👉 UPDATED VERSION for Blender 3: ruclips.net/video/ywR8HsNeXQQ/видео.html 👈 NOTE: If your UVs vanish from the UV Editor after you go back to Texture Paint mode, don't panic! They are still there, they're just not showing. Looks like there may have been a change in later versions of Blender. As long as the UV looks correct while you're in Edit mode it shouldn't make a difference and you should be able to paint just fine. If you want to continue seeing your UVs, try changing from the UV Editor to the Image Editor instead while you're in Texture Paint mode - that should show the UVs again 😊
I really love how you managed to run into all the errors one might face when they're starting off with texture painting, then explained the solutions. Well done and thank you!
I swear you're the only guy who knows what an ABSOLUTE BEGINNER actually is. Every other tutorial skips over things like setting up an image so that it is ready to paint
Thanks for the awesome comment :) Check out the updated version of the tutorial if you're on a later Blender version. Things are a little easier, but there's still a few gotchas along the way
Literally one of the greatest blender video tuts out there. I mean honestly this is gold. Its the difference between getting into competitions and winning them.

It's true it still works. It's sadly really wonky though. I was freaking out cause I tried doing texture after editing and this issue occurred. Thankfully you're correct and it still works.
I give you a thousand compliments because after dozens of tutorials you were the only one to make me understand how to use texture pain. Thank you and thank you and sorry for my English
ya me too the other ones go by really fast and assume you know all the short cuts or where everything is in blender and dont explain things well, but this one was really awesome
Awesome tutorial!!! What I really like here, is something most tutorials don't do: Mimic a beginner's steps with unwanted results and show what would happen and why and then what the solution is :-) 10/10
Thank you so much for this. I just finish sculping my first character, but I was about to quit because I couldn't find a good tutorial that teaches me how to paint, not even in blender cloud, and after searching so much I finally found your tutorial. I already saved your video in my 3D list. Thanks again.
THANK YOU! Thank you. I have viewed like 15+ videos on UV mapping, Textures, Texture painting but they ALL have left out, all of the little "gotchas" that you have finally covering in this video. So, frustrating when you do exactly what the tutorials say but you get NOTHING. Now I am finally getting the brush to actually leave behind a color. GREAT! and getting the results to the rendered view, and even exported to Unity, GREAT!
04:43 this part made me scream out to the heavens: I LOVE YOU! this was what I was missing and made it impossible for me to paint my 3d barn correctly. Thanks, SS
I've seen other tutorials explain the exact same topic but for some reason this video explains it so efficiently that it makes me understand it a lot easier. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you so much for a clear and concise 2.9 tutorial! It's surprising how few there are. You're a great teacher and good at simplifying and explaining things. I appreciate it! :)
Thank you so much. I have been scrolling through tutorials on texture painting for about an hour, unsuccessfully trying to figure out why my texture painting isn't working. Not only you showed me how to make it work, but also why it previously didn't work as well. Keep up the great work, thanks!
Another thing to note. When you are painting and your paint goes on the opposite faces, i.e. painting a face but paint goes to back of head, go to edit mode and select all your vertices and recalculate the normals. Now the paint will show up on the actual faces you want.
Screencast keys helps tons. You can copy and paste colours, place the cursor on top the coloured square, press CTRL + C and then go to the Fill Tool and CTRL + V with the cursor over the square and the colour from the brush will be pasted on the colour of the Fill Tool. Saves time eyeballing the colours again from the colour pallete.
Good tutorial, I never really did much texturen painting but maybe I should. By the way, instead of selecting single faces and hitting CTRL+L to select all connected geometry, just move your mouse over the specific area and hit L. To add another area to the selection, move the mouse there and hit L again.
Good tutorial! Theres way too many blender tutorials that just tell you what to do and not why you're doing it, the way you explain makes me actually understand what the different tools or settings do
Thank you! I have painted in a lot of 3D programs, currently learning Blender.. the way you mask out is SO foreign i would have never figured it out on my own.
Thank you!! This video was perfect! Just the right amount of detail and you used a recent version of Blender. Very happy that your video also looks great, not like a cheap webcam video of yourself. And I love the shirt you're wearing too! I just subscribed and I'll definitely be watching more of your videos!
this is the best blend tutorial in the world, in all other videoes ive watched they speak like you allready know the rogram insid out and they cut corners and dont describe the entire process.
For anyone using the tutorial file and having the problem that the material only effects the tree trunk: at 6:24 in the video, when he goes to the material tab, you'll notice (in contrast to the video), there are already two empty materials assigned. First delete these using the "minus" button on the right, then proceed further with the video!
I never did any live texture painting before, and wow, this is so much more convenient than taking the UV map and then painting the texture on it in a 2D image program; I've done a fair bit of that when making texture packs for Minecraft (Minecraft models are super simple, and it was still a pain). I am no artist, and this wont make me one, but workflow-wise this is so much better. Danke for the great tutorial, as ever. Also, I like your tshirts. ;)
Hehe, thank you for the comment und gern geschehen! The process could definitely be a bit simpler in Blender (compared to other tools out there), but it works and is free and it's a really nice and easy way to get some colours onto your 3D models 😄
When i switch to texture paint mode after the UV , my UV map is gone on the left. When i go back to edit mode it's there? Can't figure this out , you just switch to between texture paint & Edit mode seamlisly and it's just there ... for me it turns purple and the entire UV map is gone on the left hand side.
I'm having the same problem too. Right now I'm just struggling with the fact that I've done everything correctly (I believe), and I'm going to paint on a separate texture after already having painted one for a different part of the model, but I can't paint on this new one for some reason. And the UV map isn't visible, just the colour of the image
@@natthejar u might have to save it. if theres a star next to the image menu in uv unwrapping or texture paint it means its not saved and will delete it. also make sure its all correctly linked. blender guru talks about texture painting in his donut series if you need a second opinion

