  • This is a tutorial and example of how to use the active track feature on a drone while riding a motorcycle. This video is specifically about the DJI Mavic Air but the process is the same on any drone with active track or follow me available in the quick fly features.
    At the end is an example of the type of footage you are able to get when flying a drone that follows you on your motorcycle.

    Hey Tim cool video. I am a commercial drone pilot and here is a rule you want to consider. “No person may operate a small unmanned aircraft system
    From a moving aircraft
    From a moving land or water-borne vehicle unless the small unmanned aircraft is flown over a sparsely populated area and is not transporting another person’s property for compensation or hire”

    Tim, I'm not a drone or even photo type guy, but it is great to see you receiving all the positive comments below of those who are or planning to move into the drone world. Clearly there is a 'market' for such knowledge out there. Might want to keep developing it. A big thumbs up for your innovation with this vid.

    Tim, enjoyed the video. Good footage at the end. One thing to consider is that you can change the speed in post production making it look like you are going at a faster rate of speed. Use with caution as the little movement hiccups will tell off on you. One other thing worth mentioning is the antennas on the controller work best if straight up,
    I first bought the Mavic Pro just because of its size to be able to carry it with me on bike trips. I intend to start using it to add footage to my videos. It's a little tougher here, forest areas are not friendly to self flying drones.
    Ride smart and looking forward to more drone footage on your channel.

    Thanks for the tips, mate. I guess you'd like to paste some retro reflective fluorescent orange paper onto the back of your drone. Orange is the complementary colour of blue in the colour wheel and really stands out against blue sky. It's also easy to spot against dark clouds or green leaves. Looking forward to more such pro-level tutorials.

    Another one of my many hobbies and interests is flying RC aircraft, the 100% active piloted type, haven't played with one of these self flying ones with training wheels yet, LOL. ;) Just thought I'd throw in that yes, absolutely, a wide stripe of contrasting color makes them MUCH easier to see. Reflective or neon even better, and if it's offset to one end or the other it can also help with orientation. Most often I'll put a wide stripe on the bottom of one wing on an airplane, but definitely on the bottom for obvious reasons. A good source is sign shops. They've almost always got some scraps laying around they'll give away for free, and even if you have to buy a little piece it won't be much. I've built several planes that I've decorated entirely with scrap sign vinyl mined from dumpsters behind sign shops, LOL.

    • @FTAAdventures

      LOL I am just not that skilled to fly and ride at the same time yet so I still need the training wheels haha. Great tip, I am going to get some of that reflective tape. Thanks!

    Sweet footage & informative video. I think it would be cool to have a drone but I can’t think of much that I do that others are dying to see. When you incorporate clips of drone footage into your videos it really adds to the whole video. Magpie and Pedro Moto do this as well and it is really great and adds a lot. Just not sure, without the RUclips Chanel format if people would want to watch my footage:-) How are you liking your tank bag? I also have the Nomad & I’m still getting used to it. I like it well enough but I haven’t fallen in love yet.

    • @FTAAdventures
      @FTAAdventures  4 года назад +1

      Thanks Rik! I love the tank bag, it took some getting used to going from the one big pocket (that you can stuff a ton of stuff into) to switching to the smaller tank bag with more pockets but everything stays super organized.

    Thanks for a great tutorial! You're "pro tip" on using the middle USB port on the controller is genius!
    I have been having issues where my Mavic Air will only Active Track for about 1,500 feet even when I am using the controller. You mentioned at about 5:20 that with the controller it doesn't have a limit "unless you set it that way". I haven't changed any settings so maybe mine are wrong by default? Could you tell me where the setting is so it will follow me in Active Track until *I* decide to stop? Thanks!
