#PaulSimon #YouCanCallMeAl #Live
Chorus:
If you'll be my bodyguard
I can be your long lost pal
I can call you Betty
And Betty, when you call me, you can call me Al - Видеоклипы
Camera guy don't care about a bass player even this is one of the hardest bass lines ever. Respect to a bass player!
It didnt sound good here it was way to quiet
For a brief moment in time people from all walks of life came together.
When the crowd sings your arrangement………you know you’ve reached god status 🤘🤘
Why didn't he tell the band to be quiet during this part
That badass bass riff is the cherry on top. I still wait for it every time I hear it playing on the radio. Everytime.
3:43
Is he the same bloke from 1987 concert ?
@@vkirisome4701, yes, it's the same guy: Bakithi (BK) Kumalo. Most of the band here is the Graceland band.
@@vkirisome4701 yes! Balkithi and the rest of the OG band are absolutely amazing. So glad they were all here for this.
Not just this song, but also Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes and Graceland -- Bakithi is the backbone of the whole album. He's the perfect accompaniment and counterpoint for Paul's sense of rhythm and the bridge to Black Mombazo. But in all these Hyde Park videos, for some reason, Bakithi gets about five seconds of screen time, total.
all the happy South Africans in the crowd make me happy!
Legendary: There never has been another Paul Simon, isn't and never will be
Sky Of The Universe thank god for that
❤
Hell no
That band is insane. So cool to see kids on parents shoulders. The energy in that crowd is so awesome
I was there, with my daughter, my sister and 2 great friends , also from SA - the energy in the crowd was unbelievable - the cheers when Ladysmith Black Mambazo came onto the stage and then Hugh Masekela as well - it was just a once in a lifetime moment - 10's of thousands of people walking home through Hyde Park singing " Nah nanana Nah nanana NAH ! unforgettable
No surprise there. He has excellent taste in musicians.
What a happy evening for everyone. Great piece.
RIP Ray Phiri
If you’re picked by Paul Simon to play om a tour you probably an insane musician:) Englishmen aren’t exactly known for being quiet at big music events;)
God look at all these people just LIVING. Man, this is what humanity is for. This right here.
All walks of life too; young old etc etc, not worry aboot Chevy! IT"S PAUL SIMON!!!
Hyde Park is great, so lively even on a regular old day too!
Fucking wish covid would fuck off x
What a great comment - this says it all.
Humanity is not for that. Humanity doesn't have a purpose
I'm a Proudly South African 🇿🇦 thank you Paul Simon for introducing South African music and culture to the world back in the days.
He got massive criticism for that, which was ridiculously unfair...he wanted to bring opportunities to African musicians. Instead, he was accused of supporting apartheid. Ridiculous
This is one of those moments you save it in your heart, that's why there are no cellphones on sight
When music gathers everybody……Please, call me Al !
It puts joy in my heart to see this many people united with the language of music. It never needs translation and it speaks to all of mankind.
Amen to that...my Daddy use to say the same thing...he was lover of music, but his favorite was blues, and he must have had every song Lightnin' Hopkins and B.B. King every sang & played. I come from a very long line of music lovers, singers, writers & musicians... we're spread out in Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas and Tennessee...I love my heritage♡
@@jacquelynbennett7177
Fellow music lover here too. My favorite group? Pat Metheny Group. Even got to meet them in person, all by my lonesome when they stayed in the same hotel I stayed in after one of their concerts. The entire group was in the hotel bar by themselves, until I walked in. 😁

Well said.
When this song came out in the 80,s it was a sensation. 40 years later it still is . I thank God for this music.
I wasn't born then but I've come to love it.... This is music❤️
It’s like there is angels in the architecture or something
@@CherryGraden211 I remember when it came out, and I bought "Graceland" right away. God, it was wonderful to listen to it on my record player! And when I made a cassette and played it in my far, oh, my . . .
I could never date a girl who didn't understand why I had to stay in the car listening to the song until the bass solo was over
Wow, simply wow. This man is almost 80 and his voice sounds like in the 80's. Really great Paul Simon!
