My son drives the G40 junior cup, I've had a go in it (since I was the one that bought it!) around BH and can say that the feeling in AMS2 in VR with a 3 dof rig is on par with how it felt in the real thing. Obviously no external forces can be felt but the driving feeling feels almost like for like, tried it without the 3dof and still a great job at recreation. I've also driven the Mazda MX-5 around Silverstone and tried it in iRacing and it's not even close, they feel like different things. I can't talk about the other cars in the game but the G40 is spot on and if they have done to that what they have done to other classes then it's in a good place.

Rev, you're showing a lot of integrity throughout this video. It's appreciated, and please keep it up! I would like to point out one thing that I think detracts from the experience of racing: the dashboard never seems to move in relation to the helmet/POV. I believe it is possible to adjust that in-game, but if I'm wrong, then that is something I would like to see... a little more jostling of the driver inside the car.

Nice one, mate. You never came across as a fanboy. I think your enthusiasm and honesty are a strong point of your channel. In terms of the AI, I do think they are better. However they are still way too easy to exploit under braking. I’m looking forward to the brake and acceleration sliders that were teased in the beta. I think that’s going to be a game changer if they can get it to work properly.
@@SuperslowRacing Firstly thank for the comment about enthusiasm I appreciate that matey! Secondly, brake sliders? That's the first I've heard of this! So that would control how late the AI would brake or something?
@ yes. The additional AI performance sliders for braking and acceleration behavior didn’t make the cut for this update. In theory, you should be able to fine tune the AI to your abilities even better.
Thanks for showing some real racing in a realistic and competent manner. Videos like this allow anyone serious to evaluate whether the game is something that should appeal to them and illustrates some of the differences in 1.6 vs 1.5 via your narration. Respect.
In my experience, it's not easy to find the sweet spot in terms of car/track/settings. But when you hit it, this sim offers one of the best racing experiences I've ever had. That was a pretty fun race. AMS2 is a very interesting project, and is heading in the right direction, although still lacks some things. 1.6 was another step forwards. I'm really looking forwards to see what they deliver this year. Thank you for being objective. It's a rare trait in RUclips nowadays.
I just picked this game up 2 days ago in autumn sale, only got the base game now due to limited budget but still I'm having a blast playing different cars on so many different tracks.
I agree with your comments on negativity. If I absolutely detest a sim I won't waste my time going around every youtube video on it slagging it off, what is the point in that? Yet that is what I see happening. I like almost all the sims, some more than others. At the moment AMS2 is my main focus as it's brilliant, but I also love raceroom, LMU and AC. Even iRacing has some positives ( although I find the driving very dull compared to AMS2/RR ). Oh, and the lighting in AMS2 is unbelievable now, I was racing the Ginetta last night and kept getting distracted by how awesome the light hitting the windscreen was at certain parts of the track.
Exactly Mike! I don't watch videos on stuff I don't like. That makes no sense to me. Glad you are enjoying it mate, what track was the Ginetta on?? Thanks 😊

Great video. I'm 65, been playing sim racing for 9 months with wheel. Mostly on GT7, ACC and lately on AMS2. Imo, both ACC & AMS2 are better than GT7. ACC would be a bit better than AMS2 on the whole but, however, if you are going for VR headset, the whole immersion in AMS2 is way better than ACC.
VR isn't hugely high on my priority list I have to admit. I tried it and wasn't a fan as amazing as it looks it made me sick. Also with streaming recording etc I just think it's better to see my ugly mug rather than a headset 🙂🙂. Kudos to you mate, hope I'm just like you when I'm 65 💪💪💪

Hi! I think 1.6 update is great. The handling and FFB are now fantastic. However, about the AI I still think it is quite week. When you battle with cars in front it's good and a lot of fun. However, as soon as you pass a car, it never tries to get the position back and within a couple of laps the gap is quite big. The problem is that because of this you can focus on passing the car in front but don't need to worry about the car behind.
You missed something important though, which Jake from GPLaps highlighted in his video: the AI never manages to overtake on braking zones. They move, they attack but they always back down. They try to push for an overtake mid-corner, which is futile and unrealistic. They only manage to overtake on a straight line.
I dont think you can give a informed opinion on the AI with a 10 lap race. The AI with 1.6 have regressed heavily in pit stop logic. They have reverted to taking pit stops far more frequently than they should, they pit maneuver the player far too frequently, they have super unnatural tank slapper moments at multiple tracks, and they still cannot draft and overtake properly and will run ass to nose in a very unnatural way.
Iracing AI is by far the best AI in sim racing. AMS 2 is good at maintaining pressure but they spend way too much time in single file trains. In iRacing they move in and out of line as if to take a peek at an overtake, much the same as human drivers. It looks more realistic than the 20 car train all driving on the racing line you get in AMS 2. And, if they do move off line in AMS2, it will be the same spot every lap, then right back to single file.
En 1.6 existen nuevos parámetros , quizás debes darle una nueva oportunidad, logré hacer algunas carreras entretenidas , por supuesto siempre hay lugar para mejorar. Saludos
I agree with you. I didnt keep track of the updates, just didnt expect anything much, thought ah right just another patch, not botherred, went into it and it was like a new game not only in the great UI improvements but the handling is really much deeper and satisfying. Even prefer it over ACC now as you can drive other cars, and they are mostly all done very well. Caterhams feel very interesting to drive now and you can get a lot of feeling from Formula Trainer Advanced.
Wish you showed the ai configuration part. How adjusting aggressive and number of incidents etc.. I tested and was really happy with the ai. AMS2 in LFM is the best sim racing out there.

