The thing with asm2 is that it doesn't do one thing perfect but it does everything well enough. Its the most balanced and polished simrace experience I found to date. Even things like motion telemetry for motionrigs are far better than any other of the major simrace titles (For instance AC has terrible motion imo). Everything just works every time unlike most other simrace games where there is always that one thing that never works right.
The one annoyance I had with ams2 before this patch was the menu on triple screens having to go to outer edges to click "ok" but even that is fixed now 👌

No, the multiplayer server is just not good enough without a dedicated server.
I want to use AMS2 as the main sim for our league, its FFB and sim features are better, but so far our hopes are in ACEvo, because a league is by definition, multiplayer.

@NicolayGiraldo to be fair the p2p system 'should' be fixed in 1.6.
I'll get a good test tonight with GTL here in Oz. They have run dedi servers for the most part sure to the instability of p2p.

@@NicolayGiraldo Yeah not to be a jerk but I personally don't care about leagues and competitive racing. I'm whats called the immersive simracer. And from what I gather about ACEvo its more focused on the driving experience than anything else so i'm happy. 😅

Yep, they've done a great job with this update. One thing not mentioned, and which unfortunately this video doesn't show, is just how well it performs (this video looks like it's running at 30fps).
    I've just done a test:
    48 car grid
    Nordschleife
    Time x20, Variable Weather
    3440*1440 Resolution, 2 frame buffer
All settings on Ultra (or High if there's no Ultra option) except Motion Blur which is Off.
With V-Sync Off, it hovers around 180 to 200 FPS most of the time, dropping briefly (a second or two to ~110fps) at sunset/sunrise when the shadows are extremely long, and as it enters the Heavy Rain weather setting. Put V-Sync on and it just sits at 165fps, you still get the drops mentioned, but I had to just watch the frame counter to notice them.
Doing as close a comparison as I can, ACC delivers 70 to 110fps (though you can turn DLSS on to crank up the famerate if you don't mind the blur), iRacing 90 to 180fps, in both any frame drops are longer, and more noticeable. I can't do the same test in Raceroom (no night racing or weather), but that thing will sit at 200+fps during World War 3, so it wouldn't be fair anyway.
My two biggest gripes with AMS2 were the the vague handling and the cartoony shaders that made it look like a Nintendo game. Both have been dramatically improved with this patch. I think the new UI is shockingly bad, it looks like a bad website from the 90s, but I can live with that.
If more people played Raceroom, it'd be my go-to sim, but they don't. Now, if AMS2 takes off on LFM, I might finally ditch that iRacing sub...
    Tested on:
    165Hz 21:9 Monitor
    i7-14700KF @3.4GHz
    64GB DDR5 RAM
    RTX 4080 Super
Games installed on NVME M.2 SSD

Dont have to worry about mods, shaders, ai driving lines. Ive been on the journey with AMS2 for awhile now. Felt the pain at times, but the support and determination but Reiza was always there, which is lacking in other sims.

One thing I don't like is how sensitive the breaks are on formula cars that have no ABS.... they need to fix this... I mean trail breaking in a modern formula car without locking is absolutely impossible so you pretty much opt to just engine break and lose time because otherwise you're destroying your tyres which makes no sense...
Overall great update... for GT3s you still need to go to ACC which feels better (which makes sense since it's a niche game about GT3 specifically) but overall this is what you need to be playing at least until AC Evo comes out.
Great job by the devs at Reiza... and to those that say that cars slide too much in AMS 2, you should go watch a professional high level driver and watch how they throw the car into every turn like maniacs and that the car doesn't spin just cause you throw it into the turn aggressively...
AMS2 is a realistic sim racing title and a very good at that... only one kind of car I would race elsewhere is GT3... although GT3s are also massively improved with 1.6 and if you don't have ACC AMS2 is still a fantastic race with GT3s, just 3-5% less realistic than ACC in my opinion... even though AMS2 setups are way more realistic than ACC's because if you put an ACC setup on a real car you'll be going ONLY to the barriers and certainly not reaching the end of the race...

