My dad had a Maruti 1000 when I was a child. We modified it's colour from grey to violet. Our neighbours used to call it Tarzan the wonder car. It was a car which was worth modifying.
In other countries, the Esteem was called the swift. This was the sedan version. The hatchback version of that era (1990s) had the same front end as this.
The Esteem was based on the Suzuki Cultus platform. General Motors sold their versions in North America as the Chevrolet Sprint, Pontiac Firefly and Geo Metro. The Pontiac Firefly was sold exclusively in Canada, as well as the sedan version of the Geo Metro. Suzuki sold the Esteem in the U.S. and Canada, which was based on the Cultus Crescent platform and sold in Europe and India as the Baleno.
The Esteem is actually called the Swift Cultus sedan, and 1st gen swift(that's never sold in India) hatch was based on that sedan, after that the Dzire 1st gen replaced the cultus(Esteem) then came the Ciaz as a successor. P.S :- SX4 is not a successor of esteem but the old Baleno sedan.

Durga Car Decor is to Faisal, what CNC Motors is to Doug! I miss this car a lot. I still believe it is one of the last great cars previously sold by Maruti, and that G13 engine actually powered the legendary Gypsy as well.
Well it seems like old cars were more fun to drive than present car. Also they sounded great too be it esteem, old city, were capable of clocking 100kmph in 2nd gear, i doubt modern day cars under 10 lakh could do the same.
Even we had an Esteem Lxi. At that point of time Esteem also had an Axi the automatic transmission surprisingly. Try if you get hold of that car for a review.

Both G10B and G13B in Zen and Esteem were bullet proof engines and yes engines were delightfully vocal. All newer engines are very weak. Try downshifting from 100kmph ( in thrid or fourth gear) to second with agressive brakes , most newer marutis k series tappet shims will go for a toss whereas the G10 and G13 could do it all day long and the clutches didn't burn or gearboxes didnot bursted. Both Zen and Esteem engine, drivetrains were bomb proof. We have a Zen with G10B and it has hit revlimiter in first and second gear nearly everytime the car is fired up. At traffic light people turn with growl at high rpms. The engine is extremely vocal by default.
So true, I drove my esteem with a broken 2nd gear synchro for over 150000kms, it still didn't slip that particular gear, it was only when I repaired the GB that I realised what was wrong, still keeping my esteem which now stands at 2.65L kms, have the ownership since 2012 and I do not recall even a single breakdown, the odo has rolled to 0 twice, and the esteem still pulls like a beast, I have more faith on my esteem's reliability than any newer cars that I have.
I'm assuming and expecting that the next vlog is gonna be of the Grand Vitara! 😂😎. Just please review it, doesn't matter tomorrow or whenever. Even the SX4 if possible!

Maruti is always known for making great engines with incredible mid range punch and sounds so good in the top end! And even today too, the 1.2 litre K12C engine is just amazing especially with manual gearbox!