What I notice when I drive the Ginetta G40 against the AI they will sometimes drive in a train and you can’ overtake them without they push you off track.
People who give hate & say its not as good as iRacing forget that iRacing has been developed over a period of 2 decades & by a bigger team of devs. Iracing is probably at update 160.16.1
You're right about the hype aspect, the hype leading up to/launch of 1.6 will not influence whether I like 1.6 or not. I'm an adult, I can do that for myself. The things I liked in AMS2 before are better now, so why stop playing? I've said for a while, some Reiza cars and especially some mods handle very, very well. Now the LMP2s prove the potential is there to wring that handling out of all the cars. Hurry up 1.7.

AI racing is a big deal for me. I do plenty of LFM and online but AI is something that I mostly prefer. I'd say at the moment LMU has to be the best in the business right now with AMS2 coming in second. I'd like to see the AI in AMS have a little more confidence going into the braking zones against each other. You'll find they often backout a little early against a fellow AI competitior and it often leads to less overtakes. I'm sure they will tweak that because Reiza always do in the long run!
@@ReverendSimRacing Definately give it a go, mate! I have no idea what black magic they did to achieve the AI but it feels so natural. Gives you a huge grin seeing them close the door or how impressive the faster classes fly by you. If you do give it a go, I hope you record it to a video!

Also, I've been playing lots of RaceRoom since the free period start. The only thing I think RR does better than AMS2 is that the AI is competitive from lap 1. AMS2' AI is very confused during the first lap. They drive slowly, do brake tests (RR AI does this too). But AMS2 has a far superior AI than other sims, such as RaceRoom, Assetto Corsa and even Automobilista 1.

I had to say in the months leading up to the 1.6 release i would pop on steam and read the discussions on the AMS2 page , and have to say it was bloody embarrassing what people were posting! Ok reiza were a bit premature in there release date and i think it didnt do them any favors {i think they were just excited at what they were achieving} and moving on i think they have changed their tactic , but grown men behaving like children ... that's low. Still on to the AI ... my take on it is the modern mini always raced without fault .. and i can see that level has spread across many of the different cars/tracks i have tried. Im sure many cars havent had that full treatment yet , but im sure they will. Personally it's nice to have the game have new life breathed in to it , which it certainly has!
Since the update came out it made me want to race again, last time i did was 8 months ago on ACC but the new physics on AMS brought me back to it and its honestly so much better now,all the haters are just trolls and elitists saying "oh but le mans ultimate is so much better bla bla bla" yeah right that's why it has 500~ ish players. They'd be better off living in their own bubble without being toxic everywhere esle but they're all just petulant man-children,as usual with the SIM racing community but oh well!
The ai still don’t overtake each other. Watch the grid positions on the left throughout the whole race - they never overtake each other. They never change position.
@@Super123ps I have to say that I can understand why that would upset some, for me, it's the race they give me I care about. They look racey and look like they jostle (is that a word) for position so that's enough to immerse me ☺️
My issue with the update is that some less popular cars were negatively impacted by this update and these are cars that are unique to AMS2 and that I used to enjoy a lot. Rallycross after the update is absolutely horrible, by toning down the bumpiness and slidy feeling to make GT3s feel closer to their ACC equivalent, they made rallycross feel lifeless. The Copa Classic B cars, especially the FWD also suffered from that update. Now some (especially newer) cars definitely benefited from this update, but these are mostly cars other sims do as well or sometimes better. I did not really like the way GT3 cars felt in AMS2 but that was fine, I just played ACC instead, but now that my beloved Uno feels completely lifeless, I can only hope Reiza fixes it because no other sim offers a version as good as the pre 1.6 AMS2 version. As for honesty & hype, yes, you can say what you want, and I am absolutely not implying you are not giving your honest opinion, but let's not pretend it is not easier to do that when what you want to say happens to be what your audience wants to hear and what Reiza wants reviewers to say. If you were to agree with me that the update made Rallycross horrible, it would probably be wiser to refrain from voicing that opinion right now considering how strong the hype still is.
@@SamToulouse Those cars you mentioned I haven't driven son on that I cannot comment. I bought this game and DLC with money I earned in my day job, Reiza give me nothing I have no reason to say 'what Reiza wants'. As for my audience well lots of people won't agree with me but that's totally ok? If they don't they don't but I always put across my opinion and my opinion alone it's not fact. If they don't like it they can tell me but it won't change my opinion. I'm not trying to change anyone's opinion here. If you don't like it then you don't It affects me not. @@ReverendSimRacing I can, at least for now, rollback to 1.5, but the fact that the AMS2 specific cars were "victim" of that update concerns me a bit. I completely understand GT3s are popular and that having decent GT3s has become a requirement for every sim now (and proto are starting to be a "must have" as well), but if things continue in that direction, we will end up with sims that focus on the exact same content which would be a bad thing.

