Well there goes that whole "If I only had a better guitar" excuse.
As a guitar picker for over 50 years. Great comment!
Having a nice aesthetically pleasing guitar will make you want to pick it up and practice more too so go on! Treat yourself 😉😉
No not really. He might sound decent on that thing, but he would sound even better on a good guitar, obviously, hence a good guitar is better to play on irregardless of lvl of playing skill. However you cant claim you cant play a certain song at all on a cheaper guitar, but you can however claim you cant play it how it is suppose to be played.
yes, all guitars play the same, only thing that really noticeably changes is your skills but if you suck, you will suck on a $1,000 guitar with a $5,000 amp as well as a $50 guitar and $100 amp.
ikr
I met John after a Marilyn Manson concert once and he was the nicest most down to earth guy. It was very cool
I met him about ten years ago after a Zombie show in Birmingham UK. He walked up to me and my friend and just stared silently at me right in my face with drool dripping down out of his mouth. He was still in full makeup, so still in character maybe ! Was so uncomfortable though 😐
@@hannahtariq7158 Cocaine's hella of a drug
@@crowley1907 John wouldn't know, he's not into the whole drug scene. Considering what he does for a living, he's a pretty straight laced musician.
Same experience here except he was playing for Zombie. Met him by complete chance as he was walking around the festival venue a few hours before he was supposed to play. Took some pics with me, signed my admission ticket and we actually had a great talk about some articles he used to write for guitar magazines.
He was the most polite, humble and friendly dude! It felt like I was talking to an old friend. It was a great expierence
@@seanjoseph3813 Very cool! We talked classic guitars for about 10 minutes. It was really neat and I agree it was like talking to an old friend!
So what style you play John?

"Your gear isn't bad. You just suck at guitar" - John 5 throughout this whole video

Being good at guitar and practicing is the biggest part, but having gear that sounds like shit is a huge demoralizer

Nah this is all bc the gear

You probably don’t know how to break ln strings
TheTyler701 please enlighten me
EpiphoneDude theirs a ton of stuff you do. But lts mainly when you change them. That’s what decides how they do.
A: always tune the strings “up” so that lt tightens the string. So if the lower E is at f#, don’t just go down to E. Go up from D.
B: when you change the strings, pinch the strings at where you pick and retune. ln addition, also bend all over the neck. You will tune and retune until your strings are broken in and you can’t untune lt simply by bending the strings. This will prevent a fresh set from “settling” lnto the wrong spot.
C: always wipe your strings down with a cloth after you play. The oils from your hands not only ruin the strings way faster, but also messes up the intonation and how well they hold tune.
I'm not a huge fan of most of the bands he's played in but having said that he is an amazing musician and I love that he can play in so many styles.
I have always said that the bands he played in just didn’t showcase what he was actually capable of.
John 5 just answer the biggest question for musicians "does gear matter?"
Conclusion: yes.
When u need to learn and practice, cheap, but fairly stable gear should be enough. But when you are getting into the professional side of the guitar industry (like recording songs, performing at gigs) then that’s where you need to have solid, high quality gear.
Doesn't matter if you really want to learn something badly. But if you play guitar just for fun, good gear is better because less chance you quit
Gear doesn't matter when you are a master like him
@@user-xb4ev2oi8b your conclusion is wrong. I am a musician. I presume you concluded that i am not a musicians becuase you didnt agree with me. Now that is pretty narrow minded of you, to expect everyone to have the same opinion.

i dont think so smart ass
I have a friend from a long time ago that was raced motorcycles and he had a saying, "It's not what you ride, it's how you ride and I can beat you on a Honda Kick and Go".
Truth, mate. I help out at a training band and I see too many people blaming instruments for their own mistakes. Occasionally I get so fed up I end up taking the instrument off them and demonstrating how it can make a nice sound no matter how garbage it is.
@@MrHuey44 ok smart ass this video proves it
My dad has a college degree in classical guitar and he can't make make my trumpet sound good.
Explain that
I like that he played Seek And Destroy instead of one of the overplayed Metallica songs like Enter Sandman
The most common question I’m asked when doing drawing demos is: “what kind of pen are you using?” Yes the instrument is important but this goes to show you that tone and technique is inherent in the individual. Use good gear when you can but put the other 99 percent into becoming a better artist
I second that. While different pens are real fun. Only good artists know how much fun basic bic pens are. You want watercolor? You get watercolor.
You want to sketch? You can sketch.
You want ink? You can ink.

john 5 has a pact with hello kitty
John 5 sold his soul to Hello Kitty at a crossroads in Mississippi
If Hello Kitty wasn't intellectual property worth billions, this would be funny, instead of a plea to whatever diety exists to please put us out of our misery.

This is how you showcase talent So impressive to watch these videos of truly gifted musicians
I'm sad that Mick had to retire but I'm glad John 5 is the one taking his place on stage
Imagine being the tech who was tasked with setting up a Hello Kitty guitar for John 5 to play.
Literally my first thought, 1 second into the video XD
The guy is a musical treasure trove. I knew he could pull off Industrial Metal, Shred, Bluegrass and everything inbetween, but it looks like there's literally nothing he can't do. How a musical genius like that got stuck with Manson is beyond me. His solo work and his one-off collabs are incredible in their own right. He's basically like an Yngwie Malmsteem of our age, but he's way too humble to get the same exposure and recognition.
When people ask me who my favorite/who i think the best "overall" guitar player is, John 5 is typically in my arguments. His diversity/skill/passion is 👌👌👌!!! Friday nights he can play banjo at a locol fair, and Saturday night hes playing metal. I would bet big money that ANY band could call him and he would fit rite in, no matter the genre.

Proving again that it's not the guitar that makes you a good player, you need skill.
In all fairness, that's not an entirely accurate thing to pull from this video. The video is just a quick joke and nothing more. That toy guitar is going out of tune, sounds like poo, and everything you would expect from a toy guitar. If you sat down some random bedroom guitarist next to him with a legit instrument, and covered the screen, you would most likely think that the person with a good instrument is more enjoyable to listen to. Maybe you'd notice John 5's technical ability is way better, but to simply enjoy the sound of the instrument, then probably not.
This is true, to a point, but not totally true.
