Lyrics:
You just slip out the back, Jack
Make a new plan, Stan
You don't need to be coy, Roy
Just get yourself free
Hop on the bus, Gus
You don't need to discuss much
Just drop off the key, Lee
And get yourself free
Ooh, slip out the back, Jack
Make a new plan, Stan
You don't need to be coy, Roy
Just listen to me
Hop on the bus, Gus
You don't need to discuss much
Just drop off the key, Lee
And get yourself free

one of the best songs of all time.
The man is unbelievable!
I’ve never heard the organ being played that well.
I thought it was Donald Fagen at first glance.
Paul's the best song writer since Bob Dylan.
Every time I hear this (and I make sure it happens a lot), I have this wtf feeling. How come he could come up with this? But then I always remember, it's Paul Simon, the one and only, we are talking about. He already had a more than great drum intro, then an amazing chord progression combined with his excellent voice and lyrics and then add to this a huge twist (a shift from minor to major). It's not often that I can witness such awesomeness, musical excellence, and even less so in a song. Now that's exactly what he did. This song always reminds me why it's important to keep an open mind about music and to know your roots. Thank you Paul for this.
Yeah those chord changes in the verses were always a challenge for me to identify before RUclips. They were just amazing to me. Now that RUclips is hear I'm even more amazed.
I see Paul Simon completely different as an adult!!! 😍
"Just tell her you're gay ray" he missed a great additional lyric there lol, Paul Simon's music still holds up to this day! My music producer friend introduced me to the Graceland album when we were 16 and I've been hooked ever since, Such good memories hanging out in his basement blasting Paul Simon. I wanna throw my friend some love as we've been through a lot together try searching Lonely Gimmick - Beaches, it's his latest single and it gives me Paul Simon vibes, I'm honestly so impressed with it, its one of those songs that makes you happy when you listen to it
he also probably could've used
JUST LAY OFF THE SAUCE BOSS
YOU DON'T NEED TO GET FUCKED CHUUUUCK
What???!!! I really remember this song . A masterpiece .STOP Dissecting it , “this and that”!!! This performance was PERFECT👍👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌
Rhymin' Simon is a treasure
Great job on the drums without Steve Gadd playing his classic groove. Wow--that was awesome
I remember this from high school! I'm gonna leave it out back, Jack!
!
So smooth how the players keeps playing the chorus at 3:50 instead of the outro - fantastic band
I thought the same thing. Actually, the drummer was starting to play the outro then changed up when Paul started up the chorus again. I think he called an audible but it came off fine.
Paul ANOTHER MASTERPIECE
I’m just rediscovering your music and I just keep wanting more I think your brilliant much love ❤️
Some awesome live music right there !
Loved this song as s kid.
Watching this video immediately after finding his performance from ‘82...
No loss in vocal quality 😱😳🔥
Congrats to Paul for investing in his voice 👏🏼
That's really not true. And honestly I find it a bit absurd to expect any Singer to magically keep their great voice for all their life. That's really not how it works, what can be said is that Paul Simon's Guitar Playing is still on point though.
@@JustiaFiat He definitely sounds older, but in no way does he sound bad...
I saw Bob Dylan 2004... he didn't even make an effort to sing or even look at the crowd.
@@ShindlersFiist i had a History of Rock n Roll class in college and the teacher was a huge Dylan fan. He saw him 16 times in his life, and he said by the end he'd have to leave halfway through the show
Yeah!
Good old music by the great Paul Simon yeah
Awesome
still love your music
The master plying his craft
Paul Simon is DA Best!

