@@waroftheworlds1934 thank you for a lovely response as well as that teaser of what’s to come! I’ve heard from many animators that tentacles are one of the more difficult things to animate on a single character, let alone if more than one Martian is in close shot I can imagine the difficulty in rendering it to be life like, I always try to refer back to Davy jones in POTC since that’s perhaps one of the greatest examples of animated tendrils acting simultaneously and reacting to the full body’s movement (I tend to lean into stop motion more so I know it’d be migraine inducing trying to replicate something that took a team of a dozen or more on your own!) Doing something on the scale that you are, you release it when you feel it’s ready, and there’s more than enough already that I keep watching again and again, I’ve been wanting to make a WOTW series in Lego for a long time and I think your tripods are something I want to try and replicate in Lego as their main war machine! Are they capable of creating immunities to bacteria? I’m so excited for how it’s going to all play out and I’m especially interested in the ‘storm’ the tripods used to charge themselves like minecraft creepers, you’re a phenomenal animator, don’t ever forget that! PS. Have you considered a scene in a Victorian mansion or perhaps underground tunnels, where either the Martians venture through looking for prey or they send in a camera tendril while the viewer tries to hide in a cat and mouse situation? I can imagine your style added with the grainy camera footage would make for a gothic perspective as the beings invade peoples very homes! If the martians themselves explore it could be a chance to strike at one of them, introduce their vulnerability when outside of their machines, do whatever makes your creative juices flow! (If you’ve ever been to the immersive Jeff Wayne’s experience in London the first quarter of that show would be great to draw from IMHO)
The atmosphere is incredible in this and, by the by; as you’ve used the flying and handling machines, does that mean you’ll also use the embankment machines from the novel as well?
OMG this radio this atmosphere...... This AMAZING 😍👏 I think this be real so beautiful and this window. I don't have words to describe this is a perfect. Good work 👏
@@waroftheworlds1934 always a pleasure, what on earth is next for the series? Suggestion: should the Thunderchild scene turn up, why not make it a proper battleship, such as the likes of HMS Nelson or other ships of the period?
@@captainramius5047 Oh we'll be getting to that for sure :) And I think it'll be epic. There's quite a lot of stuff to explore at the ground level next and seeing what is happening down here, though there is also going to be an epic human/Martian battle somewhere just after that. It'll be intense. Beyond that, the Martians are yet to march on London, and I think we'll find Thunderchild somewhere around there. So probably a while before I get there. It'll be fun when I do though!! Something to look forward to :)
Oh it will be. Promise. All kinds of stuff has been going on this end and disruption, not to mention being ill with some flu type nonsense (boo hiss). Anyways, there are a lot of shots I've done already that are actually for future videos. Sometimes I start work on a pivotal scene and/or video, but then I have to go back in the time line to make a video that connects the points together and get me from A-B-C etc. So, there's lots of stuff half ready to go. It should help it flow a bit now. I've also had to do a lot of plotting! But I think I know where I'm going with it... or where it's leading me. I've also just had a great new idea too. .. and i've just got to do it. I just gotta! Anyhoo, new episode should be quite soon. Really glad you enjoyed this one! Cheers!
@@waroftheworlds1934 I wasn't being entirely serious. I'm sure you need to earn a crust to be able to spend time on this. After the plotting, how comprehensive (if at all) is your story boarding?
@@mt508 All of that is done in my head for the most part as I generally know what it is I am wanting to show. But if I'm doing something complex I might storyboard... it's rare though. I'd say it's more a case that I know what actions I want to show, and when I've set it up, I find the best angle to show it. If I was working with other people though, storyboarding would be essential. But as it's just me, I can bypass some stages of planning :) Also, I know you weren't being serious, but it does bother me when it takes too long to get a new video out. I'd rather have a bigger break and then release a load regularly so that people can enjoy a period of it and get into it for a while.
@@waroftheworlds1934 That makes sense. This is so impressive, it's easy to forget you're a one man show. I found story boarding essential on visual effects sequences, mainly because without them, I wouldn't have had a clue as to WTF was going on.
Martian's don't look like that. They are more slug/human. Like. The video "the storm" show's you what they look like (but low quality of course). So. These things are handled machines. Or something similar to the iron spiders from WOTW the great martian war
The fact that an adoption done by one person is better than the ones made huge companies with large budgets really speaks volumes. Though I can't help but ask how do the martians drive their vehicles? It's something I've always wondered but nobody really seems to answer. Anyway great series and I can't wait for the next part. Salutes from italy
