    I just got my first drone - the Mavic Air 2. So far, I've been thrilled with how easy it is to operate. I appreciate your walk-thru's of the menus. So many videos are long winded with vague explanations. I've sat through dozens of them without really learning anything except the maker's life story. Thanks!

    This is one of the best instructional videos for my new Mavic Air 2S that I've come across yet. Most of the others go so fast and leave a lot of detail out assuming we all know what they are talking about. Extremely well done and very professional! You explain what your doing while doing it showing the Fly app screen and the Drone live response. I just got my drone and already learned one lesson the hard way. After a couple successful quick shots my attempt Helix expanded until it hit a tree. It’s really important for a newbie to learn the capabilities and limitations of Active Track and Obstacle Avoidance. I plan to use my Mavic Air 2 to capture videos while hiking and biking to waterfalls and view points in beautiful North Carolina. Thanks again!

    Thanks for the very helpful video. I'm a total newbie to this so this type of tutorial is spot on.
    My question about trace tracking is:
    If you activate it with the drone at a low altitude like 10 feet above you, will it stay at that altitude as it tracks you? I want to have it track me through a wooded disc golf course. There is room above me along the fairways but the tree canopy starts at about 25 feet.
    Any advice on this will be much appreciated!

Question, when locking on in active track to a car you mentioned to be 10 to 20 feet from the subject. After locking on can I raise the drone to 50 feet and still stayed locked on and have it follow the car?

    Will active track of the various settings track objects that are not carrying the remote? For example; can I outline and track a cow or sheep in my field while I hold the remote back in the house yard?...or does it only track the person or vehicle holding the remote. The drone does not track the remote. It will track any subject it can lock onto using your phone screen. Usually the subject has to be still, or moving very slowly. It will track for as far as you have signal. Thanks for sharing. Send anymore questions you might have.

    I learned a lot from this video, and agree, the Air 2 is better than any past DJI drones for most things. I live in Tennessee and if a place is scenic in my opinion, it has tall trees. I have not used active track yet as I am still getting the feel of flying my new drone. I was disappointed to hear you say that the drone will not lock on at a distance of 100'. That means that I will rarely be able to use parallel or POI modes. My Question, there is a lake nearby with a trail around it close to the water with no trees between the trail and the water. If I park the drone over or at the edge of the water, and use parallel mode, will it stay on that side of me over the water and away from trees? If it will always be on the water side as I make my circle, it should be safe.

    • @uosocal
      @uosocal  3 года назад +1

      The drone probably won't lock on from that far. But, once you lock on, the drone can stay locked on from much farther. It should stay on one side as long as you are not moving too fast.

    • @uosocal
      @uosocal  3 года назад +1

      I think the hardest thing will be keeping the remote dry. Unless someone else is controlling the drone, you will have to keep the remote and phone dry while you record. Then it depends on how fast you will be going. In Normal mode( sensors on) under 16mph, active track Trace. Between 16-25mph parallel. Anything over that, you will have to use sport mode( no sensors). If the drone icon is a walking person after you lock on, then it may max out below 25mph.

    • @larssol1

    Hey Question …. Do you prefer a Skydio drone for mountain biking or the Dji drone ??

    • @uosocal
      @uosocal  2 года назад

      Skydio 2 for action tracking. Dji for everything else.

    Ive never had a issue turning the drone on first, why do you suggest turning the Remote on first?

    • @uosocal
      @uosocal  3 года назад +1

      It is a safety step I brought over from flying FPV drones. When the drone turns on first, there is nothing telling it to stay put. An FPV drone could just take off when turned on. I have turned on Mavic drones several times without the remote being on, but you just never know.

    Great tutorial to say the least. Just wondering, I've got the Mavic Air and could not notice the poi mode (circling around). Is this only a feature of the Mavic 2?

    Hello dear friend, do you know about the issue of stress cracked on the Mavic Air 2? I see many people complaining about that problem lately and many of them only having the drone for about one month or two. If possible please let us know what’s the reason for that issue and if DJI are aware that problem and what we should do if the drone is under warranty. Should DJI refund the money or replace for a brand New one. Best Regards from Cleveland, Ohio. Jorge Rebelo

    • @uosocal
      @uosocal  3 года назад

      I hadn't heard anything about this. I am not affiliated with DJI in any way. I don't have any cracks on my drone. It could have been a bad batch of llastics they used. You should definitely pursue them about this, and see if they will replace your drone. Good luck.

    How would the Active Track get on in a wooded covered area? We have a nearby path which runs under some trees, so the drone would be beneath the trees. The path is quite open and has sufficient height, but I would worry about GPS connectivity. Great videos - thanks so much!

    • @uosocal
      @uosocal  3 года назад +1

      I don't think the tree cover would affect the gps. It will lock onto several at any one time. The drone may not track as fast depending on how much clearance there is.

    Have a 2S… no crashes with the parallel mode but it just stops. I’m left thinking that Dji needs to program a backup from there, gain altitude through a hole and re-enter the parallel following where it can.

    • @uosocal
      @uosocal  3 года назад +1

      No crashes is great. I would rather have it stop, then get into a bad situation. I think the lack of side sensors is just too limiting. I've been using the Skydio 2 on my mtb. The tracking is amazing.

    • @Doc.Holiday
      @Doc.Holiday 3 года назад +1

      @@uosocal I was torn between the Skydio 2 and the 2s… dji needs to up its follow me game. I’m 68 so my technical mtb days are behind me. You have the right drone if you are ripping technical downhill. My primary thing these days is fly fishing. Unfortunately the 2s is limited with sensors for sideways and reverse so it isn’t just a software upgrade.

    • @Doc.Holiday

      @@uosocal … the other thing Skydio2 has going is the Beacon. The 2s has to be manually up-dated for return home and the controller must be constantly deployed. Can’t do that mtb. I don’t understand why dji doesn’t go the Beacon route too? Must be some copy-write issue? They could at least have an option for the return home to focus on the controller instead of the initial launch ground point.
