The Martians firing their heat rays into the clouds to form thunderstorms/lightening is a great notion. Obviously, the Martian machines re-engergise via lightning. In the 1953 film, the Martians relied upon nuclear energy as a power source for their rays and protective shielding. Many thanks, for this outstanding series of videos!

I'm trying to add to the story in interesting ways the best I can. Though it's also kind of writing itself and leading me along too. Many strange ideas seem to have fallen into place, caught me by surprise and shaped the story as it is going. Keeps me interested in what happens next while I'm animating what is happening now.
Have a great year ahead Walter! Appreciated! :)

:) * blushes * ...thank you Dylan :) That's one of the best comments I've ever seen too.. and I really appreciate it. I'm working on the next episode and it's so much work, I'm having to dig deep to keep pressing on, so that kind of encouragement really helps, you have no idea!
As for the famous part... the one thing I've discovered is that it's really hard to get noticed. I mean, I'm very pleased to have as many people watching as I do, but really, it needs someone with a lot of reach to put it out there. I have reached out to people here and there, but anyone with large followings probably receive thousands of comments a day, so I just get lost in the noise.
But, I keep pressing on. I hope at some point the series will get noticed, and I think the next few videos might help put it on the map, as they might be pretty share-worthy. Anyways, all in good time eh! I'll just keep plodding along, and see what happens. Whatever happens, I'm seeing this through!
Again, thank you for such a lovely comment, made my day. You have a great one!

I'm really glad you're enjoying the series, it's certainly born of love. I've been into The War of the World since I was a kid too.
My introduction was the 1953 film, which has a special place in my heart, but also the Jeff Wayne musical. So, getting a chance to explore it myself all these years later is real joy. I have to say that the support from everyone watching is also wonderful, and makes it very worthwhile, and I'm thankful to everyone who comments and takes the time to watch. War of the Worlds fans would seem to be a very special breed. It's been a real joy to meet so many fans of the book(s), the films, the radio plays, and I guess this series too. I feel a little like a custodian.

Wells book has always affected how I look at aliens, it was the bit about the evolution of the martians (or the atrophy of their bodies) and how the hands or something similar are needed as the teacher of the brain. This stuck with me so the first thing I look for is how do the aliens manipulate tools or have the designers gone for weird because, Aliens!, and created something so impracticable that it could never create the technology let alone operate it or even survive a cold wind.
This is a very long winded way of saying I like the design of your Martians. 😀

Lol. Firstly, thanks. Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. I've kind of based it on the book, but added my own impression of them. I didn't want them to feel so removed from humans that you couldn't draw a parallel of sorts.
If we ever get to see them up close, which I think we will at some point, they are much creepier than from a distance. Tentacles though... they are a nightmare to animate, that is all I'll say :) Glad you liked :D

So the two takeaways I have from this. Spoilers below.
I did not expect the aliens to be so small.
Giving the aliens weather manipulation is a new take on them as well. In the RTS games intro the Martians remark on their failure to maintain their environment on mars. This does implied they had terraforming technology besides the Red Weed and I guess this is an application of it. Now the question is this how they recharge, are they supercharging for something, or is it a measure against more bombers?

    • @waroftheworlds1934
      @waroftheworlds1934  Год назад +4

Think of it more in terms of getting a full charge. They used a lot of energy taking out the power station and the bombers. But it's also a tool of fear. The Martians are actually quite big, to us. They are small against the Tripod. It might be that the grass in the foreground is confusing the issue. :)

I thought I had guessed it. "They are creating a thunderstorm to prevent human bombing! Ingenious way to use heat rays! Meteorological warfare!" Did not expect them to use lightning strikes as... recharges? Huh.

Hehe. Too low on resources for that I guess. But an embarrassment for the Tripod pilot, who will undoubtedly over compensate in the future.

I am stuck thinking about if the guy filming had soldiers with him. They couldve shot the Martians and maybe even entered the tripod afterwards

An interesting idea. I could answer with my thoughts on it, but I rather like that you're imagining a scenario, because that's why I try to keep it loose, and leave space for the viewers own ideas.
      Thanks for watching Gravity :)

hmmm, this is bad, however this also looks like field improvision. i am guessing they did not have a clue that we are capable of fielding that much explosives and discussed it with each other and some clever clogs had an idea how to improve the shield without a refit.
its situational, there arnt always clouds close by, and its likely that continued use will burn out the shield at the least.

The original intention behind this video (and I leave it vague as to what is happening so that the viewer can interpret it themselves), was that they are harnessing Earth power, as a further indication of how insanely advanced and different the Martians are. It also leans into the idea that they are presenting themselves as these giant godlike entities, using vast power on a planetary scale, making it their own.
Loved your thoughts :) Thanks for watching and commenting megazero!

Recharge! Harnessing the power of the planet. The pulsed heatrays are creating ionised channels/filaments in the air. These channels act as lightning rods to control the localised area of the storm. The overall effect is to create a bit of a super storm over the head of the damaged Tripod, providing energy to fix damaged systems (as well as charge up the other Tripods in the area).
