For anyone still shopping, the 11.6" joying has buttons at the bottom of the screen. Just touch the bottom and a button bar pops up (and stays until hidden by swiping down). Bass controls are front and rear (that's why there are two sets of adjustments) - I have 6x9 in front doors that are wide open and boosted, and 5.25 in rear that are filtered at 60hz, for example. That little button for common apps can be turned off.

I’d like to see a comparison of a $500 unit vs a $500 unit. Someone dropping almost 1.5k isn’t the same person looking to spend around 500 just to upgrade. Also, this video didn’t get in depth too much. How’s the call quality on each? Customization. Crashes etc.

You can't compare a joying under $500 unit with another under $500 unit from a "known brand", because there isn't one. Or else Joying would win with a huge gap because under $500 "real brand" units don't have a display and so one.

Have that exact Joying unit connected to a JL Audio VX-1000/5i amplifier via SPDIF Optical cable. Speakers are Kicker snowman pods on my A-Pillars at the windshield facing driver\passenger. Front doors are Sony XS690-ES coaxials, rear doors are Sony XS650-ES coaxials. Sub box is sealed box with two Kicker 12" L7 Solo-baric's Using the JL Audio Tun App and just a quick basic setup (I have not played with the JL DSP settings at all yet, I have made no crossover or EQ changes yet) I only turned on the Optical inputs on the amplifier and let it rip. I wanted to get the feel for the system out of the box for a couple weeks before I start to tweak the VXi's DSP. Just the out of the box sound of the combo mentioned above already sounds impressive BEFORE tuning... All I can say is so far I am very impressed with the Joying unit. I have a Seicane Android deck in my last vehicle and the Seicane was riddled with low volume hiss and barely audible yet fully audible noises computer\data noises and hiss with the volume set at 0 or 1 This Joying unit has no such issues and when connected to the VX-1000/5i via optical when the volume on the deck is set at 0 or 1 there is dead silence, no noises hisses data stream noises etc it is literally like the deck and amp are both switched OFF. I'm not sure you mentioned that the Android deck is the ultimate in flexibility when it comes to apps etc... The Joying has both apple and android car-play solutions, but you really dont need them since the deck is an actual Android deck. Unfortunately one of the con's to the JVC type decks is that they are fully customized my the MFG and not open ended to do the things one's nerdy heart may desire where with the android OS it's cake to do whatever you want... install whatever you want.... I have already watched decrypted BlueRay movie .m2ts data streams as well as .MKV BlueRay video streams off a USB hard drive using VLC Media player installed on the deck to watch 1080P BluRay movies on the deck ;) There is just so much more you can do with an Android deck if you are a nerdy bastard like myself.

I own a joying unit and can attest its surprising performance. Although I do not have a $1.5k jvc unit to do a side by side comparison I can say that the joying at its price point is a good quality upgrade for older factory head units. I currently have it installed in my 2004 honda crv with a helix dsp pro mk2 with a helix m4 and ac 1.300 for the sub. I have 6.5” focal flax performance components upfront and coaxials in the rear. Im running a 11” focal sub in the back and sound is excellent though the helix mk2 using an optical cable. The optical port was one of the main features I was looking for. For me, this unit had everything I was looking for for far less than most all name brands and has delivered. I control audio volume through my helix director but did use a cheap bluetooth stick on remote without issue for the first 3 months.

If your main priority is sound quality and you absolutely need RCA's to your amplifier, you could alwasy add a mini-DSP. While the setup is a little more complex (particularly if you want to do proper tested EQ); it would allow you to send a digital signal from the Joying's Fibre-optic, to the Mini-DSP's DAC. Once configured right it would blow both head units away and your still in for less than 50% of the JVC's asking price.

