I have a 15 year old Moonwatch. I never worry about where I wear it. Living in NYC, they'll cut your hand off for a Rolex. Omega flies under the radar. Only wristwatch guys are going to recognize it. EVERYONE knows Rolex, which makes you a target for crime.
They’re talking about a vintage one here that can be had around $4500 and the omega pre owned about the same price because both are attainable unlike their retail prices for some people
I can wear my Omega everyday respectfully and not worry so much about a waiting list it’s still a great conversation piece it has prestige and history to back it up and also it’s available to buy new. The Speedmaster is top tier. The Rolex Date Just is clean classy elegant with a rich history and screams “I make pretty good money”, the pro and the con of the watch and not a watch I would wear everyday but when I do wear it it’s turning heads.
My first luxury watch was a Tag Heuer, followed by a couple of Rolexes, a Bond Seamaster, Seamaster Pro, Panerai and just picked up an Omega sapphire sandwich.
Wow, that's an impressive collection! You've covered a lot of iconic ground; each of those watches has its own unique charm and history. The Omega Sapphire Sandwich is a fantastic addition-love the way it showcases the movement. Enjoy! 🔥
Rolex had made itself the most recognized luxury watch brand on the market. By far. Is it the best? Probably not. But through marketing, celeb endorsements, the aire of exclusivity by limiting their availability and overpricing them. They've built their brand. If you asked anyone on the street to name a luxury watch. They will invariably answer "Rolex". So, it all comes down to what you're looking for. Recognition in the general public?...Rolex. A fine watch that YOU like?...Buy any other brand. I have an old Moonwatch and a Tag Heuer Steve McQueen. I have no desire to have everyone who sees my watch to ask..."Is it real?".
You make some excellent points! Rolex has undoubtedly created a powerful brand image through effective marketing and strategic scarcity, which contributes to its recognition as a luxury watch. Ultimately, it’s all about personal preference-if you find joy in your Moonwatch and Tag Heuer, that’s what truly matters. Each brand has its unique appeal, so choosing what resonates with you is key! 🙌
The Omega Speedmaster is an excellent choice for a first luxury watch! It's such an iconic piece with a rich history and versatility that makes it perfect for everyday wear or special occasions. Plus, it’s often considered a must-have for any collection.
I bought the Aqua Terra and the the mint green smooth 41 Rolex. The Aqua Terra was no comparison to my Date just. The lume was subpar, top heavy, and no Tfit on the Aqua Terra
I get where you’re coming from! The Aqua Terra and the Datejust are both excellent timepieces. The Datejust’s fit and iconic design set a high standard. I appreciate your insights-your wrist game is 🔥!
The Moonwatch truly is iconic-an all-time great, and it’s hard to argue against its place in watch history. With its legendary legacy, it’s a watch that stands above the rest, combining style, history, and functionality like no other. For many, it really is the ultimate timepiece!
Each has its own legacy and charm: the Datejust represents timeless elegance and versatility, while the Speedmaster is all about that adventurous spirit and historical significance. It’s like a battle of two icons, each excelling in its own realm! Which one do you lean towards more?
I could care less what anyone thinks about my watch. I think it's interesting to hear your opinion, but for me the only one that can tell me what the best first watch is going to be is myself. Also neither of these are luxury watches IMHO. the Rolex arguably yes, not it's not hands down a luxury watch. It's close. Speedmaster and Subs for sure aren't luxury.
@@fuad-topic5155Well depends which speedmaster we’re talking about the most expensive new Speed is chrono chime and it’s cost more than 500 000 dollars
Good point, James! The Datejust does bring a touch of elegance that can feel dressy. But for those who enjoy a bit of daily flair, it can definitely fit the bill.
The Longines Spirit Titanium 40mm is a fantastic choice for a grail! With its lightweight feel, classic aviation heritage, and sleek design, it's a watch that brings a lot of appeal. That matte finish in titanium adds a subtle yet distinctive touch, too-definitely a dream piece!
Omega speedmaster. Never rolex. Rolex is boring. Omega can be bought without a waiting list, great daily driver, and a chronograph is super useful. Oh, and f*ck rolex' ad practices

Rolex datejust: good
Omega speedmaster: exceptional
Take your pick.

Is this a serious question? Speedy all day. Much better quality watch, timeless design, and has an exceptional story and history behind it.
I have both, my datejust (2021) is on par with my First omega in space in terms of quality
That Rolex guy cares way too much about what other people think
Yeah, I’d love a Rolex, but my local AD won’t sell me one and I’m not jumping through hoops. I’ll buy the Omega Seamaster 300 Polar.
They’re talking about a vintage one here that can be had around $4500 and the omega pre owned about the same price because both are attainable unlike their retail prices for some people
Why is your AD giving you trouble?

That speedmaster was my favorite watch. I wore it for 10 years before it was stolen.
Sorry to hear about your loss.
How you lost it exactly?
Both great picks, but speedmaster.
Omega all the way!!!
My choises would be- Jaeger Lecoultre ultra thin moon phase, breguet type xx, breitling navitimer, Reverso grande sun and moon
Laco Kiel, is both timeless and a wrist monster
Omega

My First one ....Breitling Orbiter B70❤
In my opinion, it doesn’t really get more timeless than the Cartier Santos
Certainly a nice kettle!

For a first luxury watch? I can just buy the Speedy and make it the first and only luxury watch in my collection.

MOVADO Museum Classic Gold at $500. Timeless & Classy.
