I purchased a Joying head unit for VW because of your video. The installing mechanic had a wiring problem with the rear camera - so we contacted support, support send some instructions then I replied it would be nice if their instruction is clearer at the first place so I don't have to go back to the shop again(covid and long wait). Then support started lecturing me here I quote "2) For the rear camera connecting, most customers feebdack that it can be workable. but you had never met such installation and not much good at it, it is also normal. we can be well-undersatnding." Well the unit is being installed by a professional, and there are many other people having the same issue. I can not recommend their customer service nor the product - for the price it is ok, building quality is not "premium" to be very conservative.
I carefully reviewed your reporting on multiple head units, I was impressed with your shared observations about Joying Head Units, and your experiences dealing with Joying and what you reported to be their timely responses to any issues you encountered with their products. You expressed the view that their customer service was excellent given your experience, dealing with Joying’s customer service. I decided based on your reporting, to purchase Joying’s top end premium Head Unit, the (13 plus inch) rotating device, was very excited about its delivery, until my first unboxing experience, to my surprise and disappointment, first of all they sent me a used head unit, with a scratched up screen, upon returning the defective device, I discovered the exact opposite of everything you reported in your supposedly, wonderful experience. It took Joying months to respond and to finally refund my account; and only after I threatened to get on a jet plane and fly to China did they finally respond and refunded my account. However I kept faith with Joying and your RUclips testimonials, and reordered the same exact device for my GMC SUV, which I subsequently received off Amazon, note my original purchase was via eBay, unfortunately upon unboxing my second purchase, again I discovered significant flaws in the product, specifically the pre-drilled holes on the head unit frame, for installation were incorrectly machined and out of alignment, causing a problem trying to properly fit the head unit to my SUV Head unit slot, secondly and even more serious, I discovered that the main, double ribbon electrical/ electronic wires were badly bent and evidently broken, causing a short in the system, resulting in very glitchy and bad screen quality 😢😂, poor performance and connectivity. I was able mitigate those problems with some DIY interventions, however when my very expensive, top end, Joying Head Unit chose to work, it was extremely laggy on touchscreen performance and even all installation requirements were properly met, the device’s performance was totally abysmal, totally disappointing. Will never buy another JOYING PRODUCT and DEFINITELY DO NOT RECOMMEND. TO MY FELLOW CHINESE BUSINESSES, DO BETTER, RESPECT AND BE TRANSPARENT AND HONEST WITH ALL YOUR CUSTOMERS, NOT ONLY YOUR UK CUSTOMERS. Thank you for the miserable ride.
The future level of headunits with near instant boot and app load. Perks of what was premium technology now being low end and not snapped up by the big brands, it can find its way into lower end, more niche tech.
Well, the big brands have to pay licensing fees for the digital outputs which is big money and why you don't see them doing that. Companies like Joying just do what they want. Good luck suing them. Lol
Just be aware that on long journeys, the screen gets very hot and starts flickering. You need to then very fiddly touch the right screen options to blank the screen until it cools. Otherwise agree, fun unit, tried and tested.

Thanks man, Nice and flawless video. I am also interested in SPDIF , not the optical out but the coax out , Also what makes this unit also very attractive for me is the ability to have one of its USB ports as USB otg ( Host) which some older T8 units used to have. In case usb audio player pro app can be installed to this unit ( cheap app) It can control the USB out of the unit for dedicated audio out in terms of bit perfect out ( if the unit has decend USB bus ) . FYI: very little but even The optical out of sony GS9 is affected from jitter , This unit might also . Wonder the ability of USB host work or not ( Unless the joying explains about the output capabilities about the Jitter amount introduced to the optical / Coax / USB outs. )
It was a good unit until the screen started to blackout and plus no sound I reached out to Joying they was kind enough to send me a new face but I had to pay $40 for shipping. It came back quickly but after 6 months it’s doing the same thing all over again so I gave up on it now I’m going to try Atoto’s 10” screen.

