THANKS for this very helpful video! I've watched a lot of so-called "*beginner* tutorials" for Blender but this is simply the BEST. Though you have 20 years experience you haven't forgotten about us beginners and more importantly you're a fantastic teacher at this. Thanks! 🙏
Hey been watching your channel for sometime now and think all your vids are fantastic - here may be a quick tip for you though - after adding an object (like around timestamp 36 mins) and you forget to make those initial adjustments and that menu in the bottom left disappears, instead of deleting the object and re-adding it back in you can simply just have the object selected and hit the F9 key to bring it back - if you have made an adjustment in edit mode it will not bring that menu back and you will have to delete that object or if you add a modifier it will then bring up a menu for that modifier you added to it depending on what modifier you add (sub-surf will allow you to change subdivisions) others may vary. Hope this is a handy tip you can add to your future videos. And keep up the amazing video's, love your work very inspirational.

Hey so with the planet I’m having a couple problems. Specifically for the part where you grab the crater that’s “too tall” when I go to select the edges and move them with grab it only moves them and the crater edges stay in place so if I sink it in I get some very broken edges? This has been so much easier than any other tutorial I’ve come across thank you so much! Figured it out, apparently I tried extruding first and it bungled it up so I had to undo and grab it
Grant: Problem with using the Nvidia RTX4000x series is the huge power consumption (> 250W on average), which makes creating and rendering projects very expensive.
Thankyou Grant for this very easy to follow tutorial! I am having an issue smoothing the torus during the render settings. I left click the torus but right clicking does nothing but move the cursor. Is there another way to bring up that popup?
14 minutes in and am loving this tutorial. Quick question. My cursor looks like a grid when I’m adding objects from the left menu. What is causing that display and how do I turn it off?
Mr Abbit, can i use blender 4 with the class on gamedevTV or do i need to fins an older version? and how different would the UI be if i use the lastest blender? Thanks and cheers. I forgot to mention it is the complete blender class.
Hi Everyone, i'm having the age old problem of, "My blender isn't like the one in the tutorial". As in 33:00, I don't have "ambient occlusion" or "screen space reflections" in my render tab. Why?
Hi Grant - Any chance you can do a proper video tutorial on sculpting with alphas and textures (with Blender 4). I keep getting horrible results, when I have a subd-4 an object (for high resolution) and I do the brush setting "stamp" the result of the ornament looks like geometry vomited.
@@grabbitt I have yes, It's quite an old video though - think you did it in 2.8. Any chance you can make a v4.0 doing a through breakdown/overview using brushes with alphas. Also with the proper/desired modifiers. For example, I use mulitres modifier and I keep getting horrible results when I try to use alphas.
Is there a way to just rest the layout view in shading tab. cause every time i try to adjust the windows i mess up and things go all out of wack i just want a button I can click on to just have it revert back to the default layout
Hello @grabbitt This tutorial video (as well as the 2nd part video) seems to have some age restriction set in place. My 12 year old kid can't open/play it, while I can. Is there any way you could fix this, please?
I think there's a setting which is aimed at children or not. For the sake of ease I always say it's not aimed at kids as I have to meet more requirements to allow this. I'm not sure I can change it once released
@@grabbitt First of all, let me tell you something I should have said in my first comment: I really like these Blender tutorials of yours. I really think that they are top shelf stuff. Second of all, many, many thanks for your kind reply. And now, my (humble) opinion about that age restriction technicality : it's not a problem at all if you set your videos to be "not made for kids". That's the name of the settings, I believe, you cand find it in the "Audience" section, where you have 2 options: "Yes, it's made for kids" / "No, it's not made for kids". But right below those 2 option though, you'll find another section: "Age restriction (advanced)". If you click to expand this section, you'll see other 2 options: "Yes, restrict my video to viewers over 18" / "No, don't restrict my video to viewers over 18 only". I think that you set your video(s) to "Yes, restrict my video to viewers over 18". And you definitely CAN change that one it once the video has been released, no problem. It won't affect the number of your views, it won't get you in any trouble at all. Short recap: a video CAN be watched by a kid even it's set to "No, it's not made for kids" (you don't have to change it, it's OK to leave it like that), BUT the age restriction has to be set to "No, don't restrict my video to viewers over 18 only". Don't get me wrong, it's pretty easy for me to let my 12 yo kid watch your tutorials by allowing him acces to RUclips via my account, but since your videos really don't show any "18+" content at all (at least this 2-part tutorial doesn't, anyway), I don't see any reason for him not being able to enjoy your content using his own account. If you get rid of that "18+" barrier maybe you'll get more young viewers/subscribers/avid learners. My kid would surely be one of them. Thank you again for your kind reply and for your work, which is amazing, please keep it up. You've just got yourself a new subscriber (the oher one is still standing by 😉). And finally, please excuse my English, I'm not a native speaker.
So at the 11:39 mark and moved monkey as you did then I moved the plane under it just to see suzanne sitting on the flat surface but if I rotate view so I'm looking at the plane from underneath I can't see the plane? Is that normal? Not new to Blender, just getting back into it and don't remember this issue. I like to see from underneath to make sure objects are firmly planted on the surface.
Well now at the 14:52 mark and after moving all objects onto the plane I instinctively tilted the scene to view from the bottom and I now can see the plane from the bottom where as it would disappear before
Very well explained process for beginners. I was going great until 'texturing'. When I change to the shading workspace, all my objects are 2D grey - not white even though my default cube has material white in the shader editor as in video. If I switch viewport to 'solid' they go 3D grey. Tried playing with material color but objects remain grey. Hoping Grant or someone is around who knows what I'm doing wrong - thanks
i have a question if i may, when extruding my third crater and using the invert I tool my crater starts separating triangles individually, instead of all the anchor points together like in the previous 2 craters. Any idea why?
i also faced this problem - for anyone else with this, in the 'Insert Faces' window that pops up on the bottom left corner after you've added a face, you need to tick off 'Individual' - you'll see this in 42:34,,, hope this helps!
Why doesn't my HDRI show up in the background of my object window? It's listed in the little thingy at the bottom (whatever it's called), and all's hooked up as it should be, at least I think so. Oh, and my render window is awfully bright, rendering the objects invisible. Update: turning off scene lights in render view fixed the brightness problem.
@@grabbitt I am now, and I do see the HDRI. However, the image looks completely different from viewport shading. Okay. checking Scene World bring back the HDRI in viewport, but all the plane's color and material output are gone. Thanks for the tutorial and for checking in with us plebes :).
Why am I stuck on the rotate part in the perpendicular view for some reason my cursor reads a rotation but the monkey head itself isn’t roatating do I have an option selected wrong?
@@grabbitt so good news I finally figured out what the problem was after a day of searching it was under the settings and transform tab of active workspace I had to uncheck everything I don’t know why it was checked by default if add this to your tutorial in the future if someone runs into it
@@grabbitt one other small issue the . Key on the numpad that zooms in isn’t responding and I’m unable to find any information on that online but I’ll worry about it later

