Only a true Kiss fan would break out Mr Speed
And Parasite.
Mr. Speed....great song!!!
D E E P cuts.
I LOVE Mr. Speed
And Parasite like he did :)
You can tell John 5 is a huge KISS fan...his excitement is genuine. Mr. Speed, yeah!! Great video-
You should see his house full of kiss stuff
Mr Speed is a badass song
John 5 admires Paul Stanley's guitar. Paul Stanley admires John 5's coat.
Damage, Inc., Bahahahahahaha!!! That was hilarious!!!
becky snow, huh?
Damage, Inc. lol
That coat is something Paul would definitely wear
Right on
For everyone critiquing John 5, you realize he was handed this guitar and started playing KISS riffs by memory right? John 5 is a guitar legend.
So so underated as a guitarist!!!
Damn right
There's nothing amazing about playing some random riffs you learnt.
@@Gurra88 well if you know anything bout John 5 and his love for Kiss yeah that video was pretty amazing of course unless you are a douche bag!!!!!!!!!!
@@Gurra88
I dare you to learn mr speed, then not play it for 10 years. After that play it again and see how hard it is
It's a source of continuous amazement to me how many great guitarists totally love KISS.
Peter Devlin i 100% agree lol
Ace Frehley has his way with influence.
Tom Guadalupe absolutely correct, people don’t want to see that, but it’s true most bands in today’s time even Hall of Fame bands themselves have been influenced heavily by kiss.
Meanwhile "music critics" and "music youtubers" hate kiss, that's some bad taste.
Not me! They were great. Nothing to technical for sure but great all the same. Four New York dudes runnin' on all cylinders. Just a great and glorious garage band.
Damn..Mr. Speed and Parasite..You can tell he was in awe of Paul's axe
Mr Speed is a great riff
I love Parasite. The reason I love Hotter than Hell is because it's like a Metal party album. Some of their other makeup period albums were really bluesy but Hotter than Hell was hard rock you could dance to.
Parasite on Alive 1 rocks big time
I'm in my late 50's. I'm just discovering this John 5 guy... I think he's one of coolest people ever!
Agreed!
I just discovered him because he played on ace frehleys album origions vol.1 on I think it was him ad ace playing on the song parasite.
I must be showing my age . . . discovered super cool John 5 in "96 with
Marilyn Manson ☠
@@FrostedSeagull sorry to correct but if I remeber right john didn't join manson till 1998 and left in 2005
@dbag0584 thanks I wasnt sure I was remembering right buy I knew it was after 96 as I remeber wathcing marilyn manson on mtv music awards in 97 with zim zum, it was my first experience so I remember it well.
You can tell that he played those riffs for thousands of times by himself! Not just beacase he is holding Paul Stanley's guitar, he legit sounds 100% same as KISS do! He already knows perfect tones and other arrangments for their songs... a true KISS fan!
It makes me happy seeing John so happy. He just seems like a really down to earth humble dude who is as kind as he is flamboyant. Every time I see him in an interview I gain even more respect for him.
Damn I love the opening riff for Mr Speed
SPEED!!!!
I HATE the opening riff to Mr Speed. Talk about an utter pain in the ass to play.
The opening riff is one of the weirdest riff's of all time. It sounds so simple and I tried to learn it by ear and the nuances are a total BITCH. But, the tuning of the record is in semitones. It is not recorded in tune of Eb.
Off of the Eddie Kramer/Kiss masterpiece Rock N' Roll Over! Recently Kramer was on Eddie Trunk about the record and said he said he had goosebumps listening to this riff after Ace first played that opening riff.
Brown sugar riff
I can watch John play for hours. Hes probably one of my favorite guitarists
This just made me a bigger John 5 fan.
For sure
@@Mark-um5hc Yes
What a lovely coat. Perfect for playing a Paul Stanley guitar.
SPEED!!!!
Marty White -- A real fancy coat to play a real fancy guitar of a real fancy boy.
right
vitaly goji jesus 😂
"MR" Speed to you!!!! lol
Mr. Speed!! Yeah man...
