Hello, Everyone, this is our Glad it's Friday video! See How we Paint Silicone ruclips.net/video/Sp6HGSSQGXk/видео.html This works for leather or vinyl. This is Part 1 of a 2 Part repair series. MEK I painted a steering wheel using regular rustoleum and got amazing results. It was on a navigator and I was able to fix sun damage by lightly sanding and then painting with a few light coats.
@@bitemefoker My question exactly. I used SPC's technique for sprucing up some nasty looking cracked and faded leather in my mom's Caddie....and it came out looking like brand new. After doing that, i then discovered about a quarter sized hole in the backseat. So, SPC.....do we need to put a patch over that hole, or will a silicone film as in your video do the trick? Thank for the great videos!
@@SweetProjectCars lol copy that sir , I will let you know , she's a lemon and most likely was made on a Friday also, great vid sir love how you improvise with anything , tire treatment works great
Sweet Jesus! That came out absolutely beautiful. Not only was your video short n sweet, but I went to the description box and you've included links for everything! You made my job so much easier! Thank you!
I was about to tackle reupholstering the entire back deck over the engine compartment of our 2004 boat. I am SO excited to try this instead! I just found your channel a few days ago. I spent 3 days cleaning the interior of my car, it went from disgusting chocolate milk carpet and melted crayons to looking brand new. I didn't think it was possible for my Edge to look this great again, the last thing to fix is my leather seat. I have already told 3 people about your channel. Thanks for all the amazing tips! My husband was SHOCKED when he saw how great the car looked. :)

Wow...the silicone thing actually worked and worked well...Easy...I have a 93 vette with only 40.000 miles on it and is almost pristine condition with white leather seats...my parents dog jumped in my car poking a whole in the passenger seat...a couple of years ago i bought a leather repair kit only making the area on the seat worse then it was...I tried this method with the silicone and it worked...I like the idea that it doesn't have to be perfect as it will blend in with the texture of the rest of the seat...Clean ...fast and easy..I ended up doing the other small cracks in both seats...you can't even tell....

I need to repair the very top back of my pontoon seats where the black cover baked them. How is everything holding up? I also have a couple of holes in the foam on the top of the seats. Is permatex the only thing that I need to fill the holes? The holes are probably an inch to inch and a half deep by about the same width.
I sold it years ago but I'm sure there is good info on YT. There is a DAP brand caulk that is good for filling holes and taking paint. They use it for leather repair.

This is badass!! I have all the materials on hand (I have a huge crafting habit). I know the 100% silicone is a little smelly, but it would be so worth it to repair the leather in a car I just got. Thanks man!! 👏♥️

great job ... I also do these jobs in Italy and you get wonderful results .... American leather is difficult to paint due to the high content of silicone that makes the skin shiny ... we prefer skin from us opaque ... still good work
Damn that really makes me wanna do that to the seats in my car mine are in pretty good condition for being 10 years old but still wouldn’t mind them looking brand new like that
I have a '07 Acura TL I just bought Monday. Its half taken apart right now but after I get it back together I need to focus on the rips in the leather seats! Thanks for this video! I am hoping I can fix then to atleast prevent them from getting worse!