so i came here looking to see if anyone had the same complaint as me for this unit, that the font size was just waaaay too small on all the android menus and google maps. But maybe its just my bad eyes or something. Anyway, they have disabled the font size option for reasons i dont understand, earlier joying units had this option. The manual says the option is there but it is not. I asked support how to do it and they said it was impossible. But there is a way. If you go into developer settings, there is a min width setting that is in pixels. Its a sort of DPI value of some sort. The default is 1200, and setting it lower makes the menus and google map fonts larger. I use 800, and i might change it to 600. But this breaks the stock launcher, which is why i suspect they dont allow font size changes. The stock launcher is not great anyway, AGAMA launcher is much better. So install AGAMA first, switch to it, and then change the developer setting. Other than this issue, which is now resolved for me, the unit is absolutely fantastic. Much better than the POS binize unit i had before. The screen is wonderful, and the unit is comparable in speed to like a pixel3 or something similar, which is absolutely fine for car use.
This is excellent advice, John. This is the main issue with car head units which have very high resolutions. All the apps have loads of lovely screen space to spread over, like they would on a tablet, but in a car it is counter-productive as you're taking your attention away from the road for longer trying to press the smaller buttons or read the smaller text. Well done on finding the DPI settings in the dev options, I'll probably do a video on that soon
@@SaabUnleashed i am still a bit shocked that some more reasonable method wasnt available. thanks for making these videos, I made the mistake of buying a 2gig memory unit first before doing much research. it worked with android auto pretty flawlessly, but when i started playing with running the apps natively, i realized i had a lot more control over that, and i could use the higher rez screen better. Then i realized i just needed a better unit and found your channel. my car is too old for steering wheel controls, but i am trying to get the OTG usb to recognize an external volume knob that is super fancy. But without rooting the device there is just so much you can do, and i dont want to get into hacking territory at this point, the device is close enough to perfect i can be satisfied. I also need to see if the OTG will support external input devices like gamepads etc. This thing really should be running MAME for those long waits at the drivethrough.
I'm hoping I can find a music player app that can allow for big bold text and no album art. My plan is to use the usb rca video out to a small 2.5" screen mounted in the instrument panel. I can keep the radio hidden with the factory door to maintain a stock appearance.
Thanks for this video, I've just ordered one of the joying 7" units as i prefer to have a flush install in my car, the extra large screen would just get in the way. You mentioned that wireless Android auto is available, but on their website it says there is only wireless car play but wired Android auto only. Which is correct?
Hi, I'm looking at purchasing one of the Joying units but am confused as it says cannot support the car's backup camera. Is this just a connection I'm having to purchase or another camera? I know there can be lost in translation issues sometimes. Love your videos.
Aftermarket head units require the rear view camera to have a standard video RCA plug, this is what all aftermarket reverse cameras have. To use the factory reverse cam, you need an adaptor that will add a standard video RCA to the wiring loom containing the video signal in the dashboard, or if such an adaptor doesn't exist, you'll need to find the relevant wires and solder on an RCA plug to plug into the Joying
About a year ago Joying was making a unit that had a built in volume slider on the side of the screen, so even if you didn't have steering wheel controls it was very easy to turn up and downthe volume instantly. This must have been a costly feature because I don't see it on any of their new units. It is easily the number one feature of the unit that I have!
hey have you a link to that specific dashboard unit ? i have a car without steering wheel controle buttons so it would be a payn without volume buttons :-(
@@ahighervibe4086 damn :-( that the new versions have no volume Buttons is a absolute No Go for any older car that has no Steering wheel Radio controls :-(
Joying are great minor annoyances and learning process like switching apps without radio app turning off. I got 8 inch I would recommend a universal Bluetooth controller and stick it near your radio trying to mute or simple volume changes is kind of an hassle
The alpine will definitely give you more audio amplification, which would be particularly useful if you have a powerful aftermarket system, but you'll be limited to AA and Carplay. Joying will give you much more, but certainly a less powerful audio output
Would love if they would also have accessorised shroouds for cars too so you can just buy the headunit and shroud for your car.. I know customisable screen height and placement.. I'm merely making the suggestion of a "default position."
Do you know if the headunits by Joying that are designed for say a VW will fit in another vehicle out of the box? I'm a bit late to the party here, hope you see this question. I was wondering, what is the output voltage on the RCAs? I've read that most of the android HUs are quite low requiring you to increase the gains on your amps and risk inducing extra noise. I'm aware that there are plenty of different line drivers available, was just hoping I wouldn't need one if I purchased one of these units.
@@williamgarrett9376 not a direct answer from this person, no....but I did some research and most of those android units only put out about 0.8v to the RCAs