This review did point some of the few issues that the android radios tend to have with the screen glare (they also tend to be worse with retaining fingerprints). Other than that, there seems to be absolutely no real reason to purchase a legacy brand head unit. I was worried about sound quality at the price point, but digital outs completely squash that concern. Since this video they have even gotten better like being instant on and having higher build quality. I was looking at car stereos in the $300-400 range and I couldn’t believe how uncompetitive the legacies are on all metrics. Seriously, the legacy brands might be better off just licensing and rebranding the android units as their own at this point. I’m vain enough to pay $50-100 extra for better anti-glare coating and the Kenwood/Sony/etc name but 2x the price for worse performance, features, and design is a no go.

Optical out from this exact Joying deck to my JL Audio VX-1000/5i DSP amplifier both units straight out of the box the only settings changed on the amplifier were to turn on the optical inputs as they are switched off within the amplifier by default. All I did was turn them on... It has been so far the most impressive straight out of the box sound I have ever heard without a single tweak yet. I have been driving with it for three weeks now to get a better fell for any tweaks I may want to make. Right out the box with default EQ and crossover settings on the amp this Joying unit sound better than my old car's system after days of tweaking... If you pair this specific Joying unit with a decent DSP\amplifier with digital input you will not be unhappy.... This was my biggest worry prior to purchase... The android units to me either target something looking for more for less aka cheaper unit with a lot of flexibility or to the more diy car audio type. The digital out alone is something we don't see because none of the domestic brands can put it in 1k+ units like Sony has in the GS9 and have a huge markup. Enormous numbers of android units have them and are fairly cheap. The software platform with android is just going to always be light years ahead of any closed system that the domestic brands run. I believe in less than 5 years we will see chinese units likely surpass the major brands and force them to either actually provide much more serious value or get beat. You can literally do everything on an android with no need for a phone at all including putting a cellular chip on it.

I didn't even try to sell it, threw that POS right in the garbage. I have had all high end name brands all my life (53yrs) in audio, Alpine, Kenwood, JVC, PIONEER,, Clarion, bought my first Joying back in 2013 and I can Honestly say I will never, ever, buy another Name brand unit again. This video was super Bias and skimes or skipped over everything that makes then so great. His biggest complaint was no physical buttons, but didn't even know that there is a pop up menu at the bottom of the screen with Volume, forward, reverse, home, etc, just like a hidden physical button. Smh
Skipped over some of the important details of the EQ, like Q settings that make that thing sound Unbelievable! And glides over the 2v 6v rca comparison, but didn't actually test the RCAs for clipping... The Joying has zero clipping at full volume, the JVC starts clipping at 88% volume.
The screen! Lmao, the JVC dims their screen so it looks more deep, but it's literally darker, so you miss most of what you should see, and the resolution isn't even comparable. There is adjustment on the Joying to your taste. The one he compair I can see the Contrast, Hugh, brightness is set high for what ever environment. The new units have a coating for glair because of the American complains, where as everyone else just uses a screen protector that does this for you anyway.

Theres 2 adjustments for front stage and rear stage on the joying headunit. When it comes to picture quality like I see again there's pixelation coming from the jvc when there's none coming from the joying, when it comes to stock apps and apps you can download you can use other apps to play movies that can give you better video quality.
When it comes to the joying brand like several other Android head unit brands they have many screen sizes and some do come with volume buttons and like the one I have actually comes with on screen volume buttons, your getting more bang for your buck when it comes down to it. Those who call Android radios trash either never had one or bought one for 200 and below.

We got to get out of the audio stone age. Digital all the way. Joying all the way. Connect it to an Audio Control Dm-608 DSP or a JL audio VX1000/5i which is an amp with an Optical input. Optical out and more flexibility via Android at half to a third of the price of the big names in car audio... that's all it took for me to take a chance with Joying and three days ago I ordered the newest 15 inch Joying rotatable display unit so I can move my first one (featured in this video) to my older vehicle and put the new 15 inch on my newer vehicle. I will not even consider a Big name Car Audio head unit purchase again until they have something to compete head to head that is an Android deck.

Can I ask a technical question . assuming I can … can we route the optical out from the hard unit to a DAC and from DAC to DSP -AMP -Speakers… Is it technically possible and an efficient way to get best out of an audio source ? … please respond..

