This movie is really an eye opener. We are always looking for grander and richer things for love but eventually find our greatest love in the simplest of people.
Some trailers are done perfectly & those are the ones that stick with you forever. “You have a baby.... in a bar” has never been topped and is forever memorable.
From what I’ve gathered, it’s about a Woman who is about to get married but has to go back to Alabama to finally get legally divorced with her cousin. As you do in Alabama.
I have watched the ENTIRE MOVIE and NEVER found a scene that would imply that they were siblings. Both the male lead role(Jake) and female lead role(Mel) had different parents and neither of them called each other as brother or sister and neither of their parents called the other as their child. They were implied as second cousins in one scene.
they weren’t related, period. Andrew came into town, met Bobby Ray, who introduced himself as Mel’s cousin, and Jake told Andrew he was also a cousin because he’s sarcastic like that. Andrew then later asks Mel , when he finds out Jake and Mel are/were married, “are you at least 2nd cousins? 3rd?” (something around those lines), and Mel, who doesn’t know about the sarcastic line Jake said, doesn’t understand Andrew.
Honestly though, I was rooting for Andrew (Patrick Dempsey's character) when I watched this movie back then. I mean, he's handsome, rich and most importantly he loves her unconditionally.
The character development was really lacking in this movie. Like, why did she REALLY leave? And why go back to the guy who was drunk and vomiting at their wedding? There was really no reason given for her to leave him and not a good enough reason for her to go back to her ex.
This is Derek's life before Addison Montgomery, which was, in turn, before he accepted the job at Seattle Grace, became the Neuro attending and met Meredith Grey. Whew!
One of my favorites. A few sad moments, but great great movie. Reese and Josh were perfect in perspective roles. ❤❤ Many good actors in this movie and theme song lives on. 🎼🎼🎼🎼🎼
I came here from all the memes and House of dragon jokes and there is no incest whatsoever, the girl lies about her family name and when her fiancee drops in by surprise her friend has to act like his family house is theirs and they lived together coz they cousins... Then the ex pitches up and he's like meee? I'm her cousin too....she dated both these guys and married one of them
Orlando Yongco me? I don’t get it either. Why every time someone say something about incest then people will mention Sweet Home Alabama, did you bother to explain to me please?

It’s my favorite film too for as long as I remember but I have only watched it like twice which was over 10 years ago. Gotta re watch it to see why I chose this film as my fav. 🤞🏼
I don’t understand how Mel can just simply give up getting married to her new man. She had a career ahead of her with more stability. Until she re visits her hometown and suddenly throughout the movie misses being home and all of the sudden has feelings for her husband and how incompetent she thinks he is with his life. To turn all around and refuses to marry her new man. All that money wasted on the reception wedding and even moved the wedding to Alabama as opposed to New York. She basically selfish and doesn’t care for the fiancés feelings. Wtf
As i understood, the main lady had shot-gun wedding, when she was younger, then she moved on in her life, moved to NY, built good career, met a good wealthy guy. He proposed her, but they could not do it, cuz she was already married, she came back to her home land for getting divorce…
I still love this movie. I find it endearing. But it really bothers me that when she tries to leave her parents' house, she's wearing the same outfit she wore when she first showed up at her and Jake's house. That's what bothers me the most about this movie. 😂 Also, all you Patrick Dempsey supporters. I get it. But Josh Lucas is so hot. Those eyes. 😍
