    I laugh when people talk about the rails, you should see the videos I have over the last few years here in upper Michigan where the tracks are MUCH worse.... I even filmed one derailing once by my house! This rail runs north to Channing, MI (130 miles north of Green Bay), then a line extends up to Mass City, MI where they store 100's of cars when not in use. They make $$$ on storing them. If you ever come up north, hit me up! I'll make a video and share some love with ya!

    Great catch of the ELS running local. I've seen track like this b4 and its quite scary to know it's still active! To me there's no reason why this couldn't have been updated by now. They (ELS) gets different locomotives but can't put new rail in for the safety aspect of it and their employees. Anyways, thanks for sharing your videos with us along with your time and effort! Certainly enjoying them back here in Delmar, Delaware.

    ELS aka Penn Central and Rock Island jr LOL Thomas the Tank engine would derail on this track, thanks for the catch.

    Found your channel, just what have been looking for !! I live in Green Bay and it's great to see some rail action. I know there's a train that comes into the yard from the south about mid day , do you know when trains leave southbound out of the yard. Not the local switcher , but the 2 CN freight engines and about 80 cars. It has to be the same engines that come in the middle of the day. Thanks and keep the videos coming !

    Gonna say track speed on rail in that condition is probably 10mph ... I think it's a rule for outdated in bad shape rail ...

    Those are lighter rails than mainline, could possibly have a 25 or 30 mph speed limit.i had the privilege of seeing csx heritage unit 3194 (tribute to law enforcement) a couple of wks ago go by my house, got a video of it a little farther east, would've chased it farther, but had things to do and once it crossed the ridge was moving well over 30mph

    On track like that, you're looking at 10-15mph max or you're putting cars on the ground and yourself if you go over it. Nothing exceeds 10-15mph on ninety pound rail, which that rail is. If you look inside of the rail facing the ties, it will have a date of when it was forged and installed by whoever the railroad's original owner was in the 1950s when steam probably was running on it. Set them up means put air through it before I install the fred device at the end of the train. I being the conductor after I check to see if air is running. I'm guessing that they pulled forward to the next crossing where the conductor could get back on the lead locomotive. But the video ends when they are still installing the fred so I couldn't tell you what happened after it ended.

    The track speeds are determined by the condition of the track as described in the CFR's. There are different classes of track, excepted and class 1-5 (higher classes do exist in the NE corridor and Europe)
    Excepted track is limited to 10mph, no passenger trains or hazmat permitted.
    Class 1 is limited to 10 mph(F)15mph(P)
    Class 2 is limited to 25 mph(F)30mph(P)
    Class 3 is limited to 40 mph(F)60mph(P)
    Class 4 is limited to 60 mph(F)80mph(P)
    Class 5 is limited to 80 mph(F)90mph(P)
    What class is the ELS? Tie condition, ballast, rail condition and Gauge of rail determines the class...
    There needs to be at least 5 good ties in 39ft rail section to be considered class 1
    8 ties for class 3+4.
    12 ties for class 5
    The good ties also need to be within so many inches of the rail joint to determine rail class. I was told once that it costs roughly 1 million dollars per mile to maintain class 3 track.
    Most of ELS is class 1 and 2.
    The CN track you usually film is class 3.

    Most of the E&LS track speed is 10mph, some sections they run 30mph, depends on where you are, and some are worse than 10mph

  • @bryanphillips6666
    @bryanphillips6666 2 года назад

    I can't imagine they can go more than 15 to 20 or 25, probably maybe only 10mph in some really bad areas. Check out what is stamped on some of the rails, it may tell you when it was serviced last

  • @glens2036

    Honestly, I don't see how any train can safely go on tracks that are that bad. I would think it would be high risk of derailment.

    Hi Steve. Train Engine 🚆 501 is a old contrail..

    • @bryanphillips6666
      @bryanphillips6666 2 года назад

      No it was manufactured (built) as Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific Railroad in July of 1973 by the Electromotive Division Of General Motors, or EMD. It was also a Soo Line engine and is now owned by the railroad leasing arm of what's left of EMD. Their paint scheme is blue and white but 501 wasn't ever a Conrail locomotive. Good eye though

      Take into account this is a secondary company, not one of the big ones. This is not a well traveled line and _then_ you throw in the environment impact (freeze/thaw cycles, frost heaves etc.) The costs are something the bean counters would probably scoff so hard, they would break their backs.

    Sheesh! Those are some raggedy tracks! There are videos of trains on here that actually operate on tracks worse than those. There's a short line in Louisiana that has tracks worse than that. They probably don't have the money to fix it or the customer base on that particular line is not great enough to justify it. I'm sure it hurts efficiency for the RR they could get the job done faster on better track.