Well, that was almost 9 years ago, but still...
I agree !!! He sounds great . And great comment !!!!
@@monstermirror2 still in his 70s very impressive sounds basically the same as the 80s.
My man remin' Simon.
I didn't know he was that old crazy! Lol just shows how i pay attention how oid im getting myself
The bassists is an authentic musical gift.
and add the guitar player....and boy what a gift...and the horns....
The reaction of the all-ages crowd is just beautiful!!!
It looks weird having him singing, not standing there looking dejected while Chevy Chase sings
Literally!
Right?!? 😂🩷
100%
Art was an incredible vocalist. Paul Simon is definitely a performer, sometimes in life you need to go your own way.
❤❤❤❤❤❤
I just love how the audience sings along so that they can be connected with Paul and he stops singing and lets them carry the rest of it alone.
I just, and only think, that this is an obvious and cliche statement
I was in a long distance relationship with my now husband for 4 years, every time I had to drop him off at the train station I'd listen to this song because it was the only thing that would keep me from crying. We walked back up the aisle to it at our wedding last year. Thank you for making such beautiful music, you've made such a positive difference in my life
Warmed my heart. Goosebumps rather.
"Amen - hallelujah." 🎵
Thats so lovely
Awwww this is so cute 💜
If I was an artist and in my resumé I could have had this series, concerts in Hyde park, I would gladly go back to God!
Paul amazing song about his revelation of going to South Africa and claims back his relevance as a human.
I had no idea that was what it was about
He ALWAYS has had relevance as a human being!
I was there with my family! It was out of this world. And we were all singing along in the crowd!!! One of the hottest days ever. Will never forget it. ❤🎶
❤
3:43 he slapped the hell outta that bass
The original recording's bass fill was a reversed recording, so this was a very good approximation how it could be played live.
@@OnKeyboards Some said "it couldn't be played that way, it's a studio recording trick" Bakithi Kumalo: *hold my beer*
@@binarydredd Bakithi is DA MAN! Thanks for giving him a shout-out!
And he's playing fretless. It's considerably harder to get the slap sound on those.
Bra Hugh Masekela, Bra Isaac Mtshali, Bra Ray Phiri, Bra Bakithi Khumalo and others......so many legends in one band🥵
Psul Simon love your music brings tears to my eyes. Praise God. With Africa . April 14 2024.
May 17 2024..❤❤❤❤
I always imagine myself flying a classic stainless steel beechcraft model 18 seaplane and wearing boat shoes, tropical shorts, and a magnum p.i type shirt with this playing on a classic boom box playing it on a cassette, turning it up before getting out and dancing to my sea bungalow hahahaha
For more than 50 years, this wonderful artist has been building musical taste for generations...!
I am happy when I see so many young people in the audience...🤩
Paul went from still young looking in the 80s 90s, to that cool old New Yorker dude in the 2010s. In a way I feel like his current look fits his storytelling songs even better, lol
That’s one hell of a performance not just Paul but the whole band was awesome
Not to mention the audience!
That was the most rowdy sing along of the horns part😂
This gives me goosebumps, tears to my eyes, need to jump around singing and pure joy.
Shit I felt the exact same. And I'm playing Bakithi Kumalo's killer bass line break over and over 🎸
Simon is a legend. Like Bob Zimmerman.
You too? 😀...me? I'm just cutting onions..I aint really in tears of joy at this masterpiece
Paul Simon still hitting it. That song isn't easy....lots of nuances. His voice is strong and his diction sharp.
He's lip-syncing from a recording of Chevy Chase
I sing this at our local pub on Friday night karaoke
It’s downright hard. It’s not like normal singing…it’s like talking with rhythm.
@@MrNictaxlord AGREE. Seems that Paul Simon, Art Garfunkle, and Chevy Chase are the only ones who do it professionally.
the musicians are fire
That bass player acted as if his whole life was leading up to 3:43
There’s bass, and then there’s this bass. Extraordinary, thank you!!