Great review. I"ve been looking at these types of units for years. The only thing that is kept me from taking the plunge is that I drive a 2010 Mazdaspeed 3 and I've always heard that the Bluetooth controls on the steering wheel doesn't work because it is part of a different "hub" than those of the other steering wheel controls. Can anyone confirm whether this unit can use the bluetooth controls built into the steering wheel on a 2nd generation Mazda 3?
You don't use bluetooth for steering wheel control. You buy an interface compatible with your car and integrates in your car harness to the headunit and program the steering wheel control through settings in the headunit.
Thanks for all the great videos, I have watched most of them trying to decide on which Android head unit to go for, and I have two main concerns on buying an Android unit, one is the boot up time, as I get in and out of my van a lot, that doesn't seem to be an issue with this Joying and you seemed really impressed by its start up straight from the box. My second and main concern is battery drain, I have lots of Android phones and tablets around the house so I am well used to Android itself, but how do you overcome this common issue?, if an Android unit is just asleep its going to consume power, how do you overcome this issue, is it a case of turning the unit off completely when you leave the car for a period of time, or say every night, this main concern of mine is all that's holding me back from all the cool benefits of an Android head unit, cheers.
The current units can't really be turned off when the engine is running. You have 2 options. Set it to fully turn off when ignition is turned off. This causes it to fully boot up over 30 seconds. Second is to set it to sleep mode or hibernation. When you turn off the ignition is goes to sleep over about 30 seconds. It then only draws 5 mA of current. For reference, most vehicles draw 5-20 mA when off so this is perfectly fine. Any higher than 30 mA might drain the battery after a month or more of sitting. Getting back to you not being able to turn it off. With ignition on you can turn off the screen, but it is still running in the back ground. You have to remove the ignition source to actually turn it off. I plan to add a toggle switch to my ignition wire so I can make it not turn on every time I crank up the vehicle. Hope that helps.
I am inclined to get a joying unit for my Jeep WJ as well but am unsure about its funtionality. Did you have the factory infinity sound system in yours and did it work with that? What about the steering wheel buttons? Since the joying unit doesn´t have buttons I´m quite keen on keeping them functioning.
I had the an Overland with the top end sound system and it sounded awesome with the Joying, much better than the stock radio. Steering wheel buttons worked too
Hi Stuart, it said in the video that it is available in a single din unit .Do you have a part number and what do you click on to order one regarding 4 or 6 gig .

@@martingladwell7970 You would order from China to avoid fees. ODB2 is an adaptor that you can plug into your camper's diagnostic port and it will display engine data on the screen if you have the relevant app. DVR is a dash cam function, TPMS is a tire pressure monitoring system. Give me a few minutes and I'll chack and see if the Joying will allow the backup camera to be on whilst driving
Ok so yes it will, but you'll have to set it up differently. You will attach the reverse camera to the video in port on the Joying and supply the camera with a 12v connection from your ignition live (so it's on whenever the car is on). Then you can tap the app and you will see behind your camper. This will mean that the Joying won't automatically switch the cam on when reversing, but you can just make sure you have the cam up when you need to reverse. I also tested whether you can listen to your music whilst in this mode, and you can, so that's really cool.

