There is such a thing out there (I have one myself) but I can’t see it being practical for Marines out there. They’re better off rigging some sort of crank

It's weird but I miss some of the shit like this. It's a struggle living like that but I still miss it for some reason. It was a shitty time being deployed to Iraq both times but it's also something that I look back on as experiences that really taught me a lot. It sounds crazy but I miss it all.
Making the best of any circumstance definitely is a reminder of the stern within. ❤

I was in the Air Force in Desert Storm, when we first arrived I washed my clothes like this. Then a little later the Saudis provided us laundry service.
I stopped using it for I often got wrong uniform items back BDU Pants to small, to short, etc. So I went back to doing my own laundry again as most everyone else did.
We would lay our clothing out on the walls behind the jets to dry, the concrete was hot as hell. Whenever they alerted and powered up our clothing was blown out into the desert. Yup war is hell

I honestly don't understand how people hate our men/ women of the military. Do you not see what they go threw? This is just one thing of thousands. You at home get discomforted when someone comes over, these guys have to endure being out of their comforts zones, and not in an easy way like you, for 6-12 months. Tell me you can do this? People don't know, haven't got a clue, the sand gets into everything, simple things we take for granted, are nearly insurmountable difficulties, for these brave men & women. How can people blithely disrespect people like this? I'm glad the Marines are showing the mundane aspects of service peoples lives, on the line.
This is actually useful for me a civilian who is single and doesn't have a washer in my rentals and doesn't want to use a machine to save month. It's easy and not using machines save a good amount of energy.

Those were the days: No AC units, no tents, no PXs, mail took 3 months. It was fun trying to decide after how many more days you should pull out the next ranger roll, especially once your socks can stand on their own

I like the sense of comradery and being apart of the worlds greatest fighting force and I myself am in better shape than most people so naturally I like the physical challenge, and the benefits here and there. But after looking into where marines go after service I notice many of them have a hard time getting employed. So I decided to get my bachelors first to prevent that so that way I know I have a job after service.

My older boy was in Iraq in 2007. I've asked him about everything but laundry when he came home. This is good to know. He did say that it was so hot there that he had a heat stroke.

My hat goes off to all of our service men and women, especially those forward deployed in crap-hole countries like this. My time in the Navy during Dessert Shield/Storm was a little more comfortable, being onboard the USS America (CV-66). I was an ordanceman in an F-14 Tomcat squadron. Had a few buddies from high-school in the Army during DS that spent some time out in the sand box in Iraq and Kuwait....they had some rough stories. When we all caught-up back home after the war, I kinda felt bad telling them about our 4 meals a day, air-conditioning, laundry and TV, oh, and ice cream....lol. Actually, it was a little fun rubbing it in with them...all in good fun. We're all on the same team. Semper Fi to all my Marine buddies out there.
I remember those times. LOL. I remember using MRE boxes with garbage bags and pretty much any kind of soap to clean my uniforms. The upside is, once you put the clothes on a line, across a vehicle or across a cot...it only took a few mins for them to be dry so doing laundry didn't take all day...lol

i remember how powerful detergent is even in the first minute when i was out in theater. i thought washing machines did most of the work but the laundry detergent is some pretty potent stuff
I miss that Cpl. Mabry’s channel so much, I remember there was one video showing Lugo making a pizza from care package in Marjah. And another one demonstrating what he had packed in his assault pack. Both provided very surreal insight of how daily life in frontline is really like.
But seems like he decided to take down the channel or got taken down for some reason.😕
War is a dirty dirty job. Reminds me of what my father told me they went through when he was overseas in the Philippines in '49. You do what you have to do in extreme circumstances.

Yeah I'm a Desert Storm veteran the first time I ever seen bottled water was on a Blackhawk helicopter shipping and loads of the stuff I couldn't believe there was water in a bottle I never seen it before in my life but that's how we did laundry do the bucket full of water Sun detergent and your hands old school

In Ad Diwahniyah (Iraq). We had tubs plastic types from local shops and did it the same way till we actually got whashers and dryers @Camp Santo Domingo. In Basra (Bucca)they had a KBR type laundromat ...
Nothing is extra ordinary. That's how many people wash their clothes in India. Everyone knows how to do it here.

In bootcamp you wash on a concrete flat sink and cold water. A brush and liquid soap, just like grandma did!
I imagine with the high temps and low humidity, it wouldn't take long for your clothes to dry.
Not easy to do in the winter season you can forget about laundry during that season just let the falling snow clean you somewhat

the only time i did laundry in afghan was on my 2nd pump that was on leatherneck...first pump to the PBs in the middle of nowhere we only got a laundry tent the last few months of the deployment
