This is a love it or hate it truck. If you are not open minded, play everything safe and rather boring, you will hate this. If you are fun, unique, like adventure and a fun cool person..FJ is for you. Doesn't make this truck bad. If you want boring, just buy a Mini-van and call it day!
saw my first FJ today in Belgium...it's a pretty rare car overhere..i must say , i was blown away by it's design..i really loved it! Wondering what toyota it was i ended up here... I don't understand why Ttoyota doesn't bring it over to europe..this would be a big succes overhere!
As being born & raised in the Detroit area I have to give respect for Ford for not taking any government money even though I will never buy another Ranger ever again unless it had a manuel trans. As for the Ford GT, if you want one better get ready to fork out more the $100k for it.
I agree with you I love mine its my second one I got my first one in 13 and tradef for a brand new Cherokee in 15 I was dissatisfied and finally this may i got another 07 same color but dvd player and gages on the dash .When i traded mine in 15 it had 102,000 miles it ran lije new. @@sherrykeith2268 True, FJs are very cool vehicle. I've one too (you can see that in my channel, I kind of rescued it from previous owner ..lol ) Love it.
in addition to what @tryingharder said, the fact is toyota's are really well made vehicles. they do get to have such high prices because they hold their re-sale value extremely well. my step father is a forecaster for a company that makes parts for almost all car companies and he told me to buy a toyota because i won't have to spend much money maintaining it and i will probably be able to sell it for around what i paid for it. 3 years later i've spent 1,000 dollars in total maintaining my car.
FJ Cruisers rock! I have a 2007 FJ that will blow the majority of vehicles off the line. 0-60 in about 5.5 seconds and lets get cocky, all specked out with room to off roading, fun to play in rivers, awesome on snow covered roads. Not much room to view in the vehicle, but very Nice FJ!
FJ's have their place, but Yesterday we recovered an FJ Cruiser that went over a cliff 60 ft. down into a riverbed. it would have been impossible to do without our Jeeps. the width of the trail plus the weight and location of the lost rig would have made it damn near impossible to do the job with any other vehicle. long live Jeep. (1993 YJ wrangler, 4" lift, 33" mud terrain tires, stock 4.0L motor, Warn M8274-50 winch.)
I like the Jeep's smaller size because it's better for maneuvering in tight places, but... get the FJ if you want reliability. That's just the way it is.
Hi my name is Chavy I have 2007 Toyota fj cruiser my fj cruiser same yellow 2wd and all original 100% very smooth and drive I love it I lot in the world
@skyline777 yes mate this new crusier is a limited off road unit compared to say a Nissian PATROL, Land Rover Defender, and some Land Crusiers. I'm talking about "off road" not rough dirt roads. The vehicles I mentioned have totally different suspension setups designed for "off road". The Crusier has "independant suspesion" - like a commodore. The reason it gets IS, is so that it handles well "on road". Toyota do not want a full of road design with this car!
ha ha ha all the "extra cost options" are standard on the australian version. We even get a full tv screen radio! We ordered ours yesterday.. but have to wait 5 months to have it delivered here to australia.. worth the wait tho..
@Jaab - how? with locked front and rear axles, the rubi is sick. The Fj can only lock the rear, and that is with the option. they both have a 4.0L V6 and a 6 speed. so what if the Fj has that traction control braking crap? nothin works better when there is a loss of traction than lockers, and the rubi has them front and rear. so how does it do better in the sand, magic?
once i get me civic si paid off i'm torn between a jeep wrangler and the fj cruiser for a winter truck but i've always been more partial to toyota the only complaints i've really heard about this car is some of the manual transmissions have issues and blind spots.
Notice they compared the FJ off road capabilities to the Nissan and not the Wrangler. Also, not an FJ hater - they always get my attention on the road and I look forward to seeing what Toyota does with it in coming years. OlllllllO Jeep.
my mom has a 2006 jeep rubicon, and my stepmom has a 2007 FJ. I will say that the FJ is more stylish, and definately more modern than the jeep is. I dislike the amount of plastic within the interior of the FJ, too much injection molding. I am not sure of the offroad capabilities for the FJ, but the jeep has never gotten stuck. Id say that the comparison is a toss up that comes down to personal preference
that actually seems reasonable... offroading an fj-cruiser in indonesia.. i seriously think it's reasonable i mean who has $30,000 to spend on a hummer h3? fewer than you think.. and $57,000 for the h2! the fj cruiser may be fairly weak and not luxurious but it is a decent suv for those who want to go off-roading.. you're right
LOL at all the morons commenting without knowing anything. Rear solid axle, Front independent suspension. It is 90% the off-roader the Wrangler is. MUCH better on road manners. Matters to me since I'm on paved roads 75% of the time. H3 better? Not with that *awesome* 5 cylinder engine. LOL. The V8 model comes close. Put a lift, bigger tires, and the FJ runs with the best of them. A modded wrangler can't be touched off-road, true, but I'd rather have reliability. Styling, that's opinion.
you were assuming that i was comparing the two cars. i was just taking any two SUV's and claiming that the toyota fj cruiser pwns the cadillac escalade when off-roading, but i must say that it's a good competition between the mercedes gl450 and fj cruiser
i cant beleive he just compared that thing to a Jeep Rangler Rubi. Those rubis are by far the most capable stock 4x4 - and cheaper too, and better on some real rocks, not that crap they were playing on in this video
This thing has more blind-spots than a Semi. I hope Toyota puts bubble mirrors on the side-view mirrors. I would not hang out long in the FJ's blind-spots while driving. They might run into you!
@johnherrera305 Your right - its a adventure, have fun car - just dont tell me its designed for off road - because it is technically limited in this area.
@RovingLandRover naw man. as much as i like the versatility of the defender, this job was certainly best suited for a wrangler. we BARELY made it out there in our jeeps. i was suprised that the FJ even made it back that far. the trail (at places) couldnt have been more than 5 or 6 feet wide before going over the edge. it was pretty hairy. im not saying the defender couldnt get back there, im saying that getting the rig turned around would have been a REAL bitch. ill post a video for ya.
@dodgyplonk I would be amazed if you could name another car that stock, or even with a few thousands dollars of mods done, is safer, more comfortable, and has the same great off road ability, while still being a great daily driver. I admit it's not the perfect off road vehicle, but there has not been many situations that i have backed down from when others have gone on. and I blame my own abilities for that. This truck is far from a disgrace.
If only the packaging wasn't so bad on this truck... The 6-speed manual and its capabilities are great, but barely usable rear seats & such small cargo space on a vehicle this large? The 3rd gen 4Runner was def. the sweet spot, in terms of packaging.
@Nytowl7 Mate, I know how you feel? Toyota just released these here in Australia, and what I think is that Toyota were stupid NOT to release a DIESEL model of these. Heck it's built on the PRADO chassis, so why can't they drop the 1KD-FTV motor in it, just like the diesel Prado? Apparently a 1KD-FTV conversion can be done on these things. Google "Dieseltoyz" and see what I mean, pity it's a US website.