Thanks Martin p.s I will be in contact at a later date for some help of how to wire up the rear view camera while driving .
Have a look at these for controlling volume (and more) remotely. www.joyingauto.eu/car-accessories/z-link-box.html . For the camera, you just need to power it from the red wire on your head unit. You'll find the video wire for the camera also has a thin red wire, this is so that you can supply the camera power from the head unit.
Our car (2012 Citroen C5 Exclusive) comes with a subwoofer and amplifier installed in the boot. The mechanic tells me that the car's amplifier would stop sound from the Joying unit getting to the speakers. Does this sound right? Joying website says "No matter your external amplifier has optical input or coaxial input". Haven't purchased yet, but someone suggested our amp may require ECU input to 'wake' it? Has also been suggested to buy another external amp, but not sure why?
Coaxial does natively. The optical might, assuming its 2 channel PCM, but your downstream device, dsp, needs to be able to read that volume signal. So optical can be hit or miss, it depends on the equipment.
Can you adjust the slots on the din unit as well as on the back of the screen on the 10” ? Have a facelift Saab 9-3 cabrio, and have not ordered it because it might render my cup holder and hood control useless Great review.
The double din one would render the cup holder useless, there's not enough adjustment to mount it high enough to clear the cupholder. Hypothetically, the single din one would be the way to go for the 9-3 facelift. You'd have to screw it into a double-din cage, but you'd be able to position the screen high enough to clear the cup holder. But then you'll have other problems. The first is that you'll be covering the vents, the second is that you'll probably still not be able to open the cup holder, because it needs to rotate with barely any clearance from the dash. This means it will catch this unit as it opens, and that will stop full deployment. You're limited to 7 inches for this car if you want to retain the cupholder, maybe 8 inches with a custom bezel pushing the screen inside the available space between the vents and cupholder
@@SaabUnleashed , thanks for that, I had my doubts right enough, the 9” might just do it but it hasn’t got the screen res of the larger one. You can buy a single din insert for the double din space, this gives you a tray below it. Will try more research 🧐. 👍

Yes, you can fit any single din head unit if you're brave enough to do the rest of the wiring. Theres a video on my channel of me installing a Joying in place of an ICM1. This is a 10 inch so it'll cover the cup holder and some of the vents due to it's size
They don't carry that adapter, they do have DAB+, though. The only way you might get that to work is if it goes through your phone. Sirius XM do have a phone app, so it streams through your cell connection instead of the satellites.
I don't know if it would be controllable from the headunit or the phone. Assuming you got caraway or android auto working you might be able to control it from the headunit. I have yet to try this.
Great video, I agree about how awesome a unit it is. I had an issue with mine blowing out fuses so had to wait for them to exchange out the brain. But since I do really enjoy the unit. Was wondering if anyone would happen to have an old 10.1" screen they aren't using? I have this 13.3 and an 8 in my 84 monte ss but the 8's screen cracked. Luckily I had a 10.1 I am putting into my current project and was able to test the screen. Joying told me it wouldn't work but when I plugged it in and booted and works just fine. So now I am on the hunt for a 10.1" screen with no luck so far
You blow fuses and crack screen....wtf?. Maybe you should let someone who know how to handle headunit help you. You sound like a person who should stay away from electronic. And i don't believe you can put another screen into a different headunit and. It souinds crazy. You are doing weird things.