Thanks Marco, that was most humbling. I've written loads below, so if it's too much, do forgive me. I love writing and considering thoughts and ideas. If you don't read it I would not be offended lol. I know how bad I am for writing long comments. Regarding the difference between big budget and solo projects:- I kind of think that large productions, without a really strong director will always fall short of a singular vision. For example, the 2005 War of the Worlds has to accommodate Spielberg and Tom Cruise. Tom, though a very professional actor also has a brand and an ego that stands in the way of the mechanics of the story. It's all about that character/human story, with the situation a mere backdrop. Personally, though a story about family etc is fine, it has been done a million times, and as a viewer, I feel like "get out of the way Tom! I want to see what's happening!". It's reflected in movie posters too. You have this big head of the main "star", and all it tells you is that it is all about them, and not the setting that they are in. The best sci fi art will often feature a character dwarfed by their surroundings, but it is the setting that is fascinating and that we want to explore, and that little character is the viewer/us. So, I suppose what I am doing is exploring the texture of the setting without a character getting in the way. This allows the viewer to place themselves in the picture and assess their own feelings about it. The camera as the minds eye. Would I be dragged along with the crowd, or would I trust my gut and go a different direction? I'm very much into matters of the mind, ego/consciousness, and I try to keep myself and ego out of the picture and just have fun. I just want people to enjoy it in the same way as I am while creating it. I've never done anything like this before, and so it's as much an exploration for me as it is for the viewer. I'm always asking when I make a scene, what would I want to see? What would the Martians be doing/thinking? How would people react? It really is one of the most enjoyable things I've ever done creatively. It makes me very happy that it transfers to everyone watching too. As for how they drive the vehicles... The book says that the Martians are at the end of their civilisation and not the beginning. That infers that their technology level would be very high. An interface between their minds and the machines would probably make them very intuitive. The Martians are more like Octopus, and they control many limbs with ease and have incredible minds that exceed our own in many ways. So, I think there would be an interface with their mind, and the machines become an extension of themselves. Their will subtly influencing the movements, but the machines themselves containing a level of intelligence and able to interpret the intention of the Martians. I don't want to go too far into the beings using levers and buttons to make things happen, as the machines seem too complex for that. For sure there will be an aspect of manual control, like turning the wheel of a car, but you don't think about turning the wheel, the car just becomes an extension of you. The Martians will have advanced that a long way. I'm still toying with the idea of exploring this at some point, but it's a very complicated thing to convey. All I can do is infer a concept, and the rest will be in the minds of the viewer (as it should be). As you might tell, I love thinking about all this stuff! Anyway, I hope I've not over written! I just love hearing the thoughts of people watching and what has them intrigued. The questions always open a doorway to new ideas and areas to explore. The Martians are a mystery, and I like peaking through doorways! Thank you once again for your very kind comment. I hope I continue to entertain! And look out for the next vid, because it's going to be a good one :) Have a great day!
Thank you for answering my question, and don't worry about over writing in the comment for i too tend to speak a lot when it comes to things i like, especially things i create, so i totally understand it, plus it was interesting to see the way you think and create when it comes to this series.
My hopes of surviving and plans of escaping would be crushed with these fast handling machines. I've never done so much research I can tell you! And the 30s were a weird time, and not very well documented really. Many rabbit holes. I have to do a lot of digging! I guess to the beeb, they probably just saw it as another production. To me though, this story is very close to my heart, and I'd like to make my version count as best I can. Ah yes! I know the ones! Funny to have another slight Star Wars reference, as many think the Tripods face has a bit of Darth Vader in it! Cheers Miller, and glad you like the design!
Watching again, this scene puts me very much in mind of the film version of "This Happy Breed", where Robert Newton and Celia Johnson are informed of their sons death. There is no dialogue, only a slow tracking shot through closed french doors, with radio dance music as the only background. Their devastation is visible, but not audible, it is almost voyeuristic. I wonder if that scene played any part in your creation of this, Chris?
Hi. It didn't, and until now, I'd not heard of the film... so I hunted it down here on RUclips and I've just finished watching it, and I see what you mean! There is a strange echo there. Maybe I saw it as a kid during the early 80s, though it didn't seem familiar. Anyway, I'm glad you shared the thought, as it's a great little vignette of the time, and is also excellent reference and insight into how people were thinking at the time. It's actually kind of interesting in terms of our current world. It's funny to see the same conversations repeating themselves. I've been mainly doing my research through a historical factual lens, but this has shown me that I should hunt out more films of this period that are looking back at the 30s to get a broader view. I hadn't really considered it. So thanks for that, and always for watching :) p.s. I'm getting very close to the next release. Still a little more work to do, but at the 85-90% mark, so look out for it. Have a great week!
Hi Chris, many thanks for your thought provoking reply, and I'm very glad that you got something worthwhile from THB. Yes, civilisation is by no means linear, but very cyclic. Its just the fashions and the current existential"threat" which changes. Really looking forward to the next episode. Hope your week is going well. Best wishes

