    Lyrics:
You just slip out the back, Jack
    Make a new plan, Stan
You don't need to be coy, Roy
    Just get yourself free
    Hop on the bus, Gus
You don't need to discuss much
Just drop off the key, Lee
    And get yourself free
Ooh, slip out the back, Jack
    Make a new plan, Stan
You don't need to be coy, Roy
    Just listen to me
    Hop on the bus, Gus
You don't need to discuss much
Just drop off the key, Lee
    And get yourself free

Every time I hear this (and I make sure it happens a lot), I have this wtf feeling. How come he could come up with this? But then I always remember, it's Paul Simon, the one and only, we are talking about. He already had a more than great drum intro, then an amazing chord progression combined with his excellent voice and lyrics and then add to this a huge twist (a shift from minor to major). It's not often that I can witness such awesomeness, musical excellence, and even less so in a song. Now that's exactly what he did. This song always reminds me why it's important to keep an open mind about music and to know your roots. Thank you Paul for this.

"Just tell her you're gay ray" he missed a great additional lyric there lol, Paul Simon's music still holds up to this day! My music producer friend introduced me to the Graceland album when we were 16 and I've been hooked ever since, Such good memories hanging out in his basement blasting Paul Simon. I wanna throw my friend some love as we've been through a lot together try searching Lonely Gimmick - Beaches, it's his latest single and it gives me Paul Simon vibes, I'm honestly so impressed with it, its one of those songs that makes you happy when you listen to it

It is sad to think that people believe that only the drummer made this song. Anybody can play the drums it's not that hard. But the talent takes in writing the music and singing it. I've noticed all through my life when Paul Simon had his own separate career they couldn't give him credit for anything they always got to give credit to somebody else in the group he's playing with at the time. Give credit where credit's due Paul Simon was a musical genius.

The problem is all inside your head, she said to me
The answer is easy if you take it logically
I'd like to help you in your struggle to be free
There must be fifty ways to leave your lover
She said, it's really not my habit to intrude
Furthermore, I hope my meaning won't be lost or misconstrued
But I'll repeat myself at the risk of being crude
There must be fifty ways to leave your lover
Fifty ways to leave your lover
You just slip out the back, Jack
    Make a new plan, Stan
You don't need to be coy, Roy
    Just get yourself free
    Hop on the bus, Gus
You don't need to discuss much
Just drop off the key, Lee
    And get yourself free
Ooh, slip out the back, Jack
    Make a new plan, Stan
You don't need to be coy, Roy
    You just listen to me
    Hop on the bus, Gus
You don't need to discuss much
Just drop off the key, Lee
    And get yourself free
She said it grieves me so to see you in such pain
I wish there was something I could do to make you smile again
I said I appreciate that and would you please explain
    About the fifty ways
She said, why don't we both just sleep on it tonight?
And I believe in the morning you'll begin to see the light
And then she kissed me and I realized she probably was right
There must be fifty ways to leave your lover
Fifty ways to leave your lover
You just slip out the back, Jack
    Make a new plan, Stan
You don't need to be coy, Roy
    Just get yourself free
Oh, you hop on the bus, Gus
You don't need to discuss much
Just drop off the key, Lee
    And get yourself free
    Slip out the back, Jack
    Make a new plan, Stan
You don't need to be coy, Roy

I don't think it was a mistake. It seemed to me that Paul decided to improvise one last chorus before ending the song. If you listen closely, the whole band changes dynamic, as if the song was really about to end. Based on this performance alone, I think it was a last minute decision. But I would have to listen to other performances from this same tour to be sure.
But you're right, Steve Gadd has huge shoes to fill, and Jim nailed it.

Much like the Beatles melded then tore apart genre conventions (blues, rock n roll, psychedelia) and laid the groundwork for the birth of metal and AOR, Paul effortlessly blends folk and rock'n'roll with gospel and minstrelesque balladeering and is the model SINGER SONGWRITER to which every modern representative can trace their lineage. As important as Bob Dylan? Perhaps not, but almost unbelievably consistent over more than fifty years and able to experiment with form and expression without ever tipping over into 'artsy nonsense' and with an incredible arsenal of songs that are both eternally listenable and utterly relatable.
He wrote a song about a comet that makes me cry, and the single best song ever written about a type of celluloid. That's genius.
To avoid ambiguity, I am saying he's better than Dylan.... come at me (politely).
Edit: I forgot to mention Reggae, and Isicathamiya/Mbube among Paul's influences. Ironic, given this show.

@@sammysouth8372 You don't need to be insulting. The guy is also a hell of a drummer. He's playing the groove differently than Steve Gadd, so of course you can tell it's a different guy. It doesn't matter that he's not Steve Gadd. He played this song great, and the drums aren't even his primary instrument.

Aloha Paul Simon. Your old friend Capt Stan!
In the Fall of 2013, I would be Homeless in Duluth Minnesota. Sad, depressed and throw out by my partner and his Mother I would go to Duluth to save my Nephew from $175K in PAYROLL TAXES. I am Gay and they threw me out! Officer Kelly Hanna of the fine Duluth Police Department would respond to a call and find me. After I explained my actions he would caution me not to stand in front of moving traffic. He would then start singing 50 Ways To Leave Your Lover! I missed you recently at the Greek Theatre! I MUST see you perform AFTER the Pandemic which should be done by JULY 2021!!!
