i "became disabled" recently (got bad legs) and have been really putting off doing anything with my time. i find instructions really hard to follow, typically. i have no idea, but something about you and your guides are amazing. im modelling and doing things ive always wanted to try. im excited to create again and expand my pracitce as an illustrator! cant stress how much it means to me finding joy like this right now. thanks man, from the bottom of my heart. 😎👍

I had issues with my texture paint work not saving. I've since set the External Data to Automatically Pack Resources, and also made sure to save the texture image separately before saving the whole blender file, and also installed an add-on called "Auto Save Images". And I'm going to upgrade from 4.0.1 to 4.0.2 just in case that helps

you need to explain how to link the texture to be the one the model uses. I'm in the material preview mode, but nothing happens to the model itself when I paint. WHY WON"T ANYEONE TELL ME HOW TO OVERRIDE THE TEXTURE?

It adds the base color of the image to the model but i can't paint anything. I already checked the scale of the model, the image is set, uv is unwrapped, but when i try to paint it just don't go.
it is difficult to follow you: A white material is automatically created when adding a new cube with the nodes already setup, and the cube is all white + I can not paint on the cube itself unless I go to the color picker in the active tool

The texture slot button in the main window isn't on my screen. That bit is just empty so I think I'll have to add the texture on another window for some reason.

I followed the steps - I still don't see the texture paint on the model. I DO see it on the unwrap...I tried everything to make sure the correct material is assigned, and yes, I am in material preview mode.

By painting in blender you can just directly paint over the model in 3D. That's an advantage if you want to see how your model looks while you paint and saves the trial and error of painting things in another software and then importing it here just to notice that something isn't working Ofcourse, it's upto the individual how they want to do their thing. I'm experienced with 2D art enough to paint good with a potato brush, so Blender's basic interface is okay with me.

I have _nearly_ followed the steps, but what I've noticed something unusual, which is that it doesn't let me paint. Yes, I have checked the face orientation (blue on the outside), but yet it still doesn't let me paint it. I am not used to Blender 4.2 as I was used to 3.6.2, -but I dunno on "doubles"- _(since I'm reading the replies)_. Any *other* tips? I'll keep you updated if I have solved this before you respond. Thanks in advance! The mesh has no doubles, the orientation is correct, but it still doesn't let me paint. Let me know if you can. I am also on the Image Editor, yet it still doesn't let me paint somehow. I quite don't understand what's going on, so I'll be reliant on tutorials.

hi i have dowloaded a model from sketchfab and tried to recolour it it recolours it but only in texture mode it does not imply the paint in modeling mode
Well I would group the model together, then I would select it all to unwrap it. And then when I would apply a texture it would just go to a random spot on the model instead of the whole thing
Still not successful, are there addons to simplify the installation process? I keep going through tutorials but I get nowhere. Nothing happens when I try to paint and once again I followed the tutorial to the letter.
I may have to give this a go as I've almost talked myself into getting Substance Painter to texture my new model yet I've never even used it but need to add a new tool to my belt
so I'm creating a multiple dis-connected part model and whenever I make the UV map it only shows one item whenever I go to texture paint also requires me to make a new texture for every object. is there a way to color all parts without joining them?

It's crazy, the one thing, I keep forgetting to do is create a new image texture, after adding it, everything works out fine.

You can choose the texture in the texture node

yes, its just not quite as clean which doesn't matter too much

yes. I thought i mentioned that at the end. Blender now has a feature that it tells you if it is not saved

I would recommend understanding the basics but generally work on procedural texturing

I created the texture...and followed throughly....but in material preview mode....I don't see my paints...only I can see them in solid mode

U mean ur texture paint resetting back to ur base color/image? I've had that issue but it seems to only happen if I place Semmes
U can work around it by using the snippet tool to get a picture of ur texture paint and using that as the base color

Check unwrap and check texture is linked. Lastly check you haven't accidentally added a mask or texture to your brush

Check your unwrap is clean and check your texture is hooked up in the shader editor

Yes select them all and go into edit mode. Then unwrap