SPEED!!!!
My fave
You need lovin, you're looking out for new romances. Yeah it's true, you know you got to take your chances!... Love that KISS song!!!!....
uuuh. but what was the other song he played? at 2:14 ....?
@@outsidethepyramid Detroit Rock City
Knocked em all out of the park. John 5 is such an awesome guitarist.
Mr Speed! The first Kiss single I bought. Actually, it was the B side to Hard Luck Woman, but I must have listened to Mr Speed a thousand times when I was 9. ♥️
I need a 10 hour version of Mr. Speed riff. That guitar sounds incredible.
That tone is instantly recognizable and perfect!
John 5 literally holding a legendary guitar with sparks and shit: *looks at the back of the headstock for nearly 10 seconds* Woah, this is crazy.
He was probably looking on the serial numbers on the headstock
*He cleared that in an interview, he said he was looking at the back of headstock because it had some beautiful engraving on it which read "Peter Parker is Spiderman!"*
@@swarleystinson6733 Woah, this is crazy.
Never realized how fun the main Mr. Speed riff is
the iceman was always a favorite of mine when Stanley had the shattered mirror iceman, such a cool guitar!
HUGE smile ...sure can tell how much it meant to him playing and seeing that guitar
"Man that is fucking cool" I got a chuckle outta that XD
100 point bonus for Mr. Speed!
@Dave Whatever That wasn't sloppy! !
Let us know when they feature you on one of their videos...We'll wait...
Every hardcore Kiss fan just 💀💀 when he played that riff.
Thank you John 5. You validated my take on the solo from “DETROIT ROCK CITY”. My guitar teacher had me playing it a different way when I first started guitar years ago. You are an awesome player and the new Rob Zombie LP is great!
John 5 is a KISS superfan. He has one of the largest collection of KISS memorabilia (from a specific Era) in the world in his garage. He could literally host a KISS museum if he wanted.
I believe he sold a lot of it to fund his collection of early telecasters
He does I watched the video of it on RUclips, stuff I remember from a kid in the 70s.
KISS...not as easy as it looks.
I can say "you lookin' at me?" That doesn't make me DeNiro.
Dave Whatever some may say it's not 'easy as it seems'.
bass guitar no, way easier than it seems
j. Alvarado I was making a KISS reference!
GaelDT me too
I have become a much bigger fan of John 5 the last few years. Cool guy and a great guitarist
I love rock n roll period. But, I gotta look this guy up. He's damn good.
The first time I heard an interview from him was on Niki Sixx's "favorite riffs" a couple years ago, on RUclips. He seemed really cool, and really down to Earth. Since then I've watched more stuff that I find with him, and I agree, is a cool guy.
@@Mark-um5hc Check this out: ruclips.net/video/8HwAyDy3qTg/видео.html
Killer player. Not a fan of the bands he's been involved with much, but 5 is a monster.
Kiss may not have had the best talent but man they wrote a ton of catchy riffs.
they're actually really good musicians. but within the context of KISS they purposefully write catchier , easier on the ears riffs and songs. even in the 70s when pressed they could play at an elite level, they just chose not to. their philosophy is on record as being "keep it simple , stupid."
@@LadyFairChildVideo great philosophy IMO
This is exactly what many players don’t understand man, songwriting and writing things that stay popular for DECADES is a talent all it’s own.
@@jeebusyaweirdo3733 probably the biggest talent
Ace Frehley is one of the most underrated guitarists ever. Some of the best vibratos and string bending I've ever heard, and even tapping before Van Halen. Plus he did all that great guitar work when he was drunk!
Who busts out Mr Speed! Awesome! Man I got play that again
Mr. Speed is my favorite KISS song, and favorite riff of all time.
Kevin Lake First song ?
Daktiger 12 the second part he plays
I have watched this video probably 100 or more times and it’s always fun to watch
That's awesome John 5 jamming out playing some kiss iconic riffs🎸😝🤘
John has been kissed by the guitar Angels! ❤🎸🧚♂️
NEVER stop shredding John!
