In 1992 I attended the retirment ceremony for a female LDO Captain. Before she finished speaking she broke down and cried. She had joined the Corps in 1969 when women were asked to serve and "Free a man to fight". She never wanted to be under the same stadards as male Marines. She never wanted to wear cammies or a male compatable uniform. She never wanted to have a male only MOS, she wanted to serve in the capacity that she enlisted for. This change has been coming for many years, it's been empowering for some women and equally devasting to others. Many were pushed out to make way for the new women of the Corps. Truly Bitter Sweet.

Yes, the drum major's bearskin is modeled after the British. The red uniforms of the USMB and the Drum and Bugle Corps honor field musics who wore the opposite color of their unit to be easily located by the commander.
Shows how much of the US Army & Navy are modelled on the British. The Band Major is wearing a Busby, same a British Guards Battalions. Not that, that is a bad thing.

I would guess it's because it July, one of the hottest months of the year, and they are wearing those dress uniforms, which are probably very uncomfortable under the Sun.
Andrew Johnston Yes, These are the “sunset Parades” that go every Friday night (I think) in Washington D.C. and are freely available to the public. They are better lit when there in person, and the spotlights are definitely part of the effect and glamor of uniforms, instruments, etc.
That's what makes it a "Sunset Parade" and it's not particularly important. The original purpose of sunset, evening and twilight parades was to entertain the garrison civilians since military life was so boring. It is more of a social event than a military event.

Only warrants and commissioned officers get a salute
