2009 was the best oscar year by far. Despite Avatar practically taking every award, every best picture nomination was a good movie. Hurt Locker won that uear.
Calm down guys. Sonic 3 isn’t eligible because the studio didn’t submit it for consideration in some categories. Even The Godfather wouldn’t win if it wasn’t submitted
That just doesn’t make sense. With a year full of stinkers their chances are a lot higher than they would’ve been let’s say 10-15 years ago. It’s a little bit of paperwork to potentially gain the highest award from the event. Especially when they’re slamming Disney in the box office to the point of them blatantly lying about it. By all means; if you know that for certain give a source and prove there isn’t a political reason for the best animated movie being shafted. This isn’t a one-off movie that just did well it’s a huge production in a series starring A-Listers.
@@SilverNinjatv It makes perfect sense, they I would've lost/wouldn't have been nominated anyway, so what's the point of doing extra work and submitting it for that category that it doesn't really belong in? Like, there were much better films that cater to Best Picture like Dune 2, Furiousa, and Wild Robot. Sonic 3 is, first and foremost, a kids' movie directed towards kids. It isn't thought provoking, it doesn't push boundaries, it isn't well animated, and the story is a little mediocre. Sonic 3 is a well-rounded kids movie at the end of the day, and I think the studio realized this and didn't bother submitting it. Also, I wouldn't exactly say that Sonic 3 slammed Disney so hard they started lying. It's more so that Disney's ego is so massive and thought Mufasa was a surefire hit, they made a bunch of marketing beforehand without accounting for Sonic 3
@ they’ve been saying for 2 weeks that it’s the #1 movie in America when by all metrics it’s not. It’s a blatant lie. That’s not marketing made before hand that’s cope made after the fact. A huge production studio not filling out a little paperwork that they know would boost marketing or the D&I criteria from 2 years ago not being met allowing for exclusion of a film. This smells and some people would prefer to blast it with febreeze to run defense rather than look at the obvious agenda being pushed by the arbitrary and insular criteria and acknowledge the facts of the situation. IIRC, the rationale at the time was that there was skepticism over whether the whole trilogy would deliver (possibly since Peter Jackson and his studio weren't as well known at the time). Since the whole trilogy turned out to be stunning, Return of the King won every category it was nominated in. It's obviously pretty stupid logic, but that was what I kept hearing at the time.

I've been genuinely perplexed by the people saying it "isn't" "woke".