I almost only race open wheelers, with some le mans type cars. AMS 2 is still pretty bad. Can be fun, but the errratic , slidy behaviour of the cars is always there. It is nowhere near Assetto, LMU, RR, Iracing (dont really like that one) It is still recommendable for newbies beacues of the out of the box ease of use, informative FFB, somewhat acceptable AI (only because AI is quite bad in most other sims) and content.

Physic wise it is better than Forza, GT and the F1 games.

So freaking annoying. Still ddont understand how some corners are just made of ice and some are made of glue. Cant imagine thats how it is in rl.
Ps.

You definitely get stuck to AI, if you make contact at some corners it's like you can't turn. I've had that and it can be frustrating! 👍
@@PiccoloLost that's fair enough matey! I've been pointed to some custom AI files so I'm going to be trying them when I get time 😀👍
You missed something important though, which Jake from GPLaps highlighted in his video: the AI never manages to overtake on braking zones. They move, they attack but they always back down. They try to push for an overtake mid-corner, which is futile and unrealistic. They only manage to overtake on a straight line.
03:27 Doesn't the Porsche go past the Ginetta in the braking zone? Maybe just before? Thanks for the info matey 😊
@@DustySticks As i don't really run for longer than 10 laps due to time it's the best I can do I am afraid.
@@daydr3amscr3am42 Well Ive never driven iRacing so I can't comment to be fair on that one as I have no experience 🤔😊

I don't quite understand the last part as I'm not a Reiza reviewer? I bought this game and DLC with money I earned in my day job, Reiza give me nothing I have no reason to say 'what Reiza wants'.
As for my audience well lots of people won't agree with me but that's totally ok? If they don't they don't but I always put across my opinion and my opinion alone it's not fact. If they don't like it they can tell me but it won't change my opinion.

They do sound great, except for the AUDI, might sound real I don’t know but sounds crappy to me, lambo sounds good, gt3
@@chucknowakowski6676 I'd have to say the Audi sounds like I remember it from watching GT3's in real life, a bit quieter on the game so you may no be an Audi fan for real ☺️👍
Leave it to us northerners to call a spade a spade.
@@martin-hall-northern-soul I was told that was not allowed to be said anymore which is a saying I say all the time so had to change it! You are very right on the Northerners 😉
@@ReverendSimRacing Ayup Rev, ‘they’ do seem to enjoy making mountains out of molehills these days. I shall dig a little deeper next time. Typical me, digging my own grave with a throwaway line again. Probably for’t best at your end, could land up to your neck in it. All I can say is, good job I didn’t use the one about shovelling… then eh 😊Keep up the good work mucker.
@martin-hall-northern-soul thanks matey! I got told off for my Mrs for saying it but I had no idea!
@@kiekiek Well that's enough positives for me matey 😂👍
@@ReverendSimRacing I was too harsh, turned out I used a very bad custom FFB file. After playing more of 1.6 I think AMS 2 is a good racing game. Physic wise it is better than Forza, GT and the F1 games. Out of the box it just works (no Assetto or RF 2 fiddling here) .It looks great, runs very well, good amount of tracks and cars and AI is above average. It offers a very fun racing experience that I would recommend over pretty much all sims if one can only buy one and do not care about so called 'real world' physics (whatever that is, I never drove F1 or LMP like 99,9 percent of all users)
@@kiekiek That's great news mate! I'm going to do a settings video at the weekend to try and help people get a good setup for them 😀
the ai is better then pc2, pc3, ac, ams1, rf1, and so on.
It's very good to race against and keeps me immersed which is all I can ask for 😀👍
3:47 - I'd like to meet the person who thinks that GT3's are "non-aero" cars lolololol
@@viperion_nz didn't think of that one to be fair good shout!
Yeah I almost spilled my water... Having said that though, GT3s feel off, but even the dev recognized that already. There is definitely a weird lazzyness to their behavior. But whatever, if I want to race GT3s I have ACC, for me, in AMS2 they are just for the field to feel complete in multiclass. There is so much better cars to drive in AMS2 and things you don't find elsewhere that it does not bother me. 1.6 is amazing from my end.
@kevinhadj82 Love it Kevin mate! Like Mike at SimRacing604 said yesterday, certain Sims have certain strengths and depending on what you want to do you will always have a 'go to' sim to do it! We have such choice these days!
I will not watch this video at all. Same with further discussion here in the comments. I'm here just to be honest about this AMS2 new update hype.
Version 1.6 was the last chance I gave to this title.
------>FAILED.
@@micham136 You are entitled to your opinion mate. Thanks for coming and all the best 👍
Imagine, clicking on a video just to say you have no intention of watching it. Bravo sir, way to waste your own time.
@instruktorCM 🤣🤣