I heard the optical and spdif exits are very popular in combination with the joying because the normal line and amplified speaker outputs don't have good sound quality. You can't fuck up sound quality when the signal is digital,so that's a great choice together with a spdif or optical capable amp, DSP or combined with a converter box.

My Unit, like the one he compaired tested at just over 2v and zero clipping from the RCAs. My newest Snapdragon unit tests at 6v and zero clipping at full volume. My JVC, Pioneer, and Kenwood, which aren't really new units, but considered top of the line at the time, all test at 2v, but every one of them clip at about 85 to 90 percent volume. So is it really that bad? My unit that I have in my truck is so clean sounding, and with the DSP, tuning is awesome, but this new Snapdragon unit, I am totally Blown the Fuck away. The EQ has 3 levels to from easy to complicated. Meaning in the I can adjust the EQ per each channel individually, or by front, rear, center and sub. BTW it has a center channel, and 5.1 dts surround. The EQ is now parametric and graphic EQ like his complaint it didn't have before. The DSP is very in depth.

I’ve been looking at stereo vids for a couple of days now. Really like the look of the Android head units.
One thing I never see (and can’t find info on) is AM/FM reception (dBf). I mostly listen to Sirius/Pandora/TuneIn but there are times when I actually enjoy terrestrial radio.
The aftermarket units I’ve tried (Pioneer, Jensen, and JVC) have all SUCKED in comparison to the stock radio. It’s actually annoying enough that I have pulled the aftermarket radios and put in the original just to get better reception. 😢

My 6+ year old Joying developed a touch screen issue, so I'm looking at replacements. The only reason I'm even looking at other units is that none of the Android head units have HD Radio support. But other than HD Radio, Joying seems to beat most everything else available looking at price and features. And, there are many Joying models with different screen sizes and choice of physical buttons or not. Many more reasonably priced non-Android radios don't have HD Radio either.

    Optical Bonding Technology
.... I think it is what is actually called fully laminated screen or one glass solution, still very very reflective display. So far the best commercially available technology is still matte diffusive layer as the vertical or horizontal polarizer. Although apple is using actual anti glare layers on some of their touch devices what is commercially available (thought almost never used) for not touch displays is in different league.

Can’t take anyone seriously that thinks that jvc unit is close to being worth 1300$. Also the joying can download an app that can handle camera control for a front camera to automatically come on. It can also use a different equalizer then the default. Some buttons and an anti glare screen isn’t worth an extra 700$ homie. Besides with the joying and others there are hundreds of models where you can pick what you want like a nice screen, fast cpu, more ram and memory. There is a unit for every feature set you could think of for the most part. If you want buttons or no buttons, etc. there are dozens of brands that will have generally what you’re looking for, with 500$ being the absolute maximum price. Jvc and pioneer need to step it up, and anyone that would recommend or use their products just isn’t informed.