Give it a few more years and you'll see this thing all over Africa, their already selling in Australia. Once Toyota gets smart and throws a diesel in it, nothing will be able to touch it. And everyone knows that Toyota is 4x4 king of the world, where Jeep is just big in the US, not to mention its such a cliche 4x4 that is driven by everyone.

really!? its only $23,320 in the US (the equivalent of €15,940)! that's a huge rip off. surely, though, its because the demand in Holland is so low that the amount of resources devoted to import them to that area force the price to skyrocket. they actually don't sell very well in the US (less than 1,000 a month), but they catch your eye when you see it.
Only the front grill reminds me of the classic Fj40. I wish the designers had done what the landrover did with defender and others like mini cooper and VW beetle as mentioned. Bottom line is that they could have done better.
@NatureGnome ok, the toyota 70 series, 79 series, 80 series, 100 series and all the nissan patrols. You actually missed my point, point being the fj is modeled off the fj40 series, but made into a soft roader which is disgraceful in the name of the original 40 series. If you're an american I don't expect you to understand the difference in an offroader and a softroader.
yea that's true but the fj cruiser is a decent off-roader. the range rover would kick the fj's ass, but the fj would kick the escalade's ass. it's a $20,000 hummer with way less power and way fewer standard features, but still the same silhouette of off-road pleasure.

Agreed. For the older models anyway. Check my channel. I own a 105 series and have taken it into some of the nastiest terrain. Outside of normal servicing have only replaced a seized wheel bearing.