Great tutorial and refreshing narration! So many tutorials insist on using the same repetitive words and phrases. Your narration was efficient, easy to follow, and just descriptive enough. I can't praise it enough.

You can do that too :) That switches your workspace to UV editing and brings in a few additional panels. I figured I'd keep it to a minimum, but that's definitely another way to get there
Haha, I mainly know programs in the creative / visual space really and I'm not sure I'd really say I 'know' them. I know the basics (and love to teach), but I'm not an expert at any one of them to be honest. The closest one might be After Effects and Premiere Pro, but I do love spending more time with and learning more about Blender these days :D
2:00 was EXACTLY what I needed, I had to fix some issues with a characters texture, so I started with flat textures and GIMP, but the seams wouldn't quite blend on the actual model any more, and I was able to fix it with the help of this vid, thank you!!
You titled this film „… for absolutely beginers”. Honestly: I do not consider my self as Blender beginer but still you showed me many interesting tips 👍🏻
You're a delightful narrator. I have trouble absorbing information if the presentation of the material is flat. But I like the way you've done this tutorial, great! 👍
I play Epic conquest 2, and they uploaded a video of how they made their blender characters, and I saw the colouring was so nice but complicated, and I've been searching for an easy tutorial and this is The Best!, I was super happy when I found this video!

You can do that too :) That switches your workspace to UV editing and brings in a few additional panels. I figured I'd keep it to a minimum, but that's definitely another way to get there
One of the best texture painting tutorial for absolute beginners! Thanks a lot!
Glad to hear you think so :)
Great intro my dude! I love the Texture Painting workspace in Blender :)
Thank you for the comment :D
Now i don´t have an excuse to paint my little modelings. Thank you so much for this!
You're very welcome :)
Dude, how do you know so many programs, I've seen you in so many tutorials. You are insane
You’re very welcome and thank you for the comment! Glad to hear the video helped you :)
This video saved me after how many hours of struggling....not all heroes wear capes
Haha, no cap nor hero here, but I’m glad to hear you found the tutorial helpful :)

Glad to hear you found it useful!
You titled this film „… for absolutely beginers”. Honestly: I do not consider my self as Blender beginer but still you showed me many interesting tips 👍🏻
Thank you very much for the comment! Glad you liked it!
im new to this and for me its black magic
Haha! If you check out my (or other people's) beginner series it'll feel a whole lot less like magic in no time 😀
Finally the tutorial what we all need💪

You're a delightful narrator. I have trouble absorbing information if the presentation of the material is flat. But I like the way you've done this tutorial, great! 👍
I legit just keep coming back here because texture painting is something I forget frequently XD
I gotta do an updated version of this tutorial - it's gotten a fair bit simpler now in Blender :D
I play Epic conquest 2, and they uploaded a video of how they made their blender characters, and I saw the colouring was so nice but complicated, and I've been searching for an easy tutorial and this is The Best!, I was super happy when I found this video!
Excellent tutorial, really good style of talking about it. Thanks!
Glad you liked it!
This helped a lot usually the tutorial that I see rather very vague or go super fast
Glad to hear!
That is brilliant! Many thanks, Surfaced Studio. Brilliant tutorial. Blender is so amazing.

Glad to hear you found it helpful :)
gg bro you really are a mastermind in blender i watched so many other tutorials and struggled thanks for the great video
Thanks for the comment bro! Really glad to hear you're enjoying my style of tutorials :)
For those people where object is still black, in setting, below color wheel, delete texture and mask texture, worked for me. peace
Yeah it’s usually something already setup that might interfere. If in doubt just reset Blender to default settings :)
Tip: you can also select inverse with ctrl+i to go from having only the trunk selected to only the leaves selected.
Yes! Blender has tons of useful shortcuts :) I cover some (but not nearly all) in my new beginner tutorial series - ruclips.net/video/3uEsPWjq4q0/видео.html
Wow! Didnt expect such a good tutorial. Great work! Keep it up :D
Glad you liked it!
