), it's the quality of the car owner. Same with exterior paint & you idiots who continue to scratch around the door handles with your fingernails & keys. Like Darren very accurately points out, its a "LACK OF AWARENESS" (aka clumsy, lazy, ignorant, entitled, etc. owners that think it's the manufacturer's problem when YOU destroy their product) smh
This make sense if you’re buying the car brand new and caring for it. However, I find it hard to believe that the protective coat last the entire duration of the car. The driver seat is a great sign of this. Every time the car is used, so is the driver seat. We’ve seen changes in the leather after a month or two. That protective coat is gone.
So in reality your not cleaning or conditioning the actual leather. Your cleaning the sealed coating on it and I guess conditioning it as well. If you can’t condition the actual leather then it’s best to keep it out the heat and sunlight or it will break down quicker with age. I’m wondering if car seat covers are a good idea since there could be abrasion issues and compatibility issues between the two materials.
I have had the occasion to speak with top designers for some worldwide manufacturers of automobiles. And I always say one thing, like my 1975 442, give me back my swivel bucket seats. I don’t slide over the seat bolster I just sit down and stand up facing immediately outward on my egress. That solves a lot of non-cloth seat issues.
That's why I chose with cloth seats. I kept my Civic for sixteen years grey suede seats, they were easy to clean and looked pretty decent to date. I do not want the hassle of maintaining leather.
"Do not drag your ass on the side bolsters when you get in and out of your car!" Lol this is the realist advice ever. Also I used to clip my keys on my hip, but my ex asked me nicely to not have my keys there when I got in the car. I didnt even think of buttons or keys scratching but it makes total sense!
mistake #1 is really putting me off getting leather seats. i know i'll be careful with getting in and out but can't say that for anyone else who's likely to use the car.
starts the video sitting on top of the side bolster, Good job! then sits on the side bolster getting out. you are a genius sir. step 2 sitting on the side BOLSTER WTF bro! id be pissed if I paid you to detail my vehicle watching this FR. GET YOUR ASS OFF MY SIDE BOLSTER WHILE TALKING ABOUT HOW TO NOT MESS UP MY SEATS! there is a gross build up because you are placing your nasty ass on my side bolster LOL
No one taught me. I on my own developed youre exact technique of getting in and out of my car, but only after i damaged my first leather interior car. When i got my new car, also leather, i developed the most efficient way to in and out of the car without damaging the seat.
Behind all this narrative is a genuine intent of helping others... I admire that in you. However, please tell us what steps we take to care for our leather seats. thanks with Sincerity
1 thing he didn't explain is leather drys out with time making it brittle. Conditioner softens it again by hydrating it so the more often you breakout the cleaner and then condition it the longer your leather will last enjoy 🤓
I have a MX5 NC MK3 for my daily driver and I get in and out exactly how you demonstrated. Unfortunately when I purchased the car it had really low miles but the driver's left side bolster was already damaged.
I agree, but I put my right foot in the middle of the carpet first, then sit in the seat, then raise my other leg. When I come out of the car, I put my left foot on the ground and leave my right foot in the car. Then simultaneously left myself using both legs and lean towards the outside and come out. The end result is that side bolsters(lower and upper) look 90% new, although car is 2010.
Holy shit, thats entertaining how you present it! Im not fetish about my car at all, but i love how you tell common sense tips…was just looking how to stop battery draining on my older Audi🤣❤️
I have a weak left leg from a back injury and I lift my left leg up into place. Common sense tells you any repetitive contact with leather will wear it. Add in hard contact with purse, keys, gun holsters, etc will damage leather faster. I am not a fan of leather seats, but our last car has them and they are a PIA, and cold in the winter and hotter in the summer. We have heated seats, but not cooling seats. And many manus are charging a subscription to "perks" like "heated" steering wheels/seats now. ......The automobile industry is killing itself slowly with greed and stupidity.