Sweet Project Cars, Thank you for sharing this video, your experience is priceless. I got a question for you: In this video you spread clear silicone, then spray painted on top of it. In another video, however, you said that the paint needs to be mixed in into the silicone, otherwise it will "fish eye". How did the spray paint work in this video without "fish eyeing"? I'm trying to understand which way to go - mix the paint into the silicone, or spray the paint on top of clear silicone like in this video.
We did both methods for those that aren't as experienced as us, the best way is to mix the paint with the silicone, spread it, let it dry then do a final paint. Hope this helps my friend. Thank you so much for watching and asking. Have a fantastic weekend. mad Mike the hammer SPC
Wow a cheaper alternative to expensive seat leather replacement for seats .. with possible lasting results that looks like new very impressed ... This guy would be on business forever .... All the cars on the road ... Needing help with damages seats
Dude, i soooooo need to do this to my driver seat in my yukon xl. I wish i could just drive it to ur shop lol. Thank u very much for all the sweeeeeet diy stuff uve helped me with 👍👍👍👍👍🇺🇸
Great vid! Was wondering though, for someone who isn't comfortable with their ability to do this on their own, what would be the typical cost to have it done? And how would you go about finding someone who does this kind of work rather than the reupholstered route?
Jeff Parkin great question this is a DIY project so if you decide to have someone else do it it may be best just to buy the manufactures seat covers and replace them with new, it will be less costly for you but if you do tackle the project you can save a boatload of money with the DIY we share here.
Agreed! We've done this hundreds of times for customers, it's amazing. Thank you for watching and for the comment Cecilia, we really appreciate it, have a great week my friend. mad Mike the hammer SPC
BobinBC I used BMW black 258, I only touched up areas with a q tip and it’s blending perfectly. I also painted a dash trim piece that was peeling. So close to perfect match.
Thank you very much my friend we truly appreciate that it’s usually the competition out there that do car videos that gives the thumbs down I don’t know why we can’t just all get along LOL
Probably upholsterers. They don't like trade secrets being given out. Lots of money to be made redoing leather and most do not know you can do repairs. I should know I do custom seats for cars and boats...
That is so true. I watch a lot of gardening videos and one guy went on another guy’s video and pointed out something common , not even offensive but that rubbed the other guy the wrong way. Long story short out of Bieber the guy who pointed out the mistake was getting 90% thumbs down. Well it discovered that the guy who was “called out” for lack of a better term , was the one behind the robo thumbs down.
Came out nice. Wonder how it would work on perforated seats. Will it clog up the small holes? 🤔 Maybe go over one by one with a toothpick or something.
If you have the patience of Job, you can poke a hole through each and every one, but it's not recommended to do this process on the perforated seats Gabriel. Yes it does clog the holes. Thank you for watching and asking, hope you have a fantastic day my friend. mad Mike & team
Love your channel and low cost no BS approach to restoring cars. Was curious if you’ve ever tried using a colored RTV instead of clear on a repair like this? Was thinking Black RTV on a black seat but would it really matter? Anyway, thanks for your awesome vids! Jim
Quick question! I am a Paint Contractor, I know from experience that paint does not stick to silicone. Is that siliconized caulking that you used? Siliconized is a paintable caulk. Just curious because my wife's Lexus seats need some attention. Thanks!
Fay Turman for this to work you need to use the exact tools and methods shown see this for all the tools and exact products they are in the "SHOWMORE" of the video description if you look Here photos.app.goo.gl/4fbqwpXC3Koqsv8o7 for a desktop computer or here photos.app.goo.gl/dY6Wz16qnroYHDsK6 for a cell phone, you will find all the tools and products my friend :)
If they're properly maintained with something like Leatherique, you won't have to worry about the cracking. Also, this method shown here is doing absolutely nothing for the health of the leather, and will prevent actual conditioning in the future. If you actually care about the condition of your leather, do it right. Check into Leatherique.
Wintermute vs Neuromancer don't be skeptical my friend, just give it a try and when you do make sure you see all 3 videos in the series you will be amazed at the results :)
Glad to help! You've got to watch our new series we just started, we are going to show you exactly how to buy low and sell high :) Thanks for watching, here's the first video in the series ruclips.net/video/aX6G5FHKtzM/видео.html Have a great week my friend. mad Mike & team
I just needed a cover for the driver's seat alone. Not the back. So I took an outdoor chair cushion I had that was thin enough and sewed ties to the back corners. Tied the ties together around the seat in the back. Works perfect.
