Am a Kenyan Police Officer. This ceremony is just great. I love the American Military. The music reminds me when I used to play Euphonium, Trombone, Baritone and Connect in the Administration Police Band Kenya. I really have great respect to the Marines. Semper Fidelis!!!
50 years ago, I was young, cute and small. My friends and I quickly learned to go to a bar Marines liked. We had a good time with scrupulously polite men who would tuck us into. Cabs. Marines are GREAT.
My great grandson just graduated from Boot Camp and is now a full fledged Marine!! God bless him and all our Marines, past and present! I am so very proud!!
as a former active duty marine i have never had the opportunity to witness this in person ,,but i gotta tell you this gives me chills and brings a tear to my eye with every note,,
My brother was a corpsman at the same time I was a Marine. He had some good stories on how they used to mess with us, and one of my experiences bore this out, but I hold no grudges. Underneath the surface high jinx and rivalry was mutual admiration.
His Book ; To fully understand , I felt I needed to read his book . Absolutely amazing... I started reading and literally finished in one sitting. It will absolutely touch every emotion you have ... must read !!! God Bless our USMC ..
AWESOME!!! I'm totally speechless!! As a young Marine I could only dream to see a Medal Of Honor recipient.. Now I have and he's my brother as all Marines are!!! Semper Fidelis!!!
I once met a Marine who was standing in a battalion at Marine Barracks Washington for Cpl Kyle Carpenter's Medal of Honor ceremony, I couldn't even imagine the tremendous honor to be at such an historic event! Semper Fi Marines!
My son and daughter- in -law know Sgt Dakota Meyer and when my son became a Marine she tweeted about it and tagged him on 9-3-2013. He Rt it and told her he would have come had he known. He’s a great Marine and that showed me he is a good friend as well.
I am proud to be an American, however, I would have never been able to live to the level or perform to the level that this man has demonstrated in the reality of war. He has taken his position among all of the heros of the past (known and unknown) who have served this country at the level he demonstrated. I am honored just to have witnessed this ceremony. He has reset the bar for giving to others at the risk of his own life. No man can give a greater gift to his fellow man than such an act. May God bless him and all he loves. He now enters the the hallowed halls of all of his predecessors and those sure to follow. He has become an iconic symbol in his performance in preserving my freedom.
dale wyatt dale... you DO NOT have to give your life in combat. You DO NOT have to be Dakota nor anyone else who has received the Medal of Honor. No! You do not have to go through USMC boot camp, SOI, BRC, MARSOC, etc. If, you are a good UPSTANDING American then you have done well. Look out for your fellow American. Keep him/her SAFE and continue on. Don't hide. Be an American. Seems that you are already there. Finally, EDUCATE yourself. All Marines do. Active and retired. Thanks, Dale!
10 years of my life spent in our Beloved Corps. Now 24 years later I'm still serving in another branch. Forever a United States Marine, "Once a Marine, Always a Marine".
Thank You very much for your love, honor, and dedication in what I know is the best branch of the military, The United States Marine Corps. I Thank you very much for the sacrifice to our country for all who have fallen and their families. I hope that God will help each family learn how to continue their life without their beloved son or daughter. My appreciation for all who have earned the title, I say Thank You for being out there protecting all of us from terrorism. Both of my kids ( grown men,h as it is known due to my name ) Serve with all of you protecting a country of people whom you will never meet and vice versa. As you have stated, Once a Marine Always a Marine. Semper Fidelis
I have to say this," All Marines are Men." I wanted to be a Marine, but I was 5'2" tall,wt 110 lbs. The recruiter talk to me like a man ,He said,Can you pick me up from the floor and carry me out of harms way? I said, I don't think I can do that. He told me that No Marine is left behind, go to the nearest gym,work-out every day for a year, come back and I will make you a Marine. I join the Army. God Bless the Marine Corp.
Puts a lump in my throat. Reaffirms my faith in this nations people. When we are surrounded by the spoiled, pampered and selfish I can look at this and realize that the concepts of Honor & Integrity still exists for many of us. This young man (along with the Privates in the background) are perfect examples of this. A life long honor well desearved and honorably earned.
Our Brothers and Sisters who gave their last full measure, as long as one Marine draws breath, neither they, nor their sacrifices, will ever be forgotten. Each observance of these sorts, are but a reminder to us all, of who they were and what they did. They are not forgotten. I am Older Corps...

The precision, the pride of every marine shows! I almost enlisted in the Corps in 1970 despite there being a very gruelling conflict in Vietnam, and despite being a Canadian living in Canada. Didn't make that choice and regret it! To be a brother in the best brotherhood in the world would have been reward in itself! I hear that United States Marines guard heaven's streets! I'm ready to go to heaven's boot camp so I can wear the Eagle, Globe and Anchor and stand my post! Oohrah! Semper Fi, Marines.
Proud to be a american.USMC Band the best!!! Semper Fi! Happy Birthday Marines. 245 and getting better every Year. God Bless all my sisters And brothers!!!
I am not a Marine, but have the greatest respect. I thank God we now a have man who I believe will cover your back and not hinder you in battle, but hopefully give all you need to defend our country. Semper Fidelis Marines. I thank God for you.
Watching this gave me chills! And I am originally from Panama. Now a naturalized US citizen and very proud. Would have gave up anything to join the Marines. Maybe in my next life as the years have now caught up with me and disqualify me to join. Can't wait though.......
Sgt Dakota Meyer represents what is true in every fighting man the courage honor and commitment to all branches of the services including forign allied forces Semper Fideles Sgt Meyer!
Most people forget, look how many have forgotten why we're at war now. Thanks for remembering, thanks for becoming a Marine. I remember when that happened my father, a Vietnam Vet, telling me - your generation is going to have to fight these idiots. He was right.
As a European it heartens me to see the elite of the nation, whose very birth signified the end of tyranocracy, in the garb of feudal slave soldiers. Contradictingly, it shows that the spirit of freedom is alive and well. Tak!
Dakota Meyer. Dakota Louis Meyer (born June 26, 1988) is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and the War in Afghanistan. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions during the Battle of Ganjgal on September 8, 2009, in Kunar Province, Afghanistan.
My step dad joined up December 8th, 1941 from Weslaco Texas, where a year or so later another Weslaco High student would follow in his steps. They met up again on Iwo where my stepdad received his 2nd Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. His junior classmate, Harlan Block would be forever captured in history as 1 of the flag raisers. My dad fought from Guadalcanal to Okinawa, leaving the Corps in 46 as a Gunny. He had 3 Purple Hearts, 2 Bronze Stars and a Silver Star. He always kept a small poorly made U.S. Flag in a frame in my parents bedroom. I remember that beside being poorly made it had dirt and what l learned was blood, his blood. When I asked about it, here's his reply. " That is a very special flag, its not made right, but, ever star, every stripe on it was shown by a man, who if it had been discovered would have been executed. The man was a village elder on an island in the P.I. chain of islands. My son is a Marine, about 20 years now. He had the chance to join the Marine Corp band playing trumpet. He turned it down. I ask him why he didn't do it. He said:" I didn't join the Marine Corps to blow my horn".
Ron Webb There is no disgrace to being in the band. They are fully qualified to fight. The band is a symbol of the Corps also, a great public relations presence.
The Marine Corps Band is made up of talented musicians. They request an audition, pay their way to that audition, and either pass or fail. That is the Presidents Own. It doesn't matter why you joined, you joined. You didn't sit at home on your backside. You were there making us proud of your contribution as a "Master Musician", proficient in several instruments... and bringing tears when "The Hymn" is played. Serve with pride and honor.
