Can the DJI Mavic Air 2 handle high speed winds of over 50KPH?!? I set out to find out. And when I asked myself if doing it over water was a good idea, I didn't pause to finish thinking about it.
In this test I put the DJI Mavic Air 2 to the test in multiple modes from normal to Active Track, sport modes, and regular take-off and landing fun. Plus how it handles with a wee bit of water spray and more!

This video sold my brother. A week later I’m returning my new Mavic Mini and buying this one. Not only can it handle the wind which makes it much more usable, the camera and features are awesome for the price I think.

Hi folks,we flew our mavic air 2 in the Patagonia (Lago General Carrera) at 100m of altitud with strong winds and even with the sport mode we almost lost it!!! It seems obvious but when you have strong winds you must find the lowest possible altitud (and pray) then you might have it back. Great video DC Rainmaker !

thanks for the wind test and wow! Well done on your very confident flying. My adrenaline was flowing just watching you. I had a similar flight with my Parrot Anafi last fall outside of Glacier National Park in Montana during a snowstorm. I had similar difficulties landing as you did, Winds were 35mph gusting to 55 mph. I got some beautiful fall colors in the panorama of the 10K ft peaks. That storm dropped 51 inches of snow.

Coming from a Mavic Mini, it’s incredible to see how much wind the Air 2 is able to sustain. My mini would start drifting away when experiencing wind speed of over 15mph. I’m overall happy with my mini, but gosh, the Air 2 seems to just give you the peace of mind and confidence when flying in more extreme conditions.
Love the footage of the huge wave soaking the cyclist..that would look cool in a slowmo clip..

Perfect!! You have done the test I have been waiting to see... I hike a lot and some of those ridges get super windy. Getting rid of the Phantom 4 pro to get this. Much easier to pack around. 😉✌🏾

Very helpful! New user and I held off using it in lesser winds than this because I did not want to wave goodbye forever to my new drone! This really helped! I take combat wounded vets hunting and fishing and need to know I can film even in windy situations. How about snow???

Good info. I don’t think I would ever have tried in those conditions but it looks like it would be possible if there were some particular footage you wanted to get. The smoothness of the footage is amazing.
There are some cliffs I want to film at where the wind means I don't think I could get away with the Mini unless I was lucky with the weather. Air 2 looks like it can cope, though!
I wouldn't advice trying Mini in cliffs in a windy weather. The reason is that in cliffs you have wind gusts circulating vertically and for them Mini is like a sail. My Mini was flipped over by one of such gusts in dunes, fortunately I found it. Actually, for me winds and wind gusts is one of the biggest reasons to look for a new drone.
@@MinrasDotCom That's a good point: wind does not just have to be horizontal: there can be turbulence, especially near other objects or undulating terrain.
Great video and what a cool spot for flying the drone. That long road and the sea with the big waves and the old lighthouse in the end of the road. I think you can make a mystery horror mini series in this place with your drone 😄

Damn dude you're hella confident in that drone that's badass I have that drone in the little mini 2 I've been flying the mini. I live in Phoenix so not much wind but last few days we have and I've been trying it out it does pretty darn good. But when you're hauling ass in sport mode and you let off in the wind it gets a little tricky

Today I learned that the wind limits in the spec appears to refer to having a straight horizon in crosswinds but I can still fly in stronger winds. The landing problems though...
Yeah, it was crazy, but it makes total sense: The sea-water flying over the concrete basically make it look like active water or moving ground. Now...it not wanting to shut off...

Nice video! I have a question for you, the Mavic Air 2 has a motorized gimbal while the Mini and Pro have Mechanical gimbals, for the life of me cant find what it really means