I’ve seen some of your reviews on premium units for a Jeep Wrangler JK especially the Joying but that unit is out of stock. You also mentioned Xtrons, Atoto and Dasaito were good companies. Is the Seicane unit any good or would you stay away from it? Thanks
I haven't personally used them, but it's all about the specification. If it's for a Jeep, have a look at Teyes. That's what I installed in my Jeep and it's amazing
Given your two reviews, this one and the Teyes, which would you choose? My son is mad on the Teyes one but it could be because he hasn't seen this one. I hesitation with the Teyes so far is that it has a built in amplifier. I'll have to rewatch this vid as I watched part of it last night and I can't remember if you mentioned a built in amp. I grew up with putting Pioneers and Trio units into RS2000's and did it all myself. Cars and car audio have evolved to a point where yes I can still do it but if I pay someone and they bugger it up, they have to fix it. I have a Honda CR-Z. I know Teyes does a setup specifically for that car but I'm in discussions with them about the fascia plate as their website shows the hazard warning light buttno in the wrong location. I'll look into the Joying unit and see what I can find in the meantime. The HU in the car as is is fine for me. No bells and whistles but it's 340 watts and plays cd's and sound fantastic (Clarion HU, Pioneer amp and Foster speakers and sub). I really don't want to put in one of these units and take a giant leap backwards.
You could use the rca outputs which are 2v. Where this might improve sound quality is with the 16 band eq and 4 channel time alignment. Joying don't normally play CD's since it has many other options like mp3 and Bluetooth streaming from your phone or from a USB drive. Joying does offer a CD drive unit, but its $90 usd and tray loading like a computer, so not that great. (These units do have built in amps, but they are maybe 15 watts x 4 like a factory headunit. Nothing special.)
No screws to install in a non vehicle specific model (universal)?? I just bought one and thought it was something that they should have provided being it is a universal unit being put in a double din opening.
Why would I choose the double din version over the single din version? Can't I always fit a single din in a double din hole, but not vice versa? Also, can you tell me why to choose this unit over the 11.6" screen which appears to be only single din? The only thing I notice different in the description between the two is the SPDIF, which i still don't know what that even is. Did miss it in your video? Thanks in advance for your help. I had never heard of these until I stumbled onto your reviews.
Generally you would go for whatever din your car is. As it stands at the moment, the single din offers more vertical manoeuvrability for the screen, but would cause minor complications fitting a single din into a double din hole because you'd have to screw it in place. The size of the screen is purely personal preference, but in this car, anything larger will cause issues with the switches next to the head unit. The 10.1 runs the roof switch as it is. SPDIF is a digital audio interface and has absolutely no relevance unless you also connect your cars speakers to a SPDIF amplifier
Thanks for what you’re doing with these quality reviews of Android head units- it’s hard to find independent reviews of them, so much appreciated! This thing looks like a game-changer. Unfortunately for me, I am really wanting one that looks OEM in my car (Audi A3 8P), and Joying doesn’t have any that fit. Well I have had an Xtrons installed in my Saab 9-3 for a number of years. There's actually a review video of this on my channel. I haven't tested the latest model yet though, I will hopefully be doing that in the next few weeks. Generally though, Xtrons is a company that generally provides good value for money

Have you tried the DAB dongle with the Joying radios? Or the optional DVR camera as a dashcam? Any idea how far away the current 7 inch version is in terms of performance, or if that will get this hardware in due course? Great helpful review, thanks.
DAB dongles will work 100% regardless of brand because they are third party devices designed to work on Android and rely on an app from the app store to function. I've never used a DVR with Android so I will have to try that soon. The 7 inch variations are almost identical spec wise. Same CPU, RAM, DSP audio chip with digital audio outputs ect. The only difference is that the screen resolution is lower at 1024x600 and as a result, you don't get the same dashboard as shown in this video. It's still an awesome unit though and probably the best 7 inch unit you can get

wow, this unit seems to have it all! looking forward to an in-car review.
5:00 its basicly 1080p with a different ratio of 16:10 instead of 16:9, but still a very nice resolution for that size

Wonder the ability of USB host work or not ( Unless the joying explains about the output capabilities about the Jitter amount introduced to the optical / Coax / USB outs. )
Did you have the opportunity to test the spidf or optical output? I have the same curiosity. yes it offers good audio quality?
It was a good unit until the screen started to blackout and plus no sound I reached out to Joying they was kind enough to send me a new face but I had to pay $40 for shipping. It came back quickly but after 6 months it’s doing the same thing all over again so I gave up on it now I’m going to try Atoto’s 10” screen.
I was blown away by the Teyes CC3 how does this compare in your opinion?

Yes email them or go on their site, they have quite a bit of sizes and different models.
Swipe up from the bottom for permanent volume buttons and a few other controls
so i came here looking to see if anyone had the same complaint as me for this unit, that the font size was just waaaay too small on all the android menus and google maps.
EXCELLENT REVIEW ! SIR !!

They do make units with volume knobs or dedicated capacitive buttons. You just need to choose what you want and what size.
Joying are great minor annoyances and learning process like switching apps without radio app turning off. I got 8 inch I would recommend a universal Bluetooth controller and stick it near your radio trying to mute or simple volume changes is kind of an hassle
Why I will only buy a unit with a volume knob built in

K - thanks - I'm in the market for a new headunit. Toying with Alpine 407 or 650 but I've always liked the way Joying presents.
The alpine will definitely give you more audio amplification, which would be particularly useful if you have a powerful aftermarket system, but you'll be limited to AA and Carplay. Joying will give you much more, but certainly a less powerful audio output
Hi I've just ordered an atoto A6 unit after watching your post could you tell me if I definitely need to order a reverse camera or not? Thanks.
So how exactly do I hook up the optical/coaxial to an amplifier?
Optical inputs for automotive amplifiers are very rare unfortunately.

