      Do you have a suggestion to increase this Pattern to a place mat for a table setting

      To very quickly and easily do this without changing the increasing of this pattern, I would used 2 or 3 strand of yarn and a large hook. Like 5, or 6 mm then just make one and see how that goes.
      It should make it plenty big enough for a placemat as these are quite large already. I will measure them tomorrow and add a comment to let you know.

    Can you do a tutorial without changing colors, perhaps a variegated yarn?

      You could do this pattern without changing colors!
      Just follow the pattern (increases etc) and it should turn into a wonderful pot holder!

      100% worsted weight cotton yarn.
