Calling a cop almost always makes minor issues worse and often gets people beat or killed. Calling a cop on someone that is trying to pay at a check out was stupid and dangerous. Shame on Target. Wal Mart called the cops on 78 Karen Garner and they just about ripper her arm out of the socket. The cops were laughing about it, but at least in that case, both of them went to jail.

I can see a case to be made that they were concerned for the man's welfare, and did not feel that it would be safe for him to have the bicycle given his mental situation. In such a situation they would have called 911 to get the man some help. Unfortunately, Officer Hammer showed up and treated him like a nail.
In such a case, who would be a more appropriate agency to contact? Maybe a sympathetic fire or paramedic crew, along with trying to find out what group home he lives in?
I bet that guy had been eyeing that bike for a long time and really wanted to experience the freedom of riding it, something most of us felt as kids. It's sad that he may never be able to realize that dream.

Exactly. Taking too long is not a crime nor a police matter. Skeens, and his lowlife back ups, should have gone to store management and say “not our thing, he’s not a criminal, get someone to help him.” These clowns didn’t identify themselves as police, did little investigating Just wanted to bully the poor man to get their arrest quota. Deserved his firing and needs to be behind bars. Despicable😂

The ex cop will be found not guilty.
A judge will definitely find the cop not guilty. Most juries don't have enough integrity to hold cops accountable for criminal behavior!

I hope the victim also sues Target as well.

So the customer was in the middle of paying for this bike...... But the paying for the bike taking too long made it a criminal act in this officer's eyes?
What if this man has already put money in the machine?
Is he supposed to just forfeit the money that he has already put in the machine because this officer decided so?

This is nothing compared to Jerseyville, IL where police got qualified immunity for killing Roger Holyfield, a 17-year-old for holding a Bible and saying, "I want Jesus." on a public sidewalk.
Qualified immunity should be revoked and these murderers should stand trial.
Actually, the person behind this and many other crimes is the police chief that orders these crimes.
Everything from excessive force to children and seniors to bomb threats to search businesses for drugs, and blacked-out police cars set up at might to kill business owners to forcible evictions, drug trafficking, false arrests and false police reports.
Yes I can prove it, but no one cares.
The corrupt judge has been ousted but none of these cases have been reviewed.
