Hi. I'm not a fan of fringe. I have 10 colors that I am doing in a flat tapestry of a realistic dog's face. I am using thin yarns and sc stitches do adequately cover them any ideas about how to handle 10 yarns when it is time to turn. I have done 5 colors before but in the round! Easy peezy. But I am determined to do this tapestry for my friend who lost her beloved dog recently based off a favorite picture of his happy face.

Caryn, Wow! I applaud you for taking on this project! I've never done Tapestry Crochet with more than 3 colors at once. I would think using 10 colors at once would be a little problematic with the bulk of working over 9 strands of yarn. Unfortunately, I don't have any ideas for how to handle 10 yarns, either in the rows or turning your work. I wish I did. Are you sure that Tapestry Crochet is the best technique for using that many yarn colors? Perhaps Intarsia Crochet would work better. Although I assume there are lots of areas with only 1 or 2 stitches of each color. The problem you'll probably run into is what to do with all the tails! I've seen some crochet projects in the past where the tails are just left hanging (for a wall hanging) on the back and not woven in at all. You could also line the back with fabric to conceal the tails that could be tied together. Just an idea. Good luck and happy crocheting to you.

Hello. I really have had no problems with carrying 9 and crocheting over them. I've separated my yarns into ziplock bags. And yes there are several color changes. I am imagining coils of yarn coming out every other row. Maybe a border to cover the coils. Your idea of material on the back maybe the answer to contain all the strands may have to be the solution. Thanks for your thoughts. I enjoy your blogs and videos.

      Caryn,
I'm not sure I'm understanding what you're doing. Are you working this Tapestry Crochet project in turned rows or in rows that are all worked on the right side?
I'm so glad that you enjoy my blogs and videos! Sometimes I wonder if my information is helpful to anyone or not!

@@TheCrochetArchitect I have only done one row so far my intention is to do turned rows because I like how solid the piece turns out. I thought I'd do research before I went too far. Ive been following you since I saw your method of carrying your yarn back to the right on overlay mosaic crochet. Brilliant! I share your name on mosaic groups that I follow. Thank you for taking the time to respond to my questions.

Caryn, Thanks so much for sharing my name in mosaic groups!
I'm happy to help you with your Tapestry Crochet. If you message me through my website, I'd be happy to help you even more. I have another Tapestry Crochet technique to film, but I haven't gotten around to doing it yet. It may be something you'd like to hear about or see before you get too far on your dog project.