Bought my car pre-owned. The seats in it are kind of known for premature wear. I took it to the dealership and they're giving me a new seat. 7k miles shouldn't be cracking but hopefully I can take care of it from now on
good tip on getting out of trucks though, every time I get out of mine I cringe as I slide and smash the hell out of the side of the seat lol it is my own fault because I refuse to have a step rail...that would solve the problem but dont like the look. I will attempt your method!
Great video. We purchased a truck with leather seats (17 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali) and the seats are VERY slippery. What can we do to help this? I think they used only conditioner.
I’m in a conundrum where I want to protect my leather but I also don’t want to put seat covers on…currently I’m doing a routine cleaning/conditioning maintenance
Those of you that have synthetic leather gaming chairs, clean and condition them at least once a month. Going on two years on a PU chair that I take care of every couple weeks. Feels smooth as hell and no tears. Even better than the day it arrived. Just take care of your stuff, it will last way longer.
I have one that I have never done anything to at all and use it all the time, it is still in perfect shape even though the "leather" rubs against a corner of my desk all the time. The good synthetic leather is better than the real stuff it seems to me.
Thanks for a great video Darren. Due to spinal failure, I have been shown how to get in and out of a car to prevent further spinal damage, not to protect the seat coverings. On a similar note I believe Saab developed a swivel seat that meant you not only didn’t damage side bolsters, there was almost zero wear on the seat covering. Question: is there any point in putting CarPro ‘Leather’ on my new car’s seat to even help the coating already on the leather?
I've been telling clients and family forever that have issues with their leather interiors prematurely wearing out due to sliding in and out of their car seat. It wears the effing leather out. They always have holes and tears in their leather from negligence! My leather on 30 and up to 50 years old look like new on my classic cars that are garage. I have a business maintaining classic cars and storing them for my clients. It's an awesome business. Their classics are always ready, clean, and stored in a climate controlled facility. We have an entire restoration program as well, and handle everything from Barret Jackson vehicles too museum pieces. It's a lounge/bar/car condo/a cave. We have a full service restaurant as well.
Sounds like a sweet place! I know these facilities have risen in popularity over time and some of them are amazing as to when a customer buys their own storage "condo" and tricks it out.
*I like your approach, straight forward, no feelings spared. This type of honesty is lost in this Satanic world. Great Video, hope it gets more views.*
So true! Love to hear someone else say it! ‘Cept... I’m told I’m brutally honest, and I am. There’s very little velvet to my hammer. Dear World: Just don’t beat around the bush, it’s more rude to hem and haw and lie and waste people’s time; and it’s more kind to be honest and straightforward, anyway. Say what has to be said, and people can do with it what they will. Be a truth teller. It’s rare in this world.
I always get in and out my car pretty much the same way as I am aware of this. Though I didn't know about the leather cleaning as I have a 180SX and it's a fabric seat. Now I have a E36 also and ots leather and was about to give the leather a good conditioner but now I will clean it first and see the results thanks.
Thank you very much for the advice could you tell us what type of products can we use if we want to clean our leather in our car ? anything u recomend ? to remove dust or dirt
I wondered exactly this; about the is conditioning and feeding the leather needed for these exact reasons. So I bought just a seat cleaner. I thought I’d make sure a conditioner wasn’t needed and the brand/manufacturer stated it’s a must. I’ve still decided against it. Then this RUclips just made me realise I was correct. But I overthink things, analyse. Plus being frugal. But how many people would just buy it thinking it’s needed.
That’s why you clean the leather with balanced PH solution then apply moisturizer or conditioner… leather will shrink and crack over time without taking care of it. I’ve met master leather artists from Testoni Bologna and Stefano Bemer they all advised me to use good quality conditioners on leather, not too often…even a man told me to use extra virgin olive oil. So conditioning the dead skin material is very important just be careful not to use cheap products.
I realized it's just easier to never get in or out of the car. My leather is going to last forever.
You could also just get in and out via the window. 🤷♂️🤣
That’s what I do!..
Good advice 🤣

@@lutalicarebus1 It's silly, but on the other hand you don't see beat up cars on the road, and when you sell a car with no cosmetic damage you get a lot more money for it. There is a huge export market for used Japanese cars from Japan.