It's African style bass. If you can get hold of local south African township music you will hear it a lot
I had the opportunity to attend a performance by Paul Simon in Taipei around 2013. Seeing the size of this crowd, I now realize how extremely lucky I was to be at the concert. There couldn’t have been more than 1,000 seats - every one of them taken.
1986 Great Woods, Graceland tour for me. If I am getting dates right, of course. Lol. We spent half the summer there seeing every band.
It doesn’t get much better than this.
Seeing this with all of the people in attendance singing along was absolutely beautiful and breathtaking… the 80’s baby!!
This has tears slipping this man’s face.
One of the baddest bass lines of all time. What a groove.
That 2-bar bass solo is like the drum fill in Phil Collins' "In The Air Tonight" - almost as famous as the song itself. Everyone knows it and loves it, and everyone always cheers every time it is played. As they should - it always sounds brilliant.
It's the other way round. Phil Colin's released his track yeasrs later.
Or years even.
Bakithi Kumalo baby! Give that man his due credit, incredible bass player - I got to jam with him and he's as classic as this bass riff
Well… In the end, it was admited that the bass solo was made in reverse, from a machine :)
Yeah Goosebumps
Paul Simon has made such an amazing contribution to music, entertainment and spreading the joy. Bless you, Brother
If you've got your kid on your shoulders and they know every word to this song...youre an epic parent in my book. Love to see the young folks getting down to something classic
I could haven't said it better!
Some of the most outrageously happy music ever...played by some the finest musicians ever assembled...and yet Bakithi Kumalo (fretless bass) manages to steal the show! Wow!
These are the vintage boys,Paul and company.Real old school.
My name IS Betty and this came out when I was little. My older sister had just married a guy named Al. Also this period of Paul Simon is so..... magnificent and unique unto itself.
Paul Simon is a genius. No matter his age, place or even reinventing the songs, the magic remains the same.
happy birthday living legend
2020 & still watching
from Ghana
Me too man, from the uk with love brother ✌
Same.. Ohio representing
"spinnin' in infinity". That be one bad ass line, mister.
This is good. Not just as a rating. It is a good that shows that maybe humans are worth existing.
Just maybe 😂
It’s really quite amazing!!
The entire band is at his disposal! As well as the crowd!!
What this means is that he’s a musical leader , as in a conductor (if you will) … but it’s in such a fun way ! Everybody present is getting full attention!!
This is MUSIC people!!!
And one of the greatest musicians of our time, I might add!!!
I sure hope concerts will not be a thing of the past. Nothing in the whole world like being at a good concert.
You are absolutely right!
Why would they go away, I saw a band at a bar a few weeks ago
and without vaccine please!
Fuck me I am about to cry, I want to be there so badly:)
❤️❤️❤️
Ich liebe Paul Simon und seine Musik Herzlichen Dank dafür meine Schwester liebte ihn auch ist leider gestorben vor 11Jahren😢😢😢❤❤❤❤ MO
I was at this gig and the place was absolutely rockin! Paul and the gang played their socks off and were clearly enjoying themselves. It was a real party and the crowd were amazing. We were even singing this on the tube train home...a memorable day indeed.
Angels spinning in infinity with joy and wonder at Gods hand of creativity on His children. Agreed, Paul, Amen and Hallelujah! So fun!!
OMG, That is so great! What a joy to see so many thousands of people just having good fun.
What an amazing live performance. That bass solo is still one of my favorite bits of music
Everytime I hear Kumalo I just want to throw my bass into the fireplace, but then I realize he's an inspiration!
This honestly might be the best song ever made
mmmm, Graceland. This. Then skip over to Leo Sayer "You make me feel like dancing". Not in the same zone, just the same feeling. 🤷🏼♀️🤸🏼♀️🤸🏼♀️🤸🏼♀️💃🏼
This song is never going to stop making me feel good about this world ❤️❤️
When you actually had to be a musician to make good music. There will never be anything like this again. We are blessed to have seen Paul in our lifetime.
My name is Betty & my friends name is AL. This song means alot to me .True Story !!! So yeah, Lovin this right now !!!!!
