Youd be surprised how friendly marines are. i know i was surprised before i joined. I always assumed army would be friendly and that marines would be brainwashed hardasses. I was originally going to join the army but the army recruiters were rude and pissy and bored and seemed pike they hated their job. They didnt even look me in the eye. I talked to the marine corps recruiter a few weeks later and they all shared pizza with me and joked around and encouraged me to start working out with them. The rest is history

While I was in the State, they didn't open for F1 visa holders, now the Army does but Marine still doesn't. But yeah 0371 is my dream. Always wanted to be a Marine.
2 years late, but if you still hold interest in Recon / MarSOC: Enlist with an open 0300 infantry contract & do some time in the USMC before you sign a recon or raider contract. If you sign a contract that guarantees a spot in selection for you, and you end up failing selection, you will be repurposed to the needs of the Marine Corps. That means you'll end up in a job where you have no choice what you do if you fail recon / raider training.
It's the case length. The COAL can vary from round to round by as much as a 0.1 inches or more, which doesn't sound like much until you consider that anyone even halfway decent at hand loading can have variations of less than 0.001 inches. My first batch of hand loads had variations up to .3 inches in some cases. I've got it down to where it stays in the thousandths of an inch now.

I think I was 20 when I saw this movie about a former marine that took these juvenile delinquents and dropped them in a swamp. Some of them were actually in rival gangs. One was believed to have killed the little brother of one of the others. After several days on their own the guy returned. Then he started training them like the military. He was then going to take them back to the city to clean up the streets. He trained one to be a sniper, gave him the mathematical information to hit the target. I took that information and applied it to a BB gun. You guys are probably laughing your butts off about now. :) My home town is hundreds of miles from the east coast but shortly after I watched that movie there was the hurricane that made it through New York. The winds were so strong that my home town in Ohio felt the affects of the wind but without the rain. I was down at the park, off of Lake Erie. I was just messing around. I never in my life took it serious that I could calculate what those of you guys that have been snipers could do but I gave it a shot. No pun intended. Applying the calculations, judging the weight of the BB, the rating of the BB gun which may not be all that accurate but still. By my calculations I figured I would have to aim 45 degrees away from the target. I took the shot and was totally shocked. I hit the target. My friends mouth dropped. I think he was more shocked than I was. Maybe it was just dumb luck but either way, I'll always remember that shot.

Natural point of aim is also important, muscling the rifle especially in a long range shot can be the difference between a hit and a miss.
I really learned an appreciation for sniper rifles, in a way it's like taking pictures waiting for that right moment and in a snap you have art.
