      They went for an underbelly exhaust which actually makes the bike more slicker. Problem is, they didn’t make the exhaust looks integrated on the design. Hopefully an aftermarket exhaust will make it look better. Ducati stock underbelly exhaust always look like it’s part of the design. Yamaha didn’t seem to bother. But last r6 and this r9 almost looks the same. Aside from the exhaust and wings.

    Let’s be real, in most states in America you can really only ride in summer, half of fall and half or spring. Motorcycles are impractical. We get annoyed because you are making a toy that’s MEANT to be impractical and trying to make it sensible, which is not what sports bike riders want, most of us don’t even live in states with good back roads so getting on the interstate and taking off or leaning hard on so turn pikes is really all we have, so yes HP is important because we like the noise and we like pulling up to the meet and flexing a 200hp bike that makes our backs hurt after 45 minutes.

    I have to agree with your points except for a single thing i can't just not mention. And i'd think you'd agree, I was surprised you did not mention it. Most "sensible" riders that are on screaming 4 cylinder rockets are very aware of how impractical they are, how expensive, dangerous, you name it, but well, that isn't the point is it? I didn't get an R1 for it to be practical or sensible, I got it because its freaking awesome, and so do most riders that have 3+ neurons. If I wanted a sensible practical cheap machine i'd be feeling like I am riding the bike equivalent of a cubicle office. I am not loving this current trend of sensible machines because it feels like the market wants to tell me what I should like, there is no passion, just controlled practicality. And don't get me wrong I do have a sensible practical motorcycle, but its for practical things, the R1 is for fun, even if i'm a slowpoke, its the awe of knowing it will kill me the moment i dare think i have full control of it.

That Z900 engine you hate is less than 120 HP and is really nice to use, but you can also wring it out and make it make fun noises and stuff. It beats any parallel twin, it’s just more expensive and harder to beat those pointless emissions laws.

    I ride a 2016 R6 and my buddy rides a ‘24 MT09. I love the screaming inline 4 and hitting twisty backroads and doing what the bike was made to do. But when I cruise with my friend and he takes off from me while I’m waiting to hit the power band… it’s really making me consider the R9. Especially since I’ve ridden his MT09. If the R9 is just that but the sport bike version it’d be great. I want to sit on one and feel the ergonomics before make any official decisions though.

    in the immortal words of carroll Shelby, torque wins races, horsepower sells cars. or motorcycles in this case.

    • @ntdscherer
      @ntdscherer 2 месяца назад

      If Shelby said that, he was wrong, or at best not entirely right. The most you can say for torque is that there are some races where it's more important, such as a track with lots of slow, tight corners. Anything involving mostly higher speeds, horsepower wins 10 times out of 10. This is why Formula 1 cars chase horsepower over torque. They can run at ridiculous RPM almost the whole time, so they're much better off with extremely short stroke engines that make huge horsepower via RPM, not big torque.

I like the power cruiser I have, I like my Duc SFV4S, and I enjoy the experience my V4R gives me as well. The V4R is absolutely overkill and impractical for day to day riding, but it’s a blast for the use case it was designed for - arguably the best. Regardless of which bike I’m riding, I wear full gear, helmet, gauntlet gloves, jacket, pants (leather), and boots. Some may say it’s overkill, but having had a an accident on that R6 because an Escalade driver decided he deserved the piece of road I was occupying more than I did - I’m only here because I was wearing full gear that day and God’s grace. So I will continue to wear it every time I ride and say a prayer… because it’ll literally save your life!

    The thing that gets me is when Reddit discussions about recommendations for beginners focus on stat sheet figures. People will say things like 600cc or 60 HP are too much for a beginner, but really, neither of those figures tells you anything about how a motorcycle feels pulling out of your driveway at low speed. I would argue that initial throttle response is the single most important factor in how beginner-friendly a motorcycle is, and there's no stat for that. You just have to try them and see. My family freaked out when they heard I bought an 800cc cruiser for my first motorcycle, but what they didn't understand was that it was really smooth off the line, much less jumpy than the smaller bike I took my MSF course on. I ride that thing like a granny in a Corola, displacement be damned. Peak power figures are completely irrelevant unless someone plans to be wide open throttle in top gear.

    I think this was only fair if it was only R6 guy complaining. But those are just easy targets. I do get the feeling that more and more bread and butter machines with fancy electronics that are far less expensive to produce gets pushed down every sportsriders throat, trying to convince us all that that R9 117 hp is "enough for everybody". And if not, we don't know what we're talking about and we should all "learn to ride first". It's fine to love and buy those bikes, but please spare me the attitude that we don't know what we like. There is a universe between 117 and 217 hp, so don't come and tell that "noone has use for 200+ hp". They could offer lots in the middle, but I bet that means less revenue. So now the industry decided that they should tell sportsriders to come to their senses and buy between 660 and 890 cubics and be happy already.