Love your content on this!
Did you ever get an answer, on the rca voltage output?
@@williamgarrett9376 not a direct answer from this person, no....but I did some research and most of those android units only put out about 0.8v to the RCAs
@@Mardy72 In reviews of Joying they said the main channels are 2v, but the sub output is only 0.5v. I don't know if the reviewer turned the sub output all the way up or not. I will have to measure this when I receive my unit.

Idoing or joying? Want to get one for my car and I don't know which to get, could you make a video on the difference? And has the speed slowed down for the joying?
Does it remember where you left off and support app bubbles so you can open nav and have a small floating window of youtube or vice versa? (both features like pumpkin models)
Yes, music picks up where you left and youtube can be in a tiny bubble that can be moved around. I have not messed with nav related stuff, yet.
Hi thanks for the great and very informative video. Were u able to do split screen?
What do you think of the sygav? & if you did a video on that headunit
I'm interested as well...wish we could get an answer

What are the pre amp values on the 8” models?
Question for ya: Does the USB port that's used for AA/ACP charge the phone when the phone is plugged in and using AA/ACP? Thanks!
Awesome video, gonna buy one for my Jetta MK6 Sport.
Digital audio out is great but when using the digital audio out does it have adjustable volume?
Coaxial does natively. The optical might, assuming its 2 channel PCM, but your downstream device, dsp, needs to be able to read that volume signal. So optical can be hit or miss, it depends on the equipment.
The optical output does control the volume going to my old Alpine H700 dsp.
Hi, thanks for the video, just have a question can this unit fit in a 2012 Chevrolet camaro?

Like most Chinese head unit brands, they can only be imported. But still, you won't be disappointed

Do you know of any way to incorporate a Sirius XM tuner with a Joying head unit?
They don't carry that adapter, they do have DAB+, though. The only way you might get that to work is if it goes through your phone. Sirius XM do have a phone app, so it streams through your cell connection instead of the satellites.
I don't know if it would be controllable from the headunit or the phone. Assuming you got caraway or android auto working you might be able to control it from the headunit. I have yet to try this.

Great video, I agree about how awesome a unit it is. I had an issue with mine blowing out fuses so had to wait for them to exchange out the brain. But since I do really enjoy the unit. So now I am on the hunt for a 10.1" screen with no luck so far

The real advantage with the joying is the digital coaxial output that can be sent to a dsp. Then you can get real serious sound quality.
No screws to install in a non vehicle specific model (universal)?? I just bought one and thought it was something that they should have provided being it is a universal unit being put in a double din opening.
My unit included screws.
Where can I get one for a e class w211 all I find is low spec version
I find something like this for my car but have not a CE certification. Is that a problem?
Do you have any experience with Xtrons octa core units (4gb RAM) that you are willing to comment on?
Well I have had an Xtrons installed in my Saab 9-3 for a number of years. There's actually a review video of this on my channel. I haven't tested the latest model yet though, I will hopefully be doing that in the next few weeks. Generally though, Xtrons is a company that generally provides good value for money
@@SaabUnleashed will you be installing on NG 9-5?
@@owenmindwise I'm going to play with this possibility, yes. At the moment I have an Android head unit which is designed for the Opel insignia which shows the climate controls. If I can get this unit to do the same, I'll get it installed. Otherwise it'll go in the 2009 9-5 Aero
@@SaabUnleashed getting px5 fitted today.... can always upgrade maybe thanks for videos etc 👍 great help
Can you help me out
Have you tried the DAB dongle with the Joying radios?
It's still an awesome unit though and probably the best 7 inch unit you can get
It still has a single sub output that will not work with an rca amplified subwoofer
If your amp requires 2 mono signals try using a splitter rca cable.
Sub output is 2.0v. Also has an adjustable low pass filter 12dB/oct plus a subsonic filter. Should work with all amps.