So I have watched all 3 videos in the series, multiple times, as well as an additional video you put out where you mixed the paint with the RTV silicone before applying the silicone, but I am still just a little unclear as to when exactly in the process to spray on the 1st coat of ColorBond LVP paint. At one point in the video it appears to say to wait 24 hours for the silicone to cure (which I would think would inhibit the paint from bonding to the silicone), but in the "mix the paint with the silicone" video, it appears as if you are painting the silicone while it is still a bit tacky. I really, really don't want to do this wrong... should I be waiting 24 hours before applying the 1st coat of paint to the RTV silicone, or should I spray on the 1st coat while the silicone still has some tack to it? Thanks!
Mix your paint and silicone as the video shows, apply it to the seat, then once it's not tacky any longer, paint it. It could take 24 -48 hrs. for the tackyness to disappear. Thanks for asking, we appreciate it! Have a great day my friend. mad Mike the hammer SPC
@@SweetProjectCars I didn’t see you mix paint with silicone in this video, it appears that you painted directly on the silicone which was applied straight out of the tube onto the seat. Is that correct? Also, did you use SEM prep on the siliconed seat before you painted? (There was a break in the video)
I did my door trims that had rips with vinyl compound putty then sprayed them with vht vinyl matt black cans over it. Never knew you can use silicone tube and it makes sense. Whats the adhesion spray you use after the alcohol cleaner?
Love the video! I have a concern maybe you can address: I was in painting/waterproofing 20+ years. A big no-no was painting over silicone unless silicone was a special “paintable” grade. Have you had any durability or longevity issues? I have a G37 needs some work, and my kids are in and out a few times a day. Was wondering about your confidence level in this process holding up, especially the paint bond. It looks fantastic. Thanks again for a great video!
Darrin we will be launching a special video on how we paint silicone coming out this next week...also we do show how we paint it in one of the 3 videos in the seat restoring video series we suggest you watch all 3 of them before attempting this awesome process thanks Mike SPC
@@SweetProjectCars In this video you don't show the technique of mixing the silicone with the paint - it's going right over the cracks and holes in the seat. How are you doing this with just silicone reliably? Is the adhesion promoter a substitute for mixing paint and the permatex rtv silicone?
Does your G37 have perforated leather seats? My 2004 G35 Coupe does and I’m having trouble fixing them. Can you do the silicone and paint trick w/ perforated leather? Or, does anybody have other suggestions (premium seat covers? New leather? New seat?).
It does look fantastic, Darrin. I've got a pair of large wing chairs that I'm halfway done restoring. But I haven't put any filler on them yet. Seeing your comment got my attention. The way this very impressive video plays is 99% misleading. I wonder how many DIYers followed this video closely and then had all of their hard work go to waste. After reading your comment and the "answer" I looked for and saw the later video with a piece of cardboard and some blue spray-paint. They use a standard plastic bondo spreader and mix the paint and silicone adhesive together on the cardboard. When they did this original video, they don't mix the silicone with the paint. I don't know what the reasoning is behind this, but I'm looking at all of these people in the comments, excited to copy their methods who have failed because of some big time quackery. I learn how to do a bunch of stuff on RUclips following the instructions of a bunch of people who are professionals, or DIY'ers who learned the hard way. I've saved hundreds of dollars fixing my own car, building a saw-buck, learning tips on selling stuff online, none of those videos mislead me. But this video...Maybe they like to giggle around the campfire at all the suckers who bought the oh-so-specific products, but failed miserably. I know that I will avoid these guys' videos like the plague. I want to tell you, Darrin, that I appreciate that you took the time to ask why the Emperor has no clothes. Big ups.
That seat was looking gorgeous at the end! Very nice! Sadly, I have a gaping hole in my seat, so I don't know if I'll be able to "fix" mine. But I'm gonna try!
Well, I just subscribed after watching this video. I have a few cars that need a little love, and this is a process I will be trying soon. Looking forward to watching more of your videos.
Hi Mike, Long time fan of your channel and tutorials. Question...after the silicone repair and repaint, is it still possible to treat the leather with conditioning creams or will it have an adverse affect on the paint and silicone?
do one for cloth seats. I wore away the edge of my drivers seat getting in and out. and the edge seam wore out and now I'm basically chewing up the foam underneath every day