We love you and your exceedingly beautiful talent ❤🎸🎵🎶❤🎸🎵🎶
John 5, obviously a KISS fan from way back when. He captured the vibe as well as just playing the parts. Cool guitar too!
Sounds of the 70s! brings back so many memories of my KISS tapes rocking a mono cassette player. Forget all the bits, high definition and what have you.. just pure raw sound. Love it.
Two of my favorite guitar heroes. What a. Awesome video clip.
Wow. This will go into every KISS fans favs for sure. And John bustin' out Parasite. What can we all say? Brilliant
I am glad to hear John 5 is a Mr. Speed fan. It is one of my favs.
One of the best in the business right here guys. Id love to see him play with Paul and Ace!
One of the best guys out right now, and seems so humble.
Wish it was 1978 forever
I just wondered what would happen if I would be three years old forever...
No. You dont.
Or 1976(Rock and Roll Over)
That's the year I was born.
Sigh....18 years old..
Paul Stanley is a very underrated guitar player. His sense of pocket is second to none. KISS kicks ass, dont forget it kids.Hotter than Hell is the best riff
You're a legend John! So knowledgable and such a smooth player man, you're wicked. Every interview I've seen you in, you just come across as a real down to earth dude, and you're so open and honest. You definitely don't have a rock star ego. Rock on, bro, you're awesome!
Cool stuff. He has the right feel to play those riffs.
Was never that big a fan of John, but the guy can play! He does these KISS songs just as good as Paul ever did. Underrated guitarist IMO.
It's great to see players who pick up a guitar and can play anything by any other player.
I could watch john 5 play guitar all day long, love him!
Pretty much played the soundtrack in my room growing up in the 70’s.
THATS WHY THE LADIES CALL ME MR SPEED!!!
KISS ARMY FOREVER!!!!
John 5 is such a great talent, when he broke into Detroit Rock City, I wanted grab up my bass and GO!!!
Such a beautiful guitar.
Love this guys work !
Further evidence of Ace Frehley's brilliance.
Frehley hit his peak shortly before the drugs and alcohol took a hold of his life in the late 70's. He was getting better and better in the 70's and then hit a wall. The guy could've been something really special had he been able to control himself. He could come up with some of the catchiest guitar solos.
Gregory Alan Bailey have u listened to trouble walking?
He was playing Paul's rhythm section. It was not Ace's part he was playing.
G.A.B. Its a shame he never really amounted to anything great. He could have been a millionaire with tons of awards and a army of fans behind him. Its crazy to think he might be sleeping on someone's couch right now or under a bridge
BIG D he’s still touring and has a new album coming out. What the hell are you taking about?
This guy can play. Not a lot of string stretching just GREAT PLAYING.
What I love about this video. John 5 an extremely good player. Looking like a kid in a guitar shop like me back in 75
I can’t wait until this November when I get to see Yngwie and John 5 in concert. I am so amped up for a sonic slaughter of my ears. Hell yeah.
He's a smokin ass guitar player in so many ways. Cool dude and vid.
Layne Franklin he is Mansom doesnt deserve him
SPEED!!!!
So cool to see John 5 play Paul's guitar and play KISS riffs !!!,,he knows who is a true guitar and Rock legend ,, wether it be rythym or lead, lots of people just want to hate on Paul Stanley !!!
Man is in his mid to late 40s here and he's like a kid at Christmas getting to touch that guitar. You can feel the happiness from him getting to play that piece of rock history.
What an awesome sounding guitar! And John's not to shabby either ✌️
Anyone who busts out the 'Parasite' riff is a true Kiss fan! Respect to J5!
Same with mr speed. Amazing!
Damn, I always won "Who knows the best Kiss songs guitar contests with Mr. Speed. No longer a sleeper I see. E Major, really cool.
So cool to see him playing KISS licks....🎶🎸🎼👍
„John 5“ was in Love with the KISS guitar. His collection and his genius is also a gift for US!
luv Ibanez Iceman guitars thank you Paul Stanely & Daraon Malakian \m/ 🐧🐧🐧
John 5 made that guitar's day.....finally, after years of Paul Stanley, it was in the hands of a guitarist.