  • @fordsixhoe1184
    @fordsixhoe1184 Год назад

So, now you need to do an update, as Joying has answered with the new 2023 Snapdragon units, which have 6v clip free rca outputs, (somthing that you didn't test on either, the Jvc will clip at about 88% full volume and the Joying does not at all, and the new 6v version doesn't clip at full volume either), new screen is optically bonded for glair, has gestures for screens with no physical buttons( some prefer a clean look, but and we have steering wheel controls, plus you skimmed over the volume controls and left out that there is a pop up bar at the bottom of the screen, like physical buttons that have volume, forward reverse, and other navigation buttoms, but btw there are other options for units with hard buttons) and now they have a knob version of the large screened unit.
The Sound settings match everything that of the "pros" and side of the JVC, like parametric EQ and adjustable slope, and one big one you didn't mention in the Joying EQ is adjustable Q range. The Sound Settings /DSP in the new unit is very in depth.
As far as your comparison of the Video screen quality was pretty biased as the only real difference I could see was that the Joying screen brightness was set high and pretty subjective to how the video settings (brightness, contrast, etc) were set. Comparing them myself, I found that the screen quality is far superior in the Joying.
There are many other Pros to the Joying that you didn't cover, one being everything is native, not through your phone, meaning, you can use any app you want, directly on the Head Unit, which you are stuck with what is preinstalled on the JVC, as it is NOT an android, it is Linux based only. I which brings me to the boot time at the beginning, since the Jvc is Linux, and has nothing to boot really, the first boot of the Joying will be slow, but after the first, it is faster, almost instant. It is, like a phone, or computer, takes a little time to boot.
The new one has 360° view with, I don't know how many cameras. My unit like the one you compaired has 2 cameras, also you didn't mention, it does have HDMI output inside the unit.
As far as optical goes, it's much more popular than you think, it is just that the USA is slow on tech compaired to other countries.
And I think that you over looked the very obvious point in pros and cons and the over all, you are comparing a Unit that is 3x times the cost of the Joying, and now, with the new one that out performs it at the same price as the old one, I don't know how you can compair the two with the same huge price difference. Why not compair to something of the same price line? Because nothing even comes close to the Joying, except a popular brand that is literally 3x as much. That is a HUGE pro that was overlooked. As far as tech, I don't know what you are talking about. I have had Joyings since 2013 and never had an issue with tech. I feel that was misrepresentation and maybe parroting of people that experienced tech of other Chinese companies perhaps. Joying is not, or I mean, can not be compaired to no name other Chinese units. They are vastly different.
Bottom line, I have had JVC, Kenwood, Pioneer, Alpine, Clarion Head Units all through my life and loved them, but once I went with my first JOYING, and especially the last 2 units I have purchased (unit just like the one you compair except 13.3" rotating, and my newest 2023 Snapdragon) all of those over priced Name Brand units don't come close to what you gain from these Joying. My new HU is the best sounding Unit to date and sounds better and cleaner that any unit I have ever had, and I can litterally turn it up ALL THE WAY with no distortion, and that's through the RCAs, not even talking about SPDIF or Optical.
GPS, OBDII, Wifi, Google, and GooglePlayStore, endless apps, Viper4Android, Steering Wheel Controls, full integration of the head unit and all controls OEM of the car, but big beautiful Sony screens, Fast as Fuck processing, and hands free calling, messaging, etc. You can't compair the JVC in such a bias way to this new JOYING, I guarantee to out performs, and it's value is unmatched even with the older unit.

This is a great review…. I just purchased a joying unit for my daughters 2013 VW CC and will be Installing it this weekend…. This unit does have physical buttons and is designed as an in dash replacement. Cost and highly integrated / factory looking installation were the decision makers for me.
She really wanted CarPlay, but I likely would not have spent the money for a name brand unit just for that upgrade for her older car. But the Joying? The price was worth the experiment.

Is it going through a "secure" google server or is it going through some random server and what are they doing with your info? For those that dont know the name, a youtuber by the name of Linus Tech Tips asked a similar question about those cheap android tv boxes and the answer he got was honestly, pretty scary. Hidden code in these android tvs, some even had malware that could completely take over your home wifi and any devices connected to it.The same can be applied here. @Bret China has been "preparing to attack Taiwan" for over 70 years, and after Russia failed so miserably over the past 12 months to advance in Ukraine, they are now left considering the Russians eventually being stalemated or just straight up getting kicked out and collapsing. And the only reason the Soviets didn't collapse entirely in Operarion Barbarossa is cause not only did the Lend Lease program send them millions of tanks, guns, and vehicles while they had shut down all their factories while moving over the Urals, but the Americans also had shipped them millions of pounds of food just so maybe a few million less of them would starve to death. So you can thank the Americans that the USSR lived on long enough to spread communism around the world. Adding to the irony is that such a large percentage of Russia's truck supply has been destroyed in Ukraine that they even had to dig up American trucks the US sent them back in 1943 from initial Soviet Lend Lease lol. After Ukraine took back Kherson and Kharkhiv and their surrounding areas up to the local river banks, the most likely scenario is either Russia peacing out with their current held land (which they can't even take Bahkmut after 6 months of fighting on the outskirts of the city), or after another Ukrainian counteroffensive they get their asses sent packing towards the border once again. Russia is a fucking joke, and China isn't much higher above them.