Thank you Shawn we truly appreciate that have a great day Mike sweet project cars
I gave up...since I kept drinking the alcohol before I could apply it to the seat.....
Luka Dragunov ya that could slow your progress for sure :)
hahahahahaha
No, you died! That's DENATURED alcohol.
Lol, lucky that he didn't use beer though. If he does beer, i give up right now.
Killing me... Whoolarious!
Just found this and tried it on an old motorcycle seat. Worked like a charm! Youve got a sub bud!
Good deal glad we could help glad to have you with us
Damn this is good. I see so many people throwing away their leather sofas. This guys can rescue them with his magic touch. Thank you.

Will this method work on boat vinyl and seats. No Rips or tears, just fade and ugliness. It's a 1985 Boat.
It sure does! Thanks for watching, have a great day my friend. mad Mike the hammer SPC
I’m so glad I saw this video. My king ranch leather is about to look brand new 🙂
This is badass!! I have all the materials on hand (I have a huge crafting habit). I know the 100% silicone is a little smelly, but it would be so worth it to repair the leather in a car I just got. Thanks man!! 👏♥️
Holly crap dude! You are a freaking genius at this. I am trying this crap on my car. Hopefully, I can get half as good a result! Thank you for sharing this!
You can do it Evelio! Just make sure you use the exact same products/tools we use and follow the video as shown, you will love the results my friend. Thanks for watching and sharing, have a great weekend. mad Mike the hammer SPC
great job ... I also do these jobs in Italy and you get wonderful results .... American leather is difficult to paint due to the high content of silicone that makes the skin shiny ... we prefer skin from us opaque ... still good work
That was great to see you do your magic ! - Explained well as your were - Bringing this seat back to life ! -Thankyou !
Our pleasure! Thanks for the comment and for being here with us! Have a great day my friend. mad Mike the hammer SPC
that's amazing. I don't currently have a need for this but, I'm glad I watched it. You have done amazing work.
Thank you very much! Thanks for being here with us, we really appreciate it! Have a great day. mad Mike the hammer SPC
Damn that really makes me wanna do that to the seats in my car mine are in pretty good condition for being 10 years old but still wouldn’t mind them looking brand new like that
Excellent, cheap, and easy fix! I’ll be getting a lot more money on trade now!
I have a '07 Acura TL I just bought Monday. Its half taken apart right now but after I get it back together I need to focus on the rips in the leather seats! Thanks for this video! I am hoping I can fix then to atleast prevent them from getting worse!
ashley it will be a great project for you thats for sure thanks for sharing mike
That transition in the beginning about the materials was mad funny
LOL, thanks for watching Alexis, we appreciate it. Hope you have a great weekend. mad Mike the hammer SPC
“Julio, tell them where this stuff can be found”. 😂😂😂
Great job I am a car smart repairer and thinking of doing a leather refurb course this job looks amazing thanks for sharing 👌🏿👍🏿

This is insane, this really gives me hope for keeping my interior nice
You can do it! Glad we could help! Thanks for watching and sharing, hope you have a great day. mad Mike & team
Very thoughtful of you to share your secret of the pros. I'm going to try the silicone trick and I can't wait! Thank you so much!
How the hell did I end up watching this? I’m glad I did. Great work!
Thanks for your post. I resprayed my wife's Toyota Camry. Seats look brand new.
good deal glad to hear that
I custom paint leather shoes, I think acetone works best for prep work but if it works with what you use, can't really complain 🤷
i dnt even hav leather in my car, or even own a car acctually i hav school tomorow morning and im up watching this
Idiot
Maybe your subconscious mind wanted to find ways to make money? Side-hustle in the weekend!
Kick ass process, looking forward to getting rid of the little rips and tears on my harley davidson f-150,great instructions on achieving a new looking pair of seats. Thanks👍👽
Glad you liked it, Joseph! Thank you so much for watching and sharing, we really appreciate it, have a great day and all the best on your project my friend. mad Mike the hammer SPC
Sweet Project Cars,
Thank you for sharing this video, your experience is priceless.
You, sir, are a magician.
Wow a cheaper alternative to expensive seat leather replacement for seats .. with possible lasting results that looks like new very impressed ... This guy would be on business forever .... All the cars on the road ... Needing help with damages seats
Absolutely. They don't make them to last do they. Glad to have you here with us. Have a great weekend. mad Mike the hammer SPC
THE ONLY LEATHER REPAIR VIDEO YOU'LL EVER NEED
Agreed! We've done this hundreds of times for customers, it's amazing. Thank you for watching and for the comment Cecilia, we really appreciate it, have a great week my friend. mad Mike the hammer SPC
That looks fantastic. I need to do this to the driver's seat of my 1996 Mustang GT.
I think I could use this concept on repairing cracks in my dash and using vinyl spray paint
How does it look for dash cracks?
That LVP is amazing stuff. I’ve touched up my BMW black seats with it and it’s holding up very well and doesn’t look unmatched at all.
Shane Sexton did you use Ford Black or BMW Charcoal for your seats? I have 2002 black BMW seats also. Great video
BobinBC I used BMW black 258, I only touched up areas with a q tip and it’s blending perfectly. I also painted a dash trim piece that was peeling. So close to perfect match.
Who in hell have this thumbs down? This was an amazing job...
Thank you very much my friend we truly appreciate that it’s usually the competition out there that do car videos that gives the thumbs down I don’t know why we can’t just all get along LOL
@@SweetProjectCars Great job, don't worry about the haters. Haters gonna hate. lol
Well it discovered that the guy who was “called out” for lack of a better term , was the one behind the robo thumbs down.
orlando B you are exactly correct my friend
Who gives this thumbs down?
Reupholsterers?
Damn good video! 👍
drumtwo4seven thank you very much my friend,
Haha no, we know that leather doesn’t have much time till you need a more professional ;)
jason9022 not all leather is dyed...it is only dyed on the higher end cars but like on the equinox and lower end cars it is painted at the manufacture
I didn’t even need to do this project yet I watched the entire video. Well done sir.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching and sharing Brandon, we really appreciate it! Have a fantastic day my friend. mad Mike the hammer SPC
Jim
Jim EC we use the black on darker seating works well...thanks for asking
Wow...it looks brand new ! Well done !
Thank you! Cheers! Glad you liked it. Thanks for watching. Have a great day my friend. mad Mike the hammer SPC
@@SweetProjectCars thank you !;) same to you ! Keep it up !;)
Quick question! I am a Paint Contractor, I know from experience that paint does not stick to silicone. Is that siliconized caulking that you used? Siliconized is a paintable caulk. Just curious because my wife's Lexus seats need some attention. Thanks!
Fay Turman for this to work you need to use the exact tools and methods shown see this for all the tools and exact products they are in the "SHOWMORE" of the video description if you look Here photos.app.goo.gl/4fbqwpXC3Koqsv8o7 for a desktop computer or here photos.app.goo.gl/dY6Wz16qnroYHDsK6 for a cell phone, you will find all the tools and products my friend :)