Ooh harsh
You got that right!
Oof
Now, now . . . . . .
Ha ha ha.....don't be cruel....Paul is not a great guitar player ..that's true...but he is the heart of Kiss
One of the best guitarists in the world excited by the Guitar. That's passion.
One of the most underrated guitarists around ! Love J5
That is so great. Now I am going to listen to Mr. Speed. Lol
John 5 is such a cool dude. So laidback and just loves what he does. A true musician and a true fan. Horns up for John 5!!! 🤘😈🤘
Great Mr. Speed, I have it as a ringtone
John5 seem's like such a nice guy!
Not to mention talented beyond belief!
Not say John is a kick ass guitar player and one of my favorites, but Ace wrote alot of awesome riffs!!
Awesome guitarist
John you so amazing! I can tell you are a true Kiss fan. Playing songs like Ladies room and Parasite.
Fantastic kiss riffs he’s great
*John 5 é um dos melhores guitarristas do mundo. Um dos mais talentosos, virtuosos, E... GENTE BOA.*
certamente
At 1:31, what is the name of that flamenco tune?
Oh my God this is one of the best things I've ever seen and heard on RUclips this guy just picked up this guitar went into all kinds of oblique and not so oblique Kiss songs wow I don't know who this guy is never heard of him plus the guy seemed completely modest down-to-earth while man wow man just wow just wow what a cool dude what a talented guitar player
I'm surprised that he didn't end up with that guitar. It's just killer to see another BIG KISS fan geek out over something like that! Very cool!
That would be sooooo wicked if John 5 played in KISS with his morbid skull make-up on. Would never happen, but just saying it would be a 180 character that KISS fans would be used to .
Paul Osicne
Gene and Paul wouldn't allow it unless they obtained the trademark to Johns makeup design.
This is true. Paul wouldn't allow it as he's the real owner of KISS. Gene is just a long-term employee with benefits under Paul.
The name would fit well since he would be the fifth member ;)
John 5 is definitely one of the greatest guitarist ever
Underrated at the very least.
Wow, very cool video. That Iceman is part of the rock history!
John is a great player and a very humble guy.
What song is the second riff he plays? edit: Mr Speed, found out.
The guy on the right looks like Adam Savage of the guitar world.
This man is wholesome. He always will be.
The only I've been had guitar that looks and sounds good
That is about as cool as you can get. By the way, the fur reminds me of Foreigner back in Head Games/Double Vision days.
Chewbacca can rock man😁
gtiman67 chewie playing mr speed should always be a thing 🤣
John 5 is such a great player of so many styles. First time I heard him was on the song "Slam Dunk" when he played for David Lee Roth in 1998. Holy shit, such a great display of guitar mastery.
John5, what a great musician and nice guy!
Mr. Speed! My fave
Name of songs in order?

1. Detroit Rock City (Solo)
2. Mr.Speed
3.Detroit Rock City
4. Parasite
Awesome John!
amazing !!
My ex-wife always hated when I'd play snippets and intros like he did.
"Why can't you play the whole thing?!"
Once, I handed her the guitar and said "Be my guest."
Just one of the myriad reasons she's my *ex* wife...
I want her to name 1 guitarist who doesn’t do this or play random riffs and random noodling, glad you got out
@@josequintero7250 See, that's the thing: noodling around is how I warm up.
She's such an ignoramus that she asked me one time if the uncut ends of the strings coming from the winding posts were for "better reception."
She'd also call B.C. Rich "R.C. Barns"
As I tell plenty of folks: Divorce was the second best thing that ever happened to me.
@@Holden_McGroyn sounds like you were the source of the problem, in all honesty. you every try to explain things to her? people dont just automatically know things. especially if she doesnt have a background in music. you cant expect a baby to play read music, much less play mozart🤷🏻♀️ seems like youve got that stereotypical boomer personality where youre always right no matter what because youre the man of the house LOL
