  • In the age of digital technology and mediated experience, accessing the tools to fully interact with nature to procure our own food, shelter and clothing are nothing short of profound, visible on the face of someone who has just learned to start a fire for the first time. TV show host and wilderness survival skills teacher Creek Stewart has spent 20 years teaching how to be self-reliant in nature, supporting people around the world as they learn and re-learn the primitive skills and simplest technologies of our ancestors. What is it is about connecting with the outdoors that is so transformational?
Creek is a survival expert, television host, and author. He owns Willow Haven Outdoor Survival Training School, located in central Indiana, and hosts Fat Guys in the Woods, an original series on The Weather Channel. The station has picked up the show for its second season in 2015. Creek also wrote several books about survival, including Building the Perfect Bug Out Bag, Build the Perfect Bug Out Survival Skills, and The Unofficial Hunger Games Wilderness Survival Guide.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

Creek! Huge fan bro!! Can't figure out how you don't have you're own RUclips channel. If you're stuck in the woods with fat guys than hire someone. You don't get the public recognition that you deserve.

This was great, been searching for "wildlife survival guide" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Lidacoob Protection Percipience - (do a google search ) ? Ive heard some super things about it and my m8 got great success with it.

You know, the more I see the more I like. Yes, easy on the eyes for sure, but that's not what I meant. lol First, let me just say it took a lot of courage to get up there and speak to such a large group of people; much less to speak for A TED TALK!!! Bucket List check-off for sure. That was great! It was funny, entertaining, yet it delivered an important message at the same time. Besides the men being men part. Ha ha ha, just joking. But seriously, and I had said this before, but think it is worth mentioning again here, and I am talking about food, meat, and the circle of life here, I think (and hope this doesn't sound like a diatribe) but if more people thought like this and had this much respect for the circle of life, we would be much better off. I don't know how many times I have seen someone not want the meat in their basket and rather than return and walk it back to the cold storage of the meat department, they will just set it on any old shelf to ruin. It makes me both mad and sad to see this. So, I just shake my head and think to myself while walking the meat back to the meat section, how sad (and what a jerk), but really , how sad because the meat you callously waste, some animal sacrificed it's life so that you may have food to eat on this day- and this, this is the lack of respect you pay for that life. It dumbfounds me. I totally agree with your message in the talk. As for me, I consider myself so lucky and blessed beyond words that I was able to spend every summer on my grandparents farm every summer and witness the circle of life. I think so many people would be better stewards of the land and of all the creatures on it, if they had the ability to learned such valuable lessons. Perhaps they would have more respect and compassion for life- for all of the creatures on this beautiful earth. Anyway, loved the talk and loved the show. Thank you Creek for being a light and a leader. Oh and PS you're right Creek, negativity is the biggest killer. The Devil come to kill steal and destroy- and if he can steal your joy, he's won everything. So Peace Out, or um, Bug out man. :)

Creek Stewart awakened in me a real desire to get back home! I've been in Beijing China for 15 years now and all I want more than anything is to get back to life; a real life of self-reliance, accountability, integrity, and truthfulness, things that are very contrary to the style of living among 25 million atheists. haha! Sad...

Every time I watch one of his episodes, I find myself laughing hysterically. Is he serious? He tells you how to do things, but who has these articles with them to survive? Is he serious? He talks about how to survive, but you have to have every single item he talks about in order to actually survive. This show is a joke.
