    Abq is a mental hospital in itself. I met some weirdos at walmart. The post office. Just eating at a diner is like taking a risk. Unless its in the NE i feel alittle safe but not totally. Abq is dangerous.

      Nowadays street homeless are fentanyl addicts, and mentally damaged beyond the point of repair. They will do anything in desperation to get next fentanyl 💊. They destroy everything around themselves. Many will die from fentanyl overdose, or drugs related violence. If you see anyone with blanket, towel, or tshirt over their heads, they are smoking fentanyl and second hand fentanyl smoke can easily kill you.

      I'm 72, take the bus alot. The free fare invites the homeless trash to sit all day, sleep, stink, it's an outrageous dumb idea. I notice more and more lowlife bums taking up the benches too, with their garbage. I retired here at 62. It's a beautiful, unique city. I wouldn't live anywhere else, but these quality of life issues are threatening our community from every angle.

    This is the exact reason I stopped riding the bus, not only do the drivers deal with a lot, but the passengers do too. I feel sorry for the single mother bringing her kids on the bus or the elderly couple just trying to get breakfast and they all have to witness drunk and high people screaming at the top of their lungs blaring their radios, it’s like the drivers have no control, because if they enforce the rules they get beat up, so they just let everything go, who blames them?
    I’ve seen used needles, tampons & condoms on the ground, the seats are filthy I’m sure with urine & vomit, who would want to ride the bus dealing with all that?! Very sad. The mayor needs to do something for its city drivers.

    I rode the bus in Albuquerque for a couple of years. I've seen plenty: public urination, drug use, fights, I've seen weapons brandished, muggings, sexual assault, public intoxication, you name it. The transit director is a snake. He blames supply chain issues for why drivers aren't protected. He says that security costs would be astronomical. He blames everything else for lack of safety on those bus routes except for their policies. I'm sure he doesn't have to drive a route everyday, so what incentive does he have to remedy the situation? If he thinks security would be expensive, just wait until the lawsuits.

      My immediate response to the cost of security is what about the cost of implementing a free fare system during a high inflation period and historically high fuel prices? People are afraid to ride the bus, get real. Look at the ART fiasco. What a joke that was. And the drivers and passengers aren't worth the cost of security? Remember too the people who make these decisions never ride a bus.

    • @chance2646
      @chance2646 Год назад +1

      I'm not sure charging for fares would do enough to solve it -- as far back as 2016, there have been a shocking number of attacks on city busses. I think the city hoped more eyes on busses would work as security (nothing is actually free, even a bus ride). It's hard to go even one day without hearing of a crazy event or attack on a bus in ABQ if you check the scanners and public police logs.

    This is so horrible. We need immediate security on all of these buses! The city wastes enough money on other useless projects? Why are they struggling for funds? What did that art bus project do to make things safer for bus drivers? Who is in charge of deciding the funding for city transit? How much are they getting paid? This is ridiculous. We need more funding then- we shouldn't be accepting such a piddly amount of funding for our city transit systems! Where is all the money going? This is the cheapest excuse for public transportation compared to other cities! We need security on these buses for all the obvious reasons seen in these videos. The city is DROPPING THE BALL on taking care of OUR ACTUAL NEEDS. Funding ends up in the pockets of their cronies and buddies and they're making deals, throwing chump change at the needs of the people and taxpayers who fund them.

  • @jonyashworld

    Side Note: The drivers aren't the problem, the city is. Even if the city helps make the driver safe, It wouldn't be safe for passengers. You make house on wheels, Allow dangerous people on board for the right price. They Hire security but their paid to watch not Intervene. If security does Intervene 3/5 of the time its on an innocent bystander.

    If you could crowdfund for a security guard to be on *your* bus, how much would you be willing to pay? Just a few pennies would be enough for an 10h shift, throw a gouv loan in there and the director should have some work to do. Pretty sure it would be small compared to the photo ops were funding in ukraine. You know, instead of having a laugh.