Glad you're enjoying :D ...as for the other part, perhaps.... time will tell!
OMG this radio this atmosphere...... This AMAZING 😍👏 I think this be real so beautiful and this window. I don't have words to describe this is a perfect. Good work 👏
Thank you very much! :)
Wow, so creepy. Keep up the amazing work. 👍
Thanks, more always on the way!
Like the feeling of it being someone who took shelter in their house when the Martians came, hoping to be passed by.
Also a confirmation that what is heard on the radio is actually real. Glad you're enjoying!
This is shaping up to possible be a masterpiece of modern horror, splendid job sir!
Thanks Cap! :)

Another stunner Kip, well done you, all that effort was very clearly well worth while!
Thanks P :) Funny to think you set this whole thing in motion :) x Keep plugging on!
Not thought of it like that! That makes me very happy xx
Well worth the wait. But perhaps a shorter wait for the next episode, please?🙂
But as it's just me, I can bypass some stages of planning :)
Also, I know you weren't being serious, but it does bother me when it takes too long to get a new video out.
These things the Flying Machine released... are they Handling machines? or some other species of Martian?
Handling Machines.
:) Well, they certainly seem spidery...
Martian's don't look like that. They are more slug/human. Like. The video "the storm" show's you what they look like (but low quality of course). So. These things are handled machines. Or something similar to the iron spiders from WOTW the great martian war
Ah yes he’s back!
Hey there Waffles :)
Once again another stand out broadcast. Keep it up.
Thanks Jacob :)
Awesome work!
I always wanted to see handling machines in the series keep up the good work
You'll be seeing more of them without doubt :) Thanks, and I will do!
Amazing work!
Thanks!
Regarding the difference between big budget and solo projects:-
I kind of think that large productions, without a really strong director will always fall short of a singular vision.
@@marcobagnardi4739 Indeed. There's nothing more interesting than our passions :)

Thank you, more super doom to come! :)
My hopes of surviving and plans of escaping would be crushed with these fast handling machines. Seeing them drop like spiders was terrifying, and the one running in the street seemed a little different, i loved it! The possibility of it sneaking out on me in this dark area is terrying as well!
Keep up your amazing work!
Hehe, thanks Spartan. You'll enjoy the next one! :D
@@waroftheworlds1934 Do you have an estimate of when it will be released?

@@spartan9963 I am really working hard to get it out this weekend. If I don't hit the weekend, then it'll certainly be some time next week. It all depends on how well the current scene I'm working on goes. A lot of moving parts, so it gets complicated. But I think I can probably make it. Ok the handling machine is straight out of the backrooms
I don't know much about backrooms. It's one of those things that I keep meaning to look into. I think I have a vague concept of what it's about... is it like a Matrix/sub reality place just full of weird things? If so, I guess the Handler would fit in there :)
The handling machine THAT YOU MADE WOULD FIT this is my favorite handling machine design I love the aspect of them being agile quick hunters with light heat rays it reminds me of a enitity forget it’s name though also sorry Jeff Wayne handling machine Anyways jokes aside KEEP DOING THIS and maybe even involve a tempest that will cause some big trouble for the humans it will give the martians some time to destroy earth if you do add a tempest

lol... They wouldn't listen. I said, wouldn't you prefer somewhere in the lakes or the peak district? There's no reasoning with Martians I can tell you. They like the urban sprawl... clearly.
A great series, looking forward to further episodes...I wonder how the Martians will cope with the brummie accent?

@@waroftheworlds1934 Yours is seriously better than the BBC effort with much more atmosphere . Unconvincing Flaky tripods and hopping on stilettoes Martians with no discernible features. The BBC had God knows how much cgi budget but didn't use it well, its almost as if they didn't read H.G.Well's novel.
@@pauldunlop1660 Cheers! I've seen clips of the BBC one, but I've not actually watched it. I don't really believe in the TV license and what the BBC stands for, so it pleases me no end that you think it's better than stinky old Auntie's version lol. (Though I have seen the Beebs Martians and thought they were dumb too :)
The beeb no doubt had a story they wanted to tell, and The War of the Worlds just happened to fit it. I think they do that kind of thing a lot. True of many films too. I'd like to hope I'm doing it from a pure science fiction angle, and exploring a little history too.
Very glad you're enjoying it, it's all I could ever ask :) Means more than you know.

So thanks for that, and always for watching :)
