The pain, the sadness, yet a slight sense of relief and kindness.
Kindness does not signify weakness. No truer is that fact than in the mortuary services.
Soldiers who go out of their way to see to it that the fallen find their way home truly are a rare and noble breed.

In this case a marine, not a soldier, but that's okay. It's offensive to call a marine a soldier. You can call them service members of the United States Armed Forces if you're referring to all veterans like this fine young marine and gentleman. I'm telling you this so you won't be screamed at or criticized by others on the internet. R.I.P to all who lost they're lives in all branches of the US military and those who can't be with us today. (Hand Salute*) /)(o_o) OOH RAH! Semper Fi!

@Duffelbag Drag Fu^k off. Sadly, the US has turned into yet another corrupt banana republic. I made that comment two years ago (with a different screen name and icon) at a time when I still believed in my country. Now the country is run by a senile old puppet and every three letter department has been weaponized against the American people. You probably don't know that in the so-called "Infrastructure" bill that was just passed, Congress approved the funding and hiring of 87,000 more IRS agents.

You're right. They only ask one thing of us ... a proper burial .... and it's our job to see to it that they get it. I had had less than 3 hours sleep in as many days when I preached my fathers funeral sermon. By the grace of God, i was given the strength of character to get it done as if I was a well-rested stranger. My father did NOT love me ... but I loved him ... so I got it done.

Burying a loved one is always hard. One of the most moving things I have ever witnessed was the USMC Honor guard that came to bury my Uncle Tommy. 98 degrees with 80% humidity in full dress uniform and never so much as moved to wipe the sweat.

Back in the 90's I was the senior member of a burial detail for a retired MSgt. He served from 1950 to 1970.
When we arrived at the funeral home prior to the service. I alerted the funeral home staff the MSgt's EGAs were incorrect and the anchors must be pointed inboard. "Is it that important to disturb the body in order to make the change"? I said I'm sure the MSgt would not want to be viewed in his uniform while it was incorrect. We were asked to leave the area while they made the correction. When the service started the MSgt was squared away.

My Father is a Marine. To make a long story short. A young man who had consulted with my father became a marine. Years later when my father passed. This young man drove 14 hours to be at my fathers grave side. I am brought to tears every time I relay the story and am tearing up now. Thank you Mark Badgley.

This has got to be the most appreciated jobs by soldiers. To know that your crew have your back is one thing. To know that on your death no matter what your body is going to be cared for with the deepest and sincerest respect has got to be a blessing. All credit to the mortuary marines and bearers for their excellence.

Marines take care of their own. A sublime understatement. I am an airline pilot. Former Air Force. Although I have never had the honor of transporting service member's remains, I have witnessed this happen and it is a solemn and emotional ceremony. I have had the honor of taking wounded soldiers, sailors and Marines to and from their rehabilitation hospitals in San Antonio and Washington DC. Every one of them is escorted to, and picked up from the aircraft by an active duty escort. It is amazing to see, the brotherhood runs deep. Thank you all for your sacrifice, thank you for protecting our nation, our way of life. Thank you for your service!

As an Airman, in the USAF, I was stationed at Dovver AFB and had the blessed opportunity to serve as a Body Escort for a fallen Airman who had lost his life in an automobile accident in Germany. I have to say that those who serve at the Port Mortuary, at Dover AFB, and I must say that they are all professional beyond professional. Much love and thanks to all of them!!!!

You can hear that this matters to him, it's no act or simple job. It matters because they are his brothers and sisters and he looks after family.
From a Royal Marine I say, well done brother, good effort. I hope you and yours are safe and well.