Thanks for FINALLY a person saying that the leather has been coated with a synthetic layer and is literally plastic on top of it. It doesn’t have pores that clog up or „breaths“ in that matter... I love the matte and soft feel of Good quality leather like in Porsches, BMWs and so on, but most of the People are handling it wrong.
Thank you! And, yes, I have gotten in and out of my cars the same way for 30 years . Common sense.
I just bought my first car with leather seats and i know they require special care but i didn't know what extent. your video was very helpful. thank you so much.
How about cleaning your leather seats with Maguire’s all purpose cleaner at 10 - 1 dilution. Use microfiber cloth . I then put light coat of 303 space age protectant for protection. Wander where I got that idea. Thanks Darren !
I just use aloe vera gel and mix it with organic cold pressed virgin coconut oil for to clean and condition my leather. You can also use this on your face, body and hair. =)
@@EliteOnTheBeat where did you learn this? What if it ruins the seats?
Anybody knows if i can clean my leather seats with jojoba oil ? I have this bottle of Dr. Bronners all solution cleaner.
@@Thomas-qo2vp Luxe Leather from TurtleWax advertises their product with these exact ingredients: cocoa butter and aloe vera. I wouldn't mix them myself though, as who knows what the result might be.
Good informational video. Would suggest not to call viewers sheep. Trying to learn, could do without the insult. But will continue to see your videos
Oh my good! I was starting to believe I was crazy, I always thought that mistake #1 was a major part of the equation. I though I was alone on this, I’m glad I found someone that sees that too.
To your question: No, nobody has ever had to teach me how to get in/out of my vehicle because I guess I just have the natural sense to know this...I've always tried to avoid dragging my ass against the seats. BUT, like you said, apparently this is a secret that many folks either don't know OR frankly don't care. Good tips.
Nobody has ever said anything about getting in and out of the car. I thought it was such a inconsequential thing. Thanks a million for the video!!
Why do I feel like I’ve just been berated for 10 minutes! Jesus
Riiiiiiiiight?!?!?! No tact.
not to mention he is just overly wearing out a different bolster/part of seat.
Hmmm...he must've hit a nerve with you folks then. You came here looking to fix that worn out part of your seat because you're lazy, huh? Surprise.
@@ThatKa5p3r I came here looking for general leather care tips before anything like this happens to my car. I didn't think I was going to be accused of being the worse person in the world. 🌍
@@maxdempsey9943 lol. And you got tips, what else ya need?? I, for one, appreciate the honest, direct approach. I'm also a very observant, socially/spatially aware & confident human being that wouldn't be offended by constructive criticism, sooooo.....
I agree with you 100% I've been detailing cars for 35 years and most ppl have no clue what there doing to there car..
Just got a car with leather seats! So happy I watched this.
getting in and out of hubby's porsche taycan is not easy.... this is very useful information.
Good video and interesting 👍
Kind regards Paul 🇬🇧
Update: When I wanted info on how to protect my leather car seats I searched RUclips and other sources. Primarily, I wanted to know what kind of protectant or conditioner I should use, assuming, short of putting a tacky seat cover on, this was the way to protect my seats and make them last longer. Then I came here and honestly, wasn't thrilled with the info in this video. After about a year of using my SUV with leather seats, I've come to realize that what this guy is saying is actually SPOT ON. Seems silly but he's absolutely right.
Maguires Matte Leather protectant
This video is great! I'm in the process of buying a car with leather seats (my first!) and your information was great. I guess anyone who wants a ride will be obligated to watch your video first ;)
I've been closing my door the proper way ever since watching your video. Thanks for the great tips
Cant imagine that BMW has such a poor quality leather seats ...have you ever worked of tried colourlock?
Dude...did you watch the vid?? It's not the quality of the seat (of which BMW's is insanely high), it's the quality of the car owner. Same with exterior paint & you idiots who continue to scratch around the door handles with your fingernails & keys. Like Darren very accurately points out, its a "LACK OF AWARENESS" (aka clumsy, lazy, ignorant, entitled, etc. owners that think it's the manufacturer's problem when YOU destroy their product) smh
No one taught me this. Buying a new car and look forward to doing it right from now on. Thank you.
