This car is immensely interesting. A two-time DTM drivers' champion by way of Hans-Joachim Stuck and Frank Biela, it was positioned as Audi's answer to the -BMW 5-series and Mercedes E-class- (EDIT: whoops, turns out it's even larger than that - a 7-series and S-class rival). The DTM cars had units displacing just under 3.6L, which was the first engine available for the car before a 4.2L V8 became available about three years into the car's life. Oh, and it obviously Quattro AWD, de riguer for Audi. Big and heavy, it was capable but not unstoppable - Mercedes's flyweight 190E Evo 2 (the one with the massive wang) stole the manufacturers' title off it in 1991 before Audi departed the series mid-1992. But like, stop and think about that. A cross-plane V8 with twin cam heads, two carbon airboxes, and an 8500 rpm redline. Think Cadillac V-Series.R, but _rectangular_ this time. This thing sounds every bit as pornographic as that description suggests. The game depicts this wonderfully. One more for the road: this car wasn't banned from DTM for the use of AWD, as one might expect. The Alfa 155 was built to Class One DTM regulations, so it’s quicker than the Group A DTM cars (pre 1993) in the game. So we’d probably need the Class One Mercedes at least to have some competition.

I kept coming back to AMS2 after each big update but the thing that put me off was the handling. Handling now is a lot better and with LFM i think i will be playing more AMS2. Had a good race with AI. It's looking promising,
Unlike Jake, this era is my jam (though not necessarily this series - Aussie Group A is my niche). It started as a support series for domestic German Group C sports cars, but over the course of the 1980s the sports cars slowly died and the fans got more and more excited by the tourers, until in the early 1990s DTM was being fought at a savage intensity, Mercedes vs BMW vs Audi. By then it wasn't really Group A any more, it was Group A+, Group A Enhanced. The Audi was fast but heavy, managed a couple of titles, and once they pulled out the third manufacturer role was taken up by Alfa Romeo and their beautiful 155. They then dropped any pretense of being tied to production cars and rolled out a new 2.5-litre formula with virtually no limit on technical innovation, but that's a story for another day. I've been doing a Richie Axelson in this era with my own made-up driver, Reinhard Bielenberg, and I'm coming up to the seasons when the lack of an Audi in rFactor will be a problem. Are there enough tracks that AMS2 might fill the gap?
Ams2, I bought in 2020 for the CART cars. Also liked the group c and late 80’s f1. Didn’t like the 1.4 update and group c tire debacle. That’s what I’m hoping will be approved
I'm hyped up for the update but a little disappointed that the GT Classics class is basically untouched since the inception. As you said: The pairing of the Corvette and the 911 RSR is horrendous and not much fun. It needs at least 4 other cars to have good races. But I'm hopeful that there will be a huge classic car roster when they drop classic Le Mans.
Did my 1st race and finished 3rd. Almost won it but I was called into the pits for some reason with a few mins to go. Either way it was great. Hope to race against you soon!
Was your fuel low? IIRC, the pit board will show "SCHEDULED" if you're low on fuel -- if not, it's possible the lobby had a mandatory pit stop, though I do not remember that forcing a pit board. Cheers.
@@Kuolema1337 yes, AMS 2 simulates it. Cars that have dog boxes CAN be shifted without the clutch as long as you blip the throttle downshifting and or are already in the medium/high rev range. Upshifts can be done without clutch if you lift or partially lift but this is more risky depending on the car. Upshifts have to be timed pretty good when you lift, some cars are more lenient than others. The downshifts are more dependent on the rev range your at when shifting, if your at medium to high revs then a small blip will certainly get into gear, and if your high in the rev range you can do it without blipping (still even more risky and needs even more good timing). If your low on the revs, even blipping might not get it into gear unless it's absolutely perfect which is very hard to do. So basically going through 6th to 3rd, perhaps even 2nd after a long straight while braking will work, as long as you shift fast to each gear blipping on the way. But going to 2nd from 3rd you'll really have to time the blip very well, especially if the revs and speed are low and you might as well tap the clutch since your probably done braking at this point If you don't time it right it will not shift though. And if the car does not have a dog box it will not shift. You might be able to get a few non-dogbox cars to shift without the clutch, but it is extremely extremely difficult and not guaranteed. I've tried it, and maybe 1 out of 5 shifts I can shift without the clutch in my testing. So obviously not worth doing clutch less shifting at all unless it is a dogbox. Heck, even with a dogbox on the upshifts I will still tap the clutch a tiny bit or half way since my left foot is usually not busy anyways and on long straights you want to be as fast as possible and a misshift will be very detrimental to your time. Otherwise I'll clutch less upshift when I feel confident and know I can time it right and know a potential misshift won't cost TONS of time, like during a slower or curvy part of the track unlike a long straight. Now with downshifting I almost ALWAYS clutchless downshift with dogboxes though, it only gets sketchy if your speed is very very low like around a tight chicane or a turn and your revs are low already, at that point I just tap the clutch. Going from 2nd to 1st or sometimes 3rd to 2nd depending on the car and speed.
@@kjp-sy8uf I just tap the clutch, or half clutch for the long straights even though the risk of a mishift is low, because the consequences of mishifting on a long straight (like old hockenheim) can have big time loss. Otherwise I will clutch less shift on the downshifts until maybe 2nd or 1st, especially on the slower corners like a u turn or tight slow chicane where the cars revs are low especially. If you let the revs get too low, then it becomes significantly more difficult to rev match and shift without the clutch.
