How do they not have the camera on the board when Samuele Estratti plays Splinter Twin for the Win in game 2? Most epic. And we didn't even get to watch it..
@Kingofredeyes I think it was guilome v guilome, one being matangue and the other being wafo-tapa. they have been dear friends for years. I dunno, wafo-tapa may have played a sibling or cousin that I missed.
Splinter twin. gives [TAP] put a copy of this creature into the battlefield and it has haste. In game one he used it on Pestermite which allows to TAP or UnTAP a permanent when it comes into play, it has haste.
@nicknsk8er It depends on the format of the PT. This one was Modern, so it was a constructed format (constructed = you bring your cards, limited = you do drafts/sealed and play with the cards you find). Yet, to qualify for the top 8 they had to play x (can't remember the numbers here, sorry) rounds of draft and y rounds of the PT format (in this case Modern). Then the top 8 will do the last 3 single elimination rounds in the PT format (again, Modern in this case).
@Thror251 18:45 there are i believe 7 cards in all graveyards, but goyf only swung for 3. Are fetch lands or anything else not considered card types...just trying to understand goyf thats all.
@zhengjing1 Yeah, if not for the Blood Moon, Path to Exile could have been used on the Splinter Twin's target, maybe coaxing two life out for Spellskite's activation (although he may have just payed a blue, which I would hope). Then 2x Bolt to the player. I think, though, that the Italian player had no chance of losing the game on that last turn with the cards we saw.
@captRhay i still wasn't sure how Paul's board ended up getting cleared at the end of Game 1. I'm not watching it again either. If they are going to spend so much money on the camera crew, they could at least keep the cameras where they belong. I mean how hard is it to keep it pointed at the board state?
@captRhay They're just doing the same live commentary that they do at the Pro Tour. People like Evan Erwin used to make rundowns of matches to no avail. This coverage is pretty much the best you'll be able to get with the speed at which players are going.
Im going to give you a response ONLY 9 YEARS LATER. With the benefit of handsight and total information of both hands and drawn cards, yes that may have been a good plan; but Josh would have been exposed to Pestermite combo any time without answers; and that's not a position you wish to be. Also, it wouldn't have mattered in the end because Samuel would have ended on 4 life at the end against only 1 bolt and an extra Blue mana for Spellskite activation.
How about we keep the camera on the table so we can see what's actually going on rather than looking at the backdrops and Estratti's face? We missed half of Game 1 looking at his face, and the wolf back drop.
@Lightmane321 What, and winning with Blazing Shoal on turn 2 is any better? That deck was so problematic that it had to be banned. The Deceiver/Twin combo is perfectly fine. If you can play through all of your opponent's disruption (counters, removal, Spellskite, etc.) and resolve a Splinter Twin on your Pestermite, then you deserve the win. Magic is a strategy game, and that includes combo. It's not as "auto-win" as you seem to think it is.
@stewpidazzle Goyf only cares about card types. If there are 20 lands in the graveyard, that makes no difference. Just count card types (land, creature, artifact, enchantment, instant, sorcery, planeswalker, tribal)
@TheCollector8 Oh. Now I see it. I didn't realize that it untaps it & then it just makes another one & another & another. So why didn't they ban such a silly thing? Winning a Pro Tour by playing Pestermite & enchanting it with Splinter Twin? That's ridiculous.
You see... It's kinda tricky. While you play you need to pay a lot of attention at your opponent. He needs to do the same, so you confuse him and disturb. Other than this, it might happen than in rush of biggy stacky stack you pick wrong spell and it all goes crappy. If you keep shuffling your hand you can pay attention to all cards there, being reminded of each one :-)
they should have a no shuffling your hand rule while on camera so people watching can actually see what's in their hand i mean you can move it but this is ridicilous
it annoys their opponents as much as it annoys you. If you can break your opponents concentration for even a second they could make a mistake. Mind games are fun!
SPOILER- Couldn't josh have won at the 1hr, 25Min mark if he had cracked his fetch lands, path to exiled the spellskite, then lightning bolted him twice??
cant fucking wait for a finals game where at the last match to win the tournament, someone have to muligan all the way to 0 cards because no lands in hand, maybe wizards will try to do something about it then.
While I love magic tournaments, two things have always bothered me. 1. The crazy hand twitches... apparently it makes them relax, yet it is so ANNOYING. 2. The shuffling, that is actually not a real problem, but it does take a lot of time with cards like ponder and ALL the fetches. ...Secret 3 : People who put their creatures behind their lands.
@tuber856 players at top levels tend to get extremely focused on the game and not think so much about being Mr. nice guy. As a result we see things where people can come off cold during a match but then turn around and be all smiles and joking with each other after the fact. I mean hell look at worlds with Wafo-tapa vs Wafo-tapa you have relatives and while one was joking some the other was very serious. It has nothing to do with being cold and everything to do with focusing on the game.
