Exactly the way I felt for a long time - but was afraid to say that I truly think he is better than them all - including Beethoven, Mozart, whoever. And if they had to award the Nobel Prize to a musician, it should have been Paul Simon, not Bob Dylan.

@@sbansban Simon-- fantastic songwriter, love his music. Dylan--was given the Nobel for the profound effect he had on his chosen medium, which has been acknowledged by not only his peers (like, for instance, Paul Simon), but his elders, as well as poets and musicians across generations. Not simply because he wrote popular tunes that you happen to like, but because he forever altered what a popular song could be. Paul Simon, no matter how much you love his work, did not do that.

Scientifically speaking, brains tend to 'freeze' around songs they love at about 11-14 years old. This effect fades slowly til the late 20s, after which most songs don't create near the same emotional effect of songs from previous decades. So the music of today is equally good. Your 'fossilized' brain just can't hear these songs objectively. Also, this particular rendition of Sound of Silence is pathetic. He'd barely get applause at a rural open mic. But that's a topic for another day....

Paul Simon is the absolute MASTER of songwriting, and his guitar playing is AWESOME. There is no one who wrote like he did, and he didn't need one or two themes like "war" or the "civil rights", he sang about everything and all of his songs have incredible meaning.... He is simply the MASTER. 💚💚

The old man singing to all of us. The song was a tour de force with more meaning now than ever due to an aging voice.
I am old and understand that time decays us physically, however, the heart and soul remains strong.
God bless you, Paul Simon! ❤️