So how do we clean our coated leather seats???
Very good video!
No bs (like always) and straight to the pionts and onformation people need/want to know.
Thanks again!
Maybe not straight to the pionts but he is correct yes... His onformation is good isn't it !!
Thank You. This is the Best Video I have seen, ever on car leather seats. Develop good life logic, Awareness, muscle development and coordination.
Nobody taught me how to get in and out of the car. Great tips
Best video on this subject, i was a sheep for many years & probably ruined many leather seats because of this.
Quite thorough there on the mount/dismount procedure..think I got it now.
There’s no alternative though cloth seats are vile
starts the video sitting on top of the side bolster, Good job! then sits on the side bolster getting out. you are a genius sir. step 2 sitting on the side BOLSTER WTF bro! id be pissed if I paid you to detail my vehicle watching this FR. GET YOUR ASS OFF MY SIDE BOLSTER WHILE TALKING ABOUT HOW TO NOT MESS UP MY SEATS! there is a gross build up because you are placing your nasty ass on my side bolster LOL
What do you think about putting a towel on your seat to avoid wear to the leather.
Horrible idea your sitting in a towel, might aswell of spec'd cloth seats.
No one taught me. I on my own developed youre exact technique of getting in and out of my car, but only after i damaged my first leather interior car. When i got my new car, also leather, i developed the most efficient way to in and out of the car without damaging the seat.
You just now no one ever told me that’s much needed information Thank you very much and again and again Thank you
cheers auto, just picked up my new car first leather i ever had, thanks for the tips. first video i looked at. Nice
Those getting in and out of your car is so on point.. but also unexpected! Good call.
I solved this problem 100% I put Amazon sear covers on , leather still like new 3 years later
A bit intense don’t we think? Good god man, time for decaf
hahaahhahaha
Its 6 in the morning as I watch this on my way to work lol
What can I use to clean the leather though?
Next time I won’t spend $90,000 on my car with Leather Seats. I’ll get a Nissan with cloth so I can get in and it how I want for $70,000 less. LOL!
Why'd you pay 70k for a nissan
Bought my car pre-owned. The seats in it are kind of known for premature wear. I took it to the dealership and they're giving me a new seat. 7k miles shouldn't be cracking but hopefully I can take care of it from now on
Someone did in fact teach me how to get in and out of my car to best take care of the leather.
Someone is you, you are that someone.
Thank you !! We’ve seen so many issues with the driver seats and door looking as if a shark went crazy in the vehicle.
good tip on getting out of trucks though, every time I get out of mine I cringe as I slide and smash the hell out of the side of the seat lol it is my own fault because I refuse to have a step rail...that would solve the problem but dont like the look. I will attempt your method!
So what do I use?
Great video love the end being a good little sheep with the synthetic top coating
Are you saying ALL car leather has a coating.....?
Great video. We purchased a truck with leather seats (17 GMC Sierra 1500
Denali) and the seats are VERY slippery.
Question: is there any point in putting CarPro ‘Leather’ on my new car’s seat to even help the coating already on the leather?
never thought about how i get in and out of my car. Thanks for the tips!
I agree
I always get in and out my car pretty much the same way as I am aware of this. Though I didn't know about the leather cleaning as I have a 180SX and it's a fabric seat. Now I have a E36 also and ots leather and was about to give the leather a good conditioner but now I will clean it first and see the results thanks.
Great self defense techniques on getting in/out of your car...
Fantastic video. My question is: How often should one condition their leather in a brand new 2022 vehicle? Thank you
Some really good advice and like how you showed how to get in and out the of a vehicle.
This is so true on the 2000s Chevy and GMC trucks
Like the way you present things
Darren what do you think of car coatings dont hear you talk about that much I'd love to hear your opinion
The coating is problem gone in vehicles 15 or 20 plus years old