Cream del cream. The best musician ever!
This song and Paul Simon are like fine wine. Timeless, man! Absolutely, classically timeless!
Great live version, especially the brass hits. Forget synth, all that live instrumentation from the whole band; they slay it. Live perfomaces have their own energy, It’s different from a studio recording and more human.
Paul always has a slamming band.
Back when you needed true genius and talent to be successful.
A combination of great African muscians , jazz maestros, what a masterpiece , what a massive crowd going wild, this was one of their greatest moment witnessing one greatest band on earth,🙏
Listen to Paul Simon every night...wonderful therapy! What an incredible artist!
Yes indeed.
When music was fun!!!!
I love Paul Simon. A genius and a heartfelt guy of mine.... Xxxxx J Xxxxxxxx 🦊💕
I love how on the second chorus he stops singing and the crowd is singing on perfect pitch! God I would have loved to be in that crowd xxx
This has got to be the best recording of this song. It was lively & everyone knew the words to the song. Unbelievable magic when sung. This was when music was happiness!
Lucifer really lost out the day he was kicked out of heaven...! Heaven is still jamming... Call me Al💃😀 @50yrs old and I'm still dancing to this great energetic song! 🌹😘
Paul Simon: there won't be another like him.
I always love seeing people of all ages showing up to shows like this. Kids, teenagers, people who were born well before these songs were even written just having fun and join in on the whole experience. Music is timeless, it isn't limited to a specific timeframe or age group. It's there for anyone and everyone to enjoy.
PAUL SIMON is timeless. Amazing after all these years, from Simon & Garfunkel to Paul Simon on stage. ITs all GOOD!
One of the greatest songwriters that ever lived
Shoutout to my grandma for being my role model now she's in heaven looking down on me
Fan bloody tastic! Thank you to my Primary Teacher Mrs Ann Tyas of Our Lady of Sorrows Doncaster for giving me this gift… the gift to know this exceptional man, with an exceptional gift.
@Paul Frederic Simon your songs?
Music has no age and what better tribute in life for an artist like Paul Simon who, after so much time, is still singing your songs, legend
Listening to auto play while cleaning the house and ended up dancing with the broom and not getting a thing done...
Thank goodness Paul Simon and I were on the earth at the same time. What an amazing talent. And the band ain’t no slouches either.
thanks Paul your voice heal me is very powerful god bless u what ever u are amen
Not a single Prozac pill was needed by anyone in the crowd after that song. The serotonin flowed!
Brings tears of joy this song is so powerful.
The first time I heard this song was in 1987...HERE IT IS 2022 AND IM STILL JAMMIN HARD TO THE BEAT OF THIS TIMELESS SONG!!! I JUST MISS SEEING CHEVY CHASE SINGING WITH HIM IN THE FIRST VIDEO BACK IN THE DAY!!! BEST SONG HE EVER MADE!!!
God bless all
Bastards go to hell
That vibe in the crowd, this is South Africa for you, we really have something special in our country. So sad that we are being torn apart by factors that are making us lose this..
Mine and my dearly departed nan's favourite song. What a fantastic version. Thank you for being you Paul Simon, and huge props to the band for doing such a song justice.
Everytime I am overwhelmed with unbearable tribulations I come back to listen to the live versions of these uplifting songs. Suddenly I am reminded of pure love, hope, life and all of a sudden I find meaning in the chaos. Call Me Al, Graceland, Diamonds on the soles of her shoes. Boy in the Bubble. Songs of the innocence of my youth when my dreams were bigger than the tallest mountain in the world. Those dreams come alive when I listen to these songs again, over and over.
The energy on stage, the energy in the crowd, such an awesome experience
PAUL & THE BAND & THE AUDIENCE are sooo into this tune and the GOOD TIME they are ALL having - BEYOND GREAT!!! ❤
Well Paul and his crew can certainly move a crowd
Yea people just LOVIN' this Angel of songwriting. Its soothing to the soul.
All kinds of emotions run through me every time I take a listen...