How do they not have the camera on the board when Samuele Estratti plays Splinter Twin for the Win in game 2? Most epic. And we didn't even get to watch it..
Utter-Leyton's shuffling--
damaging so many sleeves.....
The camera work is terrible, just show the table. I'm here to watch magic, not rafters.
Mike DeCosta This was the humble beginning of modern pro tours. They've come a long way since.
It was a very exciting pro tour as well.
This was obviously before green sun zenith was banned in modern.
also, the green sun's zenith? ponder? preordain? all of these are now banned... but they weren't always
@Kingofredeyes I think it was guilome v guilome, one being matangue and the other being wafo-tapa. they have been dear friends for years. I dunno, wafo-tapa may have played a sibling or cousin that I missed.

@Thror251
there were four cards in all graveyards after the remand was played and goyf attacked but only for three...
@dylancool2 are the tables made of glossy granite-ish material? i would seriously want one as well!
@Thror251
18:45 there are i believe 7 cards in all graveyards, but goyf only swung for 3. Are fetch lands or anything else not considered card types...just trying to understand goyf thats all.
please upload the semi finals and quarterfinals
now during the pro tour, they play with there own cards or all draft booster pack cards? How does that work?
@zhengjing1 Yeah, if not for the Blood Moon, Path to Exile could have been used on the Splinter Twin's target, maybe coaxing two life out for Spellskite's activation (although he may have just payed a blue, which I would hope). Then 2x Bolt to the player.
I think, though, that the Italian player had no chance of losing the game on that last turn with the cards we saw.
@xLegendaryPete
Its Modern. Look at the description.
For some it helps with there nerves, it keeps your hand mixed, it's like sitting there and twiddling your thumbs.
@captRhay i still wasn't sure how Paul's board ended up getting cleared at the end of Game 1. I'm not watching it again either. If they are going to spend so much money on the camera crew, they could at least keep the cameras where they belong. I mean how hard is it to keep it pointed at the board state?
@misterhalo2007 the fetch lands he is getting has plains or islands as a subtype
@captRhay They're just doing the same live commentary that they do at the Pro Tour. People like Evan Erwin used to make rundowns of matches to no avail. This coverage is pretty much the best you'll be able to get with the speed at which players are going.
Watched this match too many times, Samuele is my hero, reason why I started playing magic...
@ThePlop43 Understood. I started on the begging of scars. Don't know all this yet.
Unless there was an instant in a grave already, shouldn't Josh use a lightning to do 3 and have goyf have 1 extra power for the 2 times it hit?
Im going to give you a response ONLY 9 YEARS LATER. With the benefit of handsight and total information of both hands and drawn cards, yes that may have been a good plan; but Josh would have been exposed to Pestermite combo any time without answers; and that's not a position you wish to be. Um in the end of game 2 the camera is at a horrible angle you cant see what is happening on the board on the few last winning plays.
@Kingofredeyes do you have the vid of the battle of wafo-topas? i want 2 c this
I still can never get how they shuffle those cards inside sleeves so easily.
is there any way to get one of those magic the gathering tables?
This pro tour is from 2011 and I believe was one of the first if not the first modern pro tours before many of the current bans were in place.
@stewpidazzle
G1 Goyf was 3/4.
It got killed by firespout + bolt, as said in the video
@tuber856 These guys are winner-types, this is a tournament, it's a not just a fun game with friends.
Quick question, IS this Standard? cause Bant charm is from Shards, And thats not in Standard right now
@PCzproductions yeah. if you have money for it, spellskite can help you as well.
What's the enchantment that estratti uses to make infinite faeries?
@Joe11Blue
You're streaming a video. You can skip to it if you're really bothered by it.
Does noone else notice estratti scratching his balls at the VERY start of game 1? LOL
Was Utter-Leyton just hoping Estratti would forget to redirect the 2nd bolt to Spellskite and just scoop?
@MagicTheGathering300 i dont think its on wizards.. you probably just need to add more cards to your deck
Bravo Samuele!! L'ultimo predict è stato assolutamente essenziale! Big five and thumbs up (=
4:20 it takes 2 to tango. Tango lands preview confirmed.
I want that table from this years pro-tour. It's super cool.
i dont always use 720p. but when i do, takes forever to buffer
How about we keep the camera on the table so we can see what's actually going on rather than looking at the backdrops and Estratti's face? We missed half of Game 1 looking at his face, and the wolf back drop.
@MagicTheGathering300 yeah but how do you expect wizards to fix that?