Good review John. I gravitate towards AMS2 because I do a fair bit of offline as well as online as when I just want to burn a few laps and have a giggle its quick to setup, the AI is decent and on my aging GTX1650 it still holds a steady 60 FPS with all options to high (not ultra). Do I wish it felt like Raceroom or rFactor2? Definitely, but the latest incarnation has got rid of my biggest gripe of pre 1.6, where you can just chuck it at a corner and gather it up by magic in the middle. I don't race a ton online but when I do its quick and easy and the peer to peer hosting is a simple "just works" solution. If online stability has improved like they hope then will be a big win. I'm there are tons of "game changing" physics going on, but I really only feel a huge different in corner entry which I think it what was largely broken before. Thanks for the heads up on the AI strength changes. I missed this in the change log and was trying to figure out how the AI had become OP when on same settings :)

I basically agree. My favourite is still AC. I've been in computers all my long life and I actually enjoy experimenting with CSP and Pure. Also, let's not forget Content Manager which will never be beaten by anyone as the best UI, record keeper etc. etc. What I love about AMS2 is that the developers are a great bunch. They listen, they observe reactions and they keep working towards perfection with the tools at their disposal. The AI is really good, which is very important to people like me who don't like online racing. Out of the box graphics are the best, we expect AC EVO to be better but we will have to wait and see. Their range of tracks is excellent. All in all the best all round out of the box racing sim.

Thing I love about AMS2 I'd just how easily it runs on potatoes. Especially with VR. Very well optimised. I noticed that things like distant trees still looked great, but they were simply sprites. I heard they've updated visual things like that, so yet to try it after all the updates. But even on low settings, it still looked better than what I can get AC to do. Runs 100x better than ACC for VR 😅

I haven't driven the update yet, been enjoying all the unlocked content on raceroom that they're currently doing.
I loved ams1. So much I spent the $100 pre-ordering ams2 fully expanded when it was announced. But, it has glass tires, it never feels like you can really attack corners like raceroom, ams1, or pc2 allows for. Also, ams2 is pc2 based, but pc2 has better environments. The tracks are much more alive with spectators and banners and the heat effects coming off the pavement. Jump into Bathurst across the 2 games and you'll immediately see the difference.
Speaking of pc2, way better sounds than ams2. And I'll argue all day that no sim has touched pc2's dirt physics which are criminally overlooked. Weird how bad ams2's rallycross cars are since it's based on pc2.
I want ams2 to be good. It's ffb is some of the best. There's such a good core game there, but I find the glassy tires, poor sounds, and lackluster environments that I just don't feel immersed and enjoy driving it. I enjoy those other titles more, even though ams2 should beat them on paper. Time to check out 1.6 and see if they moved the needle.

    • @Krautastic
      @Krautastic 7 дней назад +1

@happilyaverageracer drove the update. Agreed on your video, probably the best balanced sim out there now. The tire model used to feel... Greasy? Like how fresh racing tires that haven't been scrubbed in feel, where initial bite and mid corner grip felt too slippy. The cars feel like you can put them into the corner with confidence now. I've always lamented how some driving sims make the top tier cars incredibly difficult to drive, when a competitive car is going to employ good settings to maximize grip and stability... In some sims, like raceroom, the Porsches can really feel too light in the front, despite big splitters. The update here really has cars feeling really good across the board.
I still think raceroom beats it for sounds. As a touring car fanatic I also prefer raceroom content over the heavy open wheel content in ams2, would love to see the old fwd Brazilian stock cars make an appearance.
Also, ams2 really benefits from applying an Nvidia post effect filter (alt+f3) to warm up and saturate the tones and sharpen details, but it is a really good looking game and the ffb is one of the best and now tires/physics to match. AI is fun to race too. I'll be splitting my time between raceroom, ams2, and wrc generations (with physics mod) now.

I’m surprised how much I’ve enjoyed Raceroom races online the past couple of weeks (having never tried it before!) but it’s an old sim & it shows. ACC races are fun online, but only if you like GT2/3/4 cars. AC is fun but also showing its age, yes even with mods. AMS2 handling has improved so much, to me it doesn’t feel so different to AC or RF2 anymore, and I think it still has promise to improve further. I don’t think any other game is better for F1 (especially with skin mods!)

@@happilyaverageracer he wins the booby prize for first person to say "Simcade", an altogether meaningless term meant to throw shade.

Funny enough some simcades like PCars 3 and even Grid Legends are better in simulating a car as an actual physical object in space. I'd say even Grid Autosport on the Switch sometimes makes more intuitive sense compared to AMS2. AMS2 is really good at explaining through FFB what is happening and why, even when what's happening is pure nonsense.

Simcade is a design choice and Reiza didn’t make that design choice. Lazy trolling get back under your bridge .

Gamer Muscle probably still doesn't drive & he's trying oh so hard to attract the young crowd with his 'fanboy' obsession every time someone disagrees with him...his channel is tired & repetitive so I guess he's trying to come across as some kind of technical expert, which he demonstrably isn't. Your content is logical & based on your perceptions actually playing the sim, that's rare these days with all the inflated egos around :)