Best song for ever great
Dude, Paul Simon responded to your comment!!!
I always loved that song.
La batería es una joya ♥️🔥👏👏👏
who freakin' thumbs down this stuff. I mean, seriously?
Obviously some a-hole who has absolutely no taste in great music.
Parabéns cada som melhor que o outro eu piro nas músicas deste cara 👏👏👏👏
Thx...
everything is perfect in this song the chord progression to the drums
Bu sevgi-Bu saygı- Bu ziyafet... Yıllarını müziğe adamış onurlu sanatçı... Çok teşekkürler....
From a fan in sweden. You are the best ❤️ I
QUEL TALENT !!!!! J'ai envie de pleurer j'aurai rêvé de les voir en concert 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
I have dreamed of that too!
Well done❤❤❤❤❤
HUGE hit in the 70s and my friends & I memorized it which was tough to do. Something w the words changing slightly in the chorus. Can’t really remember. I like this jazzy live version.
A masterpiece! Absolutely impressive as always. And this arrangement, just wow
Wow!! What an awesome job the drummer did! Steve gadd would probably approve 100 % ! Did him proud! Very, very nice! He must feel great performing that well at this level! Well done brother 🥁😎
Except the part where he went into the outro pattern instead of the last chorus. 😂
...this song is sadder than I realized...as a youth, I only have memories of the choruses...but, after hearing the verses - this song, literally, made my eyes water
This is so perfect!
Except where the drummer went into the outro pattern instead of the last chorus. 😂
Haha! You're right!@@halffulltome 🤣🤣
Paul at his Best Great Back up Band
Admired you for years. Dangling conversation shaped my poetic destiny.
This Groooove is so groovy... Steve Gadd, amazing. Thank you
You're talking my language. FarOut Man!
Way too cool for school xxx
It is sad to think that people believe that only the drummer made this song. Anybody can play the drums it's not that hard. But the talent takes in writing the music and singing it. I've noticed all through my life when Paul Simon had his own separate career they couldn't give him credit for anything they always got to give credit to somebody else in the group he's playing with at the time. Give credit where credit's due Paul Simon was a musical genius.
"Anybody can play the drums it's not that hard".
Congrats on the dumbest comment I've read this week.
That may be true...but not like Steve Gadd...😊
Steve Gadd is responsible for putting the energy into this track.. the story is out there of his participation and how he turned this whole thing around.. not everybody can add the magic and Steve has proved that time and time again
Wish I had been at the concert 😢
Just like that!!!!😎😎😎
I love this song . Thank you , Paul. But way 50 ways. Why should there be one if they are decent!
Fly out of the way, Ray. Missed that.
Paul Simon = never ending songs
Always reminded me of a sleepover at my White friend's home (I'm Black by the way) where we shared a bedroom and sang along to AM radio all night. Then in the daytime I wore her older sister's clothes and we rode bikes around town dressed like twins. We rode to the police station to get license plates for the bicycles like you had to do back then. We were like sisters and had so much fun every time!!! 50 ways was like a rock Dr. Suess song, and we couldn't get enough. Memories!

50 ways to love your leaver!
Stan
The problem is all inside your head, she said to me
The answer is easy if you take it logically
I'd like to help you in your struggle to be free
There must be fifty ways to leave your lover
She said, it's really not my habit to intrude
Furthermore, I hope my meaning won't be lost or misconstrued
But I'll repeat myself at the risk of being crude
There must be fifty ways to leave your lover
Fifty ways to leave your lover
You just slip out the back, Jack
Make a new plan, Stan
You don't need to be coy, Roy
Just get yourself free
Hop on the bus, Gus
You don't need to discuss much
Just drop off the key, Lee
And get yourself free
Ooh, slip out the back, Jack
Make a new plan, Stan
You don't need to be coy, Roy
You just listen to me
Hop on the bus, Gus
You don't need to discuss much
Just drop off the key, Lee
And get yourself free
She said it grieves me so to see you in such pain
I wish there was something I could do to make you smile again
I said I appreciate that and would you please explain
About the fifty ways
She said, why don't we both just sleep on it tonight?
And I believe in the morning you'll begin to see the light
And then she kissed me and I realized she probably was right
There must be fifty ways to leave your lover
Fifty ways to leave your lover
You just slip out the back, Jack
Make a new plan, Stan
You don't need to be coy, Roy
Just get yourself free
Oh, you hop on the bus, Gus
You don't need to discuss much
Just drop off the key, Lee
And get yourself free
Slip out the back, Jack
Make a new plan, Stan
You don't need to be coy, Roy
You just listen to me
Hop on the bus, Gus
You don't need to discuss much
Just drop off the key, Lee
And get yourself free
Thank you for the lyrics. I started the video over just a sing along with Paul. Thanks 😊.
And I believe in the morning you'll begin to see the light
Then the people bowed and prayed to the neon god they made
And the sign flashed out its WAR ning
With the words that it was FOR ME ng
I'm just one more scribble on the sub stream walls.
@@haroldconner6265 50 ways to play (or to escape) the Andalusia Cadence.
Just go to the IV - V - I -- like the other guys on the bus.
It's really quite clever - like Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah.
The lyrics describe the chord variations he plays.
Number.
3:47 Sounds like the band wanted to quit early! Look at Paul pointing at them to keep going at 3:50!
Well the band stayed together. Sounds more like Paul decided to throw in an extra surprise chorus.
It always amazes me how musicians stay in sync w each other. There’s no sheet music or conductor yet they just do it.
I think it was supposed to end there and Paul changed his mind. Took a while to the drummer to perceive that (and a lot of gestures from Paul), but the bassist didn't lost a second.
@@Asmuk all in the flow
Drummer went back into the Gadd section too early
One of greatest songwriters in history of mankind ...the Jewish people intelligent? ...yes they are ...it's okay to be intelligent ...and cool too 🎤🎶🎸🎺 ...the drumroll is ice-ning, on the cake 🎂
@Paul Frederic Simon very welcome ...my love & respect for you & your art, is immeasurable ...very grateful Paul 👨 🎶🎤🎺🎸
@Paul Frederic Simon grateful ...✌