Can’t add a bookmark I think it’s because downloads is selected in the system and recent section how do I unselect them
So at the 11:39 mark and moved monkey as you did then I moved the plane under it just to see suzanne sitting on the flat surface but if I rotate view so I'm looking at the plane from underneath I can't see the plane?
Top right of the viewport change to material preview mode
@@grabbitt Thanks but in material preview mode (as you are using in the video - between 'solid' and 'rendered') all objects are 2D dark grey.
@@angkorman4437 i'm afraid i dont know what's happened for you there. maybe share a screen shot with me and tag me on discord
@@grabbitt Thanks - I will follow up in Discord. I appreciate your time.
Perfectly explained, but why oh why record all that without Screencast Keys !? ;)
because they were not available for blender 4 at the time
Should I or should I not deleted my previous Blender Icon on my desktop after I reinstalled bender 4???
you might as well i guess. Although its not doing any harm
@@grabbitt ok my blender tutor 😁
i have a question if i may, when extruding my third crater and using the invert I tool my crater starts separating triangles individually, instead of all the anchor points together like in the previous 2 craters. Any idea why?
You may have some doubles
i also faced this problem - for anyone else with this, in the 'Insert Faces' window that pops up on the bottom left corner after you've added a face, you need to tick off 'Individual' - you'll see this in 42:34,,, hope this helps!
Which os is optimised for blender windows 10 or windows 11
I always go with the most recent, more because of the graphics card usually being optimised for latest releases
Are you in render preview
@@grabbitt I am now, and I do see the HDRI. However, the image looks completely different from viewport shading. Okay. checking Scene World bring back the HDRI in viewport, but all the plane's color and material output are gone. Thanks for the tutorial and for checking in with us plebes :).
during process i accidently bring to life hi-ler how can i fix it
wow
Why am I stuck on the rotate part in the perpendicular view for some reason my cursor reads a rotation but the monkey head itself isn’t roatating do I have an option selected wrong?
Sounds like youbhave some sort of bug?
@@grabbitt yeah I’ll retry tomorrow
@@grabbitt so good news I finally figured out what the problem was after a day of searching it was under the settings and transform tab of active workspace I had to uncheck everything I don’t know why it was checked by default if add this to your tutorial in the future if someone runs into it
@@grabbitt one other small issue the . Key on the numpad that zooms in isn’t responding and I’m unable to find any information on that online but I’ll worry about it later
@@GameMasterProducts frame selected. Have you got anything selected?

Yes, thank you. My problem is that I was constantly pressing i, so the incet shape changed@@grabbitt
46:16 When I move it only moves that part and not the entire crater
You may have doubles. See my video in my quick tips playlist