As someone who sells literally every "name brand" line of head units, I can say without a doubt that the 2023 versions from Joying absolutely demolish their name brand competition. I currently have 4 Joying Auto units in my vehicles (3 Subaru, 1 BMW) and you couldn't get me to go back to Alpine/Pioneer/Sony/Kenwood/JVC, especially if you have a unit that is plug & play compatible with your car. When's the last time you saw JVC include a dash kit, wiring harness, steering wheel controls, OEM rear view camera input, 128GB onboard ROM for dash/rear cam DVR, Optical Outputs, HDMI outputs, 4G Sim Card capability, a fully customizable launcher, 48 Band EQ (that can be customized to the listening habits of up to 3 users), Delay (in milliseconds), individual speaker gain control, a Highpass and Lowpass filters for: Front, Rear, & Center (so you can theoretically set it up as a bandpass filter if so desired), along with Frequency adjustments and slope (6/12/18/24 db per octave) , along with the obvious LPF for a subwoofer. All for under $500 shipped?
The answer is you can't. You haven't. You won't.

I use the Sirius XM app streamed via TMobile sim chip installed in the Joying. At first I was used to the actual XM tuner and was concerned The app and streaming would not equal the actual XM tuner, but I have been using the app now on my Joying for 2 years and have never looked back. You really dont need the tuner, and Sirius XM is now offering more programming over the app than broadcast down from the satellite.

I'll take the JVC, I've had one of those android n thought I was saving money, turned out to be more of a headache. I waisted more time n money. I bought a Kenwood with rr2 and install was done and everything worked instantly

      Steering wheel controls.
Also a benefit of the android deck, change gestures to change function. Volume up, sweep fingers up, volume down, sweep fingers down. If you need to twist a button that bad, get a girlfriend and twist nipples.

Is there a setting to keep Joying Unit display OFF by default when car is started. I only intend on using it as a backup camera and occasionally for Navigation. Thus I don't need infotainment system to turn ON by default when Car is started. I want to explicitly turn it ON.

LOve your reviews, but this one seemed very biased towards the JVC which was triple the cost of the Joying. It shouldn't be that much more expensive if they compare that close

I bought a Idoing head unit and all worked until I decided to use an external amplifier to power the speakers. Once I did I realized why name brand head units are the way to go. I don't think I can ever trust a chinese head unit again.

    • @jeepjoe1996
      @jeepjoe1996 2 года назад

Yes, Joying has a USB cd/DVD player that works FANTASTIC!! It even allows you to RIP the music off the disks and have it saved digitally on the radio it's self so you no longer even need to have the actual cd's in your vehicle anymore once you Rip them. They support ripping them in several different media types (Mp3, WMA, FLAC etc etc) and can choose the quality you want them ripped as. For me, I do every cd as FLAC 24-BIT Loss-less for truely no loss of quality at all over the actual cd... It even downloads the album art, names of each song etc etc automatically too and saves it, so when you play the songs on the radios music player app it displays everything too properly, even the album art...

Why nobody talks about how useless the android functions are on these devices? I have the KW-Z1000W JVC, but I am not happy that the applications you can use are extremely limited. Many of them are half way working, I thought it will work like my phone since it is android, but it is far not that good yet. I also do not see updates on the firmware, the last one was in 2021, and frankly the user interface is pretty outdated. For such an expensive unit I would have expected better support and usability. The only thing is sound handling and Google map that works properly, but that needs continuous internet connection. Apps like "Mapsme" does not exist on this one.

Not sure I know of anyone having a China andoid head unit older that 3 years that still works
There is a Russian programmer on fb group that does customizing of the China head units
China head units w Russian customization may be open door to hacking your connected accounts as it is a computer
Agreed on lack of support for China head units. You would think one of them should hire a English understanding person to write a manual for android head unit settings