Drummer absolutely scuffed the groove on this one
Ia that Jerry Rivera playing the trumpet?
Get Yourself Free!
I think the drummer did amazing playing this classic Steve Gadd song. You can tell he might have been the sub drummer or on the first gig of their tour because of the slight mistake at 3:42 but the recovery was flawless and most people missed it completely! Does anyone know who the drummer was because I really enjoyed his take on this song! 👍🏻🥁
Jim Oblon!
I don't think it was a mistake. It seemed to me that Paul decided to improvise one last chorus before ending the song. If you listen closely, the whole band changes dynamic, as if the song was really about to end. Based on this performance alone, I think it was a last minute decision. But I would have to listen to other performances from this same tour to be sure.
But you're right, Steve Gadd has huge shoes to fill, and Jim nailed it.
I love this track so much. Nothing will ever beat it, but, I would really love to hear a cover of it by jamiroquai or sting just for fun, you know, just to see how it would turn out.
Or even dave matthews?
Gestal Couples Therapy can show you ways to make it work !
What’s that?
I hate this song with a passion!!!! I was in junior high when this song came out. My name is Gus. Can you imagine how many times I heard , “hop on the bus, Gus” after the bell rang and I was walking past the line of school buses to get to my bus?
Dieses Lied ist ein Art der und auch Geistern
Much like the Beatles melded then tore apart genre conventions (blues, rock n roll, psychedelia) and laid the groundwork for the birth of metal and AOR, Paul effortlessly blends folk and rock'n'roll with gospel and minstrelesque balladeering and is the model SINGER SONGWRITER to which every modern representative can trace their lineage. As important as Bob Dylan? Perhaps not, but almost unbelievably consistent over more than fifty years and able to experiment with form and expression without ever tipping over into 'artsy nonsense' and with an incredible arsenal of songs that are both eternally listenable and utterly relatable.
He wrote a song about a comet that makes me cry, and the single best song ever written about a type of celluloid. That's genius.
To avoid ambiguity, I am saying he's better than Dylan.... come at me (politely).
Edit: I forgot to mention Reggae, and Isicathamiya/Mbube among Paul's influences. Ironic, given this show.
‘Down Under’ is very similar 🦘
my ears are looking for to hear STEVE GADD in this song... Who are with me... Hope on the bus gus..
This is one of those song where the message of the song is lost to the rhythm.
Played my drum set to it 10/10

I'd liké to do liké this concert in m'y vêlage Ouarzazate because liké Paul Simone thiri'snt a loot.

Love the song but less is more IMO as the horns sound obtrusive at times but ok behind the keys.

The guy calling for an extra chorus and the band accomplishing readily enough.....
Hey Paul, I figured out supercalifragalisticexpealadocious, it means Not in California. God said you are forehead number 52, with a past life of Simon Peter. Love from Mendocino California Thanks
OO. My mom in late 70s Put that record on. I listened! I thought should try a new bus? Hmm Gus? Hey I have left lovers. Never anyway he said,
now why is it from the first sound of the snare you know that’s not Stevie Gadd?
Go listen to the drummer in this video play guitar. (Jim Oblon) One of the best guitars alive today....
@@jasondarling what a moron you are. that’s like saying the guy flying his plane is a rotten pilot but he’s a hell of a carpenter.
@@sammysouth8372 You don't need to be insulting. The guy is also a hell of a drummer. He's playing the groove differently than Steve Gadd, so of course you can tell it's a different guy. It doesn't matter that he's not Steve Gadd. He played this song great, and the drums aren't even his primary instrument.
@@kevinconnor6035 insulting? that’s not insulting. if i called him a shitbag son of a pig now that would be insulting. but that, that’s just saying he’s not steve gadd. so go on get lost.

I was at the Hyde Park concert in 2018 and this isn't it. No banner over the stage and Paul wore a red tee shirt throughout.
If you look at the top of the stage, it says 2012
The issue with this track is that you do need Steve Gadd on drums
Even Paul Simon disagrees.

Aloha Paul Simon. Your old friend Capt Stan!
In the Fall of 2013, I would be Homeless in Duluth Minnesota. Sad, depressed and throw out by my partner and his Mother I would go to Duluth to save my Nephew from $175K in PAYROLL TAXES. I am Gay and they threw me out! Officer Kelly Hanna of the fine Duluth Police Department would respond to a call and find me. After I explained my actions he would caution me not to stand in front of moving traffic. He would then start singing 50 Ways To Leave Your Lover! I missed you recently at the Greek Theatre! I MUST see you perform AFTER the Pandemic which should be done by JULY 2021!!!