they go to google pics...showing where the SHOW MORE is located on the youtube platform
Unbelievable repair you did this man! Excellent work
Very much my friend we truly appreciate that
I hate leather seats because of the cracking, if I was still into them I'd definitely would do this. Great to learn something new!
Glad you liked it Saga One! Thank you for watching and sharing, have a great day. mad Mike the hammer SPC
If they're properly maintained with something like Leatherique, you won't have to worry about the cracking. Also, this method shown here is doing absolutely nothing for the health of the leather, and will prevent actual conditioning in the future. If you actually care about the condition of your leather, do it right. Check into Leatherique.
You do excellent work Mike! Thank you so much for helping us all with your great ideas and videos.
Good deal glad we could help always a pleasure thanks for being here with us mad Mike sweet project cars
this looks just too amazing. im really sceptical if te silicon will last. can u show us a video when u sit on or rub on it? great video btw.
Wintermute vs Neuromancer don't be skeptical my friend, just give it a try and when you do make sure you see all 3 videos in the series you will be amazed at the results :)
great videos for a guy like me who buys cars cleans and repair to flip!! thanks alot !!
Glad to help! You've got to watch our new series we just started, we are going to show you exactly how to buy low and sell high :) Thanks for watching, here's the first video in the series ruclips.net/video/aX6G5FHKtzM/видео.html Have a great week my friend. mad Mike & team
I need to try this on my Lexus
Dude, what was, the product ,you used ,after the 99 %,then, leather prep.,I am, ready to try this on blk. Town Car seats.
I just needed a cover for the driver's seat alone. Not the back. So I took an outdoor chair cushion I had that was thin enough and sewed ties to the back corners. Tied the ties together around the seat in the back. Works perfect.
Way to be creative!! We love that! Thank you for watching and sharing, we really appreciate the ideas, have a fantastic day my friend. mad Mike
Use this after cleaning amzn.to/2AVv11Q Thanks for asking. Great job! mad Mike the hammer SPC
@@SweetProjectCars thankyou cheers
Youre simple man, and very patient, nice work, respect!
Thank you very much, we truly appreciate your kind words. Have a great day! mad Mike the hammer SPC
Love the video!
I have a concern maybe you can address:
I was in painting/waterproofing 20+ years.
But I'm gonna try!
give us an update, boy
Have you tried filling it with Maruchan and crazy glue??

Well, I just subscribed after watching this video. I have a few cars that need a little love, and this is a process I will be trying soon. Looking forward to watching more of your videos.

Hi Mike,
Long time fan of your channel and tutorials. Question...after the silicone repair and repaint, is it still possible to treat the leather with conditioning creams or will it have an adverse affect on the paint and silicone?
D
Unfortunately I'm too dumb to do any of this. On the bright side I can just afford a new seat.
All your trade tricks are gold!

do one for cloth seats. I wore away the edge of my drivers seat getting in and out. and the edge seam wore out and now I'm basically chewing up the foam underneath every day
We will see what we can do for you on that my dear Friend