@XxMajorHaddenxX ya but it seems to me that they dont do much in a turn.
How is misty rain forest fetching duel lands?
What happened at 0:44:00 ? How did he win with 3 lives against the guy with 10 lives?
i'm trying to build the winners deck without spending much money, would you help me?
Are the Swiss rounds of this Pro Tour available to watch?
@CasparWilson I guess it's like chip shuffling in poker, pros do it as a way to constantly do something and not give away any tells
Why didn't I hear of this thing I live right near Philly
@TheAspiringOne He cant crack his fetch lands because blood moon makes them mountains, he has no way to generate white mana to path
Why does playing Splinter Twin on his 2/1 flyer win the game?
What am I missing?
What is the guy with the laptop noting?
@xLegendaryPete
its Modern format
@stewpidazzle
Goyf only cares about card types.
If there are 20 lands in the graveyard, that makes no difference.
Just count card types (land, creature, artifact, enchantment, instant, sorcery, planeswalker, tribal)
LOVING THE HD!!!!
Estratti è il giocatore più forte d'Italia, basta vederlo giocare... grandissimo!
+Diego Grifoni verissimo
i need one of these tables
@destroyarulez So you read Finals in the name, didn't want to know, and then clicked it? Sweet.
@Supergecko100 He fetched into a shock land, dealing 2 more damage plus the 1 from the fetch
Anyone else notice they spelled, well maybe I shouldn't ruin it, they spelled the winners last name wrong on the check?
@Travis7060312 no clue, but something to make more skill in the game involved would be great
Splinter Twin, it's from Rise of the Eldrazi
@PCzproductions just buy Splinter Twin, Exarch, and the draw spells and add counters.
12:00 What is Samuelle doing with his left hand? o_O
parece ser una cábala
is the combo of this deck, splinter twin, he create infinite tokens
@MrKaiizenn it was a moot point as he has spell skite. He can just redirect to it for 4 life. he was on 6.
I'm liking the quality Wizards! Keep it up!
Can't really say this today sadly 😞
@TheCollector8 Oh. Now I see it. I didn't realize that it untaps it & then it just makes another one & another & another. So why didn't they ban such a silly thing?
Winning a Pro Tour by playing Pestermite & enchanting it with Splinter Twin? That's ridiculous.
@captRhay He had a dispel and a deprive.
In game four, why didn't Josh Utter-Leyton use Lightning Bolt on the Pestermite?
MARX redirects it to the spellskite
no, he went through the whole pro tour and nobody seemed to notice.
@destroyarulez they uploaded the winner yesterday ..
@tuber856 they are playing for a couple thousand dollars not for 3 Boosters.
Why does the one guy keep wincing like he has to drop a deuce?
@indestructigamer thank you
I really want one of those tables!!!!
@destroyarulez Maybe they're not gonna show the semis
@misterhalo2007 the duel lands have basic land types.
they should have a no shuffling your hand rule while on camera so people watching can actually see what's in their hand i mean you can move it but this is ridicilous
it annoys their opponents as much as it annoys you. If you can break your opponents concentration for even a second they could make a mistake. Mind games are fun!
SPOILER-
Couldn't josh have won at the 1hr, 25Min mark if he had cracked his fetch lands, path to exiled the spellskite, then lightning bolted him twice??
11:52 is Samuele itching himself? o_O
OMFG why the fuck was the camera moving so much at the end of game 2!?!?!?
the coverage used to be SO BAD lol. Whenever game actions are taking place the camera cuts to their hands/faces lol.
I got scared at 20:01. Lord of the Unreal suddenly showed up so close. He isnt a friendly lookin dude either.
Interesting format...
Another good thing about this comment, also skips right to the gameplay.
This guys are very funny but very critial about MTG. I really like them.
umm.. why was josh losing three life from a fetchland? arent they only one life?????
cant fucking wait for a finals game where at the last match to win the tournament, someone have to muligan all the way to 0 cards because no lands in hand, maybe wizards will try to do something about it then.
14:18 - 14:51 consists of the guy on the right shuffling his hand around nonstop..
wow I think I just watched the whole thing... damn this is almost long enough to be a full-on fucking movie!
31:55 i kno that judge! its from my country! i feel special!
Magic has a much better reputation than Yugi- Oh. It's been for a lot longer as well, so no shock factor when someone plays.
Why didn't Josh just use the 2 Lightning bolts directly at Estratti? He could've won right there..
@tuber856 players at top levels tend to get extremely focused on the game and not think so much about being Mr. nice guy. As a result we see things where people can come off cold during a match but then turn around and be all smiles and joking with each other after the fact. @Travis7060312 It happens, happened to me before in a mtgo draft where I had 17 lands 23 non lands. Bad luck happens.
